Buddy's Chicken & Waffles

First time experiencing this place yesterday and as soon as you walk in, the smell is amazing and you’re welcomed with a friendly smile by staff! I ordered the Cinnamon Toast Crunch waffle with one spicy and one regular chicken strips. Seriously, THE BEST chicken I’ve ever had in my life and I’m really picky about texture. It was deliciously crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The waffles are made to perfection and both items together are the perfect blend of sweet and salty! It was everything a pregnant gal like me could ever dream of and definitely will continue to dream of! Will absolutely go out of my way to come back to this establishment!

Three things about this place: 1. You will never have a better waffle in your life. From the savory southern cornbread to the lush banana cream pie, the waffles are pillowy, lightly crisp on the outside, and full of flavor. 2. The chicken is INSANE. Delicious flavor throughout the meat and a breading so good I picked the tiniest crumbs off my tray to get in every last bite. 3. Fantastic service! Super friendly, great conversation, wonderful staff. Don't trust any review less than five stars on this place, Buddy's has it all. We'll be back soon!!

My husband and I decided to stop in, and we were not disappointed. The chicken is juicy, tender, and seasoned to perfection, the waffles are fluffy, and the varieties are many, and the vibes are immaculate. Love to support Tacoma businesses! Keep up the great work!

We've been hearing a lot of great buzz about Buddy's for awhile and decided to check them out. We are glad we came in, for sure! Ordered the Cinnamon Crunch Toast Waffles with Chicken and they were fire!! Ordered one piece of chicken in regular and one as spicy. Both were really delicious. The hot honey sauce and house BBQ are perfection. The BBQ sauce, in particular, had nice balance of vinegar, spices and sweet flavors. Also ordered the two-piece chicken with fries basket.The fries were really seasoned well and tasted good albeit a bit soggy ( I am in the "Crispy Camp" when it comes to fries). Overall, a very tasty dining experience. Keep in mind, Buddy's is quite popular, so be patient as they were fairly busy.

Drove 2 hrs to come here after the hype. Reviews are speaking the truth. Limited parking but the food is worth the wait. Buddy’s sauce is a must. Wife said the waffles are soft and amazing. Definitely would love to have one in northern WA. 11/10 🔥

So first things first come early. This place gets packed, and everything is made to order. What does that mean? That means it's not fast food, you will be waiting anywhere between 30 mins or more. Is it worth it? Absolutely! We came in and it was super busy. The music was bumping, the staff was super helpful. I'm not gonna lie it was actually really awesome. We ordered the cheddar bay waffle special, the strawberry shortcake waffle, and a side of fries. The only thing that was not so fantastic was the lemonade (I am also old and get acid reflux which I should've known better)but that really didn't take away from how soft and pillowy the waffles were. If you like your food with some heat get the spicy. All in all 10/10 would come back and try more items!

Long time follower of this restaurant, first time visitor. The food did not disappoint. We tried the deluxe chicken sandwich, not spicy. The chicken was cooked well and very flavorful. Fries were on point. Parking was also surprisingly good. Can't wait to return.

I have been wanting to go here for a good, long while and it was everything I hoped for and more. The chicken was crispy and tender, the waffles and fries were delicious and the sauces and strips were so good. Bonus points for having Bluebeard Coffee as well. I will definitely be going back often. All of the staff were so nice and seemed to genuinely enjoy working there, which I appreciate.

Food was great. Big portions and fresh. The only reason they don't deserve 5 stars is that the small container of sauce was nowhere near enough to meet my dipping needs. I understanding charging extra for containers of sauce to go, but I was eating in and had to eat two of my three strips dry.

Fat, Juicy and Wet! We love, love, love this place! We usually get DJ as our server and she's phenomenal. The chicken is so moist, juicy, and they're no shy on the seasoning! I like the spicy chicken, while my husband like the original flavor. Husband is obsessed with the Cornbread waffle! I think it does pair perfectly with the chicken. We also took our friends here, and all got the cornbread waffle, and everyone is now hooked.

