"The height of convenience is coming to Deep Ellum on Monday, May 15, with Brooklyn Dumpling Shop. It’s an automat concept where diners can walk in and order, picking dumplings out of a locker, without having to deal with a human. It has a 32-flavor menu of dumplings stuffed with ingredients meant to evoke pepperoni pizza, Buffalo chicken, and a reuben, alongside more familiar Asian flavor profiles, including crispy pork and Kung Pao Chicken. It will also serve potstickers and “chop chop bowls.”" - Courtney E. Smith

"Brooklyn Dumpling Shop is coming to Deep Ellum — in the Good E block redevelopment, circa early 2023. With it comes some 23 kooky varieties of dumplings, including the Pac-Man themed dumplings below, as well as bacon cheeseburger dumplings, French soup dumplings, gyro dumplings, and pastrami dumplings. Franchisee Sam Cole plans five more franchises in the city." - Courtney E. Smith

The food was delicious! We tried the macaroni and cheese, gf pepperoni, cheeseburger, and apple pie dumplings. Every single one was amazing! They were made quickly after ordering and served hot. I would highly recommend checking this place out.

Arturo, the assistant manager was amazing and because of him, I’ll be a customer for life. I’m all about service and his friendly demeanor, personable personality and his willingness to explain so much on the menu led to me getting options that I’ll get every time I’m back.

Google
The food was ok. I wanted lo mein and they had none but I already had paid for it and they substitute it with rice which is half the price of the Lo mein. They fountain drinks were all out. Every drink I wanted there was none. I ended up paying for a fountain drink and at the end just got water. The workers were friendly. At the end of the day the food wasn’t really worth the hassle. The best thing was the waffle fries.

Google
Definitely a cool shop, interesting dining experience you order off of a computer and then it shows up in your locker and then you can dine in or take it to go if you'd like we took ours to go. We had the teriyaki chicken dumplings, the bacon cheeseburger dumplings and one other but it's slipping my mind flavors were definitely delicious and unique. They do fry the outside of the dumpling a little bit more than I'm used to so this would be a cheat meal for me for sure Great flavors a little pricey but that's what you have to expect in the city for unique delicious food.

Google
I ordered the Kung Pow Chicken Dumplings and they are amazing. So juicy inside, I couldn’t even take a picture I ate it so fast. I posted pictures lol for the second time that I went. Still good. 😌

Google
The pastrami and Swiss was amazing! My accomplice also really loves the bacon cheeseburgers. You must try these flavors. Some reviews talk about how the food is cold or seems reheated but I really didn't think that when I was eating my dumplings; they were crunchy and hot. Although, I can only speak for the specialty dumplings. Some problems we had with our order was that 1. We ordered an extra sauce (soy sauce) for 50 cents but we didn't receive the soy sauce and there's actually soy sauce packets next to the soda machine. 2. The instructions to receive your order are really confusing. I re read the instructions many times, but there is someone there to help you so it wasn't that bad. He also gave us some free sauce because it goes well with pastrami and Swiss and it did! I will say that the Korean BBQ wasn't my favorite. I think I was expecting more of a bulgolgi flavor, but it was kind of sour. My accomplice didn't mind though. We also got the apple pie dumplings very unique and we even got some ice cream to go with it. I really liked the ice cream and the apple pie dumplings were decent. The issue was that it was more sour than sweet to me

Google
Highly recommend visiting. I came in on a late night and ordered a teriyaki lo mein bowl. The lack of human interaction is weird but prompt.

Google
This place was just okay. The food was very mid. The dumplings were good but nothing better than frozen dumplings you can have at home. The rice was made perfectly and the soup tasted good as well. This is a place good for a quick lunch but nothing special. It’s a gimmicky place where you order on a kiosk and your food is placed into a locker for you to pick up. There is still an employee there to help you and she was very attentive and sweet. I wish they had more vegetarian options. Only had the dumplings and rice and sides. Not the bowl but perhaps the bowls are better. I went just to try a new place in the neighborhood but I probably wouldn’t go back.

Yelp
Solid, quick dumpling spot. Best I've ever had? Nope, but did it hit the spot when I was hungry? Sure did. It's not quite traditional, as they have sauces like ranch, and chicken parm dumplings, but I'm not complaining as even that was pretty good. They just put our food in the window and didn't use the square locker things, maybe because we were the only ones there at that moment. I saw a video online that said this place is an "automated" dumpling shop. It's not. But come for the food anyway.

