Brooklyn Children's Museum

Cute museum for children. They are free to touch almost everything and there are plenty of spaces for them to explore. Not as much for parents, it's more like one of those places where you go if you need a break to sit for a little bit while your children are entertained. Lots of bathrooms with helpful extra helps for children like stools. Definitely a place where childhood is welcome. I just question the price for a place that only took about 1-2 hours to get through. Plans to open the garden will really make this place even better.

Place was bigger than I expected and my son had a wonderful time. I would say it has more things to do for younger kids then older kids. Has a lot of realistic imaginary play for ex: grocery store, bakery. There is also a toddler section and my son loved the water sensory play. You should bring extra clothes bc my son shirt got soaked splashing as he played. 2nd floor had a cafe and a big outdoor patio perfect for warm days. Clean space and very fun environment for children.

It was a great time with my daughter. We had a lots of fun. This is really cool place to learn for kids.

Even tho my daughter was a lil older than most of the kids there. She is still a kid at heart. We enjoyed the museum a lot she said she would like to come back!

I was pleased to find out that you can visit the Brooklyn children’s Museum for free on Wednesdays. It was pretty crowded, but that’s to be expected during the summer AND on a day when it’s free. I brought an eight-year-old and honestly there wasn’t much for her to do. I would say it’s better for younger children maybe kids up to age 5 or 6? She had a good time, but we were done very quickly because there wasn’t much to see and or do in general, but especially for an older child. Was terrible? No, but, I likely wouldn’t bring her again because I feel like we saw everything and stayed an hour max. Parking in the area was OK. We had to walk a bit but we found free parking! So that’s a plus. Just keep that in mind especially if you’re coming on Wednesday. There will be lots of people.

My 6 and 4 year old kids were in paradise . They loved the museum, we spent a good 5 hours, moving from activities to other rooms. The cafeteria closed early when we came and we were lucky to grab a snack on time. It is a good place to hang out with your kids.

Kids had so much fun at the Brooklyn children's museum. We celebrated MLK day with different workshops. And afterward, skating rink on the rooftop was great finish.

Had a great time exploring with my kiddos to a place I grew up going to (so many years ago).

This is my first time coming here to the Brooklyn Children's Museum and it was quite the education that I received but unfortunately it wasn't that way for my daughter because she is just 1 year old! Very informational when you get to the part where there are many pop ups of restaurants and shops of different countries such as China, Mexico, and other countries in the Caribbean and many more in African and Asia. You get to learn briefly about their nationality and what their culture is like. The pop ups are aligned with the Bobye List Stream, which is an irrigation system. It has flowing water as you go down and then you are faced with a beach where you explore the ocean and sea animals. There is also the 2nd floor that is mostly artwork and murals. Mostly abstract art there and there are exhibits that you can join to create abstract artwork. The 2nd floor also opens up to an outdoor space where you can take pictures of benches with arches, such nice architecture. Back down on the 1st floor, there are stations with water for kids to play around. Overall, very educational but in my opinion, it is very small and thought it will be bigger with more exhibits. After going over the whole museum, my daughter and I saw a Photo Booth and took some pictures. There were many backgrounds and filters to choose from and we selected two of them. There's also a breast feeding station next to the Photo Booth for any new mothers who need privacy when breastfeeding. I arrived there late and you can still check in until closing time which is at 5pm. The price for each adult to go in is at $15.00. From Wednesdays to Sundays, the museum opens from 10am to 5pm and closes on Monday and Tuesday.

We moved to this neighborhood partially because of this museum and it's become the bane of our community. It's also a dangerous place to bring your children. They host drug parties, I'm not joking, they literally host "kokaine" parties on the weekends and it's only a matter of time before a child dies of fentanyl poisoning when they find an empty vial on the ground after one of these parties. You can hear the music for 5 blocks in any direction during these parties, they are the worst neighbors in all of crown heights and I hope they get shut down.

I recently visited the children's museum of Brooklyn with my daughter, and I must say it was a fantastic experience. The museum offers a wide range of activities and exhibits that are both educational and entertaining for children. One of the highlights of our visit was the traditional Brooklyn mock shops. My daughter absolutely loved playing in these mini shops, pretending to be a shopkeeper or a customer. It was a great way for her to learn about different types of shops and how they function. The museum also had interactive exhibits that allowed children to explore various scientific concepts through hands-on activities. My daughter had a blast experimenting with different materials and learning about cause and effect. The staff at the museum were friendly and helpful, and they made sure that the children had a safe and enjoyable experience. The museum was clean and well-maintained, and there were plenty of seating areas for parents to relax while their children played. Overall, I highly recommend the children's museum of Brooklyn. It provides a fun and educational environment for children to learn and play. My daughter had a great time, and we will definitely be visiting again in the future.