Okay; I will definitely have to say that this spot might be my new chicken and waffles spot! The place is very home-y. And there is side parking and street parking! I love a spot that can make jokes! I thought I had left a review for Buddy's during my first visit but I saw I didn't so I am going to remedy that as these guys deserve all the glowing reviews. I first visited Buddy's when they were at their previous location, thanks to Side Piece Kitchen mentioning how awesome Buddy and his food is. We tried their strawberry lemonade, strawberry shortcake waffle, banana pudding waffle and 2 pieces of chicken. Once we put in the order, we got our order after a few minutes of waiting and a nice female employee dropped it off to us while being very pleasant. It's been a few years since then and I heard that Buddy got his own location which is awesome, as I also follow him on social media as well. We saw that BECU was partnering with Buddy's to give customers a free waffle to celebrate Black History Month so we wanted to do a quick visit as we also wanted to get some other food and drinks as we did errands. I got the red velvet waffle and a mango sweet tea while my boyfriend got the cookies and cream waffle. I can tell you that their quality and consistency is still stellar and the customer service is friendly and helpful. The mango sweet tea was also refreshing and not too sweet. I love their new space too as it isn't too bright but light enough to take good pictures. They had plenty of seats and tables as well as a huge Connect 4 set up. I loved the choice of music as it was just chill vibes while we enjoyed our meal. You also can just leave your dishes and trash at the table when you leave! We weren't sure if we were supposed to clean our own table or not but I asked our cashier who kindly let me know that we can just leave it there and they will clean it up. Also, after we ordered, there was quite a line afterwards which is great as they truly are one of the best businesses in Tacoma!

It was a Sunday when I happened to be in the area of the restaurant. Chicken and waffles sounded lovely to me so off I went to find it and I found Buddy's. I arrived too late for the Special which was a Red Velvet Waffle. So I got loaded fries with Hot Af chicken, a mango lemonade and a Cinnamon Toast Crunch waffle with the salted-caramel syrup substitute. TENS across the board! I loved the fresh, crisp the slaw brought to the fries and the sauces incorporated into the dish. FANTASTIC! I liked the waffle I wish I could've experienced it crisp and fresh out the maker but it was still very delicious. The staff were all very nice and attentive. My order was packed with care and utensils and for that I am grateful. I will definitely be back!

Great atmosphere, super friendly staff. Music was kind of loud, making it slightly difficult to hear the girl behind the counter. Food was amazing! Bring some wet wipes We both got the chicken sandwich, husband got it spicy and I got the original. Mouth was starting to catch fire by the end, so keep the in mind if your allergic to spicy foods A slightly more substantial bun on the chicken sandwiches would be nice. Regardless we will definitely make this a regular stop when we are in the area. They are hosting a comedy night at the end of January!

Finally got to eat in at Buddy's after eating takeout once from the new location and once at the last ghost kitchen and once or twice at the original ghost kitchen. My husband is a big fan of the cornbread waffle and hot AF chicken. I got the hot chicken today and will probably go back to the regular next time but it was great with the house made ranch. We got there a few minutes after they opened at 10 and we were the first ones in the door but I am so glad we got there early because they had a line as we got our food and so we would have otherwise waited longer for our food. The waffle batter is really good and the chicken is crispy without the inside being dry- just right for a tender! We will definitely be back. The space is spacious and clean.

We had an incredible experience at Buddy's! Arriving around 11an on a Sunday, we were pleasantly surprised by how smooth and welcoming everything was. After ordering at the front counter, we were given a number for our table and found seating for our group of three right away--a lucky start to our visit! When the food arrived, we couldn't believe the portion sizes--they were huge! We ordered the strawberry shortcake and banana cream, both of which were fantastic. Each comes with two pieces, but we added an extra piece for each, and it was well worth it. We also tried the Buddy's sauce and hot honey, which were amazing and paired perfectly with the chicken. By the end, we were completely stuffed and still had leftovers--an incredible value for the price! The staff were incredibly kind and patient, especially since it was our first time. The parking situation is great, and we noticed they even host comedy events, which adds to the charm. Buddy's is a true hidden gem in Tacoma, offering delicious food, reasonable prices, and a fantastic vibe. We'll definitely be back!

