Google
Excellent Burmese food without a long weight like you always get at Burma superstar. The people who are extremely helpful and friendly and do not try to rush you out like they do at Burma superstar. This is the place to go if you’re looking for Burmese food in the East Bay.

Maya A.

Google
I came at a weird time so I was the only person there for most of my meal. The food was delicious and came really quickly. I love how many vegan options they had. I had the yellow tofu and tea leaf salad and the flavors and textures were perfect. I will definitely be coming again!

christina Z.

Google
Awesome burmese food, very reasonable prices and really delicious food! I recommend the burmese style lamb curry with palatha and the sesame chicken and tea lead salad!! The palatha and curry were my favorite

Joanie

Google
Ordered the Rainbow Salad and Tea Salad to go (they’ve been opened for a week so no one was inside. Which is a bummer to see for a new restaurant. They took over the old Royal Rangoon spot). My Rainbow Salad was disappointing. I got the tiniest amount of what was supposed to be 3 different kinds of noodles? I got like maybe two strands of each and then mostly vermicelli. And then the saddest part was it was alllllll cabbage after. The tea salad was good, but like if you’re a legit Burmese restaurant, you really shouldn’t mess that up. Also way more cabbage than I would have wanted. This is a cabbage centered place. To the restaurant: if you can, include more noodles and less cabbage or ask the patron before putting in the order.

Michele L.

Google
Really good mohinga! Good coconut chicken noodle soup (oh no kao swei) as well. It’s like home cooking. The Rainbow salad needed more tamarind sauce, but good portions and lots of noodle variety. I ordered to go so I can’t speak to dining in. Seemed like nice atmosphere though!

Google
Delicious from start to finish. We had eight guests for dinner and every single dish was good. I feel lucky that B Berkeley is in our neighborhood.

Google
Burma Berkeley replaced Royal Rangoon in this location about a month or two ago. Our group went there on a Saturday about 5pm. We ordered Mint Jalapeños Chicken, Burmese Lamb Curry, Fried Rice, Tea Leaf Salad, Coconut Rice, Burmese Garlic Noodles w/ Veggies and Chicken, Eggplant w/shrimp, Lettuce Wraps, Samosas. We all agreed that the meal was incredible. All of the dishes were so delicious. Service was wonderful and the staff was very attentive. No photos because I was too busy eating:)

Scott

Google
Good food good service. Tea leaf salad tasted great. Noodle dish was a little bit mushy but the flavor was good. Service was fast and friendly. Dining room med expectations. Convenient curbside parking outside.

Yelp
Ambiance and service, top notch Cindy, excellent Dry curry dish, super Chicken pumpkin, not so much

Yelp
Service was attentive, food came fast. Portions were generous. We had parata with lamb curry (delicious, flaky bread! Flavorful curry!) Tea leaf salad, fresh and crunchy Mohinga- creamy and fishy in the best way Fried chicken- GF! And topped with all of the fun fruits and veggies. I might ask for the sweet chili sauce on the side just cuz I'm not a huge fan sweet sauce. Dry curry Swai- delicious! I don't know why I loved it, but we did! Burmese pork curry, also delicious and saucy! Coconut rice- SO GOOD WITH EVERYTHING!!!!

Yelp
Burma Berkeley opened 6 months ago in Royal Rangoon's space. Cosmetic changes in the 3 sections. Greeted courteously soon after entry. Assigned a table. Most tables set up for 4 persons. Got seated solo at 1. Offerings (Asian fusion, Burmese): appetizers, pork, soup & salad, chicken, rice & noodles, seafood, beef & lamb..so many in each category. Red flag? Bites: Burmese style Chicken Curry (19) non spicy -broth initially smelled/tasted savory with some boldness. 1st impressions faded into disappointment as i ate many large pieces of mushy, bland potatoes, 4ish large pieces of chewy bland chicken pieces. Chicken Should have simmered longer in smaller pieces. Pedestrian miscues... -smaller chicken pieces had flavor, were tender. -menu states sauce made from "lemongrass, onions, ginger, garlic, masala, paprika, bay leaves & fish sauce." Tasted the tartness, not much else. -1/2 way thru, lost interest, had it packed to go. Didn't eat anything before. Just a milkshake. 3.5 stars not worthy:YMMV, Quality: too many ingredients spoiled the sauce. Quantity: the usual. Doubtful repeat. Fusion eats not my jam.

