"This restaurant and deli — the first of the Broder family’s slate of Italian restaurants, which now includes Broders’ Pasta Bar and Terzo — first opened in 1982. Grab a loaf of house-baked focaccia and an Italian meatball sub from the takeout counter, or come for a sit-down meal of fettuccine bolognese. Broder’s is a great spot for a date night." - Justine Jones, Eater Staff

"Broders’ Cucina Italiana remains temporarily closed following a fire in the restaurant on April 2. As staff continues to evaluate the damage, clean up, and make repairs, they’ve brought food donations to Fire Stations 27 and 28, to show appreciation for firefighters’ prompt response. Keep an eye on Broders’ Instagram page for reopening news — in the meantime, diners can still eat at Broders’ Pasta Bar or Terzo, and buy Broders’ pasta sauces in grocery stores around the Cities." - Justine Jones

I stop here quite literally every time I make the drive from Grand Forks on my way to MSP. As an ethnic Italian American from the East Coast, Broders’ has always made me feel closer to home. The grocery market is truly amazing and anyone who claims to be Italian must source as much of their tomatoes and cheeses as they can from here. I have recently found myself staying for lunch and have yet to be disappointed. From top notch deli sandwich’s to quick and flavorful pastas, Broders’ is the Italian American’s gastro-dream realized in a small corner of the outskirts of Minneapolis. Please give them your patronage; it’s places like this that make America’s Italian food scenes so unique and special.

The chef must not have access to seasoning. This dish takes like nothing. Salt, pepper, or a little garlic would’ve helped this very basic dish. I would eat a lean cuisine over this food. Also, no napkins or utensils in the bag. After trying to eat the food, I found a hair at the bottom. First and last time.

Ordered food from this restaurant for the first time and it was bomb! Everything was so good! Don’t mind my half eating pictures lol.

We have been coming here for over 20 years and I’m not sure how I just got around to reviewing them. I love the pizza, but went with an old favorite in the South Jersey hoagie, with French baguette. In my opinion, there is no better Italian style sandwich in the city. My daughter has loved their pasta (any, but specifically Farfalle) with pesto. I

One of the best soups I had ever eaten! Friendly staff and charming space with great Italian groceries available. Well marked gluten free options. Will definitely keep coming back.

Google
Had a slice of the Italian sausage❤ and a can of Siciliana❤ The food is always made with care at Broders Cucina Italiana. The staff is great. Its chill before 5pm and busy from 6-8pm.

Google
Great find looking for a reasonably priced Italian restaurant! The atmosphere was great and the food lived up to expectations. The staff was very friendly and patient as we reviewed the menu. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal, especially the pesto lasagna. Seating is limited, but everyone still seemed to find a spot.

Google
Had a medium sausage pizza and it was absolutely delicious. I was going to take it home but it smelled so good. I had to eat a piece or two there. Also got focaccia and a crisp flat bread called Fulton flatbread.

Yelp
I love this place! Whether stopping in for a meal or buying items to go book club or another gathering I've always had a great experience here. The quality of everything is superb whether fresh, frozen, on location or to go you can't miss. Definitely has the feel of an old school Italian joint from the East coast. So legit. You definitely need to try them out ! Make a special trip! It's worth it!

Yelp
One of my absolute favorite places for NY style pizza! I've been going here since I was a kid and it still has the same amazing recipes. I have also tried their spaghetti, breadsticks, and pesto pasta salad - all great. I'm hoping to try one of their amazing looking sandwiches, but can't seem to deviate from the pizza when I go lol. It's a cute restaurant with VERY limited seating. I highly recommend doing a pick up order - their estimated pick up times are typically very accurate. The one time we waiting 25+ minutes past the estimated time, we were given a $25 gift certificate to use for our next visit! Always good service. A large part of the restaurant has cute gift items. Special sauces and dips, authentic pasta, Italian chocolates, and more. I've purchased items from Broders to put together an 'Italian night' type gift for a friend. Overall: I highly recommend a take out order from Broders ASAP!

