The Best Gay Bars In Atlanta

"Bulldogs in Midtown has been an iconic part of Black gay Atlanta for more than 40 years. And the line out the door on weekends confirms this bar is still very much the place to be. Things are casual and fun here with stained glass windows of bulldogs hanging above the bar and a giant back patio that houses a TV and plenty of space to relax. Drinks are heavy-handed (which is fine by us), and weekly specials like R&B nights and $2 tequila shots get the dance floor going. Thankfully, there’s a kitchen with a rotating menu to help us out when we need to regain our senses. " - juli horsford

Atlanta’s Best Gay Bars | Eater Atlanta

"Bulldogs has been the spot for Atlanta’s Black gay men for over 45 years now, making it one of the city’s oldest gay bars. It’s friendly, reliable, and a bar that’s seen so much Atlanta history, it should be considered a landmark. Bulldog’s has a small dance floor which is usually packed, along with a bar outside. The drinks are strong and the vibe inside is always welcoming. Regulars here are fiercely loyal and proud of a place that continues to bear witness to an ever-transforming Atlanta." - Robbie Medwed

I went for drinks. Service was nice. Music was nice. I went mid day so it wasn't crowded. It was nice.

Google
I enjoy this place. The cover fee is cash only and the bar is cash preferred. Fun vibes. I’ve only really seen one bartender here and he’ll prepare about 10-15 customer’s drinks at one time before sale. Everyone seems to enjoy the cocktails though. Go and support this historic bar. I don’t remember the patio being as brightly lit as when I used to go 15 years ago, but now it’s super bright.

Google
I’m from Atlanta and this only place we got left that reminds me of OLD ATLANTA!!! Strong dranks! Patio! Dance floor and people ACTUALLY DANCE! Food be busssssin! And some of the finest dudes be there lol. I love it here FOREVER

I visited this bar while traveling, arriving around 11:30 PM. Assuming the bar would close between 1 and 2 AM, I purchased a few drinks. However, the staff informed me that last call for alcohol was 12 AM, and the bartender promptly served my drinks before shutting down the establishment six minutes after midnight. Consequently, I was forced to discard my recently purchased drinks. When I politely inquired about potential after-hours venues in town, I was met with hostility and verbal abuse by the security staff, who yelled and cursed at me, instructing me to leave the premises. The host and younger security staff member exhibited unprofessional and disrespectful behavior. Overall, my experience was unsatisfactory, highlighting the need for better-trained staff who can provide decent treatment to patrons. It was disappointing to hear nothing but good things about this place only to have a negative experience being treated very poorly in the end.

Google
Beware of their "lottery". They will refuse to cash out your winnings. Been in here three times and they keep changing the rules and making up excuses on why they can't cash it. It's a scam!

Yelp
This place is an absolute vibe! I really enjoyed seeing the diversity of age groups and minimal judgement. I'll def be back next time I'm in Atlanta!

Yelp
As soon as I walked into this joint they pat you down which is probably normal with these types of joints. 2 groups of people immediately began brawling over who knows what. Not a very friendly scene in my opinion.

Yelp
Drinks are good. Always packed. Smells like ass and vomit. But you will leave stumbling Lol

Yelp
Bulldogs was an amazing and pleasant surprise here in Atlanta. We started out our road trip from Miami and made a pit stop in Atlanta. After starting our night at Blakes and feeling like social outcasts, we stopped here and felt right at home. The bartender Tonya was amazing and made us feel right at home. Thanks to Bulldogs for making us feel welcome. Looking forward to visiting this bar in the future, and for any out of towners- make this your first stop!

Yelp
On vacation with my wife. We came On a Tuesday. They have $2 shots & tacos. They Hennessy margaritas is everything . Dee customer service and personality is amazing

Darryl V.

Yelp
First time in Atlanta, friend took me there, unfortunately for me not a place a would recommend if looking for a Saturday night of house music, reminded me to much of a straight club with a gay attendance and the DJ tracks of rap and top 40 radio sounds. Nice patio, but a lot of smoking and even experience smoking indoors as well, unfortunately not enforced.

Kenneth S.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and drinks. A great place to go and chill. Enjoyed just sitting and people watch .

Crystal G.

Yelp
I had a wonderful time with my friends who were in town...my disappointment comes from the female security at the back door that charged me $40 to get in and then charged others $20...when asked why she did that she said because I'm a female and this is a gay club!!! So confused...I then stood there and watched her charge other men some $40 some $20 but only put the $20 in the drawer!!! This was so disappointing and just low. I want my money back because it's the principle of the matter.

Yelp
They had my ratchet music playin. They had fried everything. The drinks were cheap (compared to the surrounding bars and restaurants).and it was poppin. This is not the place you go for your Taylor Swift fix.

