The Newest Restaurants In Philadelphia - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Brooklyn Dumpling Shop on South Street is essentially selling dumplings, potstickers in broth, and burgers the way The Jetsons promised. Here, you push a few buttons on a kiosk, stand in front of a locker, and your order eventually appears. Looks like the Philly location of this national chain (which is slated to open two more spots in the city) could work for a grab-and-go lunch or maybe a late-night meal while drunk couples argue outside near a trash can. It could also be a dystopian nightmare. We'll let you know." - Candis Mclean, Alison Kessler

Brooklyn Dumpling Shop has garnered attention for its inventive take on a beloved classic. Located in the heart of South Street, this establishment offers a unique menu that features a variety of dumplings with both traditional and modern flavors. The dumplings are made fresh and come in a range of options, including vegetarian and gluten-free varieties. Popular choices include the classic pork dumplings, Korean style bbq, and even dessert dumplings filled with sweet surprises. The ambiance is casual and inviting, making it a great spot for a quick bite or a casual meal with friends. Prices are generally reasonable, especially considering the quality and creativity of the food. Overall, Brooklyn Dumpling Shop is a must-visit for dumpling lovers looking to experience a fusion of flavors in a laid-back setting. Whether you're a local or just passing through, it's worth stopping by for a taste of their innovative dumplings.

Google
Food was delicious! They offer plant based substitutes for the chicken which was a nice plus. Atmosphere is chill with a cool dining area upstairs! Will definitely be back.

Google
The food was pretty good, a bit pricey but that’s expected with their location. clean restaurant, fast & friendly service.

So I ordered through a delivery service and at first they gave me a wrong order then five min late another driver dropped my order off too. Then the food was ice cold. The sauce tasted like straight alcohol I really don't want to get drunk on dumpling sauce. And there was very little meat and very soggy dumplings when I ordered them fried or crispy or whatever it's called. 10/10 would not recommend at least not on delivery

While on my recent trip to Philly, I visited the newly opened Brooklyn Dumpling Shop on South Street, and it was an absolute delight! Their creative and tasty dumplings are a culinary treat, and the unique ordering experience adds a fun twist. Watching your food magically appear behind one of the doors is both exciting and convenient. Having first experienced Brooklyn Dumpling Shop in Dallas, I had high expectations, and this location did not disappoint. The veggie dumplings were delicious, and I would have ordered more if I hadn't just come from lunch! The entrees are just as impressive as the dumplings, offering a variety of flavors that cater to all tastes. If you're in the area, I highly recommend stopping by Brooklyn Dumpling Shop for a fun and flavorful dining experience. It’s a perfect spot to enjoy innovative dumplings and more, right in the heart of Philly.

Google
Tried out the dumpling shop and got the gyro and buffalo dumplings with waffle fries. The fries were very good, perfect crunch. The dumpling flavor didn't stand out too much for the buffalo, but they were a good size. My main critique is that there isn't a blue cheese option for buffalo.

Google
Ordered on caviar. This is so expensive!. You get 3 dumplings per order for $6! They are small. Little filling. One bite and done. They are half the size of dumplings at Chinese restaurant. You can get 6 dumplings bigger size for $8 with dipping sauce. They don't even give you dumpling sauce , you have to buy for $1. The orange ginger bowl with shrimp over rice was a bowl of soup. There was so much sauce , it was too much. would ask for rice on side. The cucumber salad was tasteless. needed to marinate for hours to get flavor. Not worth the money.

Yelp
It's an Amazon Locker-style "dumpling" spot, so it feels odd to really rave about or put it down or give it too much thought. It is what it is. Pros: + Even though there's a wall separating you from the staff, I peaked my head in to see what was going on and the woman working was very sweet and helpful. + The peanut sauce is very good. + Open until 2am on weekends for your late night snacking needs. + Super easy order ahead process for those who want to walk in, scan a code, and be on their way. + Leaning into the Philly love with their graphics and murals. Cons: + Unfortunately most of the items we ordered (KBBQ dumplings, peanut noodles, soup) fell flat. The dumplings lacked flavor, the peanut noodles lacked substance, and the soup would really only be great if you're sick and need some heat in your sinuses. + The impersonal vibes are not for me. I would much prefer to support real people and have the service experience when I stop by. Essentially, going somewhere a bit more delicious where I can also say hi to a human and engage in that way. + We ordered at the kiosk since this was a last minute decision and the food still took about 15-20 minutes to be ready. I don't think I'll be back but glad to have at least SOME kind of fast casual food option open late on South Street.

