The 13 Best Banh Mi Sandwiches In Austin - Austin - The Infatuation

"After spending a few years hopping around the Austin area in a little red food trailer, B’s Kitchen eventually settled down with a permanent space on Anderson Mill Road. The meats here get tossed in a sweet and savory sauce before hitting the grill, resulting in great crispy edges on thick cuts of pork belly, pork shoulder, and chicken—but that doesn’t mean the classic cold-cut version is any less deserving of your attention. There’s also a housemade chili sauce that packs a little heat and some extra roasted flavor that you’ll want to slather all over your sandwich." - nicolai mccrary, raphael brion

Delicious wood-fired pizza and Italian dishes with a local twist—highly recommend! We had a fantastic meal here while staying in Princeville. The vibe is casual and welcoming, but the food is way above average—everything feels homemade and thoughtfully done. Started with the fried calamari, which was prepared more like a chicken cutlet—lightly breaded, crispy, and honestly one of the most creative takes on calamari I’ve had. The fresh garlic bread is exactly what you want it to be—crispy edges, soft middle, and packed with flavor of fresh garlic and herbs, straight out of the wood fired oven. For mains, we shared a few dishes: Pulled pork + pineapple pizza from the wood-fired oven—Hawaiian-inspired and super tasty. Crust was spot on. This was a daily special. Pesto gnocchi and rigatoni bolognese — both were rich, fresh, and comforting without being too heavy. The pesto gnocchi The lasagna was layered perfectly and felt like something you'd get at a family-run spot in Italy. Also tried the catch of the day sandwich (ours was sword fish) and it was fresh, simple, and really good. Cocktails were great too—well balanced and refreshing, not overly sweet. The server recommended an Italian mango soda with whipped cream - so good and unique! Service was friendly, and you could tell the staff cared about the food and the experience. Definitely a spot we'd come back to!

On tsunami evening(which thankfully ended up being nothing), B's was gracious enough to still open their doors when a lot of the island was closing or closed...even foodland was closed. We had a family of 6 and were very grateful they were open. Staff was great and seemed happy to take care of everyone. It really showed aloha spirit and put a stressful situation at ease. Drinks were great, food was good. Pizzas are yummy although keep in mind they charge for each topping ;)

Google
So Good! Just a perfect little gem! The bartender Stephanie made us a special drink based on our likes and it was delicious! Beautiful atmosphere and bar or table seating. Loved watching the pizza chef in the open kitchen. Do recommend if you're in the area.

Google
I don't typically leave reviews anymore, but I had to help correct injustice of the 3.8 stars at time of writing. it's been the best non-hawaiian based place we've visited during our trip. Amazing personal craft pizza, perfect fries, good drinks, lovely interior, and our waitress Harper was super fun to talk to. She even recommended some excellent things to do that we had given up trying to find personally.

Google
Fantastic experience! The food was amazing! We had the catch of the day (Mahi-mahi) and the spaghetti pomodoro. Both were exceptional! Best Italian food we have had in a long time! The garlic bread and meatball appetizer are also a must have. The service was attentive and they had lovely holiday ambiance this week. Highly recommend this place if you are visiting the north end. We were so very excited to have found this place. We will be back to try more delicious food.

Google
We read reviews and were a litte skeptical. Natalie was our server who was absolutely fantastic. Attentive, so sweet, great recommendations, top notch. I had rigatoni bolognese, son had kids pizza, wife had salad with Ono. All were delicious! Tropical Mule and Mai Tai had great flavors. B’s did not disappoint us tonight (except no longer have Tiramisu :(). Looking forward to coming back before we leave.

Google
We started with a nice IPA and some very good sangria. Then had the caprese salad which was great, and designed our own craft pizzas. Pizzas were cooked perfectly and the crust was soft but held up like it should. After, a generous portion of yummy coconut/caramel gelato. The kitchen and wait staff were very busy. Maybe otherwise, other times we wouldn't be left waiting as long as we were. Not too long, but there is room foe improvement.

Google
This place was fantastic. Truly no complaints, and I have four picky eaters in my family. They did not accept reservations but it wasn't busy, so no issues there. You can always pop into one of the area gift shops while waiting if necessary.

