18 Best Myrtle Beach Restaurants to Try | Eater Carolinas

"Reminiscent of an industrial bait and tackle shop, the Bubba’s Fish Camp building is situated on the outskirts of Myrtle Beach, where you can smell the smoked meats wafting in the air from its 750-pound Cookshack Fast Eddy’s smoker nicknamed Sally. A good sampling is the pit boss platter piled with smoked pulled pork, pork sausage, quarter chicken, and baby pork back ribs, plus sides of crinkle fries, coleslaw, hush puppies, and brown baked beans." - Ashley Daniels

The food and service was exceptional when we went to eat here. John-Paul who took care of us was excellent. He made sure we had everything we needed, continually checked in on us, and made sure our cups were never empty, even when he had several tables to take care of. We really enjoyed the food. We had the brisket fries as an appetizer and then I had the rib plate with fries and coleslaw while my fiancée had the brisket burger as our entrees for lunch. We are definitely going again. The smokey flavors is exactly what we wanted and with fall off the bone ribs, you can't go wrong.

Wish I would have taken a photo of my main course, but it looked so good I dug into it right away. Waitress seemed a little new as she did not keep up with refills well, or keep track of who ordered what. Always had to ask when she came back. She was very friendly though and easy to work with. This place combines two amazing things. Seafood and smokehouse. Just wish the shirts they have for sale said Myrtle Beach on them. I would have bought one if it had.

Google
We had about a 30-minute wait around 8 PM, mostly because there weren’t enough waiters to cover all the tables. Fortunately, we were able to sit at the bar and got served right away. The bartenders were really friendly and attentive, which made the experience start on a good note. As for the food: • The ribs were the standout—tender, smoky, and even better than the brisket. • The mac & cheese was disappointing—pretty flavorless. • I miss the crinkle-cut fries they used to serve. • The baked beans were interesting, but I actually liked them a lot and would get them again. • The hushpuppies were great—crispy and full of flavor. Overall, aside from the mac & cheese, the food was solid and full of smoky flavor.

Google
The restaurant is pretty clean and up to code. I love the rustic beach aesthetic throughout the restaurant. Customer service was great. The food was very tasty and the serving sizes are pretty good for the price you pay. Lots of great options to choose from.

Google
Food service was slow but our server was attentive and friendly. The food was not good. My husband had fried flounder which was okay, the hush puppies were dry and hard like someone reheated them a few times, the entire shrimp skewer plate tasted weird, the crab cake was not good, and my son said the French fries were nasty. Outside of the food the place has a nice vibe and they had live music which was good.

Every time I come to Myrtle Beach, I always go to another well-known restaurant for crabs. But this time I decided to try this one I give them five stars for the atmosphere.. the decorations in this restaurant are outstanding! My husband and I sat and just looked all around at all at fabulous intricate details that went into decorating the restaurant. it was clean. It was neat. Our waiter was friendly and our food was good. I will return.

Google
The food is amazing and the service is even better! The highly recommend the brisket grilled cheese, the fried flounder sandwich and the peach cobbler! Our server Jordan was really attentive and went above and beyond! He gave great recommendations and was super fast.

Google
Octavia was pretty cool. The food was delicious. Got very full. For all that we got it was well worth the wait & the price we paid.

Yelp
Great food and excellent service! I had the peel and eat shrimp and husband had the ribs. The portions are large and very tasty overall. The regular fries were very good!

Yelp
Arrived at 1:30 on a Monday. Seating was immediate. The host was our waiter for drinks. The interior is a large open space with a large bar in the corner. Large capacity. Ordered a cup of clam chowder and the crab sandwich. The soups has very good reviews, couldn't pass It up. The soup came quickly and was kitchen hot. The crabcake was also served quickly (1/2 beer gone) and was veery good. The bill for two with a beer and a cocktail was $53, an average value

Yelp
First off we went for dinner and we had gift vouchers..both of us had the flounder platters that were WONDERFUL! Then we figured we would use up the rest and take home dinner for next night so we ordered the $40 "Pit Boss" dinner to share that came with fries, hush puppies, beans, coleslaw, ribs, smoked sausage, a chicken quarter, chopped brisket, pulled pork and sauces.. WELL we were so so disappointed in what was in the containers! Are you kidding?? Look at what we got.. Meat dish I added the 3 hush puppies I had left from my meal but that is all the meat? One sausage 4 small ribs, dried out skimpy chicken and dry tiny brisket? Oh and they never gave pulled pork!!Then the fries lol the ones in a straight row again is all we got, the others were our leftovers too.. but the best is the coleslaw and beans for a taste not a side and beans had no lid Our waitress Nicole was awesome and as you see our dinner that we ate in was great.. take out? That's something I would be ashamed to send home with my customers, sorry‍

Yelp
Early Bird dinner tonight. Sat at the bar and Chris was working and took great care of us. Grabbed a rack of ribs, pulled pork specials and a few drinks. Everything was delicious. Tonight I saw the smoker being loaded up with brisket and learned the brisket cooks for 17 - 22 hours. (Just outstanding).

