"It’s tough to beat Brotzeit Lokal’s waterfront beer garden, set right along the Oakland-Alameda Estuary. The star of the menu is a selection of sausages, but there are other German classics, plus 20 beers on draft and dozens more in bottles. Bonus: It’s kid- and dog-friendly." - Eater Staff

"Open for years, tucked away and on the water; the name translates, to “bread-time” and the menu offers Bavarian fare with an emphasis on quality. Sausages are made from scratch at an offsite kitchen and the pretzels are from a local bakery. The impressive beer program focuses on small German and Austrian family breweries, monastery microbrews plus a few additional local options." - The MICHELIN Guide

This beer garden has a great view of Brooklyn Basin and the channel between Oakland and Alameda. And they have a wonderful beer, cider, and cocktail selection with excellent sausages (the duck sausage was a-may-zing!) and great desserts. Our dining companions were less enthused about the schnitzel, and the potato dumplings were not very flavorful. But the pretzels are good and there is plenty to enjoy on the menu along with the view and drinks. I won't let so long go between visits next time...

It's a German bar and restaurant at the Port of Oakland. Location is great for wandering around and walking at the port. Good variety of beers, sausages and schnitzel. Given the atmosphere as a casual spot it's an expensive place. Indoor and outdoor seating. Quick responsive service. Good for small groups, meetup and couples. Parking lot attached with limited spaces but still possible. Outdoor is easily accessible. Veggie options available. Ask for seasonal sausage and try venison for sure.

Tasty German food on the water. All the ingredients were fresh, I think they make the sauerkraut in house. My only nitpick is that I really like bread, and would have preferred more with the veal plate. Good, fast service. If you're craving some German meats, you can't go wrong here.

So, getting there was a bit of an adventure. My husband took a random turn into a ~hotel parking lot, and for a sec, I was like, “Uh, no thanks!” 😂 But he kept driving, and suddenly we hit the waterfront and I saw a restaurant and things made more sense! The place is tucked away in such a peaceful spot with boats docked nearby - amazing views, dog friendly and so worth it! Now, onto the food.. we went big with the sausage platter: Brats: • Weisswurst - My favorite! Mild and creamy, with veal, pork, egg, and herbs. • Smoked Duck & Cheddar - One of the specials; smoky a bit spicy but so juicy and good! • Spicy Venison - My husband’s favorite! A little kick, also smokey and super flavorful. Sides: • Spätzle - Soft, buttery German noodles. • Sauerkraut with bacon - Tangy, with that perfect hint of smokiness. • Spicy horseradish mustard - I dipped everything in it!! • Potato Dumplings & Gravy • Bretzel - Because duh.. 🥨 • Oh! And braised red cabbage of course! On top of that, the staff was incredible. Super attentive, friendly, and ready to share suggestions. Brotzeit Lokal has awesome food, laid-back vibes, and a view that’s just hard to beat. Can’t wait to go back!

Brotzeit Lokal is an amazing restaurant with authentic German food! They hand make their sausages, sauerkraut, spätzle, and more daily. The view is amazing overlooking the water. They have a dozen + beers on tap with many more in bottles from around the world. They have indoor and outdoor seating and allow all pets in their outdoor seating. The restaurant is always clean and tidy. The employees provide excellent customer service. Highly recommended