Yelp
===TL;DR=== - Palata w/ coconut chicken curry - Burmese garlic noodle - Burmese style chicken curry ===TMI=== Came here on a Friday late afternoon and it was practically empty. Friendly staff greeted and got seated immediately. The food was alright. The palata's curry dip was light whereas the Burmese style chicken curry was a lot thicker. All the dishes were good sharing portions. I thought the garlic noodle lacked a bit of flavor but it was good with a bit of the curry sauce. Overall they were ok. Nothing really stood out but they weren't bad either. Might be more beneficial to come with a bigger crowd so that way, you can try more food.

Yelp
Ordered take out from the Berkeley location 3 times. 2 out of 3 times food was icy cold, chicken was cold & hard and some of the chicken was discolored (purplish/blackish coloring), noodles and veggies were cold and mushy. The flavor was flat, bland, and stale. The discoloration on the chicken in multiple dishes is concerning. The one time I ordered, the food was actually good which is why I thought I'd try another time. I was wrong to do so. Ruined my much awaited Friday night :( The ambiance is nice and staff is friendly so I'm hoping with this review the restaurant can fix the cold and stale food issue. I will not be ordering here again.

Yelp
Excellent Burmese food in Berkeley and without the wait or rush of Burma superstar. This is the place to go, I only wish it was open a little bit later. The food is excellent, and the staff are very helpful and nice.

Yelp
First time here with a friend on a lovely day in Berkeley :) inside was very clean and well decorated interior-wise. Their bathroom was also fully stocked and clean. They had an expansive food and drink menu, with a variety of choices, from mocktails to veggie options. We enjoyed everything! I esp. loved my honey lime ginger ale soda. It was very refreshing. The samosa soup was also perfectly made to my liking with its spice level and how hot it was served. My friend also loved everything and had no complaints. The service was amazing, with such kind people who checked on us often. The food also came out rather quickly. Would definitely return to try out other items on the menu :)

Yelp
My friend and I used to come here when it was Royal Rangoon as it was our go to place for tea leaf salad! Well when it reopened as Burma Berkeley, we were so excited as the service, ambience and food were still the same. The samosas are bigger and very filled and tasty, the Pad Thai was so delish and the tea leaf salad was very good but it came already mixed, not like the previous restaurant where they sprinkled some shrimp powder on the side of the dish and mixed the salad in front of you. I also miss the mango lassi as the new restaurant doesn't serve it but the server mentioned other customers have asked about it. Good food, good service and atmosphere

Yelp
I love Burmese food so I was excited to see a new spot has opened in Berkeley. Very easy to find, right on Telegraph. The restaurant is deceivingly large and has lovely photographs as decor. The service was absolutely on point. They go above and beyond. I ordered the tea leaf salad, it was very fresh and flavorful and came out super quick. Then I tried the palata with curry lamb which was also a classic! Lastly I ordered the Burmese garlic noodles with shrimp. This dish was unlike any other I've ever tried. The sauce was almost peanuty. It was very delicious and fun to eat given it had a lot of complexity. We also ordered a Burmese ice tea! This was one of our favorite things, so much so that we ordered another one to go. I would definitely go back. The cocktail menu looked great as well!

