Flame-broiled burgers, beef tallow fries, shakes, and rings

"We were sad when Balkan Streat in the West Village closed last year, but it’s now reopened, with the owners throwing their hat into the burger shop ring. We used to love their Balkan-style burger, and their new motto is “We don’t smash. We cook,” so we’d suggest slipping this into your rotation, especially if you’re tired of thin and crispy burgers." - will hartman
"A fast-casual flip of a recent bakery space in Greenwich Village, this concept focuses on burgers alongside chile cheese fries and fried chicken sandwiches for a straightforward, comfort-driven menu." - Emma Orlow
"Normally, we wouldn’t condone splitting a chili-cheese dog. That’s a deeply personal experience that should remain between you and your creator. But at Burgerhead in the West Village, splitting the beef-covered dog is the move, because then you can get your own single Charburger—a 4oz patty, grilled on a charbroiler, and also split a vanilla milkshake that’s so creamy, it’s a perfect dip for your tallow-fried fries. This place is in the old Balkan Streat spot, and it’s from the same owners. We miss their ćevapi, but Burgerhead is a worthy follow-up, with several little tables that are good for a quick lunch or late bite (they’re open until 1am on weekends). Head here when you’re in the area and want something a little more substantial—and less smashed—than the burgers at Hamburger America or Smashed. photo credit: Jill Rittymanee photo credit: Jill Rittymanee" - Will Hartman
"Owners William Djuric and Jason Correa are flipping the former Balkan Streat space at 353 Sixth Avenue into Burgerhead, which is opening this spring as a fast-casual concept specializing in burgers along with chile cheese fries and fried chicken sandwiches." - Emma Orlow