Yelp
This bar is a bit divey. I went on Friday night and went early around 9. The crowd was a bit older and the music was terrible. Im a huge RNB music fan and the music the Dj was playing Ive never heard of. However, as the night progressed the crowd got younger and the music got better. Its a 5$ cover and i recommend bringing your cash with you or you will be subject to a pretty high Atm fee inside the bar. Overall was a great expereince and I hope to return whenever Im in town.
google avatar

Reginald J.

Yelp
Ok listen folks, I'm going to be real with you COVER. Free 4-9 on daily / $3 9p to close on mon-thur / $5 9p to close on fri-sat / $2. 9 to close sun. (holidays vary) DRINKS start at $3 4p -8p & 11p - close / happy hour $2 8p - 11p (1 drink is like 3, ask for lenny in the back). If your looking for uppity young preppy whites dudes, this may not be the place for you. But if willing to hang out with a more mature urban vibe black men, PRESTO. this place is not for everyone, but like Clinton said about Trump. "Keep an open mind, and give it a chance" althogh he can go fuck a duck.

Yelp
Bar tender was very friendly and tentative. Felt safe. Pretty spacious dance floor and they have fooood

Yelp
My first time at Bulldogs I loved it! Cover charge $10 cash only! I was able to have my fanny pack with no problem. The food was sooo good $10 for wings and fries and many other options on the menu and the DRINKS!!!!!!!!!!! Bomb strong and Very inexpensive!!! $2 vodka punch $2!!! I don't know if it was that price because a guy was buying them for me and he has a membership and perks 20 year vet... great crowd very welcoming and friendly. I met two amazing down to earth guys that I will definitely come back to visit!!! It was such a Great experience I will definitely be back also if you leave and want to re-enter you have to pay the cover charge AGAIN!!! Shout out to the LGBTQ+

Yelp
Cool bar. I was there Wednesday night, karaoke night. Everybody was super friendly. Five bucks to get in and reasonably priced beers.

Yelp
We love bull dogs! I know that this is typically considered a gay mans bar so I really wanted to write a review so people know how inclusive it is! We are a lesbian couple new to the area and go there often. The bartenders (shout out to Craig and lance) are awesome and treat us with kindness and respect. The crowd is fun and karaoke night with Germaine is a blast! I am so glad we checked it out when we first arrived as now it is our go to! Thanks for being awesome-- Tara and Erin
google avatar

Waneisha A.

Yelp
Because they don't do pat downs but also don't let people (assumingly straight females) with purses in. Btw my purse was a small wallet. Some girl even threw her purse away when all they had to do was open the bag and check it! I had dollars to give to the business but oh well

Yelp
Hello I need your help on finding a patron that frequents BullDogs, on June 9 2018 this person robbed a 56 yr old grandmother in her home. All we have is a first name "Don" he is black male about 6 ft , has grill and Marijuana leaf tattoo on throat. Please contact Det Reese Atlanta PD Robbery Division. We need a last name or any info. He was violent and robbed 56 yr old women. Please help

Yelp
The drinks are incredible and the hospitality is awesome!! Tonya the manager made sure we had a great time.. My partner Wayne was extremely pleased with how she welcomed us and was down to earth. If you are visiting Atlanta this is the place to be!!

Yelp
Bulldog's has always been my go-to bar in ATL. I am from a city where smoking is not allowed in any bars, so anytime I would pay bulldogs a visit I would have to endure the smoking. I recently was there visiting and they no longer allow smoking inside the club!!! Yes, that's right smokers now have to smoke on the patio. Thank YOU management for making this fantastic decision!!

Lovelyprettychar ..

Yelp
This place was super packed when we visited! Definitely a gay club mostly men but I still felt welcomed(think I was the only lesbian there that night) Drinks were delicious and cheap . Music was a vibe . I'll definitely be back !

Marlo B.

Yelp
This club is not a good representation of the LGBT+ community. As someone of the gay feminine expressing experience I have been a few times where I was made to pay more money for entry than my more masculine appearing gay friends. Last night I knew that I would never return. My friend and I were standing in line when we saw a sign that said advanced entry line was 20 for men and a whopping 40 for women! Just as soon as I read that I heard the security turn away two women because there is a NO PURSE policy! I happen to be wearing a purse and my friend and I looked at each other and walked out of line. To be a LGBT establishment they are really discriminatory to those on the more feminine spectrum. I went up the street to a non lgbt establishment and received more respect.

Yelp
Where do I even begin!? By the time I leave, my legs are hurting from dancing the night away, I'm sweating in places I forgot I had, I smell like a tobacco smoking old lady and feel like a sex God! -- but boy do I have a ball! I love Bulldogs because it's all about the dancing for me - the boys always come to serve and I've got breakfast, lunch and dinner! Strong drinks, thumping music (house and mostly hip hop), which I love! Bulldogs is the ONLY black urban gay club in Atlanta n for that alone, I love it! Thursdays is the premiere night here but Friday and Saturday I've been as well! If you ain't about the ratchedness, stay home! Bulldogs is a straight up, get in your face, mix n mingle, see n be seen, twerk or die type of (mostly) hip hop party! Yaaassssss I love it!!