Yelp
We were immediately sat at the restaurant and contact was made with us by our wonderful waitress. She was very cordial and had just enough personality to keep us interested. As we peruse the menu everyone found something that they were excited to get. Everything was very delicious and my only complaint was it was a little pricey. The service was good and the place was decorated appropriately for the name. Next time I win the lottery I'll be back lol.

Yelp
The Onion rings are 5/5! Mac n cheese was bland. Seafood was all delicious. Brisket tacos were excellent. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was great. We would come back here for sure!

Yelp
This was my 2nd visit and won't be my last. We stopped for lunch on our way out of town. We sat down right away, and the menu was huge, including a lunch menu addition. Our server was not the best (seemed nervous, quiet, and not attentive). Other than that, the food was tasty. We had brisket platter, smoked wings and founder sandwich ( it wasn't on a bun & forgot the Cajun ranch on it) the smoked mac n cheese delicious. Something for everyone

Yelp
I came in for lunch on a weekday afternoon, just after opening. I was seated at a booth parallel to the bar and the bartender was my server. I appreciated that they weren't lazy in the sense that they walked to my table instead of shouting over the bar (happens a lot with me). I had the clam chowder to start. It was very different, but good and chock full of clams. It reminded me a lot of Tony's clam chowder, if you've had it. I had the brisket grilled cheese. It was fantastic and filling. The bread was toasted perfectly and didn't get soggy. I don't eat brisket but it was tender and smoky. The sauces complimented the brisket perfectly. The sandwich was rather messy but I enjoyed eating it. The bartender/server was new and let me know but wasn't obnoxious about it. They had a few questions to clarify which was great to ensure I got what I ordered. In fact, I was tempted by them to pick what I ordered. It was slow and they made nice chit chat and overall was a very wonderful experience. I plan on coming back or visiting one of their sister restaurants in the future.

Yelp
Best catfish I've had in a long time. My partner had a brisket grilled cheese which he said was great and more than enough. Tasty, crisp French fries. We left full and satisfied!

Ashley M.

Yelp
Very good bbq at reasonable pricing great service and awesome atmosphere Nicole our waitress was the best server I had all week in town!

Yelp
Food and service was excellent 10 out of 10 definitely has an amazing barbecue smell when you walk in. Definitely recommend the wings.

Yelp
Went to Bubba's for happy hour. Draft beers were only $3 which I think is a pretty good deal; especially since other places in Myrtle beach are charging $8 for the same thing. We didn't eat here, but the food smelt and looked good. Im assuming it's pretty standard fish/American food, but I didn't look at the menu. The bartender was also a server for some tables, but was still attentive for the extra duties. The restaurant was really big. I could see this place being really popular during the busy season. I'd go back to try the food.

Yelp
We love seafood and bbq so we decided to give Bubbas a try. Probably the best meal I've during this visit to Myrtle Beach. Our server was very friendly and super knowledgeable and helpful with the menu. The atmosphere was very laid back with a lot of TVs. We enjoyed watching the Olympics while we waited.

Yelp
Onion rings were colossal!!!!! Tasty. Slightly salty but good The grouper fingers weren't as crispy as requested. No one at our table was satisfied with the food tonight. The 2 starts were given only for our waitress. None of the replacements were done correctly (ex. Fries were supposed to be substituted for beans) My mother in law could not stomach the sausage she ordered. I guess this was our second and last visit. Not to mention before leaving I asked another server for to go lids and she said she was "too busy" and I would have to wait. Which I totally understand in a sense but it was the way she said what she said.
google avatar

S K.

