Best Dallas Burger Restaurants | Eater Dallas

"Burger House has served patties to Dallas-Fort Worth since 1951, and its success sure has something to do with the special seasoning used on those patties. As advertised, everything here is old-school, from the big, fat, juicy burgers to the logo. These patties are cooked on a griddle and served on sesame seed buns, with mustard as the default condiment. Add chili, cheese, or get your onions grilled. A plain burger will run you about $7, with extra charges for additional toppings. The atmosphere is best described as awash in vibrant blue and yellow, its thematic colors, and offering walk-up window ordering. You’re not here for vibes or service, you’re here to eat a damn burger. If you drive: Great news — all three locations in DFW have easy parking situations." - Courtney E. Smith

Dallas’s Best Classic Restaurants | Eater Dallas

"Dallas loves burgers, and Burger House has the ringing endorsement of staying open since 1951. Visit the original location near SMU or two others on Mockingbird and Addison. It’s been making burgers the same way for decades — you don’t mess with a winning recipe." - Eater Staff

I love getting a double cheese burger and a chocolate malt for 17$. The fries are good but I don't get them often. They offer combos and have a large menu. I always get drive-tru. Also, I refuse to support chains, so this is a great option.

I’ve been a loyal customer of Lakewood Burger House for 12 years, always making an effort to support this local business. Today they lost my business forever. Over the years, I’ve encountered some issues—like hair in my food and undercooked burgers—but I provided feedback to the owner, hoping to help them continue to improve because I truly wanted to remain being a fan. Today, I took my toddler there for a meal. They were busy like normal during lunch, but I had never struggled to find a table before. However, as I waited in line today, I noticed that larger parties behind me in line kept getting tables as they opened. After ordering, I searched for a spot but had no luck. At six months pregnant, holding my two-year-old and two drinks, I went back to the counter and let the man who I ordered from know there were no open tables. The man at the register simply shrugged his shoulders at me and continued taking orders—no offer to help, nor did he ask any other employee to help me. When I finally found a table, I sat down and got emotional. I wanted to leave, but I didn’t have the courage to ask that same employee, still at the register, for a refund. I truly wish Lakewood Burger House the best. I know they’ll continue to do well since there’s little competition in the neighborhood, but today, they lost a loyal customer.

It is insane that you guys have literally tripled your prices in only a year or two. Burger house has an always been a cheap and affordable place for people in the neighborhood to eat. Now you guys are charging 40 dollars for burgers and shakes and on top of that you guys don’t even bother to put enough seasoning on the fries and burgers anymore. I have been coming since I was a baby but now I won’t be returning ever again to this location. I’ll be going to Kellers since they are consistent with their prices and quality.

Google
It’s not what it used to be, I ordered a double cheese burger with grilled onions bacon, onion ring A kids burger with cheese bacon, fries and sprite My cup wasn’t sealed right it leaked out. Everything is extremely salty OVER SEASONED The sprite tasted weird like if the ice machine is never serviced I was really disappointed On top of that I don’t think the prices are accurate at the Speaker they gave me 2 different prices right before I paid nearly $30 for two burgers

I have been coming to Jack’s burger house since 1973. The original is located by SMU on Hillcrest road. I come to this location for ease of parking. The famous salt is what makes this place so special. My favorite is a chili cheeseburger and regular fries. The milkshakes are absolutely amazing. I will get a chili cheese dog as an appetizer sometimes. Also they sell Jacks famous salt to take home. Enjoy!

I like it! The service was warm, kind, helpful! Good old fashioned Mom and Pop Shop.

Google
It's been years since I visited Burger House, but it is still amazing!!! Burgers are delicious, only place I'll have mustard on my burger. The fries, can't say enough about the fries they were immaculate as I remember them!!! I love going back to childhood place and it hasn't changed at all!!!

