"If you’ve been to the Fort Greene farmers market and noticed a long line and nice-smelling potatoes, you’ve witnessed the effects of Brooklyn Curry Project. They’ve since stopped their weekly appearances, but the South Indian pop-up does events at a commercial kitchen in Downtown Brooklyn or sometimes at the Bed-Stuy coffee shop Commune—check Instagram for more details. The husband-and-wife team specializes in dosas (though they usually have a few other things like uttapam or idli). They take turns pouring dosa batter onto the flattop, swirling it around until it's so thin you can see through it, and then folding it around a heap of potatoes so that it’s crispy-crackly on the edges and soft in the center. Expect a wait—maybe bring a book—and order the whole menu if you've got friends in tow. Food Rundown Mini Idli Sambar Slippery rice and lentil dumplings bathing in a slightly spiced lentil stew. They might give you this to eat before your dosas are ready, which will tide you over if the wait is long. Masala Dosa Each dosa comes with a cooling green chutney and lightly pickled carrots and cucumbers. Even though the masala dosa and the ghee masala dosa are similar, you need to get both. This one is simple—just dosa and potato—which allows you to taste the chip-level crispiness of the dosa and the baby-soft mashed potatoes all by themselves. Ghee Masala Dosa This one is like the masala dosa with the addition of onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and lots and lots of ghee. Your fingers will be shiny by the end of it, in a triumphant sort of way." - Willa Moore

These guys have nailed it with the perfect taste of sambar and chutney and none of the Indian restaurants in nyc has done it, showcasing the taste of Bengaluru. The food’s great! It’s just the wait times for me that was off-putting. 2-3 hours just to get the dosa? I would think about it twice! Perhaps get a book or friend with you. Also I’m excited to try their future events.

Love love love Brooklyn Curry Project! I've been following (and eating!) with them for 2+ years now and am a regular at their family-style meals at Nimbus Kitchen in Downtown Brooklyn. The food only seems to get more delicious - my partner is South Indian and we have not been able to find more authentic South Indian food in NYC. Swetha and her family are such kind and gracious people, it has been amazing to see them succeed in building a real community around their incredible food. Highly recommend!

Yes the rumors are right this Dosa stand is totally worth standing in the line for. I arrived 1:10 and left at 3:15. Yes the line moves slow like super slow. There’s no pre ordering they accept cash or Venmo. After standing in grueling sun and literally watching a girl passed out. It felt like an extreme sport after which you will get rewarded with delicious dosa. If you like Dosas then this is one of the best in the city, forget saravana bhavan. Brooklyn curry project need to open a restaurant already. Like am tempted to try again but it takes most of your day! Although am glad they served everyone who was in line by 2 pm. They did ran out of most of the things. Definitely get sambar idli, it was so good I literally inhaled it. The dosa was tasty but it doesn’t come with sambar.

Google
Amazing place wonderful kind owners and staff, it’s popular for a reason. The wait is legitimately insane though if you don’t come early, so either be prepared to wait or get there when they open! You gotta be invested but I LOVED IT

Google
The Dosas and Idly is simply amazing , glad to have a place that serves Bangalore style food in Brooklyn , it’s definitely always a delight to start my day with dosas and refreshing drinks on a Saturday morning. It’s important to be patient and wait and sometimes the weather is unforgiving. It’s because of the soaring popularity and dosas are made one at a time because they are meant to be had fresh.

Google
Don’t buy the hype, you don’t need to wait 2.5 hours in the hot sun for a small soggy Dosa. Dosas take time to pour and cook, something I think most in line understood. However what was not clear was why it took 1.5 hours to take 40 people’s orders and an additional hour to fulfill them. The operating team’s archaic method of hand writing and stacking boxes with orders simply does not work for the volume of customers they have. It’s frankly disrespectful to their patrons time to be running their operations like this. Like many I was eager for a taste of home, but instead left tired, unfulfilled and disappointed.

Google
Ghee Dosa and Masala Dosa that we received were okay in taste. Thatte Idly was good. We noticed that dosas were a little burnt than usual and tasted burnt too.

If you're looking for a taste of authentic South Indian cuisine, look no further than this hidden gem! The masala dosa was perfectly crispy with a flavorful potato filling, and the lassi was refreshing. The best part? You can enjoy this delicious meal in the nearby park, a must-try for all food enthusiasts!

