38 Essential Restaurants Around Atlanta, 2025

"In business since the 1940s, this Michelin-recommended Vine City soul food institution on Atlanta’s Westside serves some of the city’s best fried chicken, alongside an assortment of other Southern meat-and-three staples. The fried chicken at this James Beard America’s Classics award winner is marinated for 12 hours, hand-breaded, and fried. If that isn’t enticing enough, get the smothered version, which is topped with pan gravy." - Eater Staff

Google
Busy Bee Restaurant is a stable in Atlanta. Good soul food. It's carry out only. The prices have gone up alot.

LaKeisha S.

Yelp
We were in town for a conference from Maryland and this restaurant came highly recommended. Although it is carry out only, the service was phenomenal. The server that took our order was amazing. We had a large group and she didn't miss a beat taking our order and getting it exactly right. The person that recommended the restaurant to us, didn't give it enough kudos in our opinion. The food was amazing. It was fresh, hot and delicious. When we're in Atlanta again, we will be sure to stop by.

Yelp
Busy Bee kinda saved my Saturday. Got pretty drunk on a Friday night and woke up craving something delicious. Looked up the reviews for Busy Bee and said ok this might be the one. I made the right call no question. The Catfish platter was insane. Loved every bite of the Catfish, perfectly seasoned and fried. I couldn't get enough of that broccoli Cheese casserole though, easily one of my favorite sides and their version was absolutely fantastic. Mac & Cheese was great as well but the sweet potato pie? Had me feeling like I was back at my mom's place. Entire pie for only 18 bucks was a STEAL! Ordered the wings as well and they were delicious as well. Got that with fried okra and rice and gravy. Loved the okra but hated the rice and gravy. Had to be at least 1 thing I didn't like right? Lolol. Whenever I'm back in Atlanta I'll be back to get a tub of the broccoli Cheese casserole

Yelp
I'm in Atlanta for the NRPA Conference and we Ubered to Busy Bee Cafe for some good food! They only do takeout, so that was a bummer. However, the food was on-point!! Everything was well-seasoned and tasted amazing!! Thank you for feeding a hungry woman for lunch!!
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered 3 pieces of chicken wings and they gave me 5! Fried chicken tasted like mom's cooking. Not overly coated nor greasy. Great food! No dinning allowed.

Yelp
Idk how or why it took me so long to try this place but now that I have oh I'm hooked. I order the chicken and waffles a d everything was so tasty and fresh. The employees were super nice and worked quickly tk get everyone's food out. I do wish they had a sitting area so you can enjoy the food there but everything is to go. It is on the smaller side but a couple tables would be so clutch. Can't wait to go back

Yelp
Busy Bee needs to wash their collard greens, which were delicious, much better than they did when I ordered them!! There was a worm in my greens. I am so truly happy I saw it before I ate it. It looked like a bumble bee at first but once I put it to the side I could clearly see it was a worm that looked just like the collard greens. I was disgusted and couldn't finish my delicious meal. I ordered fried whiting, potato salad, black eyed peas, and collard greens without a worm. I had heard great things about Busy Bee Cafe, so I was excited about going there for the first time, and now unfortunately for the last time. I picked my order up because they don't allow you to eat inside. That was completely fine. The ladies who helped me and gave me my order were very nice and gave great customer service at the door. The food was really enjoyable but I can't get over the worm, so I can't recommend it to anyone else. I do understand that some times we may find a critter in our veggies, but I'm good and don't need extra protein in my food.

Yelp
Busy Bee Cafe is take-out only and no bathroom available. It was extremely busy on a Sunday night taking an hour to get the food, but we were in no hurry and it was worth the wait. Crispy fried chicken and loved the broccoli n rice side with the fried okra. Oh and the peach cobbler was delicious. Friendly staff who were supper overwhelmed with all the uber orders at the end of the night. Great food, so much more I want to try!

