Bernadette’s Bar Owners to Debut Downtown LA Diner in 2019 - Eater LA

"The minds behind Downtown’s craft beer bar Bernadette’s call their new Downtown LA venture Buddy’s. They’ve also labeled it as a fast-casual diner, and it’s all right next door to their hip beer bar. Buddy’s is due to open in March 2019. Owners Jim VanBlaricum and Michael Hentz own Bernadette’s, and the two plan to make Buddy’s a comfy 1960s/1970s throwback joint with wood accents and vintage style, just like the bar. The food is all about sandwiches, burgers, melts, salads, small bites, and a fried chicken sandwich called the Birdadette. Buddy’s will be open for lunch, dinner, and late night with a weekend brunch as the kitchen gets its bearings. Buddy’s will easily service hot food to Bernadette imbibers as well." - Mona Holmes

This place was not crowded and I cannot figure out why! The food here is amazing and man those are the type of fries I crave when I’m leaving the club on a drunken night! The burger was not he biggest burger I’ve ever had but it was great tasting I’m a huge guy so bigger is better for me! Although they did load me up with fries! The staff here are super friendly, they all seem chill and laid back! Two thumbs up on the service and taste👍🏾👍🏾 My only critique would be needs a bigger burger or maybe I need a smaller appetite 😂😂😂

Buddy’s is a cool neighborhood spot. The menu is simple and the restaurant has a retro diner feel to it. I ordered the cheeseburger combo with tater tots. The cheeseburger was ok. Mine was a bit dry but it had decent flavor. The tots were pretty good though. I’d eat here again. I’ll probably try something else on their menu though.

Buddy's menu is not long, but the quality of what the make is great! I am excited to have a place with both a good and reasonably priced milkshake. The staff is friendly and helpful. The dining area is clean and neat. The music is loud enough without being too loud. We've gone four times since they opened and have had a good experience each time. Welcome to DTLA, Buddy's!

Do not go my appearances. This place has some of the best fries and burgers around. It is not greasy and clearly good ingredients. From the outside it looks like a cross of Denny's and IHOP but go inside if you are a burger person.

Very friendly employees, including the kitchen employees. Great food! I recommend the fried chicken sandwich for sure. Don’t usually leave reviews, but had such a positive experience that I decided too.

I can dig it. One of the better burger joints in a city that has the best in the world. The classic burger here is quite good, the beer selection exceptional for the area. Yet I cannot say the burger was the best in LA. Yet if you have a hankering for a burger and cannot be bothered to deal with the hype parade, this thirty seat spot will satiate your craving.
