Had a fantastic, quiet dinner with my wife and cousin. She recommended this place and she was spot on. The restaurant is quiet, dark, and relaxing. Service was stellar, our drink orders were taken and returned quickly. Mixed drinks were tasty and poured perfectly. The food was incredible. From the 1/2 chicken to the Smokey Burger all were cooked, seasoned, and plated perfectly. The burger was cooked to a perfect medium rare as was the steak. The chicken was flavorful and juicy. Great food and an atmosphere that allowed for conversation. A great time. Will be back again.

Google
What a fun surprise! We stopped in for an impromptu dessert and drink after a long day and were sat at the corner of the bar. The chocolate cake was delightful and rich, it paired great with the Table 27 cocktail. I ordered an amaro on the rocks afterwards and the bartender offered to shake it to chill it which was a great touch! I’m looking forward to going back in the future for the real deal soon.

We went there with friends for dinner last night and had a great time. I had the Luna as a cocktail and ordered the chicken dish. It was really tasty. My husband had the fish and chips and enjoyed it too. Our waitress was very attentive. Definitely coming back!

Amazing Fish Stew, Fish and Chips, Wood Grilled Pork Chops and Pesto Rigatoni. The seasonal Apple Crisp for desert was amazing! Great vibe. Ben at the Bar mixed delicious cocktails! Must eat here when in DC.

Been coming here since they opened 20 years ago, and they never disappoint. Incredible consistency of quality and service. The steak is among the best in DC - believe the hype! But everything else is great too. Their wine list is also terrific with some serious gems at reasonable prices. One of my all time favs!

I’m so happy to be back in the neighborhood. And so lucky that Buck’s is around the corner. I’ve eaten there now for five nights in a row while my kitchen is out of service. My brother and I are slowly working our way through the cocktail menu. Is it getting expensive? Yes. Is it worth it? Yes. Can I live off Buck’s fried oysters, watercress Caesar salad, and cocktails? Maybe! The atmosphere is warm and lovely, service is friendly but doesn’t smother, and if you go half an hour before they close, there’s usually a table even if you haven’t reserved. Highly recommend.

This is one of my favorite spots! Food is always exactly what I'm craving, not sure how they do it! lol Jk aside, this is a phenomenal spot. 2024, April. Once again the food here is a lovely treat. I'll continue to eat here as long as it exists.

Walked up on this place four minutes before they opened. They requested that we wait outside for a while. Perhaps to finish pre-shift. Fine. Everything was fairly tasty. The cornmeal fried oysters were a hit with my cousin and I. The wedge salad had a tart/citrus but savory taste to it. Topped with yummy thick cut bacon. Entrees were sort of bland. I enjoyed the cauliflower purée and sprouts. However, the scallops had a rough texture to them. I’m not exactly sure why they tasted rough/dry. Usually scallops have a soft, buttery taste to them. My cousin did enjoy the lemon caper sauce. I’d say the sauce was enjoyable. We also ordered the crab cakes, please order with caution. They aren’t lump crab, if you’re a local. No pic because the dish did not look appetizing. Reason I’m rating this place a two is because I go to restaurants for more than ambiance. I go for food and service. The server was nice and knowledgeable. He neglected to inform me that he charged me twice after we requested a split check. My cousin paid and tipped in cash. After calling the manager tonight when I noticed, she said she couldn’t find the check. I told her I can email everything to her. I asked for email address and she told me it was on the website. Second inconvenience. I went to website and there’s no email address. There’s nothing about this place that would make me return after the manager on duty’s communication with me. Do better.