3 stars for the museum itself, 5 stars for the service it provides to the local community. Founded in 1899, apparently this is the first children's museum in the United States[1]. And most of the permanent part of this museum feels quite outdated; from the pizza parlor, to the bodega, to the newspaper shop, it seems that these things are 3-4 decades behind. However, there are often new temporary things going on, such as the dinosaur garden that was recently built on the rooftop, or the ice rink[2] that is also on the rooftop in the winter. More recently, a new AirMaze just opened[3] and it's a lot of fun: "a 20-foot-tall pressurized air system consisting of over 250 feet of tubes, valves, and blowers. Children are invited to insert various types of objects and navigate them through its clear pathways." Last time I took my kid here he spent 2h just at the AirMaze. Similarly, for a while there was a series of experimental music instruments on the second floor, but that collection is no longer there and that part of the museum is now closed. I like how the museum makes an effort to feature local plants and animals, but as they are mostly static, plastic things[4], they don't really work with children. It's also a great place for parties, as you can rent out a room and bring food and drinks. But perhaps the greatest feature of this museum is that it is open on Mondays and on most school holidays, so if your child's school is closed on a Monday, i.e. when most museums are closed, you can always count on the Brooklyn Children's Museum to provide a fun space to keep your little ones entertained for a few hours; a big BIG help for families in the neighborhood, particularly in the winter months. ---------------------------- [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brooklyn_Children's_Museum [2] Made of plastic, not ice. Bummer. Outdoor space was closed (no notice on website) met one lovely lady working in cafeteria who seemed to actually like kids but everyone else working seemed to be unhappy. Children's museums are tough, I can imagine they're exhausting to run but they really seemed to be out of resources and just overall uninterested in taking care of the space.

While visiting Brooklyn, I wanted to stop and give my daughter a chance to play (also the museum looked super cute to me). I looked it up, I think it's $15 per adult and $15 per kid over 1 I think. With my military ID, I was able to get in free! They have an entire area for small children which I really loved and appreciated. There was water play, sand play, areas to act out a play (theater), areas to make music, a slide, and an area for smaller tots that had soft blocks. We stayed about an hour and my daughter really enjoyed herself! We walked around the rest of the museum, there were things for my 1yr old to do too but there were bigger kids so we had to be mindful.

My two sons and I went to wash our hands and wipe our feet before exiting the premises in the restroom on the first floor at closing time. When my boys entered the boys' restroom it was filthy and there was a significant amount of paper towels in the sink area, so they asked to wash up in the girls' bathroom with me. Unfortunately, there were no paper towels in there, so I ask them to run to the boys' restroom and bring a few back. I literally stood in the doorway of the boys' restroom watching them when a custodial worker named CHLOE, came up from behind me and started yelling at me stating that I cannot go into the boys' bathroom. I turned to her and tried to explain that my boys were simply grabbing paper towels and I was waiting for them but that did not suffice. She proceeded to yell obscenities at me, told me the get out of the museum, and then told me to get a job, all in front of my two young children ages 5 and 9. I am beyond appalled at this incredibly unprofessional behavior!

I was pleasantly surprised to find this covered venue space in Crown Heights Brooklyn. It was cloudy and cool outside however this space was great in post COVID world looking to safely reconnect. The trees, greenery, and lawn chairs gave a professional development day life. It was comfortable, spacious, and outside on the rooftop. It was definitely a great space for a company gathering, DJ, breakfast, lunch, and an guest speaker. I can see this space used for outdoor weddings, receptions, dances, proms, and yes....company meetings. The space has room for food, DJ booths, open bars, and there's an old school Disco Ball swinging from top (seriously). Did you know this was a hot spot? I didn't! ALL this on the roof top on an traditional children's museum in Brooklyn!

I went with a friend and her daughters for a day. With the Cool Culture pass we were all free which was great. Given that the visit was during a break it was understandable that it was crowded. The exhibits are cool and have so much variety. I can say my issue is there's no one around for maintain them. For the store to shop there's no one to put the items back so the kids can continue to shop. So the parents end up doing it. In some of the areas items needed to be repaired. The water station needed a bit of work. And more smocks for more kids to be able to use the space. Overall it was a good visit and I would recommend.