Yelp
Very surprised by the restaurant on the inside and ambience. Was impressed. Server was friendly, food was pretty good... fish sandwich was average, rigatoni was delicious, pizza was good.... Overall a good experience

Yelp
Excellent service from Allistar at the bar, and Cherie following up with me to get my credit card back to me while I traveled the islands. Food was delicious, and ambiance too notch! Nice work to the B's Kitchen!

Yelp
I love B's Kitchen and have from the first time I visited. I don't know what is with the bad reviews. I have always had excellent service, excellent food. Everyone is so friendly. I look forward to going there every time. Their Caesar salad is the best I've had on the island. My husband said he really loves the pizza. I love their steak and fries as well. Everything is just delightful. Recently they changed their menu to make it more mainstream . My favorites were still on the menu so no problem there for me. We come to Princeville every year for over 17 years. I don't recall when B 's first opened. But I was thrilled as the restaurant previously at this location I did not care for. I recommend this restaurant highly. The food is great and the atmosphere is charming.

Yelp
The food was okay, but the menu is waaayyy overpriced for what you get. I'm not going to trash them though, the service was decent, we just won't be back. There are much better options to spend your money on than this place. It also took an hour to get our order, not something we appreciated with kids.
google avatar

Georgia M.

Yelp
Great drinks and pizza! You gotta try their Macadamia Mai Tai, absolutely delicious! We ordered calamari and the BBQ chicken pizza (it did not disappoint). Great place, would come back.

Yelp
If you go: make a reservation, don't plan to arrive early and get a drink at the bar on a busy night, keep your fingers crossed that you get Natalie as your server. This past Sunday night was packed at B's and luckily we had a reservation. We arrived about 20 minutes early and the hostess agreed that getting a drink at the bar before our table was ready would be good. At the bar,we waited several minutes to be greeted. We could tell things were busy so we didn't mind. When the bartender finally came our way, I made the mistake(?) of saying that we were just getting a drink before our table was ready. That yielded many rude comments during our time at the bar. We tried to order easy drinks and agreed for our check right away to help her out, but unfortunately she didn't see it that way. I understand things get busy. I understand that customers wanting more than one drink are ideal. But neither is an excuse for rude comments. Once we got to our table, we had a lovely evening. Natalie was the best server we could ask for. We had the calamari, a (not-so) little gem salad, beef cheeks for him and pesto & burrata for me. I would've liked a little spice in my dish, but other than that everything was delicious. Including the sticky toffee bundle cake dessert.

Yelp
B's Kitchen was a pleasant surprise during our last visit in July. As it was in very close proximity to where we were staying, we ended up here after a day of beach hopping and exploring the island. At first we thought maybe we were just really hungry, but by the end of the meal after having the tiramisu that was made at the table, we concluded the food was really that good. So good that we almost went back the next day but we had a full list of restaurants to visit so we ended up not making it back. That being said, this will be a spot for us to visit for every Kauai trip. Service was friendly and efficient, the restaurant has a really relaxing vibe with lots of open space and cute decor. Pros: Delicious pizza and desserts, friendly staff, cozy setting Cons: N/A
google avatar

Mark W.

Yelp
Loved the vibes and the pizzaioli is very talented some great pies coming out had a great night with the family!

Yelp
What went well: The food and drinks were pretty delicious. What didn't: It took 20 minutes to get served water. It took 35 minutes until we ordered. The waiter gave us the wrong drink and then insisted we keep it after telling me that a martini and margarita are basically the same drink. We waited 90 minutes until we got our food (the restaurant wasn't slammed) All the tables near us were also disgruntled. We asked to order multiple times and were told to hold on. Every "hold on," felt like another 30 minutes. Cute place! Won't be back.