Yelp
This little Italian Gem obviously has great reviews!! I loved the ambience I loved the service !! ( Jacob ) was our server , he was FANTASTIC !! Top notch , we did the date night 8 pm dinner for two special and the selections are limited but what a great deal for your buck! A wide range of dishes that showcase the rich flavors of Italian cuisine. I will say no more until you try this place out ! Broader's is a gem worth visiting. Whether you're a fan of classic Italian dishes or looking to try something new, Broader's has something to offer. With its inviting ambiance, excellent service, and delicious food, it's a dining experience that will leave you planning your next visit before you even leave the restaurant. Highly recommended !!

Yelp
I just came here for the first time and tried the chicken Parmesan sandwich on fresh baguette. So yummy! Thick slice of crispy, juicy chicken, rich mozzarella, topped with their tangy pomodoro sauce. I haven't tried anything else yet, but I am definitely coming back. Even if everything else turned out to be awful (sincerely doubt it), the chicken Parmesan sandwich is so good that I would be happy ordering that over and over again!

Scott B.

Yelp
The situation: great friends are coming over for dinner on the back porch (on a beautiful summer evening) and it's been a busy Friday! How to pull off a great meal that's worthy of this beautiful night? Broder's Deli to the rescue! Truly company-worthy pizzas, salads, and remarkable desserts. If you're thinking casual pizza party, this is not that. This is really fine and beautiful food. Easy to order and delivery or pick up -- an then you have a memorable evening with all kinds of appreciation from your guests. This is such a great idea if you want to host a fun night AND want to join your guests instead of being in charge of food prep. I love this place.

Carole D.

Yelp
Four of us had an awesome experience at the deli, great food and ambiance. Three were my friends from Wisconsin and we were having an "Italian" weekend, on our list of things to do was to eat lunch at an authentic Italian Deli and we were not disappointed. Would highly recommend Broders Deli for all things Italian

Kathryn E.

Yelp
We stopped in here to get some food to go and were pleasantly surprised by how much they offered - soups, salads, sandwiches, pizza, and Stromboli. I ordered the carrot soup and it was very good! Creamy and full of flavor. I ordered a pizza by the slice - the mushroom speck. Wow! So good!! I'd come back to try more things. Street parking or a lot across the street. Friendly staff!

Megan M.

Yelp
I've come by this Cucina before to buy bread, and when I did, I noticed they had a lunch menu. So OF COURSE I had to come back and try it out. I ordered their south Jersey sandwich on their focaccia and WOW!!!!! Seriously one of the BEST sandwiches I've ever had in the twin cities. The bread was so fresh and flavorful, the meat melted in my mouth, and the hot peppers added the perfect zang of flavor. I devoured it all and was left wanting more. They also sell pizza by the slice, and I'm very tempted to go back and get one of those soon. The store also sells Italian food items, like fresh made pasta, sauces, and various other Italian goods. I bought some espresso, and am excited to try it out.

Yelp
What happened to this nice little Italian spot? Stopped in for lunch today at noon. Ordered the chicken Parmesan as suggested by the young man serving us. My wives arrived with a nice thick red sauce and mine looked like it was swimming in red colored water. My first bite of the chicken made me think I was attempting to chew a piece of rubber. Two additional bites proved to be no better. My wife offered me a bite of hers and it was like a completely different dish. At least they were nice enough to remove it from the bill. How disappointing when this place had provided so many positive experiences in the past

Isabel B.

Yelp
Food is absolutely phenomenal. Fresh, authentic, and very reasonably priced! The service was excellent - very friendly and quick. The space has both room to eat in but seems to be primarily take out.

Mr. Dr. Evil P.

Yelp
Everything I've ever had from here was delicious especially the pizza by the slice or pasta. If you leave here without a loaf of focaccia bread, what's the matter with you? This is some of the best focaccia bread I have ever had.... get some of the spreads in the deli to to put on the focaccia. I like slicing the focaccia in half like a hamburger bun and then smearing Cheese and olive spread on top then wrapping and foil and baking in the oven. Yum. Bring a cooler fill it up with delicious things from their deli!!!

Phil R.