Yelp
I read about The Busy Bee Cafe on the Michelin website and was so excited to try it while visiting Atlanta so I made it a point to come here. It has loads of accolades and reviews but I did not have the best experience. There is no indoor seating anymore as they transitioned to take out only during COVID and never opened the dining room back up. I placed my order with the QR code and my food was supposed to be ready in an hour. Is that a long time to wait for one plate of chicken? Absolutely, but I was already here and was ready to wait for the best friend chicken in Atlanta. My food was not ready until over an hour past my wait time. Thankfully there was a pop up shade, otherwise we would have burnt pretty badly. The food was very good, but I recommend ordering your food well ahead of time. I was told by a local who orders Busy Bee regularly and he said he's never seen it this busy so maybe we just had bad luck. I understand the restaurant needs to address orders as they come, but it would have been nice if they served our single plate quicker than those coming to pick up multiple bags of food.

Yelp
Went here as part of a fried chicken tour and Busy Bee earned 2nd place in my ranking. Ubered there & disappointed to find out that they are takeout only. We just sat on the bench & ate. Busy bee's fried chicken was good but that that carrot soufflé was something to write about. Never had that before, I'm obsessed, I made it for my family friends and it was a hit! I would 100% order from here again.

Yelp
The build-up was great! A legendary soul-food restaurant! Established in 1947! James Beard Award Winner! Unfortunately, a great dining experience was not in our cards; it's take-out only, ...the dining room never reopened after COVID. We were greeted and ordered at the entry of the restaurant. Their wall of fame was filled with photos of celebrities and dignitaries who have dined at Busy Bee. I was not allowed to take photos of the interior, but I recall seeing photos of Coby Bryant and of Joe Biden. The food was wonderfully seasoned. I had smothered pork chop, collard greens and brocolli casserole. The two meaty chops were covered with a gorgeous brown gravy and nestled on a bed of rice, a classic meat & three. I acknowledge that inflation has increased the price of all foods, but the cost of three meals at a take-out restaurant appeared excessive. The food was excellent. Service was good. Ambience was lacking because of take-out only policy, so value suffered... 4 out of 5 stars.

Crassandra L.

Yelp
Ordered through DoorDash. The greens were okay, Mac was terrible, but my fish was fried perfect and so flavorful!
google avatar

Nesh ..

Yelp
This is one of those places hyped up for nothing. The whole meal was nasty. I actually looked at them to cater an event but went another route but after tasting this food I am so glad because I would've been highly disappointed and sad with nasty food at my event. Anywho...back to the meal...the aftertaste from that macaroni was indescribable and gross .The dressing WAS NOT good, the greens were awful and sour. I don't remember the taste from the chicken. You can tell from the photo, one scoop of everything and I was over this "meal". Maybe for someone else's tastebuds but definitely not for mine but looking at the reviews people really like this place but it's a helllllllll naw for me.
google avatar

Yelp
Came for the College tour, left feeling completely satisfied! When you visit a city, sometimes the best spots aren't in the mall! In town for an event and was walking to the car. In the air I could smell it. So I kept walking..... boom found it. Imagine soul food, the fast way! Fried chicken, greens, Mac'N Cheeze and yes candied yams! Can I get to the yams, sweet yams!!! Yes walked away singing that Masego song it was like fast food with I just love Atlanta's food! It's like a warm hug, from nana!

Yelp
This was absolutely horrible! I thought this was an Atl staple , it's far from it! I came here on Sunday, no parking, and you have to order outside. They aren't doing any indoor seating. Matter fact ,you can't go in. So unprofessional! The food was all nasty . It was kind of edible, but that's it.All of it was cold without flavor. The wait was an hour for my food. The smothered chicken had gravy that is definitely from the jar at your local grocery store. Dressing was mid,Greens were mid, and macaroni tastes like they thawed it out and it was gritty definitely not cheesy. Last, I bit into the cornbread, cold like it just got out of the refrigerator and dry . It crumbled apart in my car and half of it fell on the floor. I do not recommend this place, I'm not from here so I know what good soul food tastes like and this isn't it. I will not return. I ended up throwing it away because I was too far away to bring it back.

Yelp
We went here because we heard it was famous from almost every source haha and we can definitely say after trying it that though expensive it is worth trying!! So much bang for your buck. $24 was a bit more pricey but the food was enough for 2 to be stuffed! We got two wings and a half of fried chicken, baked Mac n cheese, fried okra, cornbread, and one of the best lemonades I've ever tried!! I would definitely recommend trying the food here! Warning it is only takeout. My mom and I did go inside and the lady in there was super nice and welcoming. We got our food right away and loved looking at the pictures on the wall that gave it a homey diner environment.

