I had a decent lunch here, the Buffalo Burger was good, and the Corned Beef on top was fine as well. I think they were probably both under seasoned though, as I like some pepper, especially on my Corned Beef. The Fries were super good though, both the curly and the garlic were excellent. The staff were friendly and the price was a little high, but not that high for what I think was quality materials in the city. I'd swing back by if in the area.

one of the worst places i have ever been in my life. the food tastes as bad as it looks. $30 for a steak that turned out to be a low-grade cutlet. Apparently all these good ratings, reviews and evaluations are fake!

Low key steakhouse vibes. Staff was very helpful and friendly, unfortunately the New York steaks (one sandwich) were a little tough. Medium and medium rare... would go back and try the burger!

My first time reviewing Bullshead Restaurant but not my first time eating at this homley (British definition) environment. Upon entering you are up close and personal with the raw meat display. Behind the glassed meat display is the busy grill and grill master. If you enjoy a great smokey tasting burger then you are in for a yummy treat. The fries are exceptionally good simply because they are crunchy and medium well. The ambiance is old school and filed with sports memorabilia. I appreciate the customer service because I am chatty and they--are chatty. The salad bar is 5 stars as is the rest of the food offerings. Today I indulged in a Chocolate/Hazelnut cake and I also give it 5 stars.

The management of this restaurant has been bought from previous owner's, unfortunately its not nearly as good. Very disappointing, my grilled salmon was way over cooked & dry. My husband's burger was delicious though, We sure miss the previous Chef & the mushroom soup they use to serve. Gone are the good ole day's 😌 the minestrone soup was delicious

Great neighborhood place for steak. Simple and unpretentious. Good steaks and burgers, with a salad bar. Folks here are super friendly too. Loyal local following and I can fully understand why!

Love this place. They havent disappointed us with their selection of burgers. Bought my husband here, and he had the Bison burger. So juicy but didnt taste different than a beef burger.

While the initial greeting was a bit delayed, the friendly service quickly picked up pace. Our order was taken promptly, and we were impressed by the efficiency of the kitchen staff. The Food: 1/3 lbs Sautéed Mushroom Burger: The burger patty was cooked to perfection, juicy and flavorful. The sautéed mushrooms, although a bit overcooked, added a rich, earthy taste. The extra mushrooms were a nice touch, but could have benefited from a bit more seasoning. The curly fries were crispy and well-seasoned, a delightful side dish. 1/3 Peanut Butter, Bacon, Pepper Jelly Burger: A unique and daring combination that surprisingly worked. The sweet and salty flavors of the peanut butter and bacon were balanced by the tangy pepper jelly. The French fries were crispy and golden brown, a classic side dish. Kids' Plate: The mini corn dogs were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, a kid-friendly treat. The French fries were a hit with the little ones. Overall, they offer a satisfying dining experience with a focus on classic comfort food. While there were a few minor hiccups, the friendly service and delicious food make it a worthwhile visit.

So glad to finally try this spot! I've been walking by for months and finally found the night to try. First of all - everyone who we interacted with was so friendly and service was incredibly fast. They were so kind helping us with a high chair. The vibes are old school and I loved it. Didn't get a chance to dive into the salad bar but will next time. I had the garlic burger which was perfectly cooked and delicious, my wife had a cheeseburger. We also got a burger for our daughter off the kids menu. 10/10 will be back again

Wanted fried chicken and this was the closest pace in my neighborhood. It was a half a chicken so great value. The breast was not dry, so all pieces were very crispy on the outside and tender/juicy on the inside. I also tried the fish and chips using cod. The fries were excellent and the deep fried cod was overcooked though. Tasty but dry. I think if the cuts of fish were thicker, it would have been just right. Bullhead is known for their steaks, so I realize I'm posting reviews on their other non-speciality menu items. Service was complete and quick. The ambiance is diner like, not posh, but they never were.

Doesn't look like much on the outside or maybe even the inside, basic is an understatement. If all you care about is aesthetics go somewhere else. If you want a fine piece of meat, great service and a superb deal, WELCOME TO BULLSHEAD!! I won't bore you with specifics but the ribeyes are great, the salad bar is an unbeatable deal and service is fast!! When I am in the area. I will be sure to check this place out again.