Yelp
We simply adore stumbling on new jewels to frequent and this place was nothing short of an amazing surprise. Let's start with the Palata with chicken curry,...OMG! Also had the Burmese garlic noodles with veggies, Burmese Indian rice, and pumpkin curry. There are some places so good the words to accurately describe are challenging to find. This is one of them. Server was kind and attentive. Atmosphere was cozy and traditional to many Asian restaurants. Clean, sanitary, and smelled delicious the moment we entered. We will return!
google avatar

Dani K.

Yelp
I am so happy to have stumbled upon Burma Berkeley. The smell when you walk in will incite instant hunger. The service is impeccable as everyone there was kind and friendly as well as accommodating. This is a place I plan to come to regularly and try everything on the menu. The Palata was flaky and tasted freshly made and the serving size was generous. It felt like eating with family who cares deeply about the people they are serving and I can't speak highly enough of this place.

Yelp
I came here with my BFF the 2nd week of December. When entering it looked empty by the bar but they took us to the other side were there was a couple of people. The place was calm and looked clean. The waiter who took our order was nice, fast, and checked on us in case we needed anything. This was my first time here and I'm glad we tried it out. We ordered a lot. All the food was fresh and hot upon arrival. We ordered calamari which was crispy which made it taste good. We had some samosas and those were delicious with just the amount of spice. The coconut rice had the perfect amount of sweetness and went with all the items we got. I thought I wasn't going to like it but it was great. We also had garlic noodles they were okay. We had thought the noodles were regular but they were the skinny flat noodles. I believe we got some chicken with veggies which went well with the rice. We had the honey shrimp which was the star of it all. It was crispy, sweet, and tasty. I'd definitely order again and recommend it. At this point we were full but why not dessert to top it off, which was the fried banana. It was 4 fried bananas, ice cream, and strawberries. I would come here again if I were to be in the area again.

Yelp
Good food and good service. Tea leaf salad tasted great. Noodle dishes were tasty good but my noodles were a tiny bit mushy. The dining room is clean and comfortable. Bathrooms are reasonably clean also. Convenient parking on the curb.

Mariam J.

Yelp
This was my first time trying Burmese food and it was delicious! We ordered the Burmese style chicken curry with palata (my favorite of what we got), salt and pepper chicken, garlic noodles with pork (my least favorite dish and not worth it imo) and moh hin gha soup. All the food was really good but the chicken curry and palata (a mix of naan and paratha) were the stars of the show. Ambiance was really nice and the staff were also very kind and accommodating. Overall really good and highly suggest!

Loella D.

Yelp
New desert spot unlocked! I had the best platha (banana palata) here, the layers and sugared crunch were unbelievable. We also ordered the rainbow salad which tasted amazing at a pretty reasonable price. Wish I caught a picture of our food but everything was really too good and went quick lol but I will definitely be back! I was pretty bummed about Royal Rangoon closing, but happy Burma Berkeley is around and excited to support
google avatar

Katie Y.

Yelp
Happy to see this spot reopen as Burma Berkeley after the closure of Royal Rangoon. I really missed Royal Rangoon! Ordered takeout for the tea leaf salad, sesame beef, chili lamb, and coconut rice. All were quite good. Sesame beef was one of my favorites at Royal Rangoon and it tasted very similar, so that's great! Tea leaf salad was tasty but I would love a non-vegan option. And I was pleasantly surprised by the lamb dish, it was very tasty. Portions were super generous.
google avatar

Sanna A.

Yelp
I thought I had pictures to share, but everytime I go I always end up forgetting. That's how good the food is! A lot of space for larger parties. It's 7 mins from Berkeley campus just off of telegraph. They also have a location in Dublin, CA. The food is pretty good. The service is excellent. I been there 3 times in the last 2 months with family. I will def be back. 4.5/5
google avatar

Del S.

Yelp
The service was so gracious. The food reasonably priced and tasty. Comfortable seating. Plateware and glassware suitable. It was a Saturday late lunch and very nice that they serve continuously, so no rushing us to be finished. Corkage fee a reasonable $15. We will be back!
google avatar

Tina Z.