Haven't been here for at least a year. Feeling is little beat up and not well maintained. My experience today was really so so. First, the admission young lady was not knowledgeable about my reciprocal membership from another museum. I suppose to have free admission but she insisted twice it didn't apply. Luckily a more experienced staff intervened and told her yes. The toddler water area was always a hit for kids. Only 3 blue plastic mock's available and they were all being used. I remember they had more back then. The pizza area and the international grocery store was a mess. Those felt fabric made pizza ingredients were filthy and old. They don't have much organized activities for a Sunday afternoon. You pretty much walk around yourselves. It's sad to see a children museum so run down. The upstair exhibit ( about street play ) look newer but lack of interaction. The dinosaur exhibit was small but little bit more exciting with some dino sound and movement. Air conditioning didn't work. Big old commercial stand up fans blasting but still warm. I read other reviews that AC never works. Parking was easy on a Sunday afternoon 2 pm. Overall, will think twice to return.

Thank God for this place. It's the perfect spot for little kids to be nuts while absorbing Brooklyn's unique international spirit. Even a good spot for babies to explore. I LOVE the recent addition of delicious hot food and independent vendors upstairs- makes the perfect delicious day for my family.

This museum has so much potential covered up in mounds of dust, literally. The taxidermy section is so dusty. The museum is not very well kept, and everything is OLD and often in disrepair. Half the exhibits were closed. It's not really cheap to get in ($16) My god-daughter had fun, but even she said "I wish they had more rooms."

What a wonderful place to spend the day with children. They have activities for all ages of children and it is very educational.

Took my 3 year old to this museum on a Friday around 11AM. We purchased tickets in advance and had no issues getting in. Masks are required at this location at all times- which I find ridiculous more than 2 years after the pandemic. Regardless, we complied. It was the Friday before Labor day so it was quite warm outside, I was disappointed the AC wasn't on. There were large fans blowing throughout. There are about 3 "levels" for kids to explore. I let my little one roam free but there wasn't a whole lot that kept her interest. She particularly enjoyed the supermarket and the sandbox. Other than that- nothing else really made sense or was easily played with. The toddler area with the water table and slide were fun but very chaotic with bigger kids rough-housing. Wish there was more adherence to the age restrictions in those areas. My toddler was nearly run over several times in an area meant for her age group but much older kids. Overall, we were there for a little over an hour which was sufficient in tiring out an active toddler but I thought it was a tad overpriced for what we got. There's no food or drink allowed in the museum and masks are required.

Cute nice place. A lot of events and activities happen here. Definitely can bring toddlers and infants here. Infants have a little play area and good for sensory activities as well

Wow! What a treat for my nieces and nephews. Went on a Sunday and it was a good amount of people there. The kiddies loved it. Spent several hours there. I highly recommend.

Perhaps I came on an off day, but the museum was hot and stuffy with little to no air circulation. Hopefully this was a temporary malfunction and not the normal, as there were no signs or info at the front desk about this. Hey, BCA, please give folks a heads up before they decide to purchase tickets here!?! There are many things to love about this museum. The mini-NYC stores for kids to play in and interact in are so cool! My kids loved shopping in the grocery store and using the working conveyor belt. My oldest son loved making pizza and serving it to us in the mini pizzeria. Several glorified sandboxes captured my kids attention. There is potential here. In general, the Brooklyn Children's Museum needs some love. Broken toys and equipment are a health hazard: the beads that stuff the pretend pizza were scattered all over the floor, many of the sand toys were split open and cracked to reveal sharp edges, electrical parts of displays had missing buttons with dark openings for fingers to disappear into, a broken cash register shows exposed, sharp buttons. Also, many of the toys have the paint worn off and are visibly dirty. The carpet is old, worn and duct taped together in many spots. Many exhibits are paint scuffed, with glass-displayed items partially clouded over. The Tot area reeks of chlorine and is missing its advertised hand-washing station (to wash off the dyed blue sand in the sand box). It was the end of the day, but most of the objects needed to complete the activities in the mini-stores were missing, exhibiting a strange, post-apocalyptic empty feeling.