Loved the food and service. This place has been around for 30 years and I cannot believe today was my first time here. My kids and I shared everything! We wanted to taste the entire menu lol... we had the ribeye which was the perfect cut and cooked to perfection. It came with onion rings and a salad bar. We also had fried zucchini sticks, mozzarella sticks, buffalo wings and curly fries! Kids came in hangry and left happy lol... Thank you to Grace who served us. We will definitely be back!

First time at this restaurant & best believe I'll be back! It's not super big inside, but the quality of the steak is super good. The service is so good and they serve the food pretty fast. Parking can be hard, but the food is really good

This has the best Bison burger I ever had. The service is great with a local San Francisco atmosphere in West Portal. I like the ambience of having my favorite sports teams on display on the wall.

Wanted to pick up some steak for mothers day and found this restaurant to be relatively affordable (especially since we wanted to eat at home rather than eat out). This place had a lot of reviews for their burgers compared to their other dinner entrees, but overall very positive. We ordered the ribeye, full rack of ribs, and filet mignon. They have a lot of options for sides, we opted for 2 baked potatoes and 1 onion rings. It also came with soup or salad. We got 2 chicken noodle soups and 1 salad. They told us we would be given a box for the salad bar. Since it was a big order and a special day, I expected a longer wait time. When we arrived, the kitchen is right in front welcoming everyone with enticing aromas. The salad bar is towards the back and I was surprised by the variety of items they had. The potato and pasta salad tasted homemade and fresh. The box they gave was also quite large. If you dine in, it's unlimited. They were also very kind and quick in restocking if they noticed something was low. We only waited a few minutes while they were finishing up our food. We noticed they had a lot of take out orders. We went home and began to eat. The meat was cooked perfectly medium. The ribs were tender and falling off the bone. They were very generous with their portions. Everything tasted delicious and we were so so impressed by this restaurant. Definitely a local favorite and I cant wait to come back and try their burgers!!

I ate here for the very first time for dinner last Friday with a friend of mine because he kept raving about how good the hamburgers were here. I really wanted to try a buffalo (bison) burger because I had never eaten buffalo meat before. I was really looking forward to eating my Buffalo Western Burger 1/2 LB after I ordered it. Our server was very helpful and friendly. I really enjoyed my very large buffalo burger and I finally realized that buffalo meat really does have a bit of a gamey taste. The onion rings for my burger were very huge and delicious. I recommend this place if ever you are in this part of West Portal.

Always perfect burgers and service! still amazes me that almost everything is made on a grill the size of a love seat!

(This review is written by my young daughter) Mom wanted to go out to West Portal to get something to eat because she wanted to try this restaurant. We went in and the vibe was fine, it was chill, the ambiance was like a country western sorta thing. The staff should get paid more because when we went there only one person was waiting tables. She had to rush around and take orders and she was really nice. The food was ... really good. I got an Avocado and Bacon Burger with added cheese and all the trimmings. I got some regular fries. The fries were fine but they needed a little more salt. The burger was juicy and it was transcendent... I'm just saying it was amazing. Everyone else in my family got burgers too, except my very handsome dad. He got the Fish and chips (onion rings) and he kept stealing my fries. They were the best burgers I have had - so far - in West Portal. Plus, it's in a convenient spot. After you stuff your face you can walk it off and get ice cream at Eazy Breazy!!!

It's been a while since I got this burger. I decided to order the Sauteed Fresh Garlic Burger and added provolone cheese. The burger was cooked to a perfect medium rare. You can't go wrong with any burger you get here.

Bullshead's steak was mentioned as one of the top steakhouses on SF Eater and they were not wrong. Had the rib-eye cooked medium and it was done perfectly. The steak was perfectly seasoned and grilled. The good quality meat kept the steak juicy. Tried the Challenger burger and it was not anything unique or special. Burger patty was a bit dry and nothing was done with the bun which caused the burger to be more dry. It reminded me of a burger you'd get from a backyard bbq. I can see why their steak is highly recommended though. I'd come back just for that.