Yelp
Great new burmese restaurant!! I highly recommend the tea leaf salad, palatha, burmese style lamb curry, and sesame chicken! Reasonable prices and delicious food
google avatar

Mikayla M.

Yelp
So freaking good! Will need to go in person!!! Great food! Great people! Great vibes!
google avatar

Stephanie C.

Yelp
The food was absolutely phenomenal and unique! Garlic Burma noodles and eggplant curry with coconut rice was the way to go. All of the staff were so friendly & attentive. The place is decorated nicely. We sat in a booth and overall just loved it.

Iana L.

Yelp
Food was delicious, especially the minted jalapeños chicken!! Definitely recommend. I got spicy, which is was less spicy than Thai "spicy", perfect for me. Food came so so quickly! The servers were all super kind and attentive, checked in multiple times. I came here by myself at 5:44pm on a Tuesday, so I was the only one at the time, gentle music and decoration in the background was good! They just opened a couple months ago, I hope they get more business soon.
google avatar

Melissa L.

Yelp
Man, that coconut rice!!! I will dream of how delicately flavored that rice is!!! The team here is very very kind, sweet and attentive. They really strive to create a great, welcoming experience! And they've redone the space to be a lot more modern & comfortable than its predecessor. Burma Berkeley is a very welcome addition to the neighborhood, and I can't wait to go back for that coconut rice!!!! Ps, skip the metered parking right outside the restaurant. The parking on side streets is pretty plentiful & easy!
google avatar

Dana T.

Yelp
A great find! We always liked Rangoon, and were sad to see it go. So we were hoping that Burma Berkeley would be as good. It was beyond our wildest dreams of Burmese food. We had the Burmese style pork curry the first visit. Burmese sits between Thailand and India, and their food is like a fusion of those two cuisines plus their own unique flavors. The pork curry was a perfect example, with its unique flavors including both Indian and Thai influences. Next time we ordered the fish with basil and dried chili, another masterpiece. Each time we had the tea leaf salad. Not prepared at the table, a disappointment, but made with a perfect combination of cabbage and lettuce.
google avatar

Sam Z.

Yelp
Stopped in here for a fast tea leaf salad. Service was fantastic, ambiance was quiet. Food was spectacular, would definitely go back.
google avatar

Lecia F.

Yelp
Excellent takeout from Burma Berkeley. No noticeable difference from Royal Rangoon, yummy as always. Had the tea leaf salad, mango tofu, and green beans (+chicken). All delish.

Chef C.

Yelp
So much better the Burma superstar! Everything here is amazing! The food is great, I mean truly insanely good. Every dish is put together beautifully and is bursting with flavor and spices. The drinks are great too; get the coconut. The people here are so kind and nice to their customers and the food comes out faster than any other restaurant in Berkeley. The vibe is great; the only caveat is that everyone sits in the back so it looks depressing upon first glance, but once seated the ambiance is on point. Truly, the only thing holding this place back is location.
google avatar

Kyle K.

Yelp
We were blown away by friendly, quick service and some amazingly tasty food and drinks. Shout out to the Samosa salad for being beyond delicious, and the Tea Leaf salad was fantastic too and came out within a couple minutes of us ordering it. We had two mocktails - I'd particularly recommend the Mint Lemonade, made with lemon juice and syrup, and hit the spot as completely refreshing.

Kevin Tun T.

Yelp
Food and portion size was great, very delicious and well made dishes. I recommend the Burmese pork curry. Service was great, very attentive and polite. A little pricey, but worth the price.
google avatar

Ajitha M.

Yelp
Great new addition to Berkeley! Best Burmese spot I've been to in the area. Got the palata coconut chicken curry, lamb curry and basil chili chicken and all of them were excellent. Ambiance was great, big spot good for big groups. Lovely waiting staff.

Raymond S.