Wow this was a cool find! The service and food were outstanding! Small and humble dining area, but the chicken and delicious waffles and sandwiches were memorable. I'm book marking for the next time we're in Tacoma. There was no spice left out of the seasoning in their crispy chicken, and the strawberry shortcake and cookies & cream waffles were huge and pretty . Who needs syrup messing up the work of art created. If you like chicken and waffles, which are so rare to find; go here! The Cali Waffle House has nothing on this spot.

We have been here several times and each time it has been great. Service is friendly, food is delicious and fairly reasonably priced. I have tried a couple of different things and don't have just one to recommend, although my absolute favorite is their corn waffle, just yum! We have tried a couple of special waffles, chicken, and chicken sandwiches. All great. The hot isn't really that hot, but the seasoning adds a great change in flavor over the regular. They have several delicious dipping sauces, unfortunately their syrup is fake (corn syrup) but would be awesome if it were real maple. If you like French fries, definitely get them here. While they are your standard crinkle cut potatoes, the seasoning makes them addicting! Highly recommend.

OMG! What a treasure to find in an otherwise forgettable part of Tacoma near Lincoln HS.. My wife and I split a lunch here today. The recommendation from the counter worker was the special: Cheddar Bay Biscuit Waffle with Chicken. It was everything you'd expect. Tender chicken, perfectly spiced and breaded with a buttermilk tang. The waffle was the star of the show. Balanced mix of sweet biscuit batter and savory herbs and cheddar cheese, with a garlic herb butter. It was heavenly. We'll definitely be coming back here.

I've been following Buddy's Chicken & Waffles for a LONG time on social media, cheering them on through all the many travails of opening a brick and mortar. Schedules have yet never aligned when we have come across the water to try theses legendary waffles. Until now. The first day of 2025. The day I FINALLY get to go to Buddy's. First things first, these are the nicest folks you could ever hope to meet. We were greeted cheerfully and given fantastic recommendations on our orders. C had the blueberry waffle with one piece of spicy chicken and one regular. D had the spicy chicken sandwich. Me? I'm going to need a benchmark dish before I go off road. I had the cornmeal waffle with two pieces of regular and a lemonade. Let me tell you, it was worth the almost two year wait. The chicken was the most tender I've ever had. The coating was flavorful and just the right consistency. The waffles? Lord have mercy, was it delightful. The consensus from my family was there dishes were equally as tasty. D was especially pleased with his fries that had a Cajun seasoning, perhaps? We will most definitely be back to start working our way through the rest the menu. Dessert waffles next time! Important to know that Buddy's is cash free. Bring a card if you want a taste of waffle perfection. Also, this might be the cleanest restaurant I've been to in a very long time. There is pride in this place. P.S. whoever the artist is for the pieces that line the dining room? You are amazing. Absolutely wonderful.

Listen. I can't stress enough how badly you need to eat here. Chicken and waffles are one of my favorite dish. I have eaten at almost every other places that serves this dish and this is so much better, by such a drastic amount it's insane. The corn bread waffle is what I had and it was perfect. I got a mix of spicy and regular chicken and both were great. Their sweet tea was great. The young lady with the red hair was so nice and helpful. Do your self a favor and eat here, and only here, for the rest of your life.... PS. If you get the spicy chicken don't breathe in the dust on the chicken it WILL act like pepper spray

We have been to Buddy's Chicken and Waffles a couple of times now and both times were wonderful! The chicken is Halal style and brings a new spin to the restaurant scene in Tacoma in which it needs. The first time we got chicken with the hot recipe and it was really hot but very, very good! The second time was the original recipe flavoring and it was excellent as well. They have very good sauces like their hot honey and honey mustard for example. The French Fries are wonderful as well... a nice seasoning to them! On to the waffles... oh, they are are so very good also! We got a banana waffle the first time and the second time a strawberry waffle. Both fabulous! This is one of those restaurants where you really can't go wrong with what you order and to me that is a sign of an excellent restaurant and a real treat of a dining experience!

This place must be the spot to be! The line was crazy but worth the wait. We are always looking for new places to try especially when we travel. There are a few different options making it hard to choose. Do you want savory or sweet, what type of toppings would you like? What kind of sauce do you feel like trying? Parking was a little weird but we figured it out after a drive around the block. Glad we gave it a try, we would definitely come back when we are in the area again.