I'm super irritated with the fries I just received!! I asked for chili cheese fries & I got some crusty ass cheese fries! It's pouring down rain otherwise I'd take this right back! I also ordered grilled onions on my burger & didn't get that either. My food was cold & I wouldn't recommend ordering fries to go...ever. I give them 2 stars cuz the meat on the burger IS good but they should also find a new distributor to get buns from cuz them was kinda crusty too. I just spent $28 to not be very happy Ok I'm revising my review cuz I just could t let it stand so I went back & they were very nice & made me fresh, delicious fries....i still want them to get new burger buns cuz then the burger would be perfect

Just ordered dinner from Bullshead. The Bacon avocado burger had burned bacon; completely black ash. The siracha burger came as chicken sandwich with no siracha. We used to like Bullshead but it's really gone downhill.

This place is one of my go-to local favorites. Whether you want a hearty burger or a charbroil salmon and veggies you will not be disappointed. They make delicious soups, a different one everyday. Everything I have ordered from Bullshead is consistently yummy and the staff is friendly and fun. It's definitely a small family oriented place where your kids can get mini corn dogs and fresh fries.

Hotdog for $9 and Philly steak is $20. Portion is good, a little bland for how pricey it is. Ribeye was about $38. Over all 6/10. Service was decent.

I have wanted to try these burgers for years but somehow it never happened before. On Labor Day I finally dragged my husband inside past the vintage storefront (I'm being kind) and we sat at an unpretentious table. All felt dubious until the menus arrived and there was an amazing variety of burger choices including bison burgers which we both selected. Charbroiled exactly as ordered and just delicious. The toppings were just right with cheese, fresh mushrooms and caramelized onions and the fries were crispy outside and fluffy within My husband ordered the sweet potato fries which were excellent. This is THE place for burgers from now on. Nice servers and chef too.

Great service I love their chili fries and their big burgers Grace is very well known with me and my father she treats us like family not patrons the restaurant interior is very clean as a sports bar feel to it and I just adore the artwork and miners & warriors memorabilia can you get to see the food cooked right next to you well, maybe not the food but you can see him cooking on the grill

The ambience and service were fine and I really liked the soup of the day. When it came to the actual meal the steak was skillfully cooked however it was essentially unseasoned. The fries, also unsalted. It honestly made for a disappointing experience when I have to add table salt to every bite of a $40 steak.

I've heard so much about this place but I've never been. Classic San Francisco restaurant with old school vibes that your dad may remember, back when San Francisco was still a proper City. I ordered the blue cheese and mozzarella Burger. When I first opened it all I saw was the mozzarella cheese and all the toppings but I couldn't find any of the blue cheese, when I took my first bite all the flavor came out. It was delicious and and every bite was just as good as the first. James and the whole team were friendly and just added to the classico San Francisco diner vibe. I'll definitely be back again.

This is my go to spot for a great steak! The service is always friendly and the food is always good. Perfectly cooked steaks & burgers. Onion rings that I crave too often. Been coming here for 20yrs now and I'll be back again soon. Thanks Bullshead!

The second bad review. Why I went back it's been years. Well the same complaint I asked rare. And emphasized rare. Well those imbalances wrecked it again. I mean not medium but well done. The ridiculous part is my partner asked medium and got rare. WTF. Really do you read the order even when the person taking the order is supposed to emphasize that. So I could have brought it back but I didn't want the idiocy of what would come next. I'm really never going back and anyone reading my reviews should pay attention. As I only give 1or 5 so when it's 1 fuck them. If they can't make a rare burger after asking how you want it I can imagine them wrecking a steak. T

I hate to say but this place is not the same as before. By before I mean with previous owner. Apparently there's a new owner. To be fare, it's been a few years since I've been here, but the high quality burgers were just fair. Fries were good, but when you're spending $25 for a burger, fries and drink I expect a little "wow". The 1/3# patty seemed small and did not have that deep rich beef flavor. The side salad bar for $6 was ok. Kinda what you'd expect for an additional $6. I think it was $12 if you ordered the salad bar outright. Definitely not worth that! Sorry, but I'm taking my burger business elsewhere. Can't comment on the steaks.