Yelp
I'm shocked there's so many bad reviews. Bucks is my one of my FAVORITE place to enjoy a dinner with good friends or on a date. I typically ask for a gin gimlet which is always great. Their cornmeal crusted oysters are DELICIOUS. Highly recommend. Friends have also really enjoyed the carrot dip, and the onion rings. I got the fried green tomato appetizer earlier this summer, and i do have to agree with others that it was an overpriced let down. But so many other appetizers are fantastic!! The burger gets a lot of hype but is just okay. Some days it's great and some days I'm like 'this needs a lot of condiments' The buttery quinoa dish, delicious. I love when there is halibut on the menu! Their fish and chips are also fantastic. Friends who eat meat have really enjoy the schnitzel. I haven't been in a while because my boyfriend suggested we try some new to both of us restaurants, but i can't wait till we get to circle back! Go for the ambiance. Stay for the oysters and other fantastic apps, skip the fried green tomatoes, and have a wonderful time!! One star off because sometimes getting the attention of the staff can be a challenge. I can recall once dying of thirst and thinking i was invisible. But on average, this is a fantastic spot for adults!

Yelp
Ridiculous mandatory 22% tip for substandard service, including a $10 beer served 3/4 full and a roll-eye when I asked if they could please fill it up. Overpriced, arrogant, underwhelming. Go back to putting the customer first, please.

Yelp
My husband and I have been regulars at Buck's for many years. We absolutely love it. The food, service and ambiance are all top notch. It's hard to choose a favorite dish. The burger is one of the best in the city. The fish and chips are always fresh and tasty. But I'd probably say it's the wood-grilled pork chop, as I've never had a better one anywhere. The Manhattan cocktails are also very well made. When we lived down the street, we went to Buck's every Friday, but even after we moved across town we still try to visit at least once a month. We're happy to call it our favorite restaurant.

Yelp
The theme and idea are great. Good ambiance, friendly scene. Creative menu, good specials. Locally sourced. Good wine list, cocktails. Bar area and sitting area. Parking surprisingly accessible for DC. Food is about on par with what you'd expect at this price point in this area, fine but nothing extraordinary. Service needs work. Food runners were great and friendly, our server was hit and miss, sloppy, inattentive at points, forgot to bring things, and have clearly letting him know a person in our party had a gluten allergy he nonetheless let them order something that did have gluten in the preparation (the menu has gluten friendly options but limited given the theme and is not clearly marked). Would not go out of my way.

Yelp
I had never been here before and went for a small group dinner. The ambiance is nice, but my $26 bone-in pork chop with cole slaw, ordered medium rare, was not large and under 1 inch thick. While the flavor was okay, it came overcooked and dry, tough to cut and chew. I would have asked for a replacement, but no one came to the table to ask how our food was, and servers buzzed by, so couldn't get their attention for this or other requests. I went home hungry, and expected a bit thicker chop, cooked medium rare and juicy, like I get at other restaurants. I didn't want to make a fuss in front of the other people, but would not go back here. They shouldn't have this on the menu if they can't cook it properly, especially at a $25+ price point.

Yelp
I'll keep it simple. I'm a native Washingtonian and I frequent this beautiful neighborhood often particularly when visiting Politics & Prose. After stopping by an author appearance this week, I entered Buck's to order a couple delicious appetizers to bring home: An iceberg lettuce wedge salad, plus an order of fried green tomatoes. Total cost with tax and tip was $40 for these two appetizers. The portions were indescribably tiny. The salad was simply a quarter wedge of iceberg with bacon in the take-home package, and a small dollop of salad dressing in a container. Worse, there were only two tomato slices prepared as fried green tomatoes. Each fried green tomato was priced at $8, since the appetizer was $16. Seriously? I don't recall a more embarrassing, absurd and over-priced offering at any other Washington restaurant in my experience.

Frederick W.

Yelp
Overpriced and unremarkable food Draft beer $9 Cocktail $14 Bacon cheeseburger that was tough and sinewy was $26 with fries. Fish and chips was Ok and $28 Wedge salad was big but $17. Service was Ok but nothing special Party of four split one appetizer and each had one drink--$270 with tip Atmosphere and lighting was really great however

Maribeth S.