Samantha C.

Yelp
Found this restaurant through one of the Dallas Influencer pages on IG. We were in the area and thought to stop by! Firstly, this is not an automated restaurant like the post made it seem (I was skeptical, but it's just disingenuous marketing). You order at a kiosk, and when your food is ready, you pick it up at the counter (someone will call your name). I believe if you have a pick up order, it will be in one of the lockers. Very casual establishment! The restaurant is small, but there are a handful of tables (large and small). Now back to the food! I didn't come here with high expectations because I knew the dumplings and bowls would not be "traditional". However, I will say that I appreciated the unique fusions the restaurant had on their take to dumplings! We ordered the sample variety (~12 dumplings) to try 3 different flavors: lemongrass, pork and cabbage, and buffalo chicken. The Buffalo chicken dumplings reminded me of calzones lol! Anyway, they were all pretty good! We also ordered an orange chicken rice bowl to share between us. Overall, it was good!

Yelp
This was a fun place. There are a couple of kiosk where you place your order and pay. You can get order notifications by watching the status on a screen in the dining area or you can get text alerts. Once the order is ready, you take your receipt and scan it, and a locked with your food will open. No human interaction needed! Despite putting in my own order, refilling my own drinks and picking up my own food from the locker- I was prompted to tip while I was paying. Additionally, I didn't see any options to pay cash at the kiosk, yet I was charged a surcharge for using a credit card. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, I just didn't love it. They had really neat options for foods however, the food didn't taste freshly hand made like a lot of the other dumpling places. I ordered the traditional chicken lemongrass dumplings but it had corn in it! I've never seen corn in a dumpling and it's one of the few foods on my 'absolutely will not eat' list. I spit that sucker out and moved on to the sweet and sour chicken golden bites. The sauce was good, the chicken was decent. I wouldn't go in expecting authentic. The vibe was great and the music was good. Oddly enough, despite no human interaction being needed, the service was great. Someone actually popped out and asked us if everything was okay. I'm definitely glad that I came and experienced this place.

Yelp
I don't know how I didn't know about this spot as much as I love dumplings! I was in deep Ellum and after a concert a friend suggested we go get dumplings and I will say I was confused because 1. It was late 2. I have never heard of this place. We walked in and this place is pretty much a self sufficient spot where you place your order via the kiosk, you get your receipt and wait for your name to come up on the board to tel you that your order is ready in which you scan your receipt and the locker opens for you to pick up your food. My only issue was my food was put on the top level and I couldn't reach my food so I had to ask the guy to please get my food for me. The dumplings were good, I was given the option of steamed or fried - I went with steamed - however next time I think I'll try fried. My friend who brought me here had some type of soup dumpling that came with rice . . . She really enjoyed it. There is plenty of seating and they are open late so if you are craving some dumplings, check this place out.

Silvia H.

Yelp
We stopped in and ordered at their kiosk which only accepts cards or contactless payment, no cash. Our food order printed a receipt with our barcode to scan at the food locker dispenser. Wine & Beer handed at purchase. My only concern is for dine-in utensils: We ordered soup dumplings but there was only regular tsp plastic cutlery offered. They advertise yummy dessert but it was not available when we visited which was a bummer The bites we got were packaged neatly in shareable portions. We loved the lo mein with soy sauce, & any fried dumpling was also yummy! Soup dumplings were missing ginger & vinegar chili sauce. I think a more accommodating dine-in setting would tie this cool concept together. I recommend checking it out!

Yelp
Sunday around 5pm this place was really quiet. I love that it is secluded off the main area of Deep Ellum. The dining area is cantina styled and you order via the kiosks and pick up in the lockers. I see the vision behind this cafe. Since everything is pretty much self-service, you get to focus on the food. I got a specialty dumplings combo meal and it came out to about $18. Delicious food. Very friendly for those who don't want social interaction.

Daniel M.

