BúnBúnBún Review - Dalston - London - The Infatuation

"With two restaurants that bookend Kingsland Road, there’s no doubt that BúnBúnBún is phở mile’s no-brainer Vietnamese option whether you’re near Hoxton or Dalston. Their bún vermicelli noodle salads are an obvious choice and bún chả Hà Nội (pork sausage patties, grilled strips of lemongrass pork, and a crunchy, splintering spring roll) is a bowl of food we’ll never not wolf down. But that’s not all they do. Whole fried sea bass in ginger chilli dressing is tender and crispy, while their grilled meats, from beef to goat, are given the attention they deserve." - Jake Missing

Have dined here in the past which is what brought me back the second time. Well, what a mistake that was. Upon arrival, it took forever amongst the six people working there for someone to acknowledge me. It was 5:30p on a Wednesday, there was approximately three other people dining. After finally being sat, I was finally asked what I'd like to order which was the Spicy Pork and Aubergine Clay Pot Entree with white rice. Once served it, I was quite appalled at what I experience. The texture was completely horrible, it was this really gloopy consistency. The pork might as well been rubber erasers, as they were chopped up into TINY pieces and so, so fatty. The aubergine is was the only portion of this dish that was even edible. The 'vegetable soup' that came with the entree was essentially water with an entire bottle of salt poured into it. Not a clue how this place gets any good reviews, the waitresses/staff were so disinterested that I didn't even bother voicing this as I know it would have probably been met with an excuse. The decor is tired and the entire restaurant looks dusty and unhygienic. I don't think they've done a deep clean in the entirety of them being open.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is why I visited and it did not disappoint, it’s very casual, loud and fun. The set up is a few tables where people sit with people they don’t know - you don’t have to speak to them. The service was okay, I wasn’t a fan but it was the best they could do during busy hour I think. The food was delicious, the best pho I have ever had. The dry noodle dish was massive in portion size and I don’t recommend trying it. The chicken skewers were okay. I strongly recommend going for the pho and vibes !

Good Vietnamese joint right next to Dalston station serving high quality and good portion food. Mind you, it’s not the most authentic viet food but it is close enough :) I do recommend!

Definitely won’t come back .. starting with the price £££, the taste (well the food doesn’t taste at all) and service 🙄 really bad all around … the guy there is always in the phone and /or talking to the bar girl not even looking behind if anyone needs anything.. and we are only 3 customers. 10% service is already included in your final bill wish I found terrible as there were no service at all.

The food taste amazing and was really good, all that I expect from a Vietnamese restaurant. However I have been served by an extremely rude waitress who understood my order wrong and gave the wrong dish. She then started to be aggressive and kept accusing me saying “you got what you order. Speak up next time”. I’m afraid there won’t be a next time for me. Shame though as the food was really good.