Yelp
Carrot Dip with Flatbread was fresh and delicious. I ordered the Bone-In Pork Chop which was great with the Mustardy Cabbage Cole Slaw. The chop was grilled perfectly! For dessert I had the seasonal crisp and it was loaded with fresh fruit and a tasty, buttery crumble. I will be back.

Rhona B.

Yelp
My husband and I were very disappointed. The atmosphere is very nice. Burgers very dry (asked for medium rare and it was very well done) and pretty pricey. Very good fries but the cole slaw had way too much mayonnaise. Watermelon margarita- barely any watermelon flavor and very little alcohol - mostly ice. This was our first time at this restaurant and while the reviews were read were good, that was not our experience.

Yelp
Always a safe bet but a tough ticket when you want to go without a reservation. Staff is awesome. Drinks are spectacular and the ambiance is unique. Always feel good about going to Bucks.

Toby W.

Yelp
A neighborhood favorite. We have celebrated many birthdays, Valentines Days, anniversaries etc. at this under the radar gem.

Yelp
This place was a great experience! Definitely come if you are looking for a cool ambiance, the decor is amazing. The food was tasty, but nothing unique.

JP W.

Yelp
I sat at the bar and had excellent service. The pork chop was perfect. Everything came out as expected. Buck's was crowded with a great atmosphere. I would highly recommend it.

Meaghan G.

Yelp
Such a cool place. Onion rings were some of the best. Had the chicken and another one of the meats, can't remember now..ice cream sundae for dessert. Felt like a kid again with good food. Owner seems really nice, made conversation with a lot of the tables around us

Yelp
We live near Buck's fishing and camping. For the first year we lived here we thought it was a store that sold outdoor items; then we realized it was a restaurant! I've been looking forward to trying it, and decided that we would finally order in (even though they have a cute patio). We ordered the fried chicken family meal. It came with 6 pieces fried chicken, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, three flat biscuits, coleslaw, pickles, and chocolate cake. I am so sad to share that we were extremely disappointed- everything looked amazing but wasn't. The chicken, pickles, coleslaw, biscuits and mac and cheese were borderline flavorless. The mashed potatoes were okay (but they didn't come with gravy, which was weird). The only thing I would order again is the chocolate cake. Unfortunately, we don't recommend this restaurant. Almost everything was very bland and not worth the money at all.

Christopher P.

Yelp
For a special night out, this is a lovely spot with a terrific menu. Nice neighborhood vibe but food is tippity top. Entrees run in the $25 range so probably better to leave the kids at home. Everything I've eaten there has always been good so you're in for a treat. On a recent evening, I brought my buddy for a bachelor party of two. We sipped Manhattans while meandering down memory lane. We were able to get a curbside outdoor table on a warm evening. Fun to watch the passerby traffic and feel part of the neighborhood.

John M.

Yelp
The service is TERRIBLE; the busboys try to pull plates before you're done and they interrupt your conversation to ask if you want more water?!? WTF! Fill up the water when it's low like everyone else. We asked for malt vinegar for the fish and chips and it turns out there was only one for the whole restaurant. They charge $14 for a piece of carrot cake--buy some f@&ing malt vinegar.

Rodger S.

Yelp
I went here last night & loved it! The setting is very nice with rustic tables & generally a sense of being outdoors. Lots of plants & even a rowboat hanging over our heads. My pork chop was absolute perfect! Very moist & very flavorful. The portion was just right as well. The table shared the Brussel sprouts, which I also liked a lot. Roasted but not with all those extras you get at some places--like bacon & cranberries or whatever--that make you forget you're eating a vegetable.

Lila T.

Yelp
It's a nearly perfect neighborhood restaurant. Deliciously elevated yet familiar versions of classic recipes, good cocktails and wine, a welcoming and charming atmosphere. Top notch service - speedy, knowledgeable, friendly. If I could give 4.5 stars I would because the chocolate cake dessert is a major miss (dry, short of flavor in all elements of the dish, way overpriced at $14 for what it is), but otherwise Buck's is such a lovely place to revisit again and again.

Penelope B.

