We recently celebrated Mother’s Day brunch at Brooklyn Winery, and while there were some lovely aspects, the overall experience fell short of expectations.
First, the ambiance was absolutely beautiful, and the atmosphere was enhanced by a charming jazz band. The staff was pleasant, and the thoughtful touches—like the kids’ card-making station and the photo booth—made the event feel special.
However, the service was a major disappointment. Despite the pre-fixe menu and timed reservations, the food service was extremely slow, with no clear reason why some tables received their meals much faster than ours. Additionally, the wine pairings, which were advertised at $35 per person, caused confusion. At first, we were told there were no pairings available, only to later learn we could choose one wine per course. Even when we ordered wine flights, it took around 30 minutes to receive them—an odd delay, especially considering we all ordered the same wines. Going to a winery and struggling to get wine felt frustrating.
Our waiter rarely checked in, and we sat for about an hour before being asked if we needed anything else. The food itself was decent but served in small portions, especially considering the family-style setup for a group of five.
While the setting and concept were great, the slow service and lack of coordination made the experience fall short. Had this been a last-minute plan, it might have felt adequate, but given the advertised experience and our expectations, it was underwhelming.