Yelp
The size of a small airplane hangar, this expansive Italian themed restaurant is decorated with wood, shiny surfaces and floor space. FCFS Resv. But apparently they take birthday parties. It's a great large space for an art gallery, although once an 8-top gets a few cocktails you'll need to shout to converse. The bar is center stage although the large open kitchen line also has counter seating to watch cooks do their magic or their fingers. Interesting Vintage Italian movie poster reproductions and decor placement. The service was stellar and products came out fast, but I mentally repositioned all posters while waiting for our meal. Looks like the trend of larger menus has been adjusted due to lack of skilled labor and housing. The menu, cocktails and wine list were recently revamped, so the fried calamari, wings and mozzarella sticks are out but prices increased. Pizza is their mainstay. We ordered mushroom with truffle seasoning of which there was a scant hint. I feel it needed a pinch of salt and crispier crust from the massive gas pizza oven. Their Roasted Beet Salad had a few bits of beet, nuts and Gorgonzola cheese and the tariff was questionable. Ahi Crudo was similar in the 5 slices of fish were a day old. I didn't stumble across any Marcona Almonds, but the dressing had a good viscosity sans the evidence of Sherry. Our partners had the Ribeye and Mahi which looked and tasted great. We shared the Ice Cream Brownie that was pretty awesome. Since they're one of many restaurants in pricy Princeville they may not be concerned about competition. However, If they could keep everything that simple and consistent (like that great efficient blond ponytailed server) they'll get more frequent/repeat business from us.

Yelp
Long wait for a table on a Monday night, even though it didn't seem especially busy. Service was very friendly and welcoming but a bit slow. Prices were quite high for the caliber of courses. Caesar salad was just so so. Pizza was decent but a little bit doughy for me. Portion sizes were reasonable but I still left there hungry.
google avatar

Gaby H.

Yelp
Had dinner at B's Kitchen. We ordered the pesto gnocchi, kid's butter pasta and the burger. Portions were huge, and had to get boxes for leftovers. Our server and the host were very attentive, checking in on us frequently.

Yelp
Excellent pizza! Spicy margarita and fish sandwich are fabulous. Would highly recommend this place if you're in Princeville.

Yelp
This is a photo update to my last review. Great place for a date night...even if that date is yourself!! Pack your patience, and grab a bottle of wine. Service is friendly but can sometimes be slow..this is a good time to remember you are on island time

Arron S.

Yelp
Oh my! Absolutely superb food and the service is phenomenal! Our server, Harper, was just incredibly wonderful. I swear, resautant managers and owners from our hometown need to visit Princeville to learn what makes an incredible dining experience.
google avatar

Yelp
Tomatoes salad very fresh, crunch and soft calamari but very small portion. The fish was so good with white beans very good combination and crunchy cauliflower, I enjoyed so much. I like the way they're presented the tiramisu, love to watched. All the foods we ordered very good.
google avatar

Alicia S.

Yelp
The food was delicious! Ordered the pizza along with many other things and everything tasted like it was fresh. Natalie, catered to our family and was so sweet while consistently topping off all of our waters. We had multiple little ones with us and they all just catered to us making sure we were all comfortable. It was a cozy simple atmosphere and I would totally come back.

Yelp
B's is only open 5-9 pm and simply can't get their act together. I understand staffing in Hanalei is tough - rents are high and there is a labor shortage. But dang.... Tonight was another disappointment. Poor service, manic staff, bartender hurls empties in the garbage, no olives for martinis, forgotten order, undercooked pizza sat under a heat lamp for 20 minutes, caesar salad appetizer arrived after the pizza and was warm with mushy stale croutons. Sitting at the chaotic bar was reminiscent working the scullery of a Navy ship. A promised comp for the salad was actually just a 10 percent "finds and family" discount. Wow. And we didn't even ask for a comp. B's needs to train their staff and get a qualified manager on site as well as a runner to keep food moving from the kitchen to the tables when the wait staff are busy.

Yelp
So disappointed in the decline of the quality of food. As a long time Princeville resident I've eaten here many times and seen the many menu changes they have gone through. The current menu is the worst yet. Building your own pizza, ( I miss a few of the past craft pizza selections) . I've tried several different items and each time has been a huge disappointment. I keep trying as I enjoy the location and ambiance here. Last night I ordered the fettuccine chicken Alfredo. The chicken breast tasted like it had been previously cooked and was not warm. ( it would have been nice if it had been sliced , it was whole) The pasta was warm but was sticky with very little sauce. The server offered to bring me extra sauce which was not even lukewarm. He offered to warm it up but " no thanks to microwaving it " Just very disappointing every time I try eating here and very disappointed in the current menu. I can appreciate they are trying to lower their prices here, but it's too bad the quality of the food reflects it.