Yelp
This was my second attempt trying Brooklyn Curry Project. A couple of weeks ago I got to the farmers market at 11 and the line was too long. This time I got there before 10:30 and the line was shorter. I ended up getting my food about 1.5 hours later, but bring a book or a friend to catch up with and the wait goes by fast. We ordered a masala dosa and a ghee masala dosa. Both were incredible, but we would choose the ghee masala dosa next time because it was extra crispy and had tomatoes inside which I loved. The dosa was very thin and crispy and the potato filling was tasty. We also tried the iced chai and mango lassi which were good to sip on while we waited for our order. I would also recommend ordering the mini idli sambar because a) it was delicious and b) you get served it before the dosa so it was perfect to snack on while we waited for our food, which did take a while after we ordered. I will definitely be back and I can't stop thinking about the dosa I ate here!

Yelp
I finally got around to trying this stand on the side of Fort Greene Park. It was a rainy day but honestly I think that made for a better backdrop to enjoy their cooking. I was most excited for their tatte (plate) idli, which are topped with podi aka "gunpowder." I love the texture of these idlis compared to more traditional ones and I don't think this variety is on offer at any other South Indian restaurant in NY. We also had traditional masala dosas and chai. The dosa was nice and crispy, and was served with a well seasoned nariyal chutney. I found the chai a bit too heavy on the ginger, but it was still comforting on a rainy day. The wait is very long so try their pre ordering feature on their IG page!

Yelp
A dosa food stand that is only open on Saturdays, line up to get your dosa fix. They have recently offered new community events, such as a dosa eating contest that you can sign up and register for.. The dosa set was good! The lunch combo comes with pickled vegetables, khichdi, and moong sprout salad. The masala version comes stuffed with potato. Pro tip: always request for ghee with this, if asked. Try their idli, which are like spongy steamed dumplings, and the uttapam, which are open-faced crepes. For drinks, try their dragonfruit lemonade and chai! When we arrived, there was already a line - expect about a half an hour to an hour wait. You can find them at Willoughby and Washington Park, in front of the Fort Greene Park. Note that they're NOT part of the farmers market. Better updates on their social media can help those who are interested in checking them out - on a recent visit, their hours of operation randomly changed - we had other engagements so had to miss out on this visit. They are responsive if you reach out, though, which is a plus! +double check their hours of operation +friendly service +located at Willoughby and Washington Park

Yelp
Overall, the food and drinks are really good, what makes this place not worth it is the insane wait and the inefficient way they make their food. The dosa itself is good and the chai iced latte and mango lassi was also super good, but a 2.5 hour wait for a Dosa that you could get in Astoria or Jackson heights is not worth it. Dosas can only get so good, but try it if you want!

Yelp
got this at the fort greene farmers market. thankfully got in line right before they opened because it got long. ghee masala dosa was so crispy and flavorful. i can't remember the name of the other dosa but it had more spices and veggies. this one was softer. owners also made us a baby dosa and baby girl loved it!

Yelp
I've been coming here almost every weekend, Swetha is the sweetest entrepreneur. The food is always delicious, and while it does take time for them to make it, I know it's made with so much love and care. I also love that the ingredients are sourced from the community and how they support each other. Thanks for becoming the best part of my weekend!!

Yelp
This food was amazing. Get the masala dosa and mini idli sambar, the right amount of food to feel full but not stuffed. and perfect level of spice- truly a south indian gem!!

Pau R.

Yelp
DO NOT COME HERE UNLESS YOU ARE FRIENDS WITH THE OWNER. Food is so spicy it's inedible. The drinks were child size and not very good. The wait is over 2.5 hours! There came a point during the first hour where the line only got shorter because of the people who left. Friends of the owner repeatedly cut in line and ordered 10+ dosas and added to the wait for everybody else. There were more people leaving than getting served. NOTHING about this experience was worthwhile.

Yelp
If you love authentic South Indian food( it's usually spicy so don't crib about it later), then this is your go-to food joint. The food was like home-cooked food and so tasty. I tried their mushroom kheema dosa and it was so good. This place is a must try.
