"Damaged by an alleged arson fire in February, the restaurant is reopening today, July 11, after five months of remodeling and restoration, a representative confirms. After the fire multiple systems were damaged, including the kitchen, exterior, and other critical systems; reconstruction cost over $100,000 and was not fully covered by insurance. Work included a new water heater, electrical wiring, walk-in fridge compressors, fire suppression, doors, drywall, and ductwork. The operation took over the 40-year-old Plum Tree Inn restaurant in Chinatown in 2021, with hospitality veterans Yi Long Yu and Wen Yu (plus two silent partners) reopening it under the new concept; the wide dining room historically catered to big groups, regulars, and families who came in for well-done Chinese dishes drawn from a 242-item menu. At a time when restaurants in the area have faced protests, ICE raids, and curfews, it’s presented as refreshing to see a classic Chinatown restaurant roar back to life; those visiting tonight might be celebrating with lion dancers and a general feeling of festivity." - Matthew Kang
"Chinatown’s restaurant scene received a major boost when the former Plum Tree Inn was revived as Broadway Cuisine, a room whose lack of windows gives it a kind of office-building vibe. The lack of modern ambience shouldn’t dissuade one from seeking the wok-fired treasures of its Chinese American and regional Chinese menu that manages to both please a crowd and impress seasoned fans of the cuisine. Even a simple plate of pan-fried chicken noodles manages to balance the right textures and seasonings without being cloying. Fish filet with black bean sauce comes studded with still-crisp red onions and bell peppers, plus plump mushrooms for good measure. Portions are heaping, too, meaning Broadway Cuisine is a go-to for impromptu group dinners, with ample parking in the back. — Matthew Kang, lead editor" - Eater Staff

"Chinese food on Christmas is a tradition in itself. This year, head to Chinatown stalwart Broadway Cuisine on Christmas for plates of glistening orange chicken, wonton soup, beef chow fun, and fried rice." - Rebecca Roland

"Broadway Cuisine’s menu is massive with 242 items that include Chinese-American classics in the former Plum Tree Inn space. Order the egg foo yong, chop suey, moo shu pork, and Peking duck, then select one of the big tables for the feast." - Mona Holmes, Eater Staff

"For me, Sundays are all about takeout, and Chinatown’s Broadway Cuisine hit the spot with their beef chow fun: the takeout container arrived almost bursting with thick rice noodles and slices of velvety beef. Each bite offered a chewy spring of noodles in an aromatic sauce that slicked the mouth; the meat was tender, flavorful, and — most important — generous. It’s a comforting, no-fuss meal that I’ll be adding to my regular takeout rotation." - Eater Staff