The burger was pretty good with the egg and gravy. The sweet potato fries were fried to perfection with a nice crisp to it. I would return here in the far future if I am around the area and I may try something else instead. My only gripe is the pricing as this was over $20 for take out. There are a lot of other spots in the area that you can get much better value with great if not better tasting burgers. I am not saying this burger was not great but I just don't feel good paying over $20 for a burger unless it's super gourmet.

Omgosh what such Delicious burgers which have such flavor, are cooked to perfection and are so tasty! The salad bar is wonderful & so many choices to add to your meal The buffalo burgers are lean and tasty as well ! Also their coleslaw is homemade & very good! I prefer the good old cheeseburger with their great fries !!

Pretty nice place for a burger. Menu isn't large so you know they focus on what they know. We tried the bison burger because of their facts of the menu that it can decrease your LDL cholesterol. I got the cheeseburger and curly fries. Hubby got the bacon, peanut butter and jelly pepper (on the side) and he was satisfied. Service was great! Super friendly waitresses and checked on you just enough that you didn't feel smothered nor neglected. They even anticipated my root beer refill before I asked! Standard S.F. dinner prices: 2 burgers with Curly fries and a soft drink for about 50ish bucks. Will comeback again. Btw, reception sucks for my att cellphone service but it's not their fault. It's att.

RIPOFF ordered 1/3 western burger with fries for takeout. Opened the container to find enough fries for an infant. The meal was $19. Not worth it

We've not been back to dine here in a very long time. The place is so old inside that it's 40 yrs overdue for a remodel. It's still popular among locals who live nearby. The bathroom is gender neutral, clean, but old. I tried the bison cheese burger, which was good. Nothing special. My onion rings (addition$1 charge) were pretty good. Hubby had the regular cheese burger with fries. His fries were good and didn't appear to be the frozen kind you buy at the supermarket. Condiments are in the table except they bring a squeeze bottle of Mayo to you. In the private room next to us, a group of ladies were having lunch. I watched a lady sitting near by having the salad bar choice for lunch, it didn't look good to me. Another lady had the fried fish and I heard her remark that it was very good. I never liked seeing their batch of cooked bacon in a container near window. It makes me wonder how long it's been sitting there. Wait staff is nice.

Food is delicious, and you get a good amount for the price. Parents loved the steak and salmon! Dad devoured it all. Service is nice and friendly and actually surprisingly pretty quick for very good tasting food. They display their steaks and burger patties so you know you are getting good fresh meat.

Been coming here for years but something was different. We picked up our burgers and except for cheese there was NOTHING on them. They give you packets for your condiments..I hate those packets. In a baggie was a small piece of limp lettuce, enough onion for maybe 1/2 a burger and one tomato slice. For an $18 dollar burger....Bullshead you are going to have to do better.

We don't gatekeep here... This spot is legit. Don't be fooled, the pictures don't do these burgers justice. It was our first time at a Bullshead and we were surprised by the friendly service and tasty burgers. The flavor was there. I ordered the corn beef burger for St Paddy's day and was not disappointed. The burger was stacked high with corned beef and topped with a fresh tomato and some crunchy water (lettuce) Lastly, the restaurant walls were adorned with warriors and niners gear...perfectly no frills decor in my opinion. I will definitely be back here soon as I am salivating just thinking about that burger as I type this review. Keep up the great work, Bullshead SF!

The burgers here are out of this world! Might I mention, they're also the size of my head. Super juicy, cooked to perfection, & beyond filling. The fries (both regular & sweet potato) were hot & crispy. We ordered takeout but, the service was friendly & the ambiance inside looks very unique. Looking forward to a dine-in experience next.