Yelp
Solid 4 star. Personally, I know it's probably blasphemy for some of you, I prefer shake shack to this spot. The local mom and pop feel does win for me though! Service is great and food is decent. I'm not a huge fan of the buns as they are a little harder and not the soft gooey you get at some spots. The patties themselves also are a little on the dry side but they do the job. The kids menu is a decent deal since it comes with fries and a drink. A double burger runs about $9 which I guess is about par as if the date of writing this review (still seems a little pricier to me). Overall, I like that they still take orders by hand with pen and paper and that the staff is just warm and welcoming!

Yelp
Usually BH really hits the spot, the Zoe's Special is one of the best chicken sandwiches you can get in this city. Unfortunately, they really let me down tonight. After being without power since the storms Tuesday morning, I threw away the last of the spoiled food in my fridge this morning and I've been living on takeout and staying with others for power and WiFi. I was excited when my host recommended BH for dinner tonight. That excitement was crushed when I opened my takeout order to find my Zoe's BURNT to a crisp. While the chicken is usually a nice size and juicy, what I got today one was thin and charred as were the onions and bread. Not sure what's going on with the quality control at this BH, but doubt I'll venture back anytime soon. TLDR: check your takeout order before you leave, cause the kitchen will send you home with a piece of charcoal and charge you nearly $12 for your trouble.

Yelp
I ordered this heaven on Uber Eats when I tell you this goodness oh my God it was so amazing. The chili tasted homemade it was super cheesy. It was piping hot when it got to me like I almost burned my mouth, I will return for more. These are the chili cheese fries that you can really never find anywhere but mom and Pop shops. It was really authentic and I will come back for Kim, I can't speak on the service because I didn't go in but by the food I can tell that they put love in their food
google avatar

Yelp
I didn't expect much coming here which is why you should never judge a book by it's cover. The quality of the food is AMAZING! Everything is fresh and came out so hot. The chili cheese fries were packed with cheese and chili! It was a lot of everything! They were not greedy at all! The double cheeseburger was so good with all the toppings , the bread was so soft and the meat! You could tell it was like fresh meat not the frozen kind. The star of the show to me was the Zoe's chicken sandwich supreme!!! I've never had a chicken sandwich so good! The Swiss cheese was all melted and gooey! The chicken was seasoned and juicy!!! The fries!!! Best seasoning ever! I would definitely pick this place over any fast food restaurant. Great service and great food! You can't beat that!

Yelp
Visited 12/20/2023. Was craving a Zoe's Chicken and some seasoned fries so ordered them from the drive thru along with a strawberry malt. The malt was pretty good and the Zoe's Chicken was as good as it's always been. However, the seasoned fries were not so seasoned and a little less than crispy. The fries were fairly hot so I assumed they must've been fresh but just missed getting the correct/any amount of seasoning on them. Kind of a bummer since that's kind of what they are known for. If I dined in I would have asked for seasoning but didn't know until I got home. This is the second time this has happened with their fries. But...I'll still return as I'm a sucker for Zoe's Chicken and I'll just be sure to test the fries next time!

Yelp
Great burger joint . Double cheese with jalapeños , seasoned fries, surprisingly tasty chili , and friendly service . They even have the ole fashioned cherry coke. 10/10 experience!

Yelp
I would take Burger House over in n out or shake shack any day. They have solid burgers with some of the better fast food fries I've had in a while. (I think it's their secret fry seasoning). Their chocolate milkshake was also the perfect match with the burger and fries. We got our food fast and enjoyed a good burger with fries. If you end up near this place and need a quick meal, consider this place.

Yelp
Burger House has fantastic burgers and fries! There's a lot of seating inside with a parking lot with plenty of parking. Service is quick and workers are friendly! Definitely will be back.