Yelp
Way over priced. The local stuffed up people love this place. It has very good food but feel out of place when I stop in. The local snobs make sure I'm not from the neighborhood.

Renee T.

Yelp
Food, service, and the amazing attitudes of the workers. I am from New England, and we all know that New England has the best pizza in the US... Until.... They amazed me. I had a slice of pizza, which was one of the best I ever had, and brought home some chicken parm. Bothe were delicious.

Grace S.

Yelp
If you want Stromboli come here to Broders! Where else can you get a Stromboli? I had to get the cheesecake & milk... feeling Italian vibes. The music, atmospheres, details, I am inside a slice of Italy.

Esther Y.

Yelp
HUGE pizza slice. Honestly.. the best pizza slice I've had. I think it's a little too salty, but it's still really good. I love that they put a lot of arugula on this one. Would totally recommend everyone to get their pizza! We bought it for takeout and walked over to Harriet Lake (about 7 minutes walk) and ate there.

Anne C.

Yelp
Cute Italian grocery and deli. They have dessert slices that are also served at their restaurant across the street here for purchase. Also fancy cheeses, cured meats, sauces (both jar and freshly made), pasta (both dry and freshly made), quality olive oil and lots of other Italian grocery items. I have not tried their food, but the pizza slices look generous, and the pasta must be amazing and great value if it's anything like the restaurant. There is a small lot in front of the restaurant across the street, otherwise street parking.

Renee R.

Yelp
Great food, great store! Love the Manicotti, pizza, sauces, oils, croutons, it's all fresh and wonderful!

Staci G.

Yelp
In Bloomington Minnesota for a conference and was looking for something to eat now and take back for tomorrow dinner. Saw this place on several sites so thought I would give it a try. The staff are really friendly, kind, and really helpful. The food was also really delicious. Definitely would recommend this place and will return if I'm back in the area.

Becca S.

Yelp
Delicious restaurant! Make sure you don't show up hungry as there is often a wait but have a bar where you can grab a drink while you wait. We started with calamari and a Caesar salad. Then shared a tortellini, bolognese, and carbonara. They were all very unique and we couldn't decide on a favorite!

Ashley S.

Yelp
I'm disappointed to say I found Broders just ok. Their groceries seem great with many options that look like they're straight from Italy. Cheeses, Olives, stuffed peppers, pasta, take home and bake calzones. But I went with the sausage and peppers sandwich on baguette and I'm left wanting more. The baguette was good. Crispy outside, chewy inside. The onions and peppers were plentiful and still had some bite. But the sausage, so scant I kept having to look for it and such a mild flavor that the veg overpowered it. I still want to try the south jersey sub, but I wouldn't send my Nonna for the Sausage and peppers.

Monique H.

Yelp
The market area at Broders is pretty fantastic. I am always pleased with the selection of various pastas, sauces, and other delicious italian fare that I can find. I especially enjoy the coffees they have as well. My experience with the restaurant portion of Broders has been a little lackluster. I last got the chicken parm which was lacking in flavor and warmth (temp wise). The service was a bit on the apathetic side, which is disappointing. It came through in attitude and how the food was just kind of plopped on the table without a word. So, four stars for the market and a solid 3 for me for the food/service. Street parking is usually easy to find around here.

Tricia D.

Yelp
Despite the musty basement smell that hit me when I walked in, I still wanted to try out the food because I had heard good things. I was disappointed the pizza oven was down from a fire they had in the restaurant. So I went with a staple, chicken parmigiana. It was delicious! The pasta was fresh and perfectly cooked. The red sauce was flavorful and the chicken...amazing. Crispy breading and not heavy. Seating is very limited.

Naomi C.

Yelp
Great atmosphere. I had the pasta special with lobster, capers, dill and butter. Excellent. You can tell these chefs really care about the food they are preparing.

Scott B.

Yelp
A go-to takeout place for Italian (that leaves us just a little wanting every time). Broders is a tradition, it's main Italian place being across the street. The take/out at the Cucina is the main event, though you could eat there at one of 6-8 tables. The options are good... what's off is the portions. They are all about 15-20% too small to be filling. Example: last night we got the chicken parm + the veggie lasagna for the two of us. We're not big eaters, but both of us finished and said, "Wish we'd ordered a spaghetti with meatballs to split." Please make your cuts a bit bigger and this would really lift things from a 4 to 5 star review.