Yelp
Honest Review- I was super excited for this one, and maybe my high hopes were the reason for the lack of stars, but keep reading to understand. 1. The concept is amazing ! Place an order on the kiosk, pay with your phone or credit card. 2. Watch your name appear on the screen, admire the graffiti 3. Name appears on screen as ready to be picked up. Scan QR code 4. Watch the windows open and carry your food to your table to enjoy 5. Get disappointed with the dumplings. One expects dumplings to be either steamed or lightly pan fried. Not deep fried, nearly all the dumplings tried, happened to be or seem to be deep fried, we tried the sampler which had kung pao chicken, bulgogi beef and gyro flavors. The dumplings were so over cooked and over flavored that we couldn't differentiate between the beef and chicken. Gyro dumplings were still okay. We also tried a bowl with chicken and brown rice which was okay. The peanut noodles were down right depressing. Like you would expect something on the lines of Dan Dan noodles, but these were so sweet, less savory. Not sure why the hype. The space is cool with upstairs and unique merchandise, but food could be better.

Yelp
Ordered 2 "variety packs" - tried everything except the kung pao flavor dumpling. I was skeptical about a lot of these flavors but gave them all a try. Loved: Reuben Mac and cheese Bacon cheeseburger Korean bbq Pork and cabbage GF Apple pie Meh: Gyro (does NOT taste anything like a gyro) Brownie (hard shell? Very weird) Hated: Peanut noodles - what even are these? Not what you would expect a good peanut noodle dish to taste like

Yelp
We came here shortly after it opened and I was excited. There were few people in the joint when we showed. The food feels lightly uninspired. I didn't find anything where I was like "wow that's unique." Or "that sounds really good." I tried nearly everything on the menu. The flavors were a bit weird. With every dish I got close to liking it and there was something that would throw me off whether it be texture, flavor, or combination. The upstairs is cute but feels empty and out of place. There's not enough room for the ordering near the front door and nearly nowhere to stand and wait.

Yelp
The The menu offered a decent variety of dumplings, but the flavors were fairly standard and lacked excitement. The ambiance was unremarkable, with a rather plain and functional decor. Service was average, with staff being polite but not particularly attentive or enthusiastic. While the dumplings were satisfactory, they didn't stand out, and some were a bit bland. Prices were reasonable, but considering the overall experience, I wouldn't go out of my way to return. This place is fine if you're in the area, but there are better dumpling options elsewhere.

Yelp
We came here the second day they were open. Pretty good experience. You order from a kiosk and then pick your food up from a heated box. The food we ordered was delicious. The chicken bites with the garlic noodles was sooo good. We ordered a few different kinds of dumplings but I don't remember what they were. All in all this is a fairly decent place with good food. They do have seating upstairs with chargers in the tabletop.

Yelp
Food was subpar. The dumplings were okay but the broth that they were in tasted like a can of Campbell's chicken noodle soup. The service took about 15-20 mins. The murals on the wall were cool, the second floor dining area was also nice.

Patrick D.

Yelp
A fun option. A modern day automat. Fire chicken dumplings in broth and peanut noodles. Both tasty. But really enjoyed the automat experience. And note the fire was spicy. In a good way

Jeff W.

Yelp
The dumpings were awesome. It was easy to order and the wait was short. Enjoyed it quite a bit.

Yelp
Really expected more from this place. Spent 50 dollars on four items, which is fine but the food was absolute trash. I would probably only eat here if I was drunk. The peanut noodles tasted like fettuccini Alfredo, and I don't mean that in a good way

Yelp
If you want good dumplings go elsewhere. Social media hyped this place up. The food reminds me of Panda Express a bootleg version to be exact. The dumplings were burnt and taste like the fryer. They charge you for sauces that aren't filled completely to the top. The Kung pao sauce doesn't taste like true kung pao sauce.

Yelp
Echo most of the comments here: the impersonal automat style of the first floor is just uninviting. There is a larger second floor for dining but it was nearly empty. We didn't get any plates or anything for sharing our dumplings. Had to use napkins. And worst of all, the dumplings were disappointing: fried but not crunchy, just chewy. As for the fillings for the dumplings, they were hit or miss but even the hits (the bacon cheeseburger for me) were just good, not great.

