Brooklyn Kolache - Review - New York - The Infatuation

"We love a good mashup (we're not mad at this Nine Inch Nails vs. Carly Rae Jepsen one), so why not throw a Tennessee culinary tradition into a Texas one and see what happens? For the month of Feb, beloved hot chicken purveyor Hattie B’s has teamed up with Brooklyn Kolache to fill one of their Czech-style breakfast pastries with cayenne-covered chicken, pork sausage, and spicy sauce. A portion of each sale will be donated to The Giving Kitchen in Nashville and Brooklyn's The Campaign Against Hunger. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

Brooklyn Kolache Closes Manhattan Outpost After Wire Fraud Drama - Eater NY

"Brooklyn Kolache, a Bed-Stuy cafe that helped introduce New Yorkers to Texas-style kolaches over a decade ago, has closed its off-shoot location at 185 Bleecker Street, near MacDougal Street, in the West Village after a year and a half. Owner Autumn Stanford, a native Texan, confirmed the closure to Eater on Monday morning, adding that the bakery had been hit by wire fraud last fall totaling some $15,000 in losses. Business at the second location had already been slow, she says, and the Manhattan outpost would likely have closed this spring regardless. The theft accelerated those plans; the bakery’s last day was January 29." - Luke Fortney

A Running List of New Restaurants That Opened in New York City, June 2021 - Eater NY

"In parts of Texas, kolaches are similar to doughnuts or bagels, Brooklyn Kolache owner Autumn Stanford explains. Customers can find them at gas stations, boutique bakeries, and even as breakfast items at schools in Houston. But here in New York, the jam- and sweet cheese-filled pastries have been slower to catch on. Since opening the first location of Brooklyn Kolache in Bed-Stuy nine years ago, a handful of cafes have started to sell the Czech-Tex invention, but primarily in Brooklyn. Now Manhattan is getting a kolache bakery to a call its own, a walk-up counter from Brooklyn Kolache with plans to serve roughly 15 of the pastries daily, along with coffee from local roaster Kitten. There’s a few tables and chairs out front, but Stanford recommends eating her pastries in nearby Washington Square Park." - Luke Fortney

I ordered the spiced maple latte and it was delicious! The spice wad not too strong so it will be good for those who doesn't like spice drink! I didn't taste that much of maple sugar in the drink but the drink overall was rich & creamy! Really like the espresso was not over roasted so it wasn't taste either bitter or sour!! Only one thing I wished was the drink to be steamed hotter (it was warm enough to drink right away but I like my coffee really hot so I can enjoy it longer)! This place is a to-go place since there is no sitting area inside the store, but some at the outside. Tip: 10% discount if you bring student ID!!

I walk by this place all the time and finally popped in to try it. The good morning latte was exactly what I needed. Strong, flavorful, and delicious. The Cinnamon Roll pastry was amazing. I get why this place is so popular. It was packed with flavor and so soft and flaky. I recommend going early because they sometimes will run out of the favorites by the afternoon.

Smaller and newer outpost from their Bedstuy location. Love their daily made “menu” with real kolaches out on display. My all time favorite is the mushroom, this time I wasn’t that big of a fan of the spinach feta as there was a slight sweet sugary taste as in old, expired spinach? Kolaches we’re still fresh and chewy, just how I like it. Love they have seasonal rotating drinks, I tried the lavender latte but was tempted by their “magical matcha”, maybe next time. They keep their Ube latte on the menu, seems at the other location this is a seasonal offering only. Small outdoor eating section, since it’s so small inside you can wait outside and there’s a window where your name will be called for drinks. Lovely service. Great way to start your day! NYU discounts available.

I was so happy that I stopped by here! The kolache is out of my expectation and the coffee was great too! 🌟It’s all about the dough, so just pick the flavor you like. It was really soft, chewy, melting-in-mouth with a good fermented smell and taste. It reminded me Japanese soft bread. I had the blueberry sweet cheese one immediately and can’t wait to have the chocolate ganache one later. ☕️The coffee was also wonderful. I got the bitter sweet mocha which the flavor was well balanced and the foamed milk was creamy. Highly recommended!

Brooklyn Kolache is a specialty bakery of “kolache” that offers up a wide coffee and tea menu. the space is super clean and neatly organized—modern and brightly lit. there’s no seating inside but there is covered seat outside in the front aka wooden shed. the variety of sweet and savory kolache are displayed front and center. Brooklyn Kolache is a short walk distance from Washington Square Park if you truly want to snack Al fresco. the highlight of Brooklyn Kolache is, of course, the menu of soft baked pastries aka koclahe. the Kolache is a soft puffy baked snack with a sweet or savory filling. there are four types of Kolache offered daily: sweet, veggie, egg, and meat. limited batches of each are made, so they do sell out of flavors. got the sausage cheese jalapeño kolache and it was delicious. layers of thin pastry, soft melt-in-your mouth consistency like brioche, and cheesy savory goodness of cheese + sausage. a perfect pocket of carbs, fat, and protein when you want something to take the hunger edge off but don’t want something as heavy as a meal. if they have a chocolate kolache (available) get that bc they sell out fast! the iced drip coffee was okay/ meh—i’d skip it. kolache range in price from $4.50-$5.50 + tax + tip. the iced drip coffee was $4 + tax + tip. staff are personable and chill.

Their drip coffee is good! I just got a simple black coffee. I’m from Texas and was surprised to see a kolache place here in the Village. (We have a lot of kolaches in Texas, oddly.)

A great addition to the neighborhood! I’ve tried the a sweet and a savory kolache as well as the Cinnamon Roll, all were delicious! Soft pastry and awesome flavor. Great coffee too! Also wanted to mention, the staff this morning gave food and water to a homeless man who entered the shop asking for money. Kindness goes a long way and I’ll be coming here from now on when I need a morning coffee or snack!

Hooray for kolaches in Manhattan! I’m from houston so will be a tough judge — the fruity kolaches are the clear standout here. The Texas sausage one was pretty good but was disappointed in the bacon egg and cheese, which was almost entirely breading (tasty though!) and very little of the actual contents.