Yelp
Everything about this place is an absolute yes for me. In town for a conference and we studied up on best places to eat. Our study session was well worth it because we found The Busy Bee Cafe. If you order in person, expect a bit of a wait for your food. Somehow we showed, ordered, and only waited for about 15 minutes. I think this is the exception! The lady taking our order was absolutely lovely! This place was hopping, rightfully so, we absolutely enjoyed it all. (Let's talk about that peach cobbler!! Drool.) I suggest ordering online prior to your arrival. Mac and cheese, yes please Crispy, delicious chicken, yes please Tator salad, yes please Cornbread, twist my arm Peach cobbler, ok, if I have to :) Collard greens, don't have to offer me twice Do yourself a favor and don't look any further, go on, get going. Place that order.

Yelp
Take out orders only. You can order online or in-person. I had the fried shrimp plate with baked Mac n cheese and mashed potatoes ($22). Also ordered the broccoli & cheddar casserole on the side ($7.50), peach cobbler ($12), and blackberry cobbler ($12) for dessert. I loved the sides; the broccoli and cheddar in particular was a fave. The shrimp was good and I liked that they're de-veined however, the batter on the shrimp would fall off. It wasn't ideal for dipping into the tarter sauce. Peach cobbler was delicious!! The blackberry cobbler was a bit to tarty for my taste. I'd definitely return to try more dishes. Parking is available in front. Service was friendly and welcoming.

Yelp
I have had BBC as both takeout and now catering. The takeout order was about two years ago. Everything was delicious and well-seasoned but no complaints. Based upon that, I thought to use them to complete my holiday meal plans. It was my first time hosting. I ain't gonna lie, the bird intimidates me. I got the sides all day but did not want to risk the main dish on an amateur mistake. So, I tried BBC's catering options. First red flag - the website would only allow me to choose one date for pickup. After a few calls and a visit to the restaurant, I was able to place my order. I had to type my delivery date into the comments. Duh! (in case you missed my sarcasm, this is pure bafoonery. Who builds a site like that!?!?!) 2nd red flag - Well, maybe this was a caution flag. I received a confirmation email. Then, sometime later, a cancelation email. Quick phone got that sorted out. I even confirmed my order and pickup time. 3rd red flag, aka The Beginning of the End. As I was busy with prep, I sent my brother to pick up our order an hour before the scheduled time. Upon arrival, he finds other customers who had been waiting for HOURS on their orders. He is told to come back at 7 PM. He does, and the place is closing down. There's like 2-3 staff left. Lady greets him with, "Baby, we don't have your food." That's right, no turkey. They did give him the gravy and potato salad we ordered. BBC knew when we first came that they had accepted payments for more orders than they either planned to or could purchase and/or prepare/cook. They knew there was no chance we were getting a bird from them. They were just setting our dinner up for failure. Later that evening, the owner or catering lead called and apologized. She offered a full refund (received) and a full Christmas dinner on them (ain't no way I'd fall for that twice). After this experience, I came back to Yelp to see what others had posted. Come to find out, they've been pulling this stunt for YEARS. Those reviews are visible by searching for "catering." Basic math is key to successful catering. If you sell X turkeys, you need to purchase, prep, and cook X + 10% of X. BBC should not offer catering. Period. They've certainly lost a customer in me and my circle of influence.