Yelp
Nicely set up restaurant with a good amount of space. Full bar. Service was very friendly. Nice place for a little date night or family dinner. Food was great. Had the palata with lamb curry, tea salad, Burmese fried chicken, mohinga, pork curry, and dry curry swai fish with coconut rice on the side. Desserts was the fried coconut pudding and the sticky rice. Desserts all come with a scoop of ice cream. The palata was delicious version of paratha with a bit of curry. Their curry is very mild in flavor. Tea salad is great. Mohinga was nice and light curry rice noodle soup with catfish. Fried chicken is nice and crispy in a sweet chili sauce. The pork curry was similar to the lamb curry and went well with rice. The dry curry swai comes with green beans and okra. I'd get everything spicy next time. We did get everything curry so will try other things next time too. The coconut pudding was delicious crispy outside with a really soft custard inside covered with condensed milk. The sticky rice is subtly sweet. Each dessert comes with a scoop of ice cream although I'd go with vanilla.

David D.

Yelp
This place is nice inside and the food is fantastic. Some of the best Burmese food I've had. The food was served fast and the staff were very friendly.
google avatar

Yangu S.

Yelp
The food looked so delicious i forgot to take a picture before eating my favorite was the chilli chicken with fried rice and the red chilli sauce. Iam still salivating thinking about it. Definitely a must try!!!! The food was so good and the staff made the experience even better. I am a really picky eater yet every single dish here was devoured (if youre looking for a good environment, fine dining place with affordable prices...this is it)

Jake J.

Yelp
We've dined in and done take out 3 times now and experienced all around superb flavors with gracious service. Highlights were Mint Jalapeno Chicken, Eggplant in Garlic sauce, coconut rice and the fried rice with extra egg. Also be warned about the hot sauce, it's the real deal, packs a punch and goes excellently with everything.

Jane D.

Yelp
I was excited to try this new Burmese restaurant, but was disappointed in the food. The 2 hot dishes we ordered were not hot, but barely warm. The second one was particularly surprising since they had forgotten it and implied they would be starting to make it once they realized their mistake. Also, the rainbow salad, usually a favorite, was served already mixed together rather than assembled at the table, as I've always experienced elsewhere. As a result, it didn't feel as fresh as I'm used to. The wait staff were kind and well-meaning. Our main server seemed unsure of himself and hopefully will grow more confident over time.

Evangeline I.

Yelp
Fast friendly attentive service with nice ambiance and yummy food. Place is large. It wasn't too hard to find street parking.

M. N.

Yelp
An adequate dinner, but not something that I or my two companions (who have been quite enthusiastic about all of the ~20 places we've dined together) are inspired to revisit. Our server was nice. The ingredients seemed fresh and of good quality. The food lacked the brightness and spark of the former Royal Rangoon or even Burma Superstar (where I ate earlier this week in Alameda). I had the mango salad and the samosa salad and I am guessing that it was fresh lemon juice that would have fixed it. My companions had the curried chicken and the garlic veggies, and the presentation of their dishes could use some visual improvement. Not one of the dishes inspired a return trip. People who like their food spicier may find that the spiciness makes up for the lack of spark, but plenty of restaurants include Royal Rangoon adn Burma Superstar manage flavor without relying on spicy. The fresh young coconut was good, just like at Royal Rangoon. The music is not loud, but was quite noticeable. The vocalist's singing was characterless. More importantly, the music selection actively caused cognitive dissonance: When I was seated, the song was a truly mediocre cover in a language foreign to me that I'm guessing is Burmese of... I'm not kidding (it wouldn't occur to me to make this up, though if I ever write a romantic comedy, it will feature as part of their disastrous first date)... All Out of Love by Air Supply. When we were getting the check it was the same mediocre singer covering... Eye of the Tiger by Survivor. It's so odd it's funny; I almost want to give an extra star for the cheesy music, but don't want people to think the food warranted 4*. I hope they'll refine their flavoring for the like-it-mild crowd. I really, really miss Royal Rangoon.

