Yelp
Like entering a wine cellar in the South of France, Burgundy Wine Company is serious about their grapes. Designed to show off the collections and vineyards, I found the layout and display impressively simple. The fact that almost every bottle comes from the Burgundy region makes it that much easier to make your choice. For the old world wine drinker or francophile fiend, this is like a drunken dream. Throw in a Wednesday jazz and tasting happy hour and it's easy to let your taste buds travel to Europe every now and again.

Yelp
Very good advice, nice shop with non-classical choices!

Yelp
If you look at the beautiful scale maps of the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune at Burgundy Wine Company, you will understand why the concept of terroir is so important to French wine, as the quality of wine can vary greatly from region to region, village to village, and even vineyard by vineyard. This invariably makes Burgundy one of the more incomprehensible regions for the wine drinker, but the store does a great job trying to make the region more accessible. The store has a free pamphlet about the Burgundy region; this is truly a great resource for anyone who wants to learn more about wine, as it explains the different appellations in the Côte d'Or, where Burgundy's most famous and most expensive wines originate, as well as the lesser known Côte Chalonnaise and Mâconnais regions. The store carries wine from Burgundy and the Rhone with a few bottles of California and Oregon thrown in for US pinot noir representation. The wines range anywhere from $20 - $100, which is reasonable for the vineyards that have smaller production. Burgundy Wine Store also has free wine tastings on Wednesday from 5-7pm, which allows the uninitiated to taste the namesake wine in a leisurely gallery settting.

Yelp
The Burgundy Wine Company embodies the beauty of specialization. They may not have breadth at this gorgeous Chelsea wine gallery, but they definitely have depth. With wines pretty much only from Burgundy and the Rhone with a few bottlings of California and Oregon Pinot Noir thrown in for good measure, this store is a Francophile's dream. Except if you're a Bordeaux fan. The Burgundy Wine Company brings in wines that you probably won't find anywhere else in the USA. They also seem to have a bottle open for tasting most any time I've gone in to the store, and that's pretty often. Check out their website at www.burgundwinecompany.com for more info on events and tastings.

Yelp
Great selection of wines that comes with extraordinary markup. Go there for a nice and rare wine and expect to pay a hefty premium.

Yelp
If you are looking for help selecting JUST the right wine from Burgundy, the Rhone or Oregon, you won't find a better selection or especially a more knowledgeable staff than what you'll find here. "Geri" has been involved with Burgundy for decades and if there's a Burgundy specialist in the New York area, she's it. If you're in NY or if you are visiting and you're serious about finding a wine from the areas this shop specializes in, from very affordable wines to the most expensive wines in the world, this place is definitely worth a visit. If you're NOT a Burgundy fan yet, be careful! These wines are addictive :-)

Yelp
Austere looking, but great selection.

Yelp
Obviously the selection is specialized, but if Burgundy is what you're looking for this is a great place to get it. The staff will take the time to find out what you like and make the best recommendation, but they do have their favorites. My friend and I went on separate occasions and both walked out with the same bottle of Beaujolais. Still, they're very friendly and accommodating. I was buying wine for lunch that day and they pulled a bottle of my selection from the cellar so I could have it chilled. If you give them your email address (which I am rarely inclined to do), it creates an account on their website where you can order and keep track of wines you've tasted, even those they don't carry. A little nerdy, but great for your budding oenophilia. The best part for me is it's within walking distance of my office. And I don't like anything within walking distance of there. Obviously, there is a bias.

Yelp
This is my favorite wine store. I've been going here for 10 years. Fabulous selection of wines, staff is very knowledgable and helpful, fun wine tasting events.