Yelp
A good ole fashion hole in the wall place- super yummy burgers and really good salty seasoning on the burgers and fries. It's a staple in Dallas's history ! Highly recommended- the restaurant itself is very dated but it gives the place character. The service is really quick ! The prices are reasonable- I'm able to get my meal and drink for $10

Yelp
Love that BH is literally in my neighborhood. Fave place to grab a quality meal. Made to order so know a longer wait is generally worth it. Entree's are consistent and yummy. Corny dog is second best to Fletcher's which is a HUGE compliment and a little less expensive. However, the sides have gone completely down hill. Last several times I've ordered tater tots, they have been more like mashed potatoes. Tonight I asked about it before taking my order and I got a lame excuse that maybe they were cooked too long the last time. Tried a few on the way home. SAME BS. Turned around and asked for fries because the tots were awful AGAIN (Sonic ones are actually better. Meh.) Fries were overcooked and disgusting - McD are way better. Literally threw them out the window so the birds and squirrels could eat well this evening. No apology or even an offer for a refund. Boo for customer service and a "small town" restaurant experience. Corny dog was cold by the time I got home, but still good. Disappointed in the lack of details - seems easy to perfect the sides to match the main meal. Trying not to be an a-hole, but need to put this out there. Please step it up BH. Like it used to be from a long time M streets customer.

Yelp
I visited this burger joint for the 1st time a couple of weeks ago, and it was *unremarkable*... The burger was lackluster and the order of Fries was way too small. I definitely did not get the level of "bang for my buck" that I wanted. #theirburgersareoverpriced

Yelp
So family has never tried this place out and decided to come in and get some burgers. Coming in this place does look and feel that it has been in business for a while. We approached the counter and a lady was standing there we took a minute to looks at the menu and then stepped forward to make order. The lady got a phone order and of course we had no issue waiting for her, well after she took the phone order she looked at us and then went to go stand at end of counter. My family and I were just standing there not knowing if we order at counter or sit down no one greeted us when approached the counter or even told us to give them a minute. I ended up having to ask the lady if we order at counter and she replied yes and stated that she thought we had been helped already wich I took as bs because she literally saw us come In and we were standing right in front of her. Enough about that experience, let's get to the food. I ordered the texas hamburgersdog wich is basically what it sounds like a burger with a hot soft and chili also for a side of onion rings and they were ok. The burger was freaking good, I also ordered a shake and it hit the spot as well. Overall food was good would of been a 4 star except for that little encounter when we first came in. Customer experience is important to me, I just want to feel welcomed because we did choose to come into this establishment and spend our money.

Yelp
This visit is not about the Food. My husband and I were the first customers in @ the 11 am opening today. After ordering our food , I went to the ladies restroom. I noticed a cell phone was left in the bathroom stall. It began it vibrate, a heard a lady outside the stall say " oh good my phone is in there. I opened the door, she grabbed her phone and left. Since she was the last person in the stall, your employee , the only thing I can say is "this is NOT ok. I understand good help is hard to find in the past few years. But this is NOT acceptable. After we finished our meal, I went to counter and asked who the manager was. . I was told Veronica. Heaven help us!! Veronica your manager was the one who left the bathroom . If you can't get better Mgmt. than this , it's time to close the doors. BTW, we have been regulars at the restaurant for years. Never again!!!!

Yelp
I was in the area and looking for something different than regular fast food. I came across Burger House and they had mixed reviews but wanted to give them a shot. It's an old very established burger joint. I think the sign said in business since 1951. I was pretty impressed with the drive thru line at lunch hour. Maybe 15 minutes max and there was about 6 cars ahead of me. I ordered a double cheeseburger and the onion rings. Lots of reviews talked about the fries and their seasoning but I prefer onion rings. Total was $11 which is about average pricing. I snuck an onion ring while o was driving back to work and was very impressed. It seems their seasoning goes on the rings too. Very good and don't appear to be frozen. The burger was just mediocre honestly. The bun was falling apart and I started eating my lunch 5 minutes after picking it up. The patties were ok but not great. Overall a good place but not epic at all.

Ben R.

Yelp
I was just looking up burgers in another town and my wife reminded me of burger house. When we were in Texas, this was our absolute spot. The chicken and fries are awesome to, milkshakes, everything. Friendly service and just a awesome local spot
google avatar

Suzanne C.