Yelp
This is my second visit. I pre ordered using the website, which was very convenient. The first time, I didn't know what to expect. Thankfully, the employees came out and walked me through the process. The TV monitor displays your order status. Once ready, you scan the QR code that gets sent via text, and your designated locker opens up with your food. Parking is relatively convenient. Typically, the Deep Ellum area is super hard to get a decent spot. The overall feel of the restaurant is that of a to-go place. Could have to do with the kiosk vs. human cashier. It's not bad at all. it's just different and new. That's a good thing, right? I'm a fan. For the price and convenience, it's a great spot, and I definitely recommend it.

Yelp
The Brooklyn dumpling shop is an absolute mess visit. Each dumpling was school of flavor and did not miss. The customer service was amazing and the service was really fast. Did I forget to mention that it was extremely clean in there?love it

Roger C.

Yelp
This place is a pretty neat concept. Order yourself on a screen, and you get your food out of your own locker when ready. If you like talking to real people, they are still back there, but pretty busy. SERVICE: Well since I helped myself, I was pretty nice and friendly (Hee hee). Actually, as I was fumbling through the menu screens a nice lady came out and helped me. FOOD: I ordered the fried dumplings and chow mein. It took a long time to get my food to appear in the locker....When I finally got my food, I took it right across the street and started eating. The dumplings were hot and tasted really good. The chow mein was a bit cool so that was a let down. I think they just opened up, so I am sure they are still working out some kinks. I think I will try the soup dumplings next time.

Paley W.

Yelp
A fun place to try out dumplings. I wouldn't say the dumplings are authentically Asian but they were not too bad. The mechanism of how you get the food is supposed to be pretty modern. You get a barcode sent to your phone and you can scan it at a food locker to unlock and grab your tray. My code was malfunctioning though and I had to ask a staff to get my food. Also if you get a drink then you have to ask someone too, lol. Do wish there were a bit more dumplings for the combo meals but I was able to get full eat the waffle fries, which weren't too bad. Go early so you can find a parking spot somewhere. Don't count on parking directly in front of the restaurant.

Chia B.

Yelp
This is one of the trendiest casual restaurants I've tried in a long time. I tried the Korean beef dumplings and a bowl with fried chicken, peanut sauce and noodles. You order the food through a kiosk, once the food is ready you scan your receipt, and the food appears in a little space. It feels futuristic and fun. During lunch it wasn't very busy and I received my order quickly. I liked the noodles, the dumplings were okay, and my edamame was salty. Next time I would try the more traditional flavors, but overall I would return.

Danny K.

Yelp
I had such high hopes but unfortunately it was just okay. The flavors were just not hitting but they also had a limited menu (I'm assuming because they ran out earlier in the day). I will say the service was amazing.

Carra F.

Yelp
The menu here is amazing and the staff were incredibly nice and helpful. It's an interesting concept because you order at a kiosk and then when your order is ready they put it in a see through locker. You have to scan the QR code on your printed receipt or on your phone if you gave them your number in order for the locker to open and to retrieve your food. I don't like dumplings but this place is so much better! What caught my attention was their dessert options. The PB&J dumplings were so good. They're filled with warm peanut butter with the jam on the side. You definitely need the ice cream because the peanut butter is very thick. I can't wait to go back to here!

Mark J.

Yelp
Update 7/11 Management was very responsive to the issue I mentioned in the review. They reached out to me and refunded my order. I appreciate the response and I will come back another time and give them a second chance.

Jo B.

Yelp
Unfortunately, does not live up to the hype. Everything was fine, clean. I got the Korean BBQ beef dumplings with sweet and sour sauce and they were just okay at best. Sweet mush of beef inside. I was just expecting something tastier and more unique than the mechanical doors. It was fine to try once but wouldn't hunt for parking to go again.

Matthew W.

Yelp
We knew coming in that this wasn't a restaurant that served traditional dumplings. We were still excited to try their fusion flavors and unique spin. Unfortunately, the dumplings did not meet our expectations. We ordered the chicken wonton soup, lamb gyro dumplings, crispy cheeseburger dumplings, and waffle fries. Chicken wontons - soup tasted like chicken broth not a lot of depth. The wontons were over cooked the wrapper was falling apart and the filling was tough Lamb Gyros - dumpling wrapper was thick and undercooked. The filling was creamy with a yogurt sauce, but lacked any lamb flavor. Cheeseburger - the flavor was good, but not very crispy, again due to the thickness of the wrapper Waffle fries - the best food option, crispy and battered, well seasoned Overall the food was a 2, but the host/server was friendly and everyone else looked like they were enjoying their food.