Yelp
Nice ambiance with modern interior and spacious seating. The restaurant itself seemed incredibly over staffed. Our cocktails took almost 20 minutes to be served after we ordered them, which was perplexing given the amount of staff around and behind the bar (it was not a busy night). My burger was very thin, and lacked any true flavor. The pizza was delicious and had a great meat to cheese ratio. We have a party of 6 with no true standout dish.
google avatar

Jessica H.

Yelp
Ate here two years ago and had a much better experience than two days ago. Server was snarky/rude. He scoffed when we asked for extra Parmesan on the rigatoni. He pointed out there was already cheese on it. Dude you're in the wrong industry and restaurant genre if extra parm isn't your jam. The rigatoni was watery and had barely any "bolognese" on it. I asked for a gem salad. Was given a Caesar. They don't have a basic pepperoni (which is the only topping my boys like). Very odd to not have that: Decor is nice. But not enough to want to return. shame because we loved the food and server two years ago.
google avatar

Erin L.

Yelp
The pizza and pasta are good enough if you're really hungry. The kids' cheese pizza is so bad that it is basically inedible. The service is absolutely terrible. I cannot believe that the owners allow the subpar service to continue. We both dined in and took food out because the options are limited in Princeville. We stay in the area for a few months over the course of the year, but we will never eat here again. I hate posting bad reviews, but maybe someone at the restaurant will read this and improve the experience.
google avatar

Kerry L.

Yelp
This place is disgusting and a disgrace to such a beautiful location and building. The ONLY reason anyone walks through the door and patronizes this establishment is due to the location and limited restaurants in Princeville. I've had better pizza at the gas station. It was barely edible and had no cheese. The crust is gross. The mozzarella sticks were only half cooked. The calamari had no flavor. Service was very slow and she barely came to our table. We left thirsty because we never got refills. We were never offered parm cheese. Owners and management should be ashamed of themselves. Take that menu and subpar food anywhere there is competition and you'll be closed in a month. $70 wasted. Felt sick afterwards too.
google avatar

Evelyn K.

Yelp
Service was a little slow! The food was okay , I do think for the price it could've been a lot better l.

Yelp
The food was delicious. So savory and didn't take long. We arrived right when they opened (530p) and were seated and eating right away. The service was awesome. We were pleased with everything that we went back the next day. Tons of parking and a great music selection also. If you're in the area and would like a nice affordable meal, stop here

renz d.

Yelp
Let me start by saying that the server and the host was very nice and very welcoming. However, the food was horrible. Ordered the calamari for starters it was so hard literally hurt my gums, we ordered pizza it was under cooked you can taste the dough and it was also had a bland taste, ordered the salad caprese same thing very bland. The burger was ok. Ambience was bad because the workers in the kitchen throwing boxes around making loud noise as if no one Was eating around the restaurant. Overall they're gonna need some improvement in the kitchen and consistency I go to a lot of restaurants and this place has horrible food and it's over priced.
google avatar

Pauline B.

Yelp
The salad was nothing but lettuce and a tasteless dressing. The pasta Bolognese was mushy and again tasteless. I had the sausage pizza and I've had better pizza at Costco. Service could have been better. Maybe we caught them on an off night.
google avatar

Betsy S.

Yelp
We had a good meal at B's. Nice building and friendly staff. It wasn't crowded which was nice since we didn't have a reservation. I had a margarita pizza and hubby had a bucatini bolognese. We shared a Kauai Greens salad which was super fresh with yummy croutons! We both agreed the pizza was outstanding with perfect crust. Hubby liked his pasta, but said it lacked flavor which explains the 1 star demerit. Overall, we left happy and would definitely go back another time.
google avatar

Greg H.

Yelp
Been here on the island and this was probably the best meal so far. All of the ingredients were fresh, the food was well prepared and the service was amazing. We had the table closest to the kitchen and got to see all of the food up close. We had the fried mozzarella as an appetizer, caprese salad and the pesto shrimp pasta. The servings were plentiful and very well plated. I feel the price to value was good. It is slightly higher than most places but the attention to detail and food quality made it worth it.
google avatar

Sierra M.

