I cannot even begin to express how disappointed I felt and in complete disbelief after my last dining experience. It was only a month prior that I was raving about Brooklyn Beso Restaurant & Bar, and now, sadly, I will not be returning.
Second chances in life are never guaranteed, but if you are ever afforded such an opportunity to get things right, DON'T SCREW IT UP...AGAIN!
A celebratory birthday dinner quickly spiraled into chaos.
The server took everyone's order but mine, even though I did not move from our table the entire night. He had already put their orders in before we could flag him over to take my order.
The DJ had the music playing so loudly that our server jotted down the orders incorrectly. Someone ordered mussels but got Brussels sprouts instead. Ha!
I looked around the table as others around me dug into their meals. All I wanted was red velvet waffles and fried chicken. No one on staff bothered to walk over to our table to apologize or even offer me a drink while I waited until prompted by my friends, who went to check on the delay on my behalf. After patiently waiting for my meal, I learned that the server forgot me again and, to add insult to injury forgot my order altogether.
The manager and a staffer did apologize, and the free drink did arrive. I loved the Tropical Vybz mocktail. All the mishaps must have been divine intervention because, honey...it was not worth the wait. I should have cut my losses and settled with a drink with friends for the night. The waffles tasted like they were forgotten under the heat lamp, and the wings were average. Moments later, another server approached our table with a duplicate order.
Despite our repeated requests to lower the music, if not for the customers to actually hear one another, then do it for the servers to ensure accuracy with the orders and avoid food waste. The volume was lowered momentarily and then returned to its usual level. Our pleas fell on deaf ears.
As if my night was not already ruined, there was clearly a miscommunication with the DJ. He casually walked over, stood directly before me, and asked me what type of music I would prefer to hear since I did not like his playlist. Excuse me! I personally never complained to the staff; my friends did. It was never about the song selections, just the volume.
When it was time for us to sing happy birthday, the guest of honor was served dessert on a plate that was chipped in three locations. What the heck?!!!
We looked at each other like we had to be in the twilight zone because this could not have been the same place we were eager to return to. If I had to diagnose the root cause of these mishaps, I would have to conclude that there may be a bit of an identity crisis here. Are you a bar, restaurant, or lounge? You cannot be all three at the same time. Lastly, who is your customer?
I must bid Brooklyn Beso farewell because I left on such a sour note.