Yelp
I kept seeing this place show up all over Instagram and had to finally give it a try. My first impression is that the place was really cute, you order your food yourself via a screen, then you take your receipt up and scan the barcode, then a door opens up so you can take your food from a little box. I ordered the Kung pao noodles, Kung pao dumplings, and the veggie potstickers. My friend ordered the 12 piece box that she mixed and matched that had the bulgogi, Mac and cheese, chicken parm, and Kung pao chicken dumplings. I hate to say it, but I was super disappointed. The Kung pao noodles were chewy and it seemed like they just poured Sweet and Sour sauce on them. The Kung pao dumplings were marginally better, they were actually hot and fresh and tasted a little bit like actual Kung pao chicken. The veggie potstickers were the winner here, it's really hard to mess those up. The Mac and cheese dumplings really did taste like Mac and cheese, but everything else was not really good. Overall I'm not sure what the hype is about. I guess the concept is cute and insta worthy but there is no way I'm going back. The food just isn't good.

Amaya R.

Yelp
It was pretty good dispute only having pork soup dumplings. The rice and potstickers made up for it. I don't usually eat pork but i tried the Dumplings in Broth, both hot and regular, and they were soooo good!!! The fries might even be better than Chik-fil-a's fries ! Only thing i would add is if they did chicken dumplings in broth and veggie dumplings in broth for people who don't eat pork. That's, to me, worth -2 stars, but the rest of the menu is pretty good ! I will be back

Kayla G.

Yelp
Was really excited to try this place but was a little underwhelmed. It's a cool concept for a place. Almost completely contactless, you order at a kiosk and then a screen tells you when your order is ready then you scan the receipt and a little cubby opens with your food. There is a worker helping for any troubles trying to get the food out which is nice. The dumplings were alright, nothing amazing but still good. The fries were crispy and delicious though. Edamame was seasoned well and I could eat those all day. My biggest complaint is I didn't realize sauces were extra, wish they would include at least one or two with the food for the price you are paying. I ordered noodles on the side and they were basically buttered noodles since again I didn't realize I had to pay extra to get sauce on them. Ended up not eating them, taking them home and adding my own sauce to them. I also wanted to try so many of the unique dumplings they had but they only allowed mix and match for a large order and still only allowed to do three flavors. Highly recommend for them to change this and allow more mixes as well as offer them in smaller quantities.

Morgan D.

Yelp
Passed by this place and derided to check it out. Fake chicken no thank you. Not real dumplings. Big disappointment. Not really sure what I was eating

Taren C.

Yelp
Thank you Jeremiah and Jayson!! Staff was very helpful. Such a cute place. Food was good, the unique ordering and warm locker delivery system was a nice touch. Korean fried dumplings and pork soup dumplings were tasty. Feels more like street food/fast food than fancy sit down type but hit the spot for sure!! Just what we were looking for.

Rachel R.

Yelp
Quick delivery, great dumplings, interesting menu items to spice things up! They also sent me a free desert

Jofranz A.

Yelp
Ambiance is pretty nice. Ordering experience was a little confusing as I placed an order, after waiting around 15-20 minutes, it said it was ready through text.... So you have to scan your receipt to retrieve your order and it said order not found.... On the screen in the store it said my order was still being made... Okay......I wait again for another 5-8 minutes then it says it's ready..... Scan the receipt again and it's the same "order not found". They have a person walking around the shop if you need help and she tells me it's not ready yet. I wait for another 5 minutes and apparently the food has "been there" (told by the person walking around the shop) in the receptacle. First off how am I supposed to know my food was sitting there when the two indicators that tell me my food is ready incorrectly told me it was ready before my order was actually ready? Food was alright. Ordered the Kong Pao Dumplings, Pork Dumplings in Broth and the Pastrami/Swiss Dumplings. Wrapper was a bit too thick on the Pastrami Dumplings. Broth was the best part and the rest you can find better elsewhere.

Anna N.