Finally got to try the new location and it didn't disappoint. Clean and spacious with about a dozen tables, good music and art. I think the chicken keeps getting bigger so got to bring home left overs. Hot, fresh chicken and waffles were brought to the table and devoured with delicious peach lemonade. Can't wait to go again!

Was passing through the area and stopped here for lunch. We tried the Cinnamon Toast Crunch waffle and the cheddar bay biscuit waffle (weekly special) with both the regular chicken tenders and the spicy chicken tenders and the hot honey. The dry rubbed spicy tenders actually had quite the kick to them. The CTC waffle was good, but a little too sweet for me with the syrup. I'm more of a savory person and I really enjoyed the cheddar bay biscuit waffle, so yummy! I also ordered the mango sweet tea, which if you like southern sweet tea, you will probably enjoy this. It was far too sweet for me, but I should have known better. The person working the counter was very kind and the music was great, although a little loud.

I didn't expect it to be as good as it was. The food is AMAZING I got the blueberry waffle with chicken & a mango sweet tea. the chicken is DELECTABLE, the waffle is so fluffy and delicious too, the blueberries were so fresh. The mango sweet tea is so amazing as well, super worth it. The staff is soooo nice as well, and the place is super clean, love the music and everything in there. Honestly a great experience and I hope they get booming business because they deserve it

Once again Instagram made us do it! We ordered the chocolate chip waffles and chicken and an order of chicken and fries. They have a system down where you pull up, use a QR code to order and then call once you're there. We were already there so we didn't know when to call or do we stand there? We tried calling the number but it went straight to voicemail. Have no fear though! You will get a text once it's ready and someone will come out. The food was piping hot but we came from Auburn and didn't want to drive back and eat. We probably could have sat in our car out front but decided to go to Fred Meyers a few miles away (the parking lot has a lot of suspicious activity but that's for a different review). The chicken is good! Juicy and fresh. The fries were tasty but had tons of seasoning. The waffle was yummy, but not super crisp as I would have hoped, a little on the soft side. The sauces were "ok". Overall glad we tried it but I think we will give it another shot once they have a dine in option.

Food was phenomenal! Best chicken and waffles in Washington state and probably second best chicken and waffles I've had outside of Roscoe's in SoCal. The waffle was fluffy and soft. Rich red velvet flavor and the icing was the perfect addition (not cream cheese iirc) The fries and chicken were seasoned perfectly. The spicy chicken tenders were not only spicy but had a smoky and tasty spice on them as well. They were a 7/10 on the heat scale for me but I would probably warn white people to order the regular. Fries were some of the best I've ever had and definitely beat out any "Cajun" fries from any other place that offers them. The space was really cool. Seems they host a lot of community events which I love! Definitely check this place out

Love this place. They now have live music and the chicken was awesome. Fries were really good too. Super friendly staff and I would definitely come here again. I had the chicken tenders and waffle, and my wife had the chicken sandwich. The slaw in the sandwich was awesome.

Some of the best chicken and waffles I have tried! I ordered the spicy wings with the cinnamon roll waffles. Loved how juicy the wings were and they also had the right levels of spice. I love the creative flavors for the waffles but the cinnamon roll was a tad too sweet for me. Maybe next time I will try the strawberry or cereal flavors.

I swear every time I have buddy's chicken and waffles I'm left speechless. Truly the best fried chicken ever! Love the cinnamon roll waffle. Buddy is always so nice and friendly! I can't wait for the new Tacoma location to open! Get yourself some amazing chicken and waffles.

Well, it's time to break the streak on 5-star reviews. Based on what I read about this place, I expected a near life changing experience. What I got was a less than impressive meal in an environment that was about 3 times as loud as any eatery needs to be. Everyone inside was yelling, because the music was so ridiculously loud it was the only way to communicate. There is ambiance and atmosphere and then there is unreasonable decibels and this was the latter. For the food, it was a solid portion for the price, For $15 it was 2 tenders and fries and each tender was about the size as 2 pieces anywhere else. My issue was the quality of the meal. My fries were hot and dark, but not crisp which leads me to believe they were either cooked a while ago, or cooked at the wrong time or temperature. The tenders had a lot of rib meat which made them chewy and tough. The taste was ok, but nothing special. They didn't need salt, but the brine could have been better. I had one regular and one spicy and the spicy one just had a dusting of spices that added heat, but no flavor. Everyone here appeared happy to work here, but there were way to many people working. This is a place that appears could run with about 4 people and there was more than double that. They you should cut back on payroll and turn the music down.