Yelp
This place.. is SO GOOD! We were quoted 30 minutes for a table on a busy Saturday night- and we were seated right on time. Every single dish was ordered was amazing, and came out really quickly even though the restaurant seemed very busy. I can't even narrow down which entree was my favorite.. the Italian pizza was a good ole classic, the goddess was light and refreshing with all of the veggies & arugula and goat cheese, and the shrimp pesto pasta.. heavenly. The shrimp were huge, cooked perfectly and the pasta was cooked exactly to my liking! Will most definitely return to try the other menu items next time!
google avatar

Jennifer D.

Yelp
The mushroom pizza with added Italian sausage was amazing! And don't forget to try the Pessimistic red blend. So yummy! Beautiful restaurant and friendly staff!
google avatar

Chtoosha P.

Yelp
Went to this place today and tomorrow! The best pizza we ever eat. We took mushroom one and with Italian sausages. We also took salads - they were amazing! Very friendly staff. Everything is kids friendly as well. Both my girls are picky eaters but they finished kids cheese pizzas in 10 mins. We would love to come back here!
google avatar

Stephanie S.

Yelp
Visiting Kauai for just three days doesn't allow much food exploration time but we happened upon this restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The food was delish, service excellent, and ambiance relaxing. Couldn't have stumbled on a nicer place!
google avatar

Daman T.

Yelp
We tried the goddess pizza and margarita pizza, in personal size. The quality and quantity were both good. The place is pretty spacious with nice ambiance and music. The only downside was lack of good drink options for non-alcoholic guests.
google avatar

Britney C.

Yelp
Location- easy to get to/plenty of parking. Food- tried the pizzas (mushroom & green goddess) and they were really yummy. Drinks- bartender knew what he was doing. Our drinks were great. Disappointed we didn't end up with a table. We stopped into B's shortly after they opened for dinner. Told 10 minute wait for table- no problem. We sat at the bar while we waiting for a table except 20 minutes went by and we had been completely forgotten about. Other guests were being seated and some were receiving their take out food they ordered but we were never given a table and ended up ordering food at the bar. I still gave 5 stars because as annoying as it was not to get a table you need to remember that most people run on island time. In the end it was still a good meal.
google avatar

Nyla K.

Yelp
We roamed around the area and decided on this place which was about a 30 min wait for a table for four. We got sat by the door which was away from everyone else but was very close to the waiting area. It was a bit later so there wasn't a ton of people waiting. We ordered beers at the bar, apparently there were no local lagers but the cream ale was definitely a later. 4/5 - Caprese salad - great presentation and tasted good, it also had a pesto dipping sauce, really enjoyed this 2/5 - Pepperoni pizza - pretty standard, but was a bit undercooked in the middle 3/5 - Italian sausage pizza - came out burnt but they 1/5 Beyond meat burger- very dry and not good, the fries saved this dish, which were nice and crispy 4/5 - Pasta with vodka sauce and chicken - the best main dish we had Service was a bit slow as we had to ask for water since it was clear they weren't gonna offer us any, but they were also quite busy.

Fawad M.

Yelp
We dined here on our trip to Kauai last nite, food was basic, boring and drinks were poorly made ! Despite waiting for a quite a while to get the food they got our food order wrong, our waitress did not apologize and was abrupt and did not share any details about the menu either while ordering food!Don't be fooled by the pretty Chandeliers and or the ambiance as the service and food will not live up to it. It is not at all 'A' grade food but strictly 'B' ! Wont be dining here again.

AB R.

Yelp
Pizza is amazing! We ordered pepperoni and jalapeño pizza, as well as a pepperoni one! The dough and sauce were tasty! Caesar salad was delicious! Daniel the waiter could have been a little friendlier but overall good service. First time here, if we visit again will definately come back!
google avatar

Chance A.

Yelp
Terrible service. Waited 30 minutes before our server even paid attention to us. The food was okay. Diet Coke was not good. Server said he'd remove from bill and didn't. Appetizer showed up 20 minutes after we got our food and was nothing special. I would definitely avoid going to B's.

Brad J.

Yelp
Fantastic experience! The food was amazing. We had the Catch of the day special and the pasta primavera. Both were exceptional! Best italian food we have had in a long time! The garlic bread and meatball appetizer are also a must have. The service was fantastic as was the holiday ambiance. Highly recommend this place if you are visiting the north end.

Veronica P.