Yelp
Best cheese fries in the city! I've been going here since a kid in 2005 and it gets better every time. I actually have the burger house seasoning for my house and use it on my own burgers/chicken. Definitely give it a try if you're in the area.
google avatar

Guy H.

Yelp
This is about as good as a sloppy cheap take you back to the good ole days burger gets. Remember when a burger, fries and drink didn't set you back $15-17 bucks? For $10 dollars you get a pretty good hamburger cooked on a flat top grill probably older than you are. Its worth the trip just to look at the place. These pre 1960z places are going fast. Go!

Patti R.

Yelp
Rest burgers and fries! Love the quick service, friendly service and dive thru! Be sure to get grilled onions added to your burger!
google avatar

Brittany S.

Yelp
I'm giving this place a low rating because of two main reasons. Reason 1. it was hair in my french fries long silky black hair. With me being a private chef , it's a must that all employees working with food wear hair nets. 2. Both of my burgers were under cook . Very disappointing because I came here based on the reviews, hoping that it would be a decent burger place. The customer service was great, fast, and fries were hot. I won't be returning .

Yelp
So I've heard good recommendations from several online sources about this place on my neighborhood for a while now so I finally got around to trying it. First, sat in the drive thru at the speaker for 4 minutes saying "hello? Hello?" Never got a response. So I pull around and got the attention of one of the employees at the window and he took my order. It wasn't busy, there were literally 4-5 employees standing around up front yet nobody was paying attention to the drive thru. So I ordered the burger and the chili cheese fries. The chili cheese fries were huge, I was shocked at it being that large! Got them home and the chili cheese fries were ok, but I wasn't a fan of the chili. Very salty and very greasy. Next I turned to the burger, which I ordered with just cheese and mustard. First the patty was so well done that I thought I was eating jerky. And most jerky is FAR less salty than this burger. It was disgusting. So bad so, that I spit the bite out and threw the burger away. I've heard so many good things about this place that I'm wondering if something was truly wrong and they were having an off day or if it really is that bad and people have terrible taste in fast food.
google avatar

Theresa K.

Yelp
Not a bad burger by any means. Just fast food and not even equivalent to In N Out Burger, except In N Out, has a much friendlier staff and are happy to greet and serve you. Burger House serves burgers, not service. I can get a burger anywhere and really, the difference is SERVICE. Let me put it this way: If I knew I only had 5 more minutes before the end of the world and could thoroughly enjoy my last great burger, Burger House would not even be in my radar.
google avatar

Kathy B.

Yelp
Well it's been a while since I ate here but had a chance to stop by yesterday and ordered a cheeseburger and onion rings everything was delicious but because I ordered to go my onion rings were soft and not crispy so next time I would sit there to eat or just order the French fries to go.
google avatar

Gabrielle E.

Yelp
Service is so poor and slow and inadequate use of workers. There are presently 5 people lounging in the front and and 2 people preparing orders in the kitchen. There is no sense of urgency to fill orders or serve clientele. The food is great but I will drive further and pay more for better service!!!

Carol K.

Yelp
I don't live in Dallas anymore but when I'm in town I have to get my BH fix. In all the cities Ive lived, nothing compares. I buy seasoning to take home with me and where else can you get an old fashioned cherry coke made with real syrup? C'mon....you gotta go!

Zee B.

Yelp
I got to experience this hidden gem (from me) earlier this evening and I have to say that was a very great burger with deliciously seasoned fries! I've never had fries like those it's like onion powder very tasty and fresh. The burger itself was incredible I loved the Patties, not too thick. I love kellers but this has to be better than it it's kind of like Dairyette but way better.
google avatar

Flynn C.

Yelp
I grew up loving this, and I loved it on my recent revisit. Perfect food, perfect building, perfect atmosphere. There is no burger joint (in Texas, at least) that can match it.
google avatar

Mike K.