Brought my daughter here a few years ago it was not packed and had so much to look at. She enjoyed it and so did I

Very cute and cultural museum. You can see why it is the blueprint for other children's museums. We go here at least once a year - there is something for kids of every age, including the older ones upstairs and babies / toddlers alike. Whenever we go in the summer, the air conditioner is never working so if you cannot take the heat like me (I accidentally found this out while pregnant with my second and nearly passing out there), be warned.

staff are nice. however, the museum is not taking cared for. it definitely has a lot of potential but it's full of dust. The pretend play areas are dirty, messy and very old. What saddened me the most was the reptile & fish exhibits. The fish and turtle tanks are full of fungus. The snake they have is not treated well & clearly looks depressed. Very sad how they don't take care of the museum.

I've been to a couple of children's museums and this still remains the top favorite. I used to visit this museum when my daughter was a toddler and on this trip I visited with her at 19 and my god-daughter who's 2. So nostalgic. The cost was free for me as an educator, my daughter had a her college ID she also got in free and I gave a donation to keep the programs going. The staff is super welcoming and knowledgeable. The space is brightly lit with lots of natural sunlight and color therapy painted walls to make children feel relaxed or energized. Located on the 1st level are multiple areas for water and sand play. There is a male shift pizzeria, African Market, an International Shop (grocery store) and a Caribbean Cultural room. Each is very well curated with cultural items to show Brooklyn's diversity. In the African Market children can dress in kente cloth and head wraps while they examine artifacts. In the Caribbean room there is a costume that allows children to feel as though they are ready to play mas for carnival. The International Shop has pictures of real BK families and the holidays they celebrate : Kwanza, Yom Kippur, Diwali etc and the items are actually in the grocery store so children can experience the cultures. There is also a science and reading corner. Located on the next level are more areas for water play with more advanced mechanics seemingly appealing to older children. I love how sensitive the space is and how much room it leaves for them to explore/ wonder and feel free in a safe space. Unfortunately I didn't make it to the upper most level because we had to do feeding. Either way, it was well worth the trip. I will def continue to support this initiative and expose children to all its wonderful aspects. The only downside was the cleanliness of the bathroom and o think that's a reflection of the patrons. It's not realistic for museum staff to constantly be picking up behind folks. The children are not in the museums by themselves so the adults/chaperones have a responsibility to assist with that.

Best school trip ever! There's so much to see and explore while at the Brooklyn Children's Museum. You can spend at least 2 hours exploring animals, sound and motion, sensory, and culture. My 7 years old was bored after 1 hour. Maybe a toddler would have a better adventure than we did. I wish I could say we had a great time, but nothing has changed since my 12 year old had our first visit. She was only 2 years old. I wish they would upgrade some of the exhibits.

Firstly. Let me state this institution has been long standing in the community as I am. I have older children who are now adults that have found memories of this place. So having a birthday party at the location for my youngest child has not only a non-brainer but also nostalgic. However, I was disappointed with my experience with one of the managers on Dec 3rd. We were slightly late on rapping up due to some miscommunication. We were in the process of clearing when the event manager approached us to inform us that our time is running to close. I mentioned, I mentioned incorrectly the time we were working with to close and the manager proceeded to advise me or my inaccuracy while adding some superfluous information that included a note of charging us extra. Her default was passive aggressive and all done within an earshot of our guests, some who questioned her approach. While I totally understand the need to comply with the contract time frame, it must be noted that when she approaches we were I already in the process of breakdown and we won't but minutes past the required wrap up. I understand "the policy" however, I also understand "the spirit of the policy". I believe that then event manager could have used her discretion to assess the situation differently, i.e. we were guest that willing to work with the policy. We left, everything in tack, however, that brief unpleasantry was concerning. I would suggest form of customer service tor leadership training for that staff member. The staff is a representation of the institution and this institution always operated with the community in mind understanding that its success is predicated upon proper customer service. My hope is that all staff has this as the forefront of their daily routine. Note- all the other staff, security, grounds people were great. That one event manager needs to rethink her approach or be re-trained.

Brooklyn children's museum is disappointing and quite frankly an embarrassment. We took our son during the heatwave in July thinking it would be a great place for him to play in an air conditioned area. It was stifling in there. There were fans in some corners of the museum that barely offered relief. The majority of the exhibits are the same exhibits from when I was a child. They look like they have the same dust from when I was a child too. The exhibits are covered in layers of dust and dirt. It's disgusting. Many of the hands-on exhibits are broken or don't work. The poor employees looked like they would pass out from heat exhaustion let alone the parents and children. I went to Boston children's museum a week later and it was beautiful. It puts BCM to shame. I thought I'd give BCM another chance. It's now August and absolutely nothing had changed.

