"Tim Carman sampled Vietnamese noodle bowls at Bún DC. He enjoyed a crab noodle soup but had issues with the bún, noting that the rice vermicelli noodles never soak up the house-made nuoc mam sauce. Carman commends the sauce for its powerful umami flavor but advises diners to stick to the soups." - Gabe Hiatt

"DCist’s Rachel Sadon stops by Bún DC, the brainchild of Phi Nguyen and Minh Chau and created to help Nguyen’s mother finance her dream of building a small Buddhist temple in her hometown. Sadon notes that this the same team behind Pho Viet, and says that the culinary experience this newer Park View spot feels more varied. While pho with snails isn’t on this menu, Sadon says there’s plenty for those who are feeling an adventure — like pork blood cakes and chicken livers and gizzards. Sadon also notes that the tomato broth is where it’s at." - Alison Baitz

Delicious food. We got cat fish congee, sticky rice appetizer (which was more like a meal), salted lemonade, and pork belly bahn mi. The congee has a sweet coconut flavor to it, which gave it a dynamic flavor. Im not sure I would order it again because I prefer savory congee. My favorite dish was the bahn mi, the bread was perfect and they have the proportions right. I give four stars instead of five mostly because we were sitting in a nearly empty restaurant and the server was rushing us. It felt unwelcoming unwelcoming. I would go back for the bahn mi and to try their noodles dishes. I'd also recommend trying the salted lemonade on a warm summer day.

Obama’s Dish 🇻🇳 Bun Cha, a little known Vietnamese dish served in Hanoi, gained worldwide fame after Obama and the late Anthony Bourdain on CNN’s Parts Unknown had an arranged dinner meeting in a street stall restaurant serving the dish alongside a few beers Several restaurants in the DC area began serving the dish (which I’ve never had in the SF Bay Area) and calling it Obama’s dish 1914 by Kolben and Hoi An were among the fancier restaurants offering the dish, but I decided to try the Vietnamese owned Bun DC, also owners of the long-time pho establishment Pho Viet in DC The restaurant was largely doing takeout but did have a few casual tables as well as several photos explaining the dish and it’s connection to Obama We sampled the pho (only cooked meat available so no rare steak on the side), as well as the bun rieu, but the bun cha was the highlight with fresh vermicelli, herbs and nicely grilled pork patties in a uniquely savory, sour, and slightly sweet broth that you add to the noodles It was quite delicious and I hope to find a version in the SF Bay Area soon 📷 Special #44 Bun Cha DC $15.95 ~ Eat like Obama and Bourdain, rice noodles, salad, grilled pork in a homemade dipping sauce / Bun Rieu DC Seafood $13.95 / Well done brisket and flank Pho $10.50 📍Bun DC (Washington, DC)

Hidden gem on the border of Columbia Heights and Park View. A true hole in the wall for Vietnamese cuisine. My favorite part of the restaurant is that they don’t include pho on the menu. There are so many other amazing dishes from Vietnam besides the typical pho and I’m slowly working my way through their entire menu. They opened up their front terrace for the summer with some seating and string lights making it a cozy spot to sit and slurp on some vermicelli noodles.

Just tired the Cháo Gà Xé Phay (Shredded chicken congee) for the first time, but it won't be the last. Pick up was quick and portions are generous. Simple yet, so so satisfying, can't wait to try more from Bún DC!

Nice mom & pop type of shop. Serves a lot of your classic Vietnamese dishes that you don’t often find too easily in America. Reminds me of Hanoi!

Best bahn mi of my life. The lemongrass flavor of the chicken was perfectly balanced with all the traditional vietnamese flavors. The addition of the (not overly sweet) hoisin was a nice touch. Wonderful vietnamese coffee as well!

Just discovered this place. It's great: authentic, delicious, reasonably priced, and generous with its portions. Their vermicelli noodle with caramelized pork is some of the best I have ever had, and their banh mi is great. I went here twice in two days after I discovered it in my neighborhood. My only criticism is that the quality of their ingredients could be better.

I am local. Love this place. We have eating here three times already. Loved almost every dish. The only concern we have has sausage sandwich. The amount sausage was a bit small, but I am sure it was an oversight. The sandwich was still good though. About to try the pork Organ soup and I am super excited.