Yelp
I usually don't trust a place that serves fish and BBQ but this was a great stop for lunch. Friendly staff and good food. Highly recommend the crab cakes and grouper. The clam chowder was one of the best I've ever had. Can't up wrong eating here.
google avatar

Yelp
Second time here, first time was lunch, this time dinner. Gracie was our server and she was super. There were four of us and our food was mainly excellent. I had the mussels, so good! The others had crab cakes, ribs, and the "going overboard" platter. My only criticism would be the mac and cheese, it was runny and just not that flavorful. It's a big space and was pretty empty when we arrived but filled up quickly. Definitely worth a try if you haven't been.

Yelp
I got the smoked Chicken with cold slaw and baked beans with French fries and it is delicious, washing it down with a Dr. Pepper. 5.5 Stars

Yelp
The food were delicious. I ate the three times while I was in the area grape food keep up the good work.

Yelp
We went here on a Tuesday afternoon around 5:30pm and were seated immediately. The decor had a wonderful honky-tonk vibe. For an appetizer, I ordered the Bubba-Lo shrimp with Bubba-Lo sauce. It was reminiscent of buffalo (hot sauce) shrimp which was exactly what I preferred. My husband ordered the chopped brisket tacos which was worth the visit alone. The catfish entree I ordered was good and I loved the hush puppies accompanied with the honey butter. For dessert, they didn't offer bread pudding but their butter toffee bunt cake made me forget about bread pudding. It was delicious, better than any bread pudding I've ever had. This place checked all the boxes for me and the portions were sizable. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Marlo T.

Yelp
Flavor good, I've had better. Food temp was not very hot. Just warmed except Mac and Cheese was scalding. Service was great. Just temp of food not good. Literally microwave warmed it seemed like

Yelp
The food was good but they lost our order (printer down) and 45-min later waiter let us know. I will say manager stopped by and gave us substantial discount which took away some of pain, we had young kids and hard to keep them happy. Overall food was good, I'll give them a pass although waiter should have offered appetizers, don't wait so long as to have to get manager involved.
google avatar

Yelp
Ehhh not the worst, not the best... sounds better than what you actually get. Service sucks. Nice size restaurant tho. The brisket chili was good.

Yelp
The food and the service at this restaurant was outstanding the waitress. Lin blew us away with her personality in her personal approach to servicing really enjoyed her. Additionally, the buffet of sauces yes, please more please highly recommend this restaurant in the next time you're there ask for Lin she will give you a good experience 1000 stars. Get it Lin!!! The atmosphere, and the restaurant is casual, which was fantastic for us.

Michelle R.

Yelp
Bubbas was fantastic! From a very fun decor, to great waitstaff we had a great time. Most of us had the ribs which can't think of enough words to describe the flavor and incredible tenderness. We will go back!!

Yelp
I was in the area for a competition with my dog so this is not my normal haunt but it is next to where I was staying and meant I didn't have to drive anywhere, a plus after a long day. The food was good as were the drinks ... I had the ribs and substituted a salad for the baked beans since I am not a fan of anyone's baked beans. I am not going to comment on the hush puppies that accompanied the meal since I am missing that gene but the ribs were good and, after being outside all day on a cold rainy day, the smoked Old Fashion hit the spot. But I am going to comment on the service from a different view point. Sometimes when you walk into a restaurant and ask for a table for one, the service is spotty and dismissive and they make no secret that you are taking up valuable real estate. Now I don't know if it was because it was late afternoon in between lunch and dinner and there were not a lot of tables that were taken but the server could not have been nicer. She didn't rush me or give me any less than flawless attention. She was pretty busy, since she was the only one in the area, but she came back a few times to see if I needed anything and deserves a pat on the back for being cheerful on a gray day.

Yelp
I stopped in for a take out order. The service (at the bar) was outstanding and the bbq was awesome.
google avatar

Jonathan K.

Yelp
The food was just bad. Ribs were so rubbery. The mahi mahi was over cooked and very dry. The fries were the best thing that came out. It was too bad because I was looking forward to a 4 star meal and got a 2 star. The hostess was kind and asked me how my food was. Unfortunately it was about 20 minutes or so later. My waiter never came to see how my food was or I would of sent it back but he never came. When it was time to go I got my bill and a soda refill. (Little late now). I told him to tell the cook the food was just bad. I would not recommend this place to eat unfortunately when they're are so many other options.