Food was good! Well portioned and cooked to perfection! The sweet tea WAS ON POINT! Service was amazing. We got there first thing as they opened, the restaurant is spacious. The chicken was well seasoned and the sauces are delicious. We were very happy with our visit today and will definitely come back to try a different waffle.

Been scoping out this place for a while now and finally checked it out. Placed an order around 11am--with the earliest pick up time at a little after 1pm. We opted for a Banana Waffle and some Hot AF chicken. I do agree with a lot of other reviewers that the waffles definitely need some crunch factor, they were a bit too soft for my preference. The icing used was overly sweet for me as well. So not to impressed by the waffle itself. The Hot AF chicken was more like Paprika AF...not spicy, but very seasoned. In combination with the ranch, it was good. The outside waiting area can get pretty busy as there are only a few designated spots. I would return again for the chicken, probably not a waffle though--unless it is possible to request a crispier waffle in the future. A three piece with fries is definitely enough for two people to share.

I enjoyed the new sit-down location. My buddy & I visited their new restaurant for a wonderful meal of Chicken & Waffles. I have to say it was much more enjoyable than eating in the car. The spicey chicked was extra spicey today and the maple syrup from the waffle helped cut the heat perfectly. The banana cream chicken & waffle was a big hit, which is my friend Kathy's favorite. I think I'm going to take everyone visiting me here for a good time. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

Pretty solid place! We ordered for pickup and when we arrived a tad early, the food was already ready. There was plenty of open seating (like at 4pm on a sunday) but we opted to take our food to the park nearby. The chicken was moist just like the other reviews have said. I personally like the spicy chicken which isnt too spicy really, though my bf liked the og better. Waffles are solid! Not sure theres anything spectacular about the waffles themselves but all in all was a nice meal.

Cool Grit City vibes! The food was amazing! Chicken was freaking bomb, waffles bomb! We can't wait to go again! Absolutely delicious, you can tell Buddy doesn't skimp on ingredients and his quality it top notch.

Chill spot, funny welcome sign. We got the cornbread waffle and the bananas foster waffle! Both were very good and you get plenty of food! The cornbread waffle really felt like a hybrid of the two. The chicken was tasty too as well as Buddy's sauce.

Came to Tacoma for my kid's hockey game and came here afterward for lunch. Great food, nice staff. Will come out of my way to stop by when I'm in Tacoma again. Chicken was juicy, so tasty, and you get a big portion. The waffle we had was perfect and I want to come back to try all of them. This is a really good place to go with your friends and family for great food and fun conversation.

I'll admit, chicken and waffles really isn't my thang. I like chicken, I like waffles, just not together. But Buddy's still keeps me coming back. Their menu is super creative, so I can enjoy chicken and fries and finish with one of their amazing sweet waffle creations. Buddy's also does a great job engaging with customers on social media. Watching him grow from a virtual kitchen to a brick-and-mortar is impressive, not many can pull that off. My only complaint? They're always out of cocaine.

This was definitely different, you order online then they come out and give you the food. I don't think you can sit and eat anywhere it's more like grab and go. Ordered -the chocolate chip waffles + chicken combo -blueberry waffles +chicken combo It was cool, nothing life changing. breading was falling off the tenders but the chicken was still juicy. Waffle was crisp and fluffy and did what it needed to do. What turned me off was their syrup, not sure if it was homemade but it was not giving sweetness that I was expecting and it kinda threw me off. I mean ya, try it why not lol it's a fun concept.

We've been customers of Buddy's since he was over on South Tacoma Way for takeout only. The chicken and waffles are to die for! I'm from the south and had a hard time finding chicken fried correctly. If you're from the south you know not a lot of folks get it right around here. Buddy's gets it perfect every time. I'm also a big fan of the Banana waffle AND, even though Buddy says he doesn't like it himself, the cinnamon toast crunch waffle. It's so good! The restaurant itself has a friendly and welcoming vibe (and great music). We highly recommend it to everyone we know!