Yelp
Have eaten twice there recently, and the food and service both times have been consistently excellent. Last night, my steak was perfectly cooked, incredibly flavorful, and served with a generous serving of perfectly cooked fries and a side salad. The wait staff were attentive, without being overbearing, and the ambience was low-key and relaxing, but also managed to make me feel like what we were enjoying was special, not just another meal out. And the check at the end seemed very reasonable, considering we often spend the same or much more for meals I don't enjoy nearly as much.

Jay P.

Yelp
Good food and great service. Everything was delicious. The in-house ice cream was a wonderful surprise.

Joe S.

Yelp
It's...ok. Service was ok, occasionally bordering on indifferent. Drinks were never refilled, which was a shame sitting outside on a warm summer evening. Shrimp and grits is nothing like traditional but ok on its own terms. Fish and chips are fine, a little bready. Burger was above average but you're paying top dollar here.

LJ B.

Yelp
Love this place! Food is amazing and the atmosphere is great. The fried spicy pickles and mini corn dogs are literally delicious, and the burgers are top tier. Drinks are solid. Highly recommend as a great neighborhood restaurant.

Dave C.

Yelp
Literally one of THE WORST dining experiences I have had.... And I eat out a lot. I'll provide more detail below for those who are interested. 1) We were a group of 5. 4 of us showed up at 8p, and 1 more was going to join us at 8:30/45. The first 4 of us sought to get drinks at the bar. They encouraged us to grab our table and order with our waitress. We took their lead and sat at our table. Menus and water came, but then no one came back to take our drink orders. They were just waiting for the 5th person to show up. Understandable. We went back to the bar after 10+ minutes to order drinks, they apologized profusely, and sent the waitress over right away. 2) We then ordered drinks, including one for the person who had not yet arrived. 15 more minutes passed, and no drinks came. Turns out they couldn't figure out the ingredients for one of the drinks, and instead of ask us OR bring the other four drinks, they just made us wait... until we complained again. 3) Finally the drinks came and they took our food order. After a decent wait (and, mind you, it was not that busy that night), they brought 3 of our 5 dishes out. Those with dishes started eating. The remaining two dishes *never came.* After 10+ minutes of waiting, we complained again, they rushed to check with the kitchen, and then apologized (for the Nth time) that the orders had not been input correctly. 4) We then ordered another round of drinks while waiting for the additional dishes to be made. 15+ minutes later, those drinks finally arrived. We were steamed that they couldn't get anything right. 5) When the burger finally arrived (one of the originally missing items), it looked great. We had ordered it medium -- intentionally not medium rare because we didn't want it all that pink on the inside. The center of the burger was RAW BEEF. In their rush to address the missing items, they severely undercooked the meat. No other way to describe this experience than (a) HORRIBLE for us as guests, and (b) EMBARRASSING for them as a restaurant. When you are an establishment with $34 entrees on the menu, we expect better. Needless to say, we will not be going back there again.

Joey A.

Yelp
This place is COOL AF! Try the onion rings! Honestly, it's all really good. The type of place where the servers make you feel like you're a 73 year old regular who sits at the same table every first Friday of the month.

Tali L.

Yelp
Had a very positive experience at Buck's. We cannot remember the server's name, but he was wonderful and attentive while also training another staff member. We ate outside next to a fire pit AND heat lamp. Felt cozy and warm. I had fish n chips and my partner had steak. Both great! I also ordered a fig cocktail, which tasted refreshing (and also a fun change from the normal beer and wine at home). Finally, we ordered the chocolate cake! A great meal with great service. We are in the neighborhood and will happily return.

Ed T.

Yelp
Wonderful dinner. Great team service, atmosphere, love the potted plants on all the tables and the bar. Will come back.

Regi D.

Yelp
The food was absolutely amazing!! My very first time eating Halibut and Buck's did not disappoint at all!!! Definitely plan on coming here again so my father can try out the deliciousness here..

Max B.