Labron E.

Yelp
This has always been my favorite hang out!!! I love the drinks, the music and my favorite bartender is Miss Tonya! She's down to earth and gets my drink right everytime without me having to remind her what it was. Everyone is professional and the food is pretty good.

Yelp
This place always brings me to a younger who? Me. Simply put, great for inexpensive strong drinks, dancing, mingling, and a whole lot more. This place is a hot spot for locals and out of towners. It features an outside patio, dance floor, video games, darts and pool table. Great vibes ...Thursday night is the HOT night of the week.

Yelp
As an out of towner, I do value the bars and clubs of Atlanta. Bulldog's is one of those bars that I do enjoy going to when I make my bi-yearly visit to Atlanta. From the moment you enter and the cigarette smoke hits you (Bulldog's allows smoking indoors as well as on the outdoor patio), you know that this is truly a dive bar. There are no fancy video screens, no fancy glasses for the drinks. It is just a lot of men, and a lot of strong liquor. Move through the bar towards the back and you will find another bar and the pool table. On the weekends there are a lot of people waiting in line to play pool and a lot more people watching everyone else. The back bar is cash only. Keep moving past the back bar and you'll come across the patio, where a lot of people hang out, especially during the summer months. Guys go to the back to smoke, play cards, socialize, make out...that sort of thing. Average price for a drink here = $6.00. An experience at this bar = Priceless.
google avatar

Andy S.

Yelp
We came here upon a recommendation from a local at another bar. This was a Thursday night. The drinks are really cheap here. I ordered a whiskey and water as well as a bud light and the total was just $6. There is an outdoor section. There were people playing spades there. In the inside, there is a small dance floor, where people were dancing. There is also an old arcade machine with lots of older games like pac man and more obscure games.
google avatar

Matthew S.

Yelp
As a gay black man I was severely disappointed in the lgbt nightlife in Atlanta. Blake's leaves so much to be desired and Ten is a ghost town if you're not on the patio. Bulldog's is exactly what I've been missing. Black gay culture. I felt so at home and I felt so much love from bartenders and fellow guest. I never felt so accepted in an Atlanta establishment. I normally have to go out of town. The drinks were cheap and people were actually dancing on beat. Yes. On the beat. At Blake's the gays are challenged when it comes to dancing so it was nice to see people who could follow a simple 2 count. The dance floor is small, but there's enough room to move around. The outside area is a break from the routine so you can cool off and relax. There's also a bar outside and a table we're I saw people playing spades. We paid $10 to get in, but I'm not sure if that's the price every night. I hear Thursdays and Fridays are the times to go here. I went on a Thursday and had to call out of work the next day because I had so much fun. I definitely recommend checking this spot out if you're visiting or just looking for a good time!

Yelp
I Went To Atlanta For My Birthday A Few Weeks Ago & Heard That Bulldogs Was The Place To Be. They Have A Parking Area. That Was A Plus Until I Had To Wait In A Long Line Outside In The Cold To Get In A Bar That Should Have Been Shut Down For The Amount Of People They Allow Into The Bar To Only Be Packed Inside Like Sardines Without Much Space To Move Throughout The Building. I Attempted To Head To The Bar To Get A Drink But It Was Nearly A Shoving Match To Move Anywhere. I Thought Id Be A Complete Fool To Attempt To Buy A Drink Just To Have Someone Knock It From My Hand Once I Stepped Away From The Bar. I Stayed About 30 Minutes Before Deciding To Leave. I Think I Had Much More Fun In Line Outside Talking About The Weather.
google avatar

William J.

Yelp
This place sucked and the bartender was an A-hole. I had reservations about going to begin with given what I had been told, however it was 3x's worse than I had expected. Don't waste your time here!

Yelp
amazing food and service. the music was a vibe! very cool crowd! brunch bunch in full effect!!!

Yelp
Went to bulldogs with a few friends yesterday (Tuesday). One of our friends were turned around due to his pants. We were puzzled as to why because he only had on sweat pants. He didn't break any dress code however we watched a group of girls walk in with booty shorts and a tank top. Anyway....we went to the back to enjoy he karaoke and we had a good time. Good selection. The back room board stated that all Mexican beer was 3$. Another friend asked for a Mexican beer and the bartender charged him 5$. We pointed to the special menu and he advised it was for the front bar only however it was specified on the board. (Be careful of this or just ask questions first.) Otherwise it was okay.

Darius B.

Yelp
I recently hosted my book party there. Tonya took great care of us. She helped to make the event so much fun. And the strong drinks and good ass music took it over the top. Thanks!