This is a pretty cool museum not big as the Brooklyn Museum on Eastern parkway & Flatbush avenue, but cool there have a lot of children's exhibits as well, of course, it's a children's museum. if you have kids or nieces or nephews its a great place to spend the day with them on a weekend or weekday whatever makes your schedule. by the entrance their cool downhill tunnel to get below to see the exhibits pretty cool place (I love the downhill tunnel, the architect did a great job designing this place ) I wouldn't mind coming back here if I have too!!!! very convenient by the MTA transportation: subway: 3-Train, Kingston Avenue train station. C-Train, Kingston & Throop Avenue train station. (little note, the subway stations are pretty far please take the bus). buses: B43, ,B44, B65, etc buses

I condemn this place. Don't even know where to begin. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ This was a rainy day activity and I think standing in the rain would have been a better option

Took my 2 year old nephew here and he had a blast. He literally didn't want to leave and ended up staying for 3 hours. He cried every time pulled him away from a station to try something else because he was having so much fun. This place is appropriate for kids ages 8 and under. An older kid would probably be bored. There several stations for kids to explore, play and learn. There's also a toddler corner for kids 6 and under. In this area there are about an additional 4 stations of fun.

Perfect place to take your children. It's free every Thursday from 2-5pm. Plenty of sensory activities to keep them busy for 3 hours. Super clean. The staff is very friendly and you can bring food or snacks and sit outside and eat. They have everything from sandboxes to a huge city bus the kids can pretend to ride on. You can also take your child to different parts of the world and learn all about the different cultures.

More like 3.5 stars. The museum was nice to explore. We went on a Thursday. So, it was fairly empty. I guess I expected more. More activities, more up to date exhibits, just more overall. My 6 yr old had a good time. I think he got an overall cool taste of the culture of Brooklyn. We may come back, but def overrated. We went Bower Park, right behind the museum. Very nice neighborhood to walk around.

I was looking forward to coming here with my 9 month old but I guess I should take him when he's a little older because he did not seem that interested... and I don't blame him. The parts of the museum we visited was pretty bare-boned, such as the mini L&B pizza shop, the grocery store, the Mexican bakery, etc. All the props were just thrown everywhere and I think they need to fix it up a bit. Everything looked worn down and old. There was a water section of the museum that we didn't bother going into but maybe one day we will when my baby is older. Also, the gift shop is overpriced so I didn't go too crazy in there. Thank goodness I got in for free. I can't imagine paying full price for this museum.

This place is a life saver especially during the winter time with Covid. Kids needs a place fo burn off energy and this is exactly the place. Friendly staff and the COO Atiba does such an amazing job clean up between session and he remembers his returning guests. Could not ask for a better place especially times like today.

I so wanted to dislike this place before even arriving there. I'll explain, I am familiar with the area where the museum is located, but I followed their directions, and it left me about a mile short of the destination. As I'm walking there, I see both a train station and bus station within four blocks. So, please don't fall prey to their faulty directions. Take either the B43, B44, or B65, if traveling by bus. Take the 2 train to Nostrand Ave, not Eastern Parkway, as incorrectly listed. The museum itself was an excellent experience. Upon entry, you pay your fee of $11, then proceed to the check in, which is free. You can check all your items (coats, strollers, bags, etc..). Don't forget to leave them a buck or two in the tip jar. I believe they have two floors, but certain things were not available because of private parties. On the ground level was a theatre, but it seemed not to be working. Replica bakeries (Asian & Mexican) from my very own neighborhood (Sunset Park). An International food market, where kids can pretend to shop for groceries, use the conveyor belt, and make transactions. They have a travel agency, a music room where they can see both Latin and West Indian sights and sounds along with an area to draw. Spumoni Gardens (not available when I was there). On the opposite side was an arts and crafts section. They have staff who assist the children with drawing and they were very helpful and seemingly eager to help all the kids create a master piece. On the level above was a bus, which all the kids seemed to go wild for and get to live out their dreams of being Ralph Kramden, and driving the bus through out Brooklyn. Lastly, the top floor, has an area with seating; you can also purchase food there, but it's pricey. The majority of this area with artwork seemed to be closed off as well for an event. Overall, this museum is awesome, has a multitude of things to keep your child up to about age 8 or so entertained. They have a souvenier shop. My complaints along with the bad directives are they shouldn't close exhibits for prívate parties on a Saturday. Also, maybe get a second bus, or have an employee monitor the bus because some parents disappear and it creates a wild scene of hysterical kids wondering when it's their turn.