Chris T.

Yelp
Burma Berkeley is finally open! Since Burma is our home country, we can tell you that the food was delicious. It's one of the best Burmese restaurants in the Bay Area for authentic taste and quality of food. We've tried most of the Burmese restaurants throughout the Bay Area. Service was good, but since its opening week, there were not too many customers. But I know this place is going to get very crowded! Interior is nicely remodeled and very spacious. This is the 3rd location for the owner, who also has restaurants in Dublin and Sacramento. He was very kind and visited our table to thank us for coming to his restaurant. We want to thank him and his staff for opening the Berkeley location! We plan to stop by often, to try all the dishes.
google avatar

Ash C.

Yelp
We went there last night, our first visit, and a terrific meal. Or waitress was kind and attentive, the cocktails were great, and the lamb rabat and pepper beef were

Vivian Q.

Yelp
Best Mohingha (Burmese fish noodle soup)in the Bay Area. The very first bite of this Mohingha almost brought me to tears, a flashback of my Auntie Hannah's homemade from scratch Mohingha. It is so delicious and authentic, no words can describe the taste, feel and texture. Gotta try and experience Burmese flavors.
google avatar

Tara B.

Yelp
Finally a true Yelp gem. Ugh, it's been awhile that I've tried something and am 100% certain that I'll be back! It hit on every note including quality, flavor, and customer service. Will be my Burma Superstar replacement since I'm not really into their newer fusion menu.

David C.

Yelp
Wow! What a find. This new spot popped up on Yelp today and I'm glad it did. It did not disappoint! Beautiful, cozy space. Very comfortable. We enjoyed the chicken lettuce wraps -so fresh and flavorful, and the Basil & Dried Chili Beef - which was savory and delicious. Service was prompt and attentive. We'll be back!

karen d.

Yelp
We just had such a nice birthday dinner for my friend at Burma Berkeley. Forgot to take photos, but we had the lettuce wraps, tea leaf salad, eggplant curry, and garlic noodles (mostly vegetarians, and it wasn't difficult for a party of 4 to share). Everything was really fresh. We also had Shwe-Gyi (cake) which came with a side of mango ice cream. They brought it out with a huge celebratory sparkler. Very kind staff. We were also able to park in front of the restaurant, which feels like a rarity in Berkeley.
google avatar

Kelly M.

Yelp
Amazing Burmese Food. Loved everything. Nice seating area with clean booths. Will go back for sure!
google avatar

Hersh G.

Yelp
We absolutely loved it! The Burmese-style lamb curry, the palata w/ coconut chicken curry, and the basil chili chicken were all phenomenal. The spice level was excellent and service was great. Will definitely be coming back.
google avatar

Marie N.

Yelp
The food is delicious! We live nearby and are always looking for good take out options. This is definitely now at the top of our list. It was super easy to place an order online and things that are gluten free are clearly marked (which is a big plus for us). The coconut rice was really yummy and the Dry Curry Shrimp was really flavorful. We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Nicole I.

Yelp
This is my first time trying Burmese food and all I can say is 10/10 recommend if you want to try it as well. I ordered a Tea Leaf salad which is rich in flavor, the palata with coconut chicken curry which was so yummy and the bread was so soft, the basil dried chilli beef is my favorite dish so far, and don't forget the Burmese ice tea! The service was very quick and staff was very friendly and inside the restaurant was a cozy vibe I would definitely be coming back soon!

L R.

Yelp
My friend and I had a wonderful lunch here today. It was the best tea salad I have ever. had and the garlic noodles were delicious. My friend had the Burma noodles and also found them delicious. The staff were all friendly and attentive and the ambiance was lovely and relaxing. Even the music was great and not intrusive. I highly recommend Burma Berkeley.

Sonia K.

Yelp
Really great food, atmosphere and service. I was so happy to see this new Burmese restaurant in Berkeley. It was sorely needed.
