Formerly Plum Tree Inn, Broadway Cuisine boasts a massive menu of Cantonese and American-Chinese favorites, including Peking duck and beef chow fun, all served in a spacious, family-friendly vibe in Chinatown.
"Chinatown’s restaurant scene received a major boost when the former Plum Tree Inn was revived as Broadway Cuisine, a room whose lack of windows gives it a kind of office-building vibe. The lack of modern ambience shouldn’t dissuade one from seeking the wok-fired treasures of its Chinese American and regional Chinese menu that manages to both please a crowd and impress seasoned fans of the cuisine. Even a simple plate of pan-fried chicken noodles manages to balance the right textures and seasonings without being cloying. Fish filet with black bean sauce comes studded with still-crisp red onions and bell peppers, plus plump mushrooms for good measure. Portions are heaping, too, meaning Broadway Cuisine is a go-to for impromptu group dinners, with ample parking in the back. — Matthew Kang, lead editor" - Eater Staff
"Chinese food on Christmas is a tradition in itself. This year, head to Chinatown stalwart Broadway Cuisine on Christmas for plates of glistening orange chicken, wonton soup, beef chow fun, and fried rice." - Rebecca Roland, Mona Holmes
"Broadway Cuisine’s menu is massive with 242 items that include Chinese-American classics in the former Plum Tree Inn space. Order the egg foo yong, chop suey, moo shu pork, and Peking duck, then select one of the big tables for the feast." - Mona Holmes, Eater Staff
"A family with Chinatown roots took over Plum Tree Inn when it closed in 2020 and revamped it as Broadway Cuisine in 2021. The 6,000-square-foot restaurant has old-school Chinese dining palace vibes with an expansive menu featuring dishes like egg foo young, Peking duck, and moo shu pork." - Mona Holmes
"I was pleasantly surprised by the food at Broadway Cuisine in Chinatown, mostly because I hadn’t heard anything superlative about the experience since it changed ownership. Truth be told, this might be the best overall Chinese restaurant in Chinatown, better than my previous favorite Yang Chow. The cooking displays a balance between the Americanized Chinese food that folks expect in Chinatown and the flavors of regional Chinese cuisine. Sure, there are plump button mushrooms and red onion pieces with this fish in black bean sauce, but the vegetables displayed a slight but pleasing crunch. The fish was juicy and evenly cut while the sauce didn’t feel goopy or overwhelming. All the dishes we had showed this level of finesse, and the service was attentive too. My only qualm with the restaurant is its lack of windows, but after getting over that, I’ve decided Broadway Cuisine will be our family’s go-to in Chinatown. (There’s a small but free parking lot behind the building.)" - Eater Staff