Yelp
Overall, I felt pretty underwhelmed by my experience at Buck's. To start, my server spent more time checking the validity of my ID rather than introducing my date and me to the menu and checking in on our meal. As for the meal itself, my steak came out cold, which was a huge disappointment considering it was the most expensive item on the menu. Perhaps I came to Buck's on an off night, because if I just stopped at the appetizers, I would give Buck's higher marks (the fried oysters were great). But alas, if you're in the mood for steak, seek higher ground and go to a true steakhouse that has a little more pride.

Buffalo B.

Yelp
The service was friendly and fast, big round of applause to them. The burrata salad I split with my friend was outstanding. I had fish and chips for the entrée -- standard fare -- and my friend got the quinoa bowl. The kale that came with it was smoked (?) and not well seasoned, it impacted her whole dish in my opinion. This place has a great vibe and decor, if I come again I'll try some more adventurous dishes to see what this place can do.

Jeannine S.

Yelp
I was a little surprised by this place. At first glance, I thought they serve fishing and camping equipment, not food and drinks. I can't be the only one who had this thought! Buck's came recommended, so we gave it a try. When you walk in, its a little dark and cozy. They have a community table in the center, with a bunch of 2-6 top tables surrounding. It's a casual, comfortable vibe. Staff we had was very friendly and accommodating. We went early (around 6pm) and it wasn't packed...this was perfect because I was with my parents and they can't deal with loud places. Their cocktail and wine list is a must try. Great selection and beautiful presentation! The food was really good. I started with a Cesar Salad, that came with the lettuce laid out in pieces covered with a delicious dressing. I also ordered the roasted chicken, which I recommend. Other items were the veggie bowl with quinoa, a burger, and a sundae. Everyone loved their meal (including our meat eating friend that enjoyed the veggie bowl). The Sundae you could probably do without (It was good enough to satisfy a sweet tooth, but I wouldn't go out of my way to order it in the future). All around, great experience. This was perfect for taking my parents so they could actually hear the dinner table conversation. If I lived in DC, I would go here on a dinner date. Don't go here if you're looking for a "scene", because that's not what you're going to get. What you will get is a good quality meal at a reasonable price in a comfy atmosphere.

Lulu D.

Yelp
I've eaten here 3 times in the past few years and each meal has been very very good. The most recent delicious. We had the blackened Halibut and Burrata salad. Service also always has been good and I enjoy the unique decor inside and outside.

Peggy T.

Yelp
We had Buck's amazingly delicious fried chicken dinner last night for my husbands birthday. We had a picnic in our car overlooking Peirce Mill in Rock Creek Park. It was the perfect birthday celebration. Thank you Buck's!

D K.

Yelp
We went last week and had a great time. We were seated immediately (I think we went on a Saturday or Sunday). We had the spicy mezcal margarita, blackened halibut, fish and chips, and the world famous chocolate cake. They were all really good! The fish were very fresh and the chocolate cake really does deserve to be world famous. I enjoyed my spicy mezcal margarita. It was a great balance of smokiness and heat and citrus. The service was nice and the decor cute.

Sherry S.

Yelp
It was good until it wasn't. 2 of us had halibut which was fine. I asked for a veggie substitution and was accommodated. 2 of us had steak & hamburger.....both over cooked. Then when we got the bill we noticed a $2 charge for my veggie substitution and a $1 charge for tartar sauce. What's up with that!??? Waiter never mentioned an up charge. There's no mention of an up charge on the menu. Poor good will. Do they think people won't look at the bill?!? Of course, the $3 isn't the issue; it's the principle of not being told. I wonder what other up charges they tack on to the bill of unsuspecting diners. Come on! $1 up charge for tartar sauce!!?? You've got to be kidding! BEWARE!

Matthew M.

Yelp
There is a reason DC is nicknamed Ugly Hollywood. The people (tbf mostly the transplants) here are massively douchey. You can tell by the tone of the negative reviews for this restaurant how pretentious and entitled these losers are. Anyway, Buck's is really good. I had the flat iron steak with fries and some Bourbon to drink. Also tried the onion rings. Yum. Good stuff.