Julie S.

Yelp
We used to live in the neighborhood for a long time and moved away about 10 years ago. We were totally disappointed by the lack of quality now. Skip.

Katy F.

Yelp
I love this place for take out! I am so glad to have a no frills italian place nearby. Their pizza slices are one of my go-to lunch options. My only qualm is that they took off fettuccine noodles as an option for kids meals..other than that solid 8/10! (please bring back the fettuccine kids meal)

Stephen S.

Yelp
Broders is my favorite restaurant in Minneapolis. The staff are so welcoming and professional. The food at Broders is so great (the menu is huge!) and the wine list may be even bigger. We always have a great time visiting the restaurant and recommend it to all of our friends.

Pa Y.

Yelp
Food was delicious! Lucky to have an Italian gem here in South Minneapolis! Went at lunch, ordered, took it to go and had a great dish! They have an area to sit and eat too if you need to stay to eat.

Graham G.

Yelp
Broders Cincina Italiana is superb deli style food. I eat their South Jersey Hoagies on Baguette regularly. I also eat the Basil Pesto Lasgna regularly. The other items I've had, pizza, meat lasagna: all excellent. Highly recommend.

Kent M.

Yelp
The real deal Italian market and restaurant here without the restaurant hoopla. Just food and a market here across street from Pasta Bar of same name, which is a regular kind of restaurant. I actually prefer this and doesn't have the usual wait time to sit and dine. Also got a pressed anise cookie. Not wonderful. And a raspberry cheesecake which is generally flavor-lacking of anything distinguished. I'm still allowing 5 Stars.

Bob S.

Yelp
I was in town for business meetings and needed a place to eat dinner on Memorial Day. I called a few places and they were closed. Broders won and I'm glad I went there as it was casual and quick. The staff was very helpful and nice. I read about their homemade pasta and ended up with a salad, eggplant parm with a side of pasta. You order at the counter, pay and they give you a number. The food is brought out to your table when it's ready. They have plenty of goodies to put on your bread, pizza, dish or pasta. They also had wine and probably beer too. They let me try their homemade cracker which folks were taking to go. It was really good. I enjoyed it and saw lots of folks getting pizza and food to go. The Pasta Bar restaurant was across the street and that parking lot was full.

Mical C.

Yelp
They're a joke. I drove over an hour for 2 of their 18" large cheese pizzas for my Mothers' 90th birthday, btw she's in hospice. Opened these in front of family & friends only to find 2 large slabs of cheese on dough - NO SAUCE! On top of that they charged an additional 15% for "Benefits & equity" besides tax & tip. An update - Wendy (Broders Mgr) issued us a refund

Naomi O.

Yelp
One of my favorite authentic Italian restaurants and also one of the thriving and appreciated eateries in the Twin Cities. During the early pandemic, the team of management and workers had shifted dining out (aka take away and delivery) only option with incredibly unique ways such as take and make to continue serving their own specialty pasta dish, offered wide variety of pantry essentials and antipasti from deli (Broders' Cusina Italiana). Can't wait for upcoming patio season and eventually indoor dining to meet with warm and welcoming, very professional and cool Broders' staff! Most importantly, yes, their pasta and risotto are excellent. Please don't forget to order dessert.

Prescilla X.

Yelp
I can't believe it took me so long to come here! My mouth is watering writing this review. When you first walk in, they entice you with all their amazing options of things to purchase such as pasta, sauces, breads, etc. The ordering process is a tad daunting for a newbie but they make everything in their cases looked so appealing. I finally decided on the fettuccini with bolognese sauce. It was literally the best pasta I have ever had!! The pasta was cooked to a perfect chewy al dente and the sauce was just enough. Just be aware of their peak times because of their limited seating. I can't wait to come here and try something new!

P D.

Yelp
Food was already passable Italian at best and then the place decided to add a Equity tax on top of the overpriced food, even on carry outs. Get the food right, get the price right and maybe we come back.

