In Washington State's San Juan Islands, Time Stands Still and Nature Reigns Supreme

"Perhaps our favorite meal was at Buck Bay Shellfish Farm on Orcas, where we ate oysters on the half shell and seafood rolls artfully adorned with edible flowers at a picnic table steps from the bay where the restaurant grows its own crustaceans."

Where to Eat on Your Next Trip to the San Juan Islands

"The drive to the far side of Orcas Island is worth it for the bay-fresh oysters, garlicky steamed clams, and other local seafood at this no-frills bistro in the town of Olgas. Dine outdoors on the sun-drenched grassy lawns overlooking the idyllic bay where the farm grows its own Salish Sea oysters and clams. Start with BB Farm’s oysters on the half-shell and halibut ceviche before moving on to mains like decadent crab mac and cheese with red rock and Dungeness crab meat mixed with gruyere and smoked Tillamook cheese on panko-crusted cavatappi pasta. The Island Roll, a brioche roll heaped with Pacific cod, shrimp, scallops, and halibut with herb aioli and a sprinkling of salmon roe, is another favorite." - Megan Hill, Zoe Baillargeon

How My Family Adapted Our Annual West Coast Road Trip This Summer

"Buck Bay Shellfish Farm is located on Orcas Island and is known for offering fresh seafood including oysters, crab, and spot prawns. The farm is a preferred spot for the author's family to purchase seafood to cook at home, rather than dining out."

Yummy seafood spot! They grow their own clams and many menu items are locally sourced (like the halibut). We had the spot prawn (buttery and fresh), fried oysters (very nicely battered - delicate), steamed clams (manila clams), and fried halibut sandwich. The sandwich was very good and flavorful, but next time I'd probably try a non-fried entree. Service was super friendly and seating was outdoors under a tarp. Will be back tomorrow :)

We had a wonderful late lunch here. We came upon it driving as we were staying nearby. The view was lovely. Very friendly staff and we even chatted up other patrons sitting close by. Definitely recommend if you are in the area. We had the crab plate and the bbq oysters. Strong cocktails, great beer and wine :)

Very casual dining by the bay - you order at the counter. My review will hopefully help anyone on a plant-based or vegetarian diet. Their salad looks like an appetizer at first glance but is full size; it’s nice and fresh. Fries are good and many people can’t resist ordering it. Their halibut chowder isn’t the usual thick kind but if you’ve cooked chowder at home you know it’s only one ingredient you’re kind of glad to skip. Salad in photo was from today’s special. Restaurants on Orcas Island are limited so this place is as good as it gets!

Simply the best seafood I have ever had in my life. Couldn’t be fresher. Beautiful spot, they farm the oysters right across from the restaurant. Crab, oysters and shrimp cocktail were the best I have ever had. I work at good a seafood restaurant, but this place is outstanding. Extremely recommend it. Loved it!

Excellent food! Casual dining with a great view! We had crab cakes, shrimp cocktail, best fish and chips (they use halibut!)and the oysters which were so fresh and delicious. We brought our own wine and wine glasses and they are dog friendly as well. Highly recommend!

Parking can be a bit of a bother and there was a long line when we arrived but it was all worth it. I personally had the halibut tacos and they were delicious. The entire menu is very pricey but it’s Orcas Island in the summer time and well when the food is this delicious and fresh it’s worth the price and support of a small business.

Halibut chips are out of this world. Crispy and lightly battered on the outside with just the right amount of seasoning and flaky and juicy inside. Halibut is so fresh and mouth watering delicious. Receptionists are friendly. Such a fun vibe at the venue. Plenty of casual outdoor seats under the canopy or under the trees by the grass lawn. It does get very crowded when the summer season starts so expect to stand in line.

We went to get oysters and were blown away by the great food, outdoor eating space, and friendly staff. We took our boat to the dock and walked to the restaurant. It was a beautiful walk around the bay where the oysters are harvested. There were wild black berry plants along the road.