Elizabeth W.

Yelp
Awesome chicken. Lovely salads and appetizers. Great atmosphere- friendly and food is amazing

Barbara C.

Yelp
Went for a birthday dinner (my 70th) three days ago with dear friends and had an amazing time.  Still thinking about the meal, the relaxing decor and the nice vibe! In addition to a delicious meal and great wines (we ordered softshell crabs served over a summer succotash, side orders of the chard and Caesar salad, as well as hot wings and the onion rings starter), we had a wonderful waiter, who had just the right balance of friendliness and efficiency. He recognized that we wanted time to visit and did not rush us. He and the other staff member made certain that we had everything we needed.  The food was fresh and a great value for the price.  The chef nailed the soft shells and the chard perfectly. They even surprised us with complimentary glasses of champagne when we arrived. We loved everything and are looking forward to returning.  It's a great place! We will be back for sure!!

Dan M.

Yelp
Everything we got was good but nothing great. In other words, it was a reasonably satisfying meal that doesn't leave me craving more. The burger ($15) is veerrrry small but pretty juicy, though not too flavorful. I added the pickled jalapenos for $0.50, and I would highly recommend this or another add-on. Tasty and helps add flavor. It comes with a side of fries, which were pretty standard. Actually, the side of grilled chard ($7) was the best part of the meal. Great grilled flavor and a perfect side for a burger. Pretty good on top of the burger too. We also tried the chocolate cake for dessert. The cake itself was very dry, but it is covered in a molten chocolate sauce that is delicious. The molten sauce is then topped with a whipped topping, which is essentially flavorless but helps counter the dryness. Decor is dim and quite nice. Service was good, people seem friendly. It was packed on Sunday night, glad we had a reservation. We came in because we saw them on livingsocial - I'd say it's only worth it with a deal.

Joe F.

Yelp
A rock solid choice for dinner. Bucks is extremely consistent. I have never had a bad meal here. If you are looking to catch up with friends and have a nice tasty meal - this is the place. It is not fast nor is it cheap, but the food if very good and the service is great.

L S.

Yelp
Giving this "iconic" dining place one star is akin to committing a mortal sin. Nevertheless went with a party on a Weds eve. I knew the menu was extremely limited, lots of fried stuff almost every entree came with fries, and this would not have been my choice. Spouse had a veggie burger for $20 plus while I had a $14 lettuce wedge and $16 fried oysters, nominally appetizers. The veggie burger was ok, nothing special, the lettuce wedge was well - a lettuce wedge with some blue cheese dressing a bacon bits, pretty mediocre. The oysters which were sufficient to be an entree were decent. i washed it down with an ice tea. The service was abysmal. For these prices, no one came to refill the ice tea nor the water until we were about done. There is no complimentary bread/roles. i had to demand the check as I had the audacity to not order desert. So this mostly mediocre food and experience totaled $70 including the tip. Save your money, there are so many better places which will not rob you blind with poor menu offerings. After all when Sitsiema reviews these places, he doesn't pay the bill.

Amber B.

Yelp
Buck's has been a great place to get takeout during quarantine. Easy to order online, great pick up procedure, and most of all delicious food. Highly recommend Buck's.

Tom W.

Yelp
Was looking forward to eating here based on reviews. Big disappointment. I had the halibut and my spouse had the scallops. Both were bland and my lemon cous cous side was icy cold as if just taken out of the refrigerator and dumped on the plate and spouse's Brussels sprouts were equally cold. Way overpriced.

M V.

Yelp
First timer here at this fabulous restaurant. The service is SPECTACULAR. The staff is on point! The management is magnificent (Cortney)The food, the food is scrumptious. It's a must try! We had the sea scallops, the steak, soft shell crabs, the halibut. YUM, YUM, YUM!!!!

Jason E.