Absolutely love this place! So much to see and do, and very interactive for kids of all ages! They have such cool exhibits that mirrors life for families living in the area, and has interactive exhibits on nature and city life in general. They also have a toddler zone for the smaller kids to run around in (although it closes an hour or so before the museum closes). If you are a partner member of one of the other museums in their network or active or retired military - you may have free admission (check with front desk). Great place to have kids run off steam, especially when its too cold to go outside and play. It's also down the street from the Brooklyn museum, so it makes it a bit easy to spend some time at both places.

* Pay as you wish on Thurs and Sundays. 2-6 on Thur and 4-7 pm on Sundays* I strolled in around 2pm and it was pay as you wish. I made a donation and off we went. Walked around for a few and caught the 3pm Slow show. It was a fun and interactive presentation. We got to learn about a few animals and we even got to pet a snake! The presentation was great and my son loved it. Our next stop was Totally tots. Great for the younger children. My son is 1 and it was prefect. There was a Water area ( they provide a waterproof apron). Definitely bring a change of clothes bc my LO got wet. They have a sand area, blocks, dress up, small slide...My LO ran around exploring everything. What's really cool is the World Brooklyn. It's little replicas of stores that are popular in the Brooklyn neighborhood. You can pretend to make a pizza at the famous, L&B Spumoni Gardens. They have props to create Pizza. Fun for kids and for all. Cafe- I had a grilled cheese and a soda. Price was average, enough of a selection to choose from to satisfy your tummy. Had a great time and will be back soon.

I really enjoy coming to this museum, and it has changed a lot throughout the years. Today on the second floor they had a Science + you exhibit and I noticed that there's no museum staff to control the way that the patrons use up the space. So when we went to the exhibit it was messy and out of control. In the first floor where they have the tots area the person attending was on the phone and not paying attention to the people coming in and out. Other than that we had a great time. If you have the NYCID you are able to get a free membership that is good for a whole year!

Love coming here with the toddler. We have a yearly membership which is so worth it. They have so many things at the museum and always have special events. There's usually a story time, meet the animals and celebrations of many different cultural holidays. Some stuff is a bit older but everything is very interactive and kids have a great time. It's never too crowded. Get here early if you want it to be nice and quiet. Plus stuff is still nice and organized early on. They have a great toddler area with water tables, sand area, music/drum area and toys. When the weather's nice there's an outdoor area right outside the cafeteria. You can eat outside too. Morris cafe serves food. It's a bit pricy for what it is so try to be prepared with snacks. Coat/stroller check included. They also have a cute gift shop.

Excellent learning experience for kids and even adults. I came here on a rainy Saturday and enjoyed all of the exhibits and hearing the laughter of young kids. I found the entrance fee to be a bit pricey for a children's museum but it did not deter me. The staff members are exceptionally nice and knowledgeable. The gift shop is amazing.

I really wanted to love this storied museum, but wound up feeling disappointed. It's also not exactly cheap -- a small group could easily spend over $100. The interactive play areas were enjoyed by the kids I was with. The exhibits could be updated or at least cleaned up a bit (e.g. sad looking taxidermy, worn out plastic fish, cloudy resin). My biggest gripe, however, is the safety and wellbeing of the live animals. The enclosures seemed clean and the animals all had food and/or water but the animals seemed depressed. I have a suspicion this is because children are *constantly* banging on their enclosures. The museum either needs more security or they need barriers separating guests from the enclosures. I tried to be understanding -- they're just kids -- but the museum must do better or they should be forced to find safe homes for these animals.

Very empowering experience here for my son. He thought he was the President at one point and with all of the media/ imagery today for our children to understand the POTUS he really took a liking to that exhibit area. Fun times and memorable for my family!

My twins enjoyed this museum. I came here after a strong recommendation from a friend. They loved the various interactive exhibits. Some standouts was the sandbox , musical instruments, camping exhibit, and the Lego center. This is a great museum designed for kids under 6. On Thursday it's free after 2!

Super hot and still requiring masks when AC is barely working when a kid is 2 years old.