Kourtney W.

Yelp
I am going to be honest the men is very rude to the women that comes in that will hit you won't let you get by if you trying to go somewhere else they are really rude so women be ready
google avatar

Robert B.

Yelp
I just really think this is a fantastic place to go for people like me "if you know what i mean". It is really hard to find people that im interested in at other places, because you never know! Most of the time when i approach some one, at a normal place, my radar is just off. This bar/club place isn't totally out there, its more of a relaxed atmosphere. Like a normal bar. that's why i love this place so much! 5 stars for being a great grungie place, that makes my night more nights ;)
google avatar

Theo A.

Yelp
My favorite bar in Atlanta by far. The drinks are stiff, the vibe is grown, and the staff are beyond friendly. Really a great neighborhood spot! A decent mix of ages, predominantly African American, boys night out is always a pleaser at Bulldogs!
google avatar

Jeffrey R.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite gay bars in ATL that I've discovered so far. It's more of a black urban crowd so I feel more at home here. 1st thing is parking. Not much space for parking by the bar, it's really small and uncomfortable. I also wish they would find a way to get rid of the homeless people that hang outside the parking lot constantly soliciting sex and money..really annoying! Before you go in you'll be checked by security and after 9pm it's a $5 cover charge. Once inside the bar it gets better the bartenders are pretty cool and attentive and they have a variety of beers and cocktails you can get that usually ranges from $3 to $12 . The age range of guy here varies, a good mixture of young and older guys.I usually meet and chat up with a guy who offers to pay for my drinks lol.The DJ mainly plays R&B/Hiphop music and they may throw in some house or reggae every now and then.I find that Thursday Friday and Saturday nights are the best nights to go. More of a crowd and the dance floor is poppin after 10 o'clock it gets live! They have an outside patio where you can smoke, chill chat and booths where people play cards dominos etc. They have a little mini arcade in the bar where you can play games and a pool table. My only gripe is I wish the bar was a little more spacious. On special events like pride weekend or new years it can get VERY PACKED in there. Overall it's a cool spot that I go to a lot.
google avatar

Daija G.

Yelp
I have been living in atlanta 8 years always supporting the lgbt community. Last thursday I decided to go to bulldogs for a few drinks. I understand bulldog caters to the men of the lgbt community but it does not excuse a sexist manager! The manager called me a dyke after the fact they over charged me at the door! Ten dollars but men 3$ after being so rude charging me twenty dollars for two drinks less then 8oz a piece my last round of drinks went from 9$ to 12$. Not only does his staff and bouncers know he is a rude, sexist, sissy! I will never step back in that bar
google avatar

Ty G.

Yelp
If you want to find a good place to watch UGA Sports, this place is a fantastic University of Georgia Sports Bar. It is a great bar for anyone who like the University of Georgia Football Team. Excellent wings. Go Dawgs!!
google avatar

Alex N.

Yelp
Bulldogs has always been a great spot to attend during Pride! I actually would come every so often when I was a local however the crowd is generously mixed with age range! I would say that the Thursdays that they are known for would be the "best" day to go on. Service is great and he drinks are STRONG!! What else can you ask for from a bar? **waits** Nothing! A classic!
google avatar

Dionne G.

Yelp
Where the eclectic gay community get's their dance on. A typical Friday night highlights include a couple hundred black gay/bi men dancing to hip-hop along with a few gay-friendly women. The club has a small dance floor, billiards area, and an outdoor patio. There's a small cover, well worth it for the cheap drinks that await you inside. This is club is one down to earth big party with a casual dress code.
google avatar

Juan P.

Yelp
A place you can always have fun, usually go on Thursday nights for college night. Drinks are strong and dance floor is always popping.

Brian C.

Yelp
Having been to several gay bars and clubs in Atlanta, Bulldog bar has got to be on the lower tier of bars. Drinks are not strong, the bartenders and people running the bar seem to have a strange attitude about them. Basically, very unwelcoming. On top of that patrons (even on a weekend) are not hot. I would skip this bar and head to the rest. Waste of time and money.

Miguel M.

Yelp
White people apparently aren't welcome here. I've been here several times because I enjoy the music and the stout drinks. The past two times I've been I got ignored at the bar and there was a patron, both times, that had something negative to say about me and my skin color. "Don't he know this a black bar?" "I hate how he thinks he can just come in here. He's doesn't belong." I suppose the excellent times I have had prior were just isolated incidents.

Brandon D.

Yelp
Best music/DJ I've heard in a while, pretty good drinks. Just a lot of old queens lol, but I still enjoyed myself.
google avatar

Diane I.

Yelp
there's a cover to get in but its well worth it. super cheap drinks once inside and amazing dancing. they play great music and the dance floor is small so its definitely intimate. definitely a fun time!