Yelp
Visited in November, 5:30 ish, place was dead (which should have been a red flag). I also realized it's a franchise of some kind, second red flag. Our server was JC, nice enough guy, fairly disconnected and robotic but not a deal breaker. We ordered fried pickles for our app. My wife got the crab cakes with fried okra. I got the ribs with collards. We both also got a side of macaroni and cheese. The pickles and okra were both solid bar food. Of course, neither are rocket science. 4 stars. Crab cakes were odd at best. Not terrible, edible. Nothing memorable or anything I'd suggest. 2 stars. Collards were out of a can or had been sitting in their juices for 1/2 the lifetime of uranium. They included the stalks, so it was an adventure to eat. 100% don't order. 1 star. Ribs, just no. Gnaw off the bone with some type of generic bbq sauce dripping off them. Nothing was good about them. Gross crap you'd find on an all you can eat buffet. 1 star. They give me the chills even recollecting them. The mac and cheese deserve their own paragraph. In my 47 years, I've never witnessed anyone destroy something so simple. They were literally orange, like nacho cheese. Overcooked noodles. Inedible, disgusting garbage. Kraft box Mac would be considered fine dining in comparison. We each had one bite. I accepted that the entrees were low quality, with no intention to complain. We ate what we could and recognized we made a bad decision on our dining. The mac and cheese on the other hand, shouldn't be sold. When JC asked, we mentioned they weren't our thing. He then said NO ONE ever eats then and the he would also never eat them. We then asked why he wouldn't have mentioned that when we ordered, he just shrugged his shoulders. When the bill arrived, there was the Mac, for $6. I prepared to have a melt down, just for the simplest of customer service. I just spent $80 on a grossly below average meal for 2, with no drinks. I believe JC overheard my conversation and came back with a revised bill without the mac. With 4k + restaurants in the area, pick another.

Yelp
Food was very good with generous servings. Keyanna was our waitress and took very good care of us.

Yelp
We were so pleased within our meals during our annual Surfside Beach vacation down there that we visited again a few days later with family. Normally we patron Bubba's Fish Shack, but on a whim decided to try this one. We were not disappointed & in fact, liked this location better! We'll be back again next year!

Yelp
Brisket fries are amazing! Brisket and the sauces that come on that appetizer mix very well together. Waiting staff very nice and friendly. Looked to me that the BBQ part of the menu was keeps above the "fish camp" menu. Large TV screens and a good place to take a large group.
google avatar

Cherie K.

Yelp
This place is a treasure! The food is amazing! The service also excellent. They give you nice portions with plenty of meat. The prices are excellent for such high quality food!!! Go hurry
google avatar

Mike J.

Yelp
Food was excellent and service was top notch. I love the go to drink cups they provide to every guest.
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
Buy the catfish! All you can eat; yummy It's worth it too. They have more locations check it out
google avatar

Ben B.

Yelp
Not too bad a place. Met one of my teammates from whom I haven't seen in over 20 years! Appetizers were good. I got the hush puppies and he got fried green tomatoes and both were great! Next came the entrees. He had the Po boy sandwich and I had all you can eat catfish. Both were good. My girl got shrimp. It tasted great. The only downside were the sides as they came in small containers you'd normally getting salad dressing in - way too much money for such a small order. I'd still come back but just work on the sides please.
google avatar

Cheryl R.

Yelp
Bubbas Fish Camp & Smokehouse has really gone downhill! The waiter we had today couldn't get my order right, and I received a bowl of baked beans as a meal. I had ordered a pulled pork platter with baked beans as a side. He brought my husband's food. We called him over after waiting for my food. He thought we were sharing my husband's catfish, which was an unshareable meal, all you can eat. I asked for the manager, explained the problem, second time this place has let me down, and left. I won't go back and don't recommend this establishment.
google avatar

Matt D.

Yelp
I went there on 11/20. Walk in, and they took the name "smokehouse" too literal. It was extremely smoky in there. Hazy, eyes burning, 1980s high school bathroom smoky. I asked if it's supposed to be this smoky, and was told they had a problem earlier, but did what they had to do to get the meat out. Just got to wait for the smoke to dissipate. So we went in and hoped it would sorted. It didn't btw. As for our meal there. Brisket was so so. Ribs were bone dry, not a dry rub dry, the meat itself was dry, like they were under a heat lamp for too long. I never had ribs that dried out before. Smoked sausage. Just goto the food store and get whatever brand you like and fry or grill it. Baked beans, no better than what you can get out of a can. While I like canned baked beans, I kind of expected better. Mac and cheese was trash, not cheesy at all, very dry, hard and dried out on top. I'm guessing another heat lamp victim. Store bought Mac and cheese in a box is far better. Corn pudding was pretty good. Cole slaw was alright. Service was alright. Seemed like they were short staffed. Had to get up to get the server's attention. But that's because he was busy doing work and helping other customers. Not his fault, he was busy. Mission BBQ is far, far better. Not a chance I'll return here. I won't go back to any of the "Divine Dining group" restaurants again. Maybe they get by on suckering tourists in, but as a local, I'm done with them.