Yelp
The place was super cute and efficient! There was a staff there that explained the process and how to place orders. They were super sweet and informative! For the food I would recommend getting every dumpling crispy. Seared is not as good. Dessert both pb&j and apple is great! Get it with ice cream. I didn't try any of their rice bowls bc I was there for the dumplings. My favorite was the cheese burger one dumpling, Kbbq and chicken teriyaki. Oh and they were playing really great music while we were dinning in. Always a plus in my book!

Jenny D.

Yelp
This place was so delicious, I ordered it two days in a row. I had the kung pao chicken, the veggie dumplings and the pork dumplings. Everything was fresh and bursting with flavor. The kung pao chicken was cooked perfectly and the sauce had a great taste with a nice punch. If you like dumplings this is the spot. Besides the delicious food the menu and counter style pick up is a lot of fun!

Vanessa V.

Yelp
Pretty cool concept, you order on kiosks and food comes out in cool automatic box. We dined it very limited menu We both did a combo drink , side and choice of dumplings. I had spicy dumplings in broth with white rice , broth was plain . Bland no flavor I had to add soy sauce and siracha to enhance the flavor so therefore a 3 out of 10. Second meal was the terriyaki dumplings with sweet potato fries. Fries 10. Dumplings were good but they didn't provide a dipping sauce for it. So super dry. We really loved the bulgogi specialty dumplings out of our whole meal . One lady/ host kinda helping at kiosk and any in person help Fountain drinks were flat. Too much of a hype. Food was meh. Didn't even fill me up. More like a quick grab stop. Won't come back

Daniel C.

Yelp
Can't wait to go back! Simple stuff but it's fresh and they offer a variety of different dumpling options from experimental to traditional. Staff was there to help with ordering as it is mainly manual. Two servings was not enough - the gyro was good and so were the fries. Definitely not enough seating if it gets busy so maybe they can expand if it does well in Dallas!

Katie L.

Yelp
Jason was awesome and I loved the gluten-free dumplings!! I'm definitely coming back here.

Greg D.

Yelp
Really interesting concept and amazing food. Loved the creative dumplings (pepperoni pizza and buffalo chicken were my favorite. Son loved chicken parm). Dessert dumplings rocked too. We will be back for more!

Lucinda R.

Yelp
Food was not a hit for our entire family. Service was great. Numerous items on the menu were unavailable. Bummer.

Heather C.

Yelp
Love this spot! Our favorites are the mac and cheese, Philly cheesesteak and Reuben dumplings. We also love the crispy chicken bites with king pao sauce, all the potstickers fire pork soup dumplings!!! Super cool concept and my kids love it! Can't wait to go back!

Hayley J.

Yelp
Jin was amazing! Drinks were tasty and food was amazing. Ordered the Viet-spresso, shishito peppers and veggie spring rolls. Will be back!

M C.

Yelp
The food and service are great. It's a new business and management is doing a great job to create a positive experience. Place is clean and welcoming.

Robert A.

Yelp
Meh. There's definitely better Asian food in Dallas. The breading for the fried dumplings is way too heavy. The big gimmick is ordering at a screen and getting it delivered in a locker.

Steven M.

Yelp
Just ate here for the second time and the food was excellent. Cool concept and the staff was really nice. I'll be back again!

William Y.

Yelp
The staff at the shop went above and beyond to make our experience great! When we walked in, the staff explained the menu thoroughly of how to order, recommendations, and how to get our food when it was ready. Super cute and efficient. They did mess up our order the first time, however, got a new batch and corrected it in no time. Service was 5/5 stars. For the quality at it's price point, I would give it a 3/5. We ordered the kung pao chicken, and beef bulgogi. We ordered the dumplings to be fried, however, it'd probably be closer to what you'd expect a traditional dumpling to be if it was seared. Would probably stick with seared next time. Flavors were good and delicious. Definitely worth a try for the concept or if you're looking for a quick lunch in the area. Parking can be challenging.

Gabe H.

Yelp
Best pork potstickers in Dallas! Kids loved the fries too. Great environment and cool location. Can't wait to go back!

ruben j.

Yelp
Twice in 1 day. Dumpling are great. Can't wait to try every flavor. Cool concept. We met the owner real nice guy and learned a little about the business. Overall a great experience

Tori K.

