Yelp
(Dined 10/28/23 SA @ 12:00pm and once before): I understood the bun... but what about the blanket!?
I was in attendance for Paperback Brewing Co.'s 3rd annual Halloween celebration with a limited edition t-shirt and a pint of beer for $15.00, when I also opted for some food at their own personal residence kitchen, Bun & Blanket Food Truck. I've tried their food once before and was satisfied with it, so I figured I needed something to soak up all of the suds I planned on throwing back on this lovely afternoon. Would I ultimately be won over by their buns, or would it be a snoozer affair that required a blanket to sleep on!?
QUICK BIO
"Co-founded by a classically trained chef and his business partner and childhood friend, Bun & Blanket came to life in 2022 as the two foodies imagined how to adapt some of Los Angeles' most popular flavors into fusioned burgers. Once the menu was developed, it just had to be shared."
PURCHASE
Southwestern Diablo Burger ($15.00): A special Halloween-themed burger made with a juicy meat patty, Oaxaca cheese, and chipotle topped with a chipotle slaw, cilantro, and serrano chili chimichurri all between a black bun, this was a somewhat messy meal but well worth. Although it had some spiciness, I wished it was spicier. And beware... the food coloring used for the bun stayed with me for a couple days if you knew what I meant! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=f5H5pvLObipzQO8fqPfLsw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw
Chili Cheese Fries ($9.00): A tasty basket of crispy fries (as long as you ate them quickly enough) topped with chili, cheddar cheese, sour cream, onions, and sliced jalapeños, I enjoyed this but wished there was more topping coverage of everything. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=rAahRG3i1cA-Kxhl5yiZsw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw
SERVICE
A friendly man greeted me as I approached the truck, he quickly took my order, gave me a buzzer, and about fifteen minutes later my buzzer was blowing up like a disco ball letting me know my grub was ready. All was straightforward and greatly appreciated - thank you!
PARKING (FREE)
Being a food truck, they were at the beck and call wherever the event was held. In this case, the event/residency took place at Paperback Brewing Co. with plenty of free parking along the main drag of Magnolia Ave. and all nearby streets (including San Fernando Rd.). Another option was a driving service like a bus, taxi, Lyft, or Uber (no nearby Metro train station) - 'nuff said.
ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE
Your standard self-sufficient food truck with an exterior food menu, separate order and pick up windows, a small area for condiments, napkins, and utensils, no designated seating area except for the brewery itself, and natural lighting was prevalent during the daytime while minimal electric street and truck lighting glowed at night. There were no TVs nor any background music except what was playing inside the brewery. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=GiIrgDorCthKv4sWxHmMJg&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw
ATTIRE
Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops.
OVERALL
Bun & Blanket Food Truck was a tasty time for my second go-around, and I would definitely consider them again. My only fear would be their limited menu and eventually trying everything over time. The prices were a tad on the higher end, the food and portion sizes were good, and the service was easy and straightforward. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $24.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice...AMEX! 4.0 STARS