Lisa V.

Yelp
Our first stop after a long day of traveling... and as expected, food and service was excellent. Told the wait time was 25 minutes and it was exactly 25 minutes. So happy to have my favorite hush puppies. We had fish tacos, wings and pulled pork sandwiches. Delicious!!
google avatar

Trey A.

Yelp
My mother is very picky about her seafood and her barbecue. But she loved everything that they had her at the Bubba's, all of the sides were great and so tasty; coleslaw, baked beans, fried okra, sweet potato fries, hush puppies were all great. She is typically picky but didn't complain once!! We loved the BBQ ribs and brisket. Also trying the Flounder, Grouper, All you can eat catfish!! We honestly didn't eat something we didn't like. The waitress was so helpful and helped us navigate the menu. Giving great recommendations and telling us the usual. They were playing fun pop music and the atmosphere was great so many laughing smiling faces.
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
Inedibly salty fried grouper fingers. I NEVER complain about food at a restaurant but I could barely finish one piece of fish. never again

Edward R.

Yelp
I talked with the Business Service Manager. I thought it was honest and open conversation we had. But I was wrong because you did nothing. I now understand why the staff isn't trained right. Stop asking for people to get in touch with you if you are not going to do anything.

Tyler D.

Yelp
The service for one was the most poor service I have experienced in awhile last night. While sitting with my group of 7 at the bar we first ordered drinks and then proceeded to order. Mind you we waited 25 minutes to order our food because our Bar tender disappeared, after placing our order we waited on an appetizer that did not come out until our food. We waited for our food for over an hour. The Bar tender did not check up on us and was a struggle to get a refill. One of the 7 ordered all you can eat catfish and the bartender checked on the other side of the bar but not on ours. It took 30 minutes for them to come to see if he wanted more catfish. Defiantly did not get his money's worth. Overall would not recommend.
google avatar

Scott K.

Yelp
Great Ribs and Chicken! Service was great and price was very affordable . We'll be back.
google avatar

Mary G.

Yelp
My husband and I were very disappointed with our dining experience. My husband ordered sliced beef brisket and it wasn't sliced. He was served scraped burnt ends. I ordered mussels cooked in wine sauce, but it tasted like it was cooked in plain boiled water. In addition, I had to go to urgent care and get transferred to the hospital with an alert reaction. I have never been alert to shellfish and I eat it almost daily. The mussels were cold and must have sat all day. The service was very slow it took forty minutes to receive our order. I am African American and I always like to see diversity represented in the places I visit, but the only African American working was cleaning tables. All of the waitresses were cute white girls.

Bianca S.

Yelp
I was looking forward to trying their ribs, but they were too spicy hot for me and I told them not to add any extra sauce, my friend thought that they were a little hot also. They were also burnt. I kind of liked the pulled pork sliders but my friend said that they had no taste. I liked the sides and we had great service at the bar.
google avatar

H G.

Yelp
Oh my BRISKET! And BBQ and RIBS! As if Bubba's Fish Shack wasn't great enough with the flounder and crab cakes, Divine Dining Group did it again with Bubba's Fish Camp and Smokehouse. They literally have a smoker in the dining room. Tina was the manager on duty, I saw her greeting every table. Courtney was my bartender and she's so great! You gotta come and see them.

Nicole H.

Yelp
Food is above average however they just changed the menu and it is less customer friendly with ordering multiple kinds of sea foods. Just a good typical fried sea food restaurant. The BBQ looks tasty but I have not tried it yet!
google avatar

Scott P.

Yelp
Average food. Pretty cool sports pub atmosphere for the tourists but nothing special as far as the food is concerned. The server told me the grouper was frozen, the flounder was not local, but the catfish was popular. I did notice they promote the crab cakes as "homemade". Also, one of my local buds told me their barbecue was good but I got stuck here for a late dinner in Feb so choices were limited in the off-season. I tried the flounder sandwich. It was decent and filling but nothing to brag about. Good service however. Try Mr.Fish if you want to eat where the locals prefer. When I go to the beach, I prefer local fresh food, but this place doesn't check that off.