Come for the burgers! I've been here a few times and have to say their burgers are so good! They have beef, bison and turkey burgers, along with chicken sandwiches, steak, lamb chops, ribs, fish and chips and fried chicken. They have a salad bar too. They cut and prep the meat onsite so you know it's fresh. You can see them on display when you first walk in. My favorite items to order are a bison burger and onion rings. The bison burger is juicy and well seasoned and came with fresh lettuce, tomato and onion. The onions rings are battered, crisp and not greasy. The fries are pretty decent as well. The BBQ ribs were just okay and leaned towards being dry and overcooked. The decor is nothing fancy but it's clean. Service was friendly and attentive. Portions of the food and drinks were generous. Prices are reasonable. They do a good amount of takeout and delivery business and during my last visit seemed to be doing well with in-person dining as well. Bullshead is located next to the West Portal Muni station. There is plenty of metered and free parking nearby.

Good bison burgers! Great service. Good for kids. Good options for steaks, too. Good chicken noodle soup.

If you miss those salad bars of the 70s, Bullshead STILL has a great one! With everything from beans to eggs to artichoke hearts, and sunflower seeds, it is a meal unto itself. Run don't walk and order the salad bar. They also cook your burger just right too, and have choices of beef, turkey,or bison. And a juicy steak is fairly affordable. The retro decor is fun, and you can watch the game in one room. Don't miss this secret hole in the wall near the west portal station.

I can certainly understand why Bullshead gets such good ratings. Let me add my experience there. Yes, it is sort of San Francisco dingy, and a bit dark and broody inside, but hooboy, the food and service are terrific! My lunch order was the Hot Reuben sandwich ($9.95). It comes with a side of French fries, cole slaw, cup of soup or sweet potato fries. I opted for the cole slaw, and truth be told, it was creamy and delicious. The sandwich was man-sized, overflowing with swiss cheese, meat and cabbage, on thickly sliced rye toast, and just plain fun to eat. A lunch like this for ten bucks in downtown San Francisco? You bet ! I ordered coffee and it was robust, flavorful and the perfect antidote for the damp, foggy weather just outside the Bullhead's door. The server's name is not on the receipt, just her number: 000004. She was very attentive and provided coffee warmups without being prompted. Great service ! I look forward to my next visit here, and maybe will sample bison meat.

We've been frequenting this place for years. And, it's become a family tradition to come for dinner after trick-or-treat. I always have the buffalo burger (bison?). Overall, the food is consistently good, not amazing and not fancy, but hearty. We always get the buffalo burger because of the claimed health benefits and it tastes like beef (close enough). And the salad bar is great, fresh and good variety. This place is a solid choice.

The chicken wings are outstanding. The wings are breaded and deep fried. They come out piping hot and super crispy. I really liked the breading and crunch of the seasoning.

House ground burgers with a quick to go service. You can choose between 1/3 and 1/2 burgers and they have a small variety such as bacon cheese burgers, cheeseburgers, etc. Nothing crazy like fried jalapeños with cheese wiz and pickled onions or anything. This is a standard burger joint. So why the 3 stars? Though the meat was fresh it just was NOT seasoned. Like they just took a plain patty and seared it. Like where the salt, pepper, or spices? It was a perfect medium rare but honestly tasted so plain and they hardly put any ketchup on it so I felt like I was doing a meat diet to lift weights and bulk up or something.

Wide menu. Lots of burgers including turkey bison and non-meat options. Fantastic option rings and fries. Plus other meat main dishes on the other half of the memo that we did not even explore. Wonderful service. Try this place.

The Bullshead is an authentic neighborhood grill of exceptional quality hamburgers, Buffalo burgers and others grilled items, as well as a small buffet . It's old style traditional but excellent nonetheless .

The food was delicious but what moved me to write this review was the truly stellar service we received tonight. It harkened back to a time when there was more care put into customer service in San Francisco....I was really moved by just how thoughtful the lady who helped us was...She paid such close attention to make sure I was never out of water in my water glass and she just couldn't have been kinder. I wanted to say thank you to her here. I loved my experience there and will happily return to this establishment!

Fast, easy to get to, good fries, large portions. Feels like a no nonsense place where you can just eat a big delicious burger. So happy I live nearby!