The pretend stores were empty....not enough play food to make pizzas at the pizzeria....out of stock groceries in the little super market, not a single piece of dough to bake at the bakery! :-/ Down by the end was a play room right next to the fossils where there was a huge snake and one bird, both live. Inside the playroom (no shoes permitted) were some drums, a small rocker, and a hammock type swing. Nothing special really and on top of that it smells like sweat and feet, at least get a window or vent or some sort in there....so many kids running around in that small little room you really need to keep the air circulating. My last hope was the play area for toddlers, for kids up to age 5. My 3 and 1 year old kept being run over by the older kids or kids that were actually "5". It could've been cause I came on a really busy day with tons of kids visiting on a school trip, everything must of been misplaced. Didn't really have such a good experience here, was hoping to get a little something at the gift shop before we leave...wanna take a wild guess? Yes, almost everything was out of stock! Sigh....I guess for $10 a person I shouldn't really be complaining....

So let me tell you a story: It was a few days before Christmas of 2016 and we decided that our 2.5 yr old and four of her friends (and their parents) could come over to our apartment for some ye olde Xmas tidings. All was going well until the sugar kicked in. I still remember the moment I opened my daughter's bedroom door and saw her and a friend climbed up onto the dresser smearing frosting all over our walls, while the others span in circles holding jars of sprinkles that were flying everywhere. (Pro tip: do not leave 2.5yr olds alone to decorate cookies, EVER). A fuse blew in my brain and I quietly shut the door and went back to the adults outside. My daughter has never had a group of friends over since and guess where we do group kid outings now... That's right: the Brooklyn Children's Museum.

I visited the museum for free using the City Culture Pass that you can access with your library card. The museum is about a 15-20 minute walk from the subway station. This can depend on how slow or fast your child walks. It took me a long time since my two year old toddler is slooowwww. Anyway, on this weekday, the museum was generally quiet. No crowds. It's not a huge museum so you don't feel overwhelmed. They just have the right amount of exhibits for children to play. The exhibits are interactive. There's a toddler area for your toddler to have some time to run around, slide down the slide, and even a corner for water play! -- I avoided this area since my son has a habit of getting his whole body wet. There is a small cafe upstairs and an indoor area to eat and a big outdoor area to eat on a nice, sunny warm day. The cafe is just ok -- it's mostly snacks and smaller bites. You're better off bringing your own food if you want more than a snack.

I got to go here for free so it's not going to be super critical. However, I thought that I could do/see everything in about an hour. I did see a bunch of kids going crazy in the little street mock-up but for the most part everything just kind of went by quickly and I wasn't that crazed about it. Maybe because I'm a jaded adult now but there wasn't too much to do-although as a caveat it was undergoing renovations so a lot of their exhibits were not around-in particular their Burmese python, Fantasia was gone. I was sad about that, but so were a surprising amount of kids. Other than that, I really don't have anything necessarily bad to say about BCM. I got in for free. I saw some pretty interesting stuff. I kind of got bored, but then again I'm not a kid.

This makes a fun activity to do with kids. Can easily spend 3+ hours here. After you have explored the little sections of the museum head upstairs for the color lab shows that happen every hour or to the reading zoo where there's bean bags and puppets and bunches of books to read with the littles. My niece loved it and we had a fun, entertaining, and educational day the museum!

Rating it as good, because it's most likely the best children's museum in NYC based on its wide offering of activities for all ages (includ. 6yo), be it in and outdoors. It was crowded today (even with timed entry?, but given the vac rates and proof requirement, not so concerning) but skating, beautifully done maze, coloring shop and all their usual activities made the trek into Brooklyn worth wild.

There really isn't much to do. Not sure if it's covid-related but there were few toys or props at the exhibits (enough to make just one pizza at the replica or L&B Spumoni Gardens). The replica grocery store looked picked over (one of each item, most items were just real empty boxes of food items that were taped up). The tots area was fun but still pretty sparse and lacked toys / equipment. Not worth the visit, will likely never return despite being only 15 minutes away.

I took my 3 year old on a Saturday, but it was a little busy. My son loved everything and had a great time! So much to look at and explore. Parking was not an issue. My son lost his favorite hat Saturday there. I called Wednesday and spoke to lost-and-found and they placed it on the side for me to pick up Sunday! He had a huge smile when they gave it back!

Meh. Lots of potential here, but the exhibits feel run-down and the place is a mess. Things are scattered across the floor -- play materials, pencil crayons, lab coats, toy foods as school groups run amok.