Yelp
The place looks really cool and nice. I was pretty excited to try this place but food is decent. The dumpling in broth tasted kind of a mix of spices and flavors that were just throw together. The peanut noodles were okay, but with the peanut sauce, I felt it needs a kick to it to balance the creaminess. The dumplings were pretty good! The Reuben was okay and probably my least favorite of the three. The kung pao was pretty good. I enjoyed the Korean bbq beef though. That one was good!

Mia P.

Yelp
I love this new spot on South Street. I highly recommend the mac & cheese dumplings, burgers and peanut waffle fries!!!

Yelp
I ordered the chicken bites and pork dumplings. The chicken bites were really good but the dumplings had obvious freezer burn. Pickup is awkward with the boxes and nowhere to pack your bag to go. I won't be back.

Fred M.

Yelp
I love the dumplings. Nice atmosphere and efficient wait staff. I wish they had an "all you can eat" option. Delish !

Serena P.

Yelp
The dumplings were.... Deep fried (), tasteless, small and not completely cooked through. The cheesesteak filled ones were very mushy. The cabbage / pork and Korean bbq lacked flavor. All dumplings had a thick fried layer of dough and not much more. Very expensive for what they are, and the place is very impersonal. Bare. Like Amazon pick up locker. Spare yourself.

Kait W.

Yelp
I was really excited for this place to open but it's a huge letdown. $9 for 5 dumplings is a lot and they were nothing to write home about. The dough is thick and dry, the filling is the only thing saving this from being a one star review. Not worth it, won't be coming again. Not somewhere to come if you want reasonable prices or authenticity.

Kidrum13 H.

Yelp
prices are entirely too high for the amount and quality of the food. $9 for 5 tiny dumplings and $10 for a bowl of potsticker soup with broth that literally tastes like a can of Cambell's beef and rice soup. They're really going to have a hard time selling that to a summertime south street crowd. I really wanted this place to live up to the hype. I was sadly disappointed.

Sheila N.

Yelp
We enjoyed the Korean potstickers , veggie dumpling soup & the peanut noodle bowl. David was welcoming and helpful as we ordered with suggestions!! Kitchen was fast to get the food out .Nice vibe and love the mix of music playing!

Taylor U.

Yelp
Really bad food. I rarely write reviews, but this was the biggest disappointment. Ordered the crispy chicken bites - they were soggy. Ordered the Korean BBQ Dumplings - they were so chalky, tasted like they were microwaved. Ordered the pork & cabbage potstickers in broth and it was AWFUL - the broth tasted like sewage water, there was rice in the broth?? Nothing was seasoned. It was icky.

Yelp
If I could give no stars I would because I wasn't even able to pick up my order. I had ordered food on New Years Eve around 9:30pm with a pick up time for 9:55pm. I checked the store hours on the website which says 11am to 10:05pm, so I was expecting to be able to pick up my food. However, when I arrived, the store was absolutely closed, no one in sight and chairs were stacked up on tables. From outside you can literally see the orders on the board, just pending/in progress. And I assume they were already closed when I originally put in the order because if someone was around, they probably would have canceled it or called me back to say they cannot fulfill my order. Thus showing rather inaccurate store hours. As my credit card was still charged, I called the next morning on New Years to make sure that my order was canceled and refunded and no one answered, so I again assumed that they were closed for the actual holiday. I tried my luck again on 1/2/24 several times and still no one answered the phone. I don't understand why a business provides a telephone number if they aren't going to answer it. The website clearly says if an order needs to be canceled, to reach out to the merchant with the phone number provided.

Yelp
Great new addition to the neighborhood! Tried the Korean BBQ, Mac n Cheese and the Pastrami crispy dumplings and all were awesome! The space was extremely clean and the owner Nick was very helpful and friendly. I will definitely be back again soon!

Jade H.

Yelp
Had pork potstickers in broth and it was extremely salty, the actual potstickers themselves were alright, I've had better but the broth made it inedible I was genuinely disappointed. I had also gotten their waffle fries with peanut sauce and it was really good. I think the worst part of the experience eating in was how fucking HOT it was in there. Omg I felt like I was melting in 90 degree weather I can only imagine how the workers felt in the kitchen. They genuinely need to lower the fucking thermostat. I'd like to give them another shot and get something different but besides that it was mediocre imo.

Alyse S.

Yelp
A fun, easy way to enjoy all the dumplings! highly recommend the soup dumpling options

Steve M.

Yelp
Very good quick food. Tasty. Really enjoyed the variety of things we orders and shared. It's worth your time and $

Yelp
The sweet and sour was delicious, and I loved the garnish. The rice was perfectly cooked and the service was great!