Yelp
We really enjoyed B's. Visited for dinner while staying at the nearby Westin Princeville. Our original plan was to eat at our hotel as the option nearby are scarce but after a bad experience trying to get a table we decided last minute to try B's and I'm so glad we did. From the moment we walked in the service was phenomenal. Very cute dinning room, good place to go with groups. The food was delicious, we all loved our plates, and their brick oven pizza was SO good. Prices were very in line with what everything costs in Kauai, I found it to be fair for what your getting. You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

George P.

Yelp
Pick up service is terrible. Host/owner has no care for an overpriced pickup order (forced 20% surcharge). After arriving on time only to wait 30 mins longer with no care. The restaurant was not busy and the owner/host prioritized seating people over anything else. If take out is an issue just don't offer it if it will result in terrible customer service and hiked pricing that doesn't even cover any additional costs. Food was mediocre and overpriced. Support other legitimate local businesses, as this one seems to just take advantage of inflating the prices to support a toxic business habits and poor service that reflects in the quality of food. Food: average Price: terrible Service: terrible Would not recommend unless you care for unfriendly service and overpriced "Italian" food.

Zela D.

Yelp
This food was perfect after a long day in the sun. As a fellow gluten free girl the gf pizza was incredible!! Super authentic and good ingredients! I had the best passion fruit mule I've ever had. Lighting and vibe and service was great. Will be back for sure.
google avatar

Cathy C.

Yelp
Overpriced, even for Kauai. I don't mind paying $$$ for high-quality, tasty food but damn this was expensive for what we got. The seafood pasta was especially egregious in its price gouging. Almost $50 for a tiny portion of pasta with the tiniest lobster tail and baby scoop of caviar. I didn't taste the uni. We won't be back.
google avatar

Dana R.

Yelp
We have loved this place for years. Hadn't been for a while and apparently the menu changed recently. And it is as gorgeous as ever. The food is insanely fresh, the people absolutely beautiful. Easily the best on the island.

christina g.

Yelp
Food was great, service is very slow server not friendly never once asked if we wanted drink refills but n cor. Feel like we are forgotten about. Waited to get boxes and check for 10 mins

Yelp
Gad dinner here last night with my husband We arrived at 6pm Hostess was the sweetest She sat us where I wanted to sit as the restaurant wasn't too packed yet My husband ordered a mango lemonade so yummy and refreshing We also got the pizza , fries and vodka pasta everything was hot & fresh and delicious Highly recommended making the drive to Princeville They are only open for dinner at 5:30 keep that in mind :)

Yelp
I came in with a party of five and received some of the best service of my life. The place looked nice and clean and the food was delicious.
google avatar

Teresa Z.

Yelp
Restaurant has great potential, just underperforms. We did not look at reviews before going & wish we would have. There are many 1 stars for a reason. PLEASE read the other reviews before going here. TLDR: Not worth the money- prices too high, food was eh & service was less than eh. There were 4 of us. We were not overly hungry & each couple split a pasta dish. Waitress warned us that portions were truly made for one person, which we were fine with, as none of us were overly hungry. However, with a $34 bowl of PASTA, there was no type of bread offered nor was there a salad -even to order as an add on with an entree (& we were not spending another $24 for a salad!). Mind you, there is house-made pizza on the menu, so breadsticks should be an option. Pasta dishes (Bolognese and Penne w/vodka sauce) were warm at best when arriving, and as the waitress said, were a one-person meal (again, we were fine with that). There was no follow up during the meal until we were almost finished & the one drink we asked for a refill on never arrived. We are not sure if this was due to just the poor setup of the restaurant or if they are trying to create an "exclusive" high-end type of dining service. If they are trying to create a high end service, then they need to up their service. Our waitress was decent, but she had ALL the tables (again, poor planning on Managements part). We were also not able to get the bill split up for the two couples (total order was 2 entrees - 1 for each couple- and two non-alcoholic drinks & 1 glass of wine- so easy to be split- but the best they could do was split the bill in half). My guess is the waitress did not have the time to do it. So if you're looking to have the bill split you may want to make that known immediately when sitting down. The best part about this place was the ambience & music. We really wanted to enjoy it so we could return but that will not happen. We understand that prices are high on the island, but few options & underperforming service is not acceptable.