Kyle F.

Yelp
While I only spent about 20 minutes here, I can tell I'll be back many more times! While I was waiting for my table at Broder's Pasta Bar, I went here and looked at all of the cheeses, pasta, olive oils, and other display cases full of anti pasta and pizza. This place serves as a shop full of Italian ingredients and also a restaurant with really nicely priced entrees. You can get a slice of pizza, get a side salad with an entree, or some dessert in a pinch! I'd highly recommend this place if you were looking for a quick bite. We got a slice of Piccante Pizza for $3.25, and it was very tasty. With a thin crust, it was a perfect appetizer for our dinner next door. I took a ton of photos to show how many different things this place has to offer.

John M.

Yelp
My go to spot for a cappuccino. Kind of small for the price, but once you get used to the quality and relative consistency of their brewing, you'll accept no substitute and realize that the solution is to just order two of them. The pizza is one of my top three faves in MN. The picante salami is what I recommend for the purist. Nice thin crust. The Rossa is my other jam. Artichoke hearts, spinach. Easy way to get your veggies in. Although I've come to take this place for granted after 25 years of eating here regularly, the daily special today promoted me to post. Stringozzi with morels, white wine and parmesan. For 12.50 you are getting a decent amount of morels, but more importantly, they are featured in a dish that complements and brings forth their flavor. It's a slam dunk, and enough to make you feel like you didn't miss out on spring.

Keno W.

Yelp
This was my first time in an Italian Deli in Minneapolis and it is hands down one of the best pizza joints in Minneapolis. The dough was so fresh and light. The sausage was homemade and the spices on point. If you are looking for an authentic New York style pizza in Minneapolis,Broders Cucina is the place. They also have fresh sandwiches, pasta, meats and treats.A taste of Italy right in the land of 10,000 Lakes.

Shawn S.

Yelp
I feel like I've had good experiences here in the past so not sure what happened this time. I had the chicken parmesan, it was not good. Two small pieces of chicken that had very little flavor and did not have enough sauce or cheese. For 10 bucks, they should be able to put forward a better effort. Either be small and great, or large and meh. This was small and meh. The meatball sandwich - same thing. Not nearly enough sauce. Broder's is a great operation and I respect that they generally have been bringing great Italian food to this area for years. But they need to look at themselves a bit and up their game in the cucina. The saving grace of the cucina is the authentic Italian mini-grocery that can save you a trip all the way to St Paul to Cosetta's.

Lorraine N.

Yelp
Celebrated my 30th wedding anniversary today at Broders Cucina Italiana. My husband searched for an authentic Italian "east coast" sub like the one we shared after getting married all those years ago and the Jersey fit the bill. It was delicious and had the shredded onions, lettuce, oregano, and oil along with all the delicious meats that we wanted. We also split the pasta of the day because FRESH PASTA.....wonderful wonderful. Loved it and already wanting to go back.

Mary A.

Yelp
2 months after MPLS has opened up and I still had to yell my order through a window from the sidewalk? Seriously, let people in. If you choose not to... at least use your window space to display food options. The teenagers at the window know little about the food and have no customer service skills. A suggestion would be to use that service / Equity sue charge toward some training. Extremely disappointed in the prices and the value. Couldn't even browse and make our choices. A family order of pasta with a pint of sauce??? Is that about 1/4 cup per person? LAME.

Tara V.

Yelp
My favorite place anytime I'm in Minneapolis! I moved away years ago but sometimes wake up craving their breadsticks. The pizza is out of this world, the perfect combo of chewy and crispy. I also love that they have an Italian market! It's fun to pick up new things to try, like the mostarda. The staff is always cheerful and welcoming too. 10/10!

Trish D.