Yelp
Apparently I am out of the loop because I had never heard of this place. Maybe it's also because anytime anyone mentions any place in DC proper, I turn off because I hate driving in DC. But this place is worth the trip. And I was pleasantly surprised at the ease of parking! We went to Buck's on a Friday night at 7, it was full but didn't feel crowded. That's one of the first things I noticed about this place. They don't pack people in the restaurant like cattle. Lately it seems some restaurants have former airline executives as managers since, like airplanes, some restaurants try to pack as many people in as the fire regulations legally allow, leaving little room to walk to the bathroom or enjoy your meal and company. Not the case at Buck's, excellent!! The interior was cool, somewhat tent cabin-like, with long curtains and large wood beams. Also very camping-ish wood tables. The lighting was very nice as well, dim, but not so dark you can't see the people you are with. For the first course, we had the iceberg wedge salad. I wasn't sure about it at first when the waiter mentioned it had a horseradish-based dressing, but it was very mild and very very good. Even better than the salad, though, was my main course, the trout. I am not a fan of fish, and I have never ordered fish in a restaurant before, but it sounded delicious and it was. I don't imagine it was exactly healthy, since it was smothered in butter, but damn that was one tasty fish. For dessert we had the chocolate cake. It was good but a little dry for my taste. I prefer a very moist cake, this was more properly cooked, so I can't fault the restaurant for that. It was good. We were probably in the restaurant for over two and a half hours and not one time did we feel rushed. The waiter gave us ample time to make our selections, the courses were timed very well. Some restaurants try to get you in-and-out so fast you can hardly enjoy an appetizer before the main course comes out. Once again, Buck's the exception. All around, Buck's is fantastic. Forget what you think about the restaurant industry when you go to Buck's. Buck's is the way things should be. Well-trained staff who are not overbearing, are polite, and provide a completely enjoyable experience. Oh yeah, they serve awesome food too.

Yelp
I think a two.five would be more fair, but I just can't bring myself to give them a three. The good: relaxed, low lighting, relatively good service, interesting atmosphere, local, pretty well conceived menu. The bad: way too expensive for what you get. My dinner companion (hereafter: DC) considered ordering a starter salad (at about 12 bucks) as her meal, but luckily chose not to. We split said salad as an appetizer and it was pretty tiny. She had a burger, thought it was good but not great. I had the camp steak; it had a good flavor and was cooked pretty well, but it was relatively tough. We both noticed that the fries were a) good, b) sparse. I think that they counted out nine fries on to each of our plates. If there had been something else on the plate (sliced tomatoes, a vegetable, etc) it wouldn't have been so bad. For her burger, with no cheese or anything, just the burger, to be 14 dollars was pretty nuts. I could see going back here with a group (as i said, good atmosphere and all), but I really didn't leave feeling like they were a truly great restaurant. It is a shame, because I had always heard and read such good things about bucks.

Yelp
The atmosphere at Buck's Fishing and Camping is warm and inviting. You feel like you're being welcomed in a friend's home for a lovely Sunday brunch, especially after seeing the long communal table -- I love sitting there on a date under romantically dimmed lighting. I pretty much order the same thing every time I'm there: succulent marrow bones (for $10, they give you three) and their perfectly crusted, perfectly wood-grilled sirloin steak (worth the $39). Juicy and delicious. Parking in the back is free (a rarity in DC), service is always very good (maybe the other Yelpers had servers on an off day, but you need to report it to management so they don't make the mistake again, and give them a try again, especially if you like the food), and the menu includes seasonal items, so it's always new and interesting.

Yelp
Had a fabulous dinner in a modern "glamping" environment! Bucks has such a great ambiance with private tables, bar side dining and a long communal table in the center. Noordeen our server was delightful. I was too busy starting on my fish and chips to take pictures and my pal had the burger with fries. Both terrific choices. It is located near the bookstore Politics and Prose so plan on making a reservation to guarantee a table - although we walked in and were seated right away.