Yelp
Food was good and we would definitely come back! However, we had a pretty odd experience- the place is meant to be completely self serve you order, you pick your food up etc which was fun and high tech. However, we had the woman who was working the seating area force herself in to every step of the way even after telling her we didn't need help. Part of the fun is getting to do it yourself and take pictures it's fun and different and we just kinda felt like we had a babysitter the whole time. Her interactions seemed very forced and fake and not natural and she just was in our space a little too much. There was a mix up where we ordered sweet and sour and they gave us sweet chilli - the same woman argued with me that it was the same before the manager peaked up and corrected her after I had even told her it was okay if it was the same thing in their end; I just didn't want a spicy sauce if they had something else like teriyaki or plum sauce that's all I wanted but she was very insistent. But food was great! It does take a while but they were great and hot- the apple pie dumplings were our favourites

Jesse M.

Yelp
The concept for this restaurant is that you order, and then the food is ready in little lockers for you to grab at your pickup time. In reality, that seems to not be how it works at all. I walked in to pick up the order well after the pickup time, for the food not to be ready, and they lost the order. They had no record an order was placed. There was no apology - only to be given the run around and excuses that made absolutely zero sense. Just say, "sorry we misplaced your order, we're making in now. Give us 2 mins". After all this, we finally get the food and I knew I should have checked it... of course it was wrong. The food we did get was very meh. Suffice it to say, will never go back.

Sylvia M.

Yelp
The ladies working at the shop went above and beyond to try and make our experience great! They had great advice for ordering. I love the pizza dumplings, the chicken was really great in our bowl. The peanut butter and jelly dumplings were super tasty. I definitely preferred the fried over the seared dimpl

Jason Z.

Yelp
Really solid dumping spot, quick service and incredibly friendly woman working in the dining area. Offered great recommendations and was welcoming. This was a surprise find with surprisingly good prices. Will definitely be back!

Harvey C.

Yelp
On camera this place looks great! But, to be honest its overly social media hyped. I was let down, the food was just not that good.

Chris D.

Yelp
I guess I am the only one that does not like this concept. When I experience a new place, I want to know what they are known for or what is good. That usually means I need to speak with someone. I took a look at the little counter they for someone, but no one came out. This means I had to take a shot in the dark at there kiosk. The food was ok, but out of the 5 things I ordered nothing popped. I was very disappointed.

Natalie B.

Yelp
I saw this place on social media and it looked delicious, so I had high hopes for it but was sorely mistaken. I went with a friend this afternoon around 2 pm for lunch. We were one of 3 people in there and it took over 30 minutes to get our order. Not only that, but by the time we got our order, it was cold and the food practically had no flavor! It was extremely bland. The self service check out doesn't even have all of the flavors that are advertised on the menu and when I asked the employee to clarify what was actually available, she didn't even know and couldn't tell me. The REAL reason I am writing this review is that I am currently laying in bed with my stomach bloated to 4 times it's natural size absolutely MISERABLE with one of the worst cases of food poisoning that I've EVER had! I know for a fact it was from this restaurant because all I had to eat today was a fruit smoothie for breakfast at my house and then for lunch 5 traditional dumplings, a water, and edamame from this restaurant. I have felt weird all day until the brunt of it really hit me at night. In sum, DO NOT eat here if you want fresh food that won't make you sick.

Emily O.

Yelp
I really liked the GF vegan chicken and cheeseburger dumplings. My friends had the Apple Cinnamon dessert dumplings which they loved. Staff was very friendly.

Jeff G.

Yelp
Just had a terrific lunch at Brooklyn Dumpling Shop. The Korean BBQ dumplings were amazing, just gushing with flavor. Close seconds were the buffalo chicken and the pastrami Reuben dumplings. All crispy. So many other things look great on the menu, so I'll definitely be back to try more. Last, I have to tip my hat to the service--job well done!

Camille P.

Yelp
Kiosk only ordering system. Only 1 kiosk. Very limited seating available. Most items not even available to be ordered. There are many dining options in Deep Ellum. Brooklyn Dumpling Shop won't last unless it works out all of kinks. One star for now.

Maritza A.

Yelp
Food was terrible, teriyaki chicken was salty af. Dumplings had no flavor. Took an hour to get out food and still forgot an item. Wouldn't recommend. Service was the only good thing about the restaurant