Yelp
It seems like Italian restaurants often come with a more expensive price than I would like to pay and large quantities of food. Sometimes I get a craving and I don't want to deal with either of those. This is a nice spot for that problem. There are numerous delicious items to choose from that are decently priced while still providing a satisfactory amount of food. You get in line and stare at the wall where the menu is printed. (The font is large enough for me to read so that's a big plus!) The counter is where you order. They give you a number and you have to find a table. They can be pretty close together but being forcibly close to strangers on occasion is tolerable. Other than someone bringing the food to you, it's kind of a self service type of situation in the dining area. It's nice and casual. I ordered rigatoni with sausage and peppers. The tomato sauce was very zesty. I especially enjoyed the sausage (haha...) which was had a small bite to it and was oh so delicious! My rigatoni was cooked to a desirable texture which was super! Other than just dining here, there are many food and kitchen items for sale as well. It's an interesting spot to check out if you're longing for some good food without having to get dressed up or deal with the romantic atmosphere of some other Italian restaurants.

Grahame B.

Yelp
I fell in love with a restaurant. Its name is Broder's. My fam and I moved into a house a few blocks away and, being fans of all things Italian (my partner is Italian), we decided we had to try it out. Not only was it a short, pleasant walk from our house, and not only is it a nice little shop that also sells Italian ingredients, foods, and candies, and not only does it sell focaccia EXACTLY like the kind we bought in the streets of Genova, the food is absolutely wonderful. My family gets the same thing almost every time: One or two slices of pizza each (they rotate specialty pizzas, and Portobello & speck is our current fave), a parmesan breadstick each, and FLORENTINES. Oh, man. Florentines. These brittle but scrumptious little toffee cookies are half-dipped in chocolate, and man. They're like crack. We buy so many that the staff now knows us as Florentine fiends. I have had other things, on those rare occasions where I've tried to branch out. The meatball sub is very good. The lasagna is beautiful...nice thick slices covered in tangy tomato sauce and fresh parmesan. They do have some gluten free options, including some risotto dishes that are very tasty. Check it out sometime.

Patrick C.

Yelp
I'm finished with this place until they change their policies. A service and equity charge? You cannot be fucking serious. I'll decide if and when to leave a tip--especially on carryout orders. Their even encouraging you to add a tip on top of their ridiculous fee. So, to order a large pizza, I have to pay an extra 4+ dollars for your fucking fee on top of the 20+ dollars it costs for the za' alone. Total deal breaker. Say goodbye to all the money I'd spend at your place Broders. You'll be closed soon with crap like this.

Lily A.

Yelp
Really good food. Their pasta is fresh and I love the variety of cheeses they have. It's like a little Italian market.

R G.

Yelp
The best Italian casual in twin city's Period. Their pizza also excellent, the atmosphere just relaxing, the only minus on the interior , sometimes just not enough tables.

Coleton D.

Yelp
Came once, and will remember forever! Everything from the vibe, customer service and the food was o point during my visit. Right when I walked in I was greeted. She could tell I was new so walked me through the process of ordering and then paying at the front by the market. Offered her recommendation on menu items and I went with the chicken sandwich. Very good, it had a lot of bread but thank god the bread was amazing! When I was eating my meal, I heard one of the workers come up to the lady next to us and offered her a fresh slice of pizza. She said the one she had served looked a little old so they offered her a fresh one on the house when it came out of the oven. The lady was happy and surprised with the stand out customer service as well. Ordered a slice of pizza to go, and they wrapped it up for us and gave us the freshest piece they had. Cheaper option than borders across the street and much easier to navigate since it's a small market.

Remy A.

Yelp
Broders is one of our FAVORITE places to go for Italian cuisine. Our daughter went to Broders first a few months ago for a birthday party. When she came home, we asked how the party was and she said, and I quote, "It was good. But we went to this place that had the best Chicken Parmesan in the world and the Caesar Salad was AMAZING. We have to go back; the Squid Ink pasta looks good." Our daughter is a big foodie, as you can probably tell. If she likes a restaurant, it's worth going to. The staff is very helpful and patient. And of course, our daughter's favorite part, bottomless drink refill! Broders Cucina Italiana is a cozy spot, and it feels really home-y. There are a few tables in close quarters, and its a really sweet place to sit and eat mountains of hot, fresh made, tomato-sauce-smothered pasta or cheesy, crusty, delicious pizza and looking out at the street. Its warm and cozy, and the food is incomparable. Broders is a must-visit.