Yelp
I've been coming to Burger House for a while now and love it! Super delicious, quick and no frills. Love their veggie burger and they have the best seasoned fries! Hot, fresh and lots of their special seasoning salt. Decided to swing by tonight and go through the drive thru. No one was in line and I breezed right through in under 5 minutes. At $8.65 it's so worth it and the most delicious burger with all the fixings. Everything on the menu looks amazing and this place has been around for years which says it all! They have a location in Highland Park and the one closest to me on Mockingbird and Abrams. The service is always great and the place seems very clean inside. They also win in my book with LOTS of fries which means I got to enjoy some on the ride home and still have plenty by the time I got home. Check them out!!
google avatar

Chelsea O.

Yelp
This place is one of our staples for burger night. Their seasoned salt on top of the fries is EVERYTHING! I highly recommend getting the kids burger - it's the perfect amount of food and comes with fries and a drink! If you're a little hungrier and get "adult" burgers, split a large fry. They are a great portion. The seasoning makes a good gift for people visiting Dallas :)
google avatar

Bailey P.

Yelp
One of the best burgers in Dallas. The inside does give old diner vibes but it matches the energy of the food. Employees were very helpful as it was our first time coming.
google avatar

Niki T.

Yelp
My parents have been coming here since they were kids and raised me on the greatness that is, Burger House. If I could give them 10 Stars I would. The best burgers in the state of TX and the fries.... Don't get me started. If you've been here, you know. The staff here is always friendly and welcoming. I love the interior, it hasn't changed much in the 25+ years I've been going - And I LOVE that. It is just like I remember as a kid. I love looking at all of the photos on the wall and all of the arcade games. The food is out of this world good. Simple, delicious, and seasoned to absolute perfection. I always order a plain hamburger, add ketchup to it and THAT IS IT. That's how good it is. You don't need anything else. If you've never had Burger House fries - Prepare to never accept any other French fries for the rest of your life. Crispy, so yummy, and the seasoning is addicting!! They sell it too so grab a bottle to take home. An absolute staple of Dallas! Never change Burger House - You are the BEST!!!
google avatar

Casey L.

Yelp
We ordered 3 burgers and 2 fries 1 cheese fries and 1 onion ring. We got the burgers and regular fries but no cheese fries and onion rings. After an hour wait you think the food would be right. Fries were ok they were cold and needed to be cooked more. Burgers were decent.
google avatar

Tiffany T.

Yelp
The patty itself was small and dry and not good at all. The tator tots with cheese were so amazing with ranch that they almost made up for the burger. Almost

Marcos D.

Yelp
Burgers are amazing! I love the seasoning. They even put it on their fries. The cherry coke is great too! It's Coke with cherry syrup, yummy!
google avatar

Ray F.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years and as this is a great place to get a decent burger, salad, hot dog chili and shakes. Their fries are great and they are famous for their seasoning. My most recent visit was for shakes and chili. Good staff and consistent flavors. Drive through, dine in or take out, this is a good place to eat. Kids and teens will enjoy the place.
google avatar

Karla J.

Yelp
I love little burger joints like Burger House! I ordered the cheeseburger and although it was tasty, I did not get full lol Entirely my fault! I should've ordered the double! The onion rings are really good here as well.
google avatar

Denise S.

Yelp
It's clean. The staff was courteous. The burger + onion rings were delicious. The burger + naked fries were nothing to write home about.
google avatar

Megan F.

Yelp
I hold a lot of fond memories of eating at Burger House as I grew up in the neighborhood. If you want a quick but quality burger (or veggie burger), then go to Burger House! The employees are friendly and the food tastes good. Convenient. Fast. Good.
google avatar

David V.

Yelp
Just did takeout from here. The burger was not to order and the fries were UNCOOKED. Shockingly bad.
google avatar

Douglas C.

