The Best Restaurants & Bars In Rockaway Beach & Jacob Riis Park - New York - The Infatuation

"Brothers Rockaway shares a kitchen with Caracas Arepa, but you should never choose between the two. Grab drinks and arepas from Caracas, and then pop around the corner to Brothers for an open-faced kimchi grilled cheese, or a smoothie made with mango, cashew, and basil. It’s a good beach choice for the vegan in your group, or for someone who would like to imagine they’re at an eco beach club off the coast of Bali, rather than on the New York City shores." - willa moore, molly fitzpatrick, neha talreja

Brothers Rockaway - Review - Rockaway Beach - New York - The Infatuation

"For just a little window on the boardwalk, Brothers has a lot of personality. There’s a painting with butterflies and fried eggs, dolphin-shaped vases next to where you order, and a sign that reads, “breakfast is now!” The food differs from your classic boardwalk burger and fries. Think compelling salads, and a crackly, open-faced kimchi grilled cheese. Also, smoothies—very intricate smoothies. Bring someone vegan here, or a person who would like to imagine they’re at an eco beach club off the coast of Bali, rather than on the New York City shores. Brothers Rockaway shares a kitchen with Caracas Arepa, but instead of choosing between the two, hit both at once. Grab drinks and arepas from Caracas, and then pop around the corner, pick up that kimchi grilled cheese or a green salad, and snag a picnic table before admiring your spread. photo credit: Willa Moore Food Rundown Mango, Cashew, Basil Smoothie A thick, not-too-sweet concoction with lots of torn-up basil leaves inside. Every sip comes with a hit of herby flavor. Muffin Made fresh daily, these muffins are moist, simple, and always a good choice. Don’t let your mind play muffins-are-boring tricks on you. Kimchi Grilled Cheese An open-faced situation with toasty cheddar, tangy kimchi, and an artful scallion sprinkle. Green Salad There’s always some sort of green salad available, which is a nice option if it's way too hot for a nearby Rippers burger. On a recent visit, we ate little gems with pickled asparagus and a tahini-ramp dressing." - Willa Moore

Rippers, Brothers, and More of the Rockaways’ Seaside Fare | The New Yorker

"If I were renting a houseboat on Jamaica Bay, I’d ride my bike at breakfast to Brothers on the boardwalk at Beach 106th Street for a scrambled egg tucked with pesto, Cheddar, and radish microgreens into an English muffin and a frothy Get Up and Catch It smoothie made with peach, coconut water, lavender, and banana ($3-$12); the spot feels purposeful and mindful, with the words “Be patient / with us / with each other / with yourselves” scrawled on Plexiglas and “BLACK TRANS LIVES MATTER” written on the wooden counter below." - Hannah Goldfield

Great breakfast place that goes for high quality and high execution of good fundamental foods. Pictured is the egg sandwich which has two critical components. First, the pesto provides the herbiness and sharpness that makes the sandwich more than an egg sandwich. Second, the egg is silky smooth with no dry parts. Silky smooth egg makes an egg sandwich better always. I was also a fan of the variant of their Engilsh muffin. Sourdough is a bit denser than a regular English muffin but more importantly sourdough is easier to chew off. As a result, the sandwich is easier to eat while also being super-tasty. Not pictured is the blueberry muffin, which was lighter than other muffins and thus more fun to eat. Love the vibe, love that egg sandwich, would go back often.

There’s cozy, there’s chill, and then there’s Brothers Café in Far Rockaway, where the ocean breeze shows up right on cue and your breakfast comes with a side of “wow, why didn’t I discover this sooner?” Let’s talk food Started with their sourdough english muffin, loaded with egg, pesto, and melted cheddar. That pastry had crunch, chew, and flavor that felt like someone actually cared. The egg was cooked just right, soft but substantial, with the pesto giving everything a garden-fresh lift and the cheddar pulling it all together like a culinary best man at a breakfast wedding. Then there was the lemon coconut cake, vegan and proud of it. No weird textures, no compromise. It was bright, zesty, and tropical in the “wait… is this what vacation tastes like?” kind of way. Airy crumb, mellow sweetness, and a lemony finish that lingered just enough to tempt another slice (I didn’t, but let’s be honest… I thought about it). Coffee was solid. Nothing pretentious, just smooth and satisfying. Great sips, great view, and great little recyclable paper cup that somehow made everything taste better. Bonus points: this was my 20-mile pit stop on a long bike ride, which made everything taste about 300% better. When you’ve been chasing pavement for hours, finding a spot like this feels downright cinematic, like someone cued the breeze and plated the pastry just for you. Oh, and the location? Unbeatable. You’ve got sand and sky practically hugging you from the boardwalk. Whether you’re post-swim, pre-stroll, or just hiding from your inbox, this café knows how to deliver comfort without the fluff. —————————- I returned to Brothers Cafe with an open mind and a hungry heart. Turns out, the kitchen had a few surprises up its sleeve. The fish toast was excellent. A generous layer of fresh flaky fluke, lightly seasoned and grilled to perfection, sat atop a thick-cut slice of bread with a crisp edge and soft center. The tangy house aioli added just enough brightness to make each bite feel like a seaside brunch moment. Then came the kimchi fried cheese. Great is an understatement. Imagine gooey, melted cheese with a golden crust, wrapped around spicy, fermented kimchi that hits all the right notes, funky, fiery, and deeply satisfying. It’s the kind of dish that makes you pause mid-bite and reevaluate your life choices, preferably while reaching for another bite. Don’t forget to heavily use the Sunset sauce. On everything!