Always trying new places with my kiddo. This place smelled amazing even before we walked inside. Food: Strawberry shortcake waffle With chicken tenders (perfectly seasoned, tender, and moist chicken) Got an homemade sweet iced tea And Lemonade From the sign to the food, not bad at all! My only con from all the pros are; The music was kinda extra loud, wish I had more fruit with my fruit waffle, and I wish there was a sign that stated what us customers are to do. Walk in to the front desk and order your food first. Wait for your drink, grab your number, grab a sauce if you want, then sit down. This isn't a grab and menu and sit down place, but everyone's very nice and respectful.

This place was on my list since I heard a lot of good things about them. They are currently working in a kitchen and you have to order online and they will bring it out for you. I originally ordered the banana brulee chicken and waffles for 11 o clock pick up. When I got there, they just started my order so it took another 10-15 minutes wait. This was fine, until I realized that they gave me the wrong order. I got blueberry instead. So I called and the people were super nice and gave me a side of the banana waffles and also gave me a free mango lemonade drink. The chicken was big and good. The waffle was ok. Too soft for me. I prefer crispier waffles. I do like the flavor profile though. Since we had extra waffles, I came home and air fried them up and they were a lot better (100x better). So I think if I were to order it again, I would probably grab.l just chicken or a sandwich instead. If I were to grab waffle, I would bring it home and air fry them first. Good portions for price as well

Great food. Horrible attitude. We drove over to Buddy's from Silverdale for breakfast a couple Saturdays ago. Waited outside for a few minutes till they opened at 10AM. When we walked in, me and my wife were second in line, behind two guys. The crappy music was so loud it literally hurt my ears. This isn't a "get off my lawn, old man!" type of situation, either! We're huge music fans. But we're also fans of hearing ourselves think, talking, not having our eardrums bleed, etc. This is how it went for the two guys in front of us... "I'll have th.. and. waf.. chic..." The girl behind the counter: "What? Excuse me?" Eventually they screamed loud enough for the girl to understand their order. My wife was next: "Can you please turn the music down a little?" Girl: "What? I didn't hear you." Wife: "Can you please turn the music down, we can't hear a thing?" Girl: "Nope." Wife: "What? I can't hear you. Can you please turn the music down?" Girl: "Nope. That's how we like it." We walked out and took my wallet (and propensity for tipping 30%) to Shakabrah. It was lovely! The employees were friendly, the food was fantastic, and we enjoyed... you know... having a conversation over breakfast. Buddy's serves up some killer chicken and waffles and, sadly, a huge side-dish of attitude. No more driving to Buddy's on Saturday morning for me.

The food was good although their spicy isn't spicy at all. Their portions were great which is nice since the food is a little pricey. Only downfall is that it took them an hour to make our food or at least give it to us and you only get 1 sauce for free which isn't enough for the amount of food you get.

PEOPLE!! YOU MUST TRY THIS AWESOME!!! CHICKEN!! So juicy and delicious!! Our first time here. Ordered online and it was brought out piping hot and with a beautiful smile from the establishment! Daughter had the buttermilk pancakes and waffles. The waffles are tender and delicious! I can't rave enough about the chicken! So moist and juicy! She had the bourbon maple and salted caramel syrup and they are THE BOMB!! I had the chicken sandwich which was just as delicious as my family's selection. Slaw, spicy Soooo YUM! (The homemade ranch is delicious added to the sandwich!!) (If you don't like spicy don't get the buddy sauce. But it's not hot at all, just wonderfully spicy) Run don't walk to this wonderful eatery!! It is soooooo delicious!!

OMFG!!!!! Where do I start, the best chicken and waffles I've ever had in my life, both the chick and waffle were so flavorful and moist. I legit almost shed a tear when I took the first bite, my soul left my body for a second. I drove 45 min just to try this and I'll do it again! 10's across the board, no notes!

WOW! Hands down best chicken and waffles!!! Sweet tea, check! Lemonade, check. Service is amazing. Prices are fair! And the artists fun and inviting. I had the banana cream pie waffle and original chicken, all the details thought of and presented YUMMY!!!
