Burgerlords in Highland Park serves a classic yet elevated smash burger experience, complete with tasty tallow fries and nostalgic diner vibes.
"The once-vegan Burgerlords has been acquired by Ben Richter, the operator behind Wake & Late. With the transfer in ownership, the restaurant’s menu now features only one main dish — a smash burger and fries for $25. The double patty burger comes with the option of Two Thousand Island dressing or ketchup and mustard slathered on top of two crispy patties and a housemade bun." - Rebecca Roland
"A Vietnamese diner fused with American comfort food in a modern setting. Everything on the menu here is worth tweeting about. Some stand out dishes for us include a Roasted Oyster Mushroom Bahn Mi and a Curry Pot Pie." - Friend of a Friend
"With its prime location next to the Lodge Room, the Highland Park outlet of Burgerlords boasts plenty of diner-style seating and an omnivorous menu of fries, single and double burgers, and tahini milkshakes." - Cathy Chaplin, Eater Staff
"It's usually the case that burger spots will add a few vegan options, but it's the other way around at Burgerlords. Previously 100% vegan, this retro-themed diner put meat back on its menu. The namesake cheeseburger with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and pickles is certainly tasty, but we usually get the "Brainburner." Their housemade vegan patty is topped with jalapeño chips, garlic aioli, and vegan provolone to create a spicy, crunchy, and very filling bite. Our advice: skip the fries and order the crispy tofu nuggets with a side of their signature sunburn hot sauce. " - brant cox, nikko duren, garrett snyder, sylvio martins
"Burgerlords opened in Chinatown in 2015 as a walk-up window serving both regular and vegan burgers. And then it went fully vegan before changing its mind. Fast forward to today, the family-owned spot has transitioned back to serving a mix of vegan and meat options and has a second location in Highland Park. Here, the space looks and feels more like a retro diner you’d find off of a freeway exit, with a large dining room and a makeshift front patio as well. The namesake cheeseburger with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and pickles is certainly tasty, but we usually get the “Brainburner.” It comes with their housemade vegan patty topped with jalapeño chips, chopped chilies, garlic aioli, and vegan provolone. It’s spicy, crunchy, and very filling. Skip the fries and order the thick, crispy tofu nuggets with a side of the housemade sunburn hot sauce." - Brant Cox