Yelp
Stopped on a whim...saw many cars and that it's been around since 1951. Total throw back with loyal customers obviously. I went with double cheese chili burger cause it smelled like Tommy Burger in Cali. First, the fries and vanilla shake were top notch! My burger was freshly grilled and tasted pretty good. A lil to much sAlt for me but I'm sensitive to it. Seems like Texans like salt. On the fence 3.5 is my true rating. I recommend you try it.
google avatar

Melissa C.

Yelp
Very fast service. Friendly service. Good food. Not to into the seasoning for fries. Always give big portions. Fresh food and great shakes. Eat here all the time.
google avatar

Steven F.

Yelp
Burgers are great. Popped right in, and it was super quick to order. Food was prepared hot and fast. The seasoned fries are a must try. The prices are affordable and the food is great.

Nicholas Z.

Yelp
A true Dallas staple that is delicious every time. Great people and better food. Top 3 burger in Dallas.
google avatar

Susan T.

Yelp
Never have a bad meal at the Burger House. Tonight was chili cheese burger with grilled onions. Fabulous!!!! Service is always great. My grandchildren love this place plus it fills up teenagers.
google avatar

Luis S.

Yelp
On national burger day and with a fresh burger tattoo - I hit the drive thru as many a burger seekers do. Cheeseburger, onion rings, cheese fries and oreo shake. I over did it but I wanted to try all of these so I did. The cheese fries felt life a dumbbell in hand versus a yummy side. So much shredded cheese on these fries - much more then any pile of fries deserve. The onion rings had me cocking my head to the side thinking yum. They season theirs different then any others Ive had. The burger wasn't amazing or bad - an average okay burger. I'd eat there again with no twisting of my arm.
google avatar

John W.

Yelp
One of the best burgers in Dallas!! Amazing seasoning salts. The fries are a must have just because of the seasoning alone. Great chili cheese fries and chili cheese dogs. If you're from Dallas, you know and have most likely had a Burger House Burger at some point in your life. Their shakes And malts are a must have as well! This location offers a drive-thru which is nice because not all locations do.
google avatar

Jimmie M.

Yelp
The burger was not as good as I thought it would be. Maybe I will try this place again as it was possible that I was just not in the mood for a burger.
google avatar

John R.

Yelp
Food was awesome. Beer was nice and cold. Service was great. A little pricy but I'm am not complaining one bit the seasoning they use for the burgers and the fries is off the chain!
google avatar

Lisa D.

Yelp
I love everything about this place! My husband is a burger connoisseur (or would like to think he is) so we've tried lots of the popular burger places in Dallas. I have finally come to the conclusion that this is the BEST burger place in the entire metroplex! Yep I said it and I don't care who disagrees. They make the burgers exactly the way I like 'em. Thin meat patties, lots of fresh veggies(lettuce, tomato, onion) and a light smear of mustard. I don't even need the cheese. Now let's talk about the fries. Dear goodness, heaven in a basket! The house made seasoning they use is perfect for these crunchy yum yums. Every time we get finished eating I always tell my husband I could have eaten more. Lol. Restraint! Check 'em out!
google avatar

Cole F.

Yelp
I've been coming here for about 20 years and am finally ready to write a review: Really good, crave-able, unique and well seasoned fries. Everything else is solid. Memories are great. Could use a light remodel. I hope it's here for 20 years more.
google avatar

Kristie A.

Yelp
Burger House has a drive through. Given that, if you compare these burgers to fast food places, then Burger House wins by far! Compared to other burgers around the metroxplex, I think Burger House does an all right job. The patties are thin and flavored well. The burgers come with mustard, shredded iceberg lettuce, tomatoes and I want to say pickles too, but don't hold me to that. They're famous for their fries, or so the sign says, and I can't figure out why. The fries looked great, but are covered in seasoning, which to me tastes like a pepper shaker exploded over the fries. The next time around I ordered the onion rings, and even though they had a little bit of the peppery season on them, they were much better than the fries. Overall this is not the best burger in town, but is one of the better options in the immediate area. PS - they offer beer to go from the drive through.