Yelp
I can't believe it has taken 2 years to post an Outstanding Review for The Best Carpet Cleaning Service in town!! My sincere apologies. You deserve nothing less than The Best!) Walter Thomas is the wonderful professional who owns and operates an incredible carpet cleaning service. Upon my discovering Busy Bee Carpet Cleaning I no longer have any interest looking further. Walter's high standards are applied to his business and we are the lucky recipients. THANK YOU Walter for being such a wonderful gentleman who provides our community with this Top Notch carpet cleaning service. Sylvia Esparza

Yelp
Came here on a Friday afternoon with an out of town friend. We ordered online about 20mins before we got there and although it said an hour, the lady taking orders when we got there had our food out within 10 mins. There are no tables or chairs, it is completely take out/delivery only. I thought there would be picnic tables, but since we were headed to the zoo after, we just took our food and ate there. Highly recommend! The fried chicken was perfectly seasoned with a not too heavy coating, which was delicious! The chicken was moist and the skin crispy. We got a half chicken plate and a vegetable plate to share along with a blackberry cobbler. It was more than enough for 2 people to share! The Mac and cheese and the mashed potatoes were the best of the sides we got, but all were tasty. Will def be back!
google avatar

Equana D.

Yelp
Whenever I open my UberEats app it's strictly to order from this restaurant. I'm not a big fan of delivery apps but Busy Bee's packaging is the best (tamper proof) so it relaxes my fears. The food is absolutely delicious and well packaged! I've thoroughly enjoyed the fried wings, pork chops, cabbage, collards and carrot soufflé for at least 2 years now. The only thing I don't care for is the cornbread and yeast rolls. Portion size is great except when getting add ons. I paid $6 for a tiny container of cabbage. Deducted a star for that but overall I love this place!!

Yelp
Food: 8/10- The catfish was flaky, the okra was crispy, and the broccoli and cheese casserole were pretty cool. Mac and cheese was cool too. Ambiance: It was raining, hot, and crowded outside. No inside access Service: Nice people, but I will NEVER come to Busy Bee again. We ordered online and it said a 45-minute wait... cool! We waited for 45 minutes and got to the door, the lady talking about it would take 1 hour to an hour and a half. FOR WHAT??????? Finally got the food and my order was wrong. Smh Thanks but no thanks.
google avatar

Yelp
My goto is the veggie plate and strawberry shortcake cake. The greens are top tier. The green beans are quality, Mac n cheese is good, broccoli cheese casserole, baked beans has a lil ground beef, and the Strawberry Shortcake cake is kinda new and a must try. Only thing to look out for is it's kept very cold and should be left out a bit to defrost. Once thawed it might've the best Strawberry short cake I've had. The service is always good and I like the take out model. Order online and show up for the eta they give.
google avatar

Sheree W.

Yelp
Takeout only. Food was delicious, hot, and plates were good size. Definitely a must try if in the Atlanta area.
google avatar

Dee R.

Yelp
OK I've been hearing about this place since prior to the pandemic. But I've always kind of avoided it because I've heard the lines were long. They catered for my job. And I know it's hard to judge a place based on the catering. But everything was just ok. The macaroni and cheese was incredibly salty. But the fried fish was good. The chicken, I feel like it wasn't cooked in the middle. So I didn't even finish it. I didn't want to get sick. The size of the fish as well was good. I don't know if I would go back again, but it is an Atlanta staple. So you have to at least try it once
google avatar

Yelp
The food is delicious . Good soul food. Mac and cheese is good also yams. Fried chicken is delicious. James Beard Award winning restaurant If you know you know.

Yelp
Located at 810 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SW Atlanta, GA 30314. This traditional Soul Food restaurant was established in 1947 and is still going strong 76 years later. Busy Bee catered our 2023 Juneteenth work lunch and everything was mouthwatering. Please came back for seconds. We selected Meatloaf, Fried Chicken, Baked Chicken, Collard Greens, Macaroni and Cheese, Potato Salad, Candied Yams and cornbread muffins. For dessert we had Red Velvet and Key Lime Cake. The service was a bit slow for me. Our order was scheduled for pick-up at 11:00 AM but it wasn't ready until 11:30 AM. Soooooo, if you in a hurry, don't be. As the good books says, patience is a virtue. Just know you'll be waiting for about 30 to 35 minutes. The interior of the Cafe was nice and clean. Everyone was busy preparing orders. You cannot dine inside. They are only fulfilling to go orders. Also the parking lot has limited parking but there is additional parking next door to the cafe. I will most definitely eat hear again. The food was delicious and I will definitely recommend this cafe to my friends and family.
google avatar

Kiki V.

Yelp
Very mixed quality. The texture of the fried chicken was incredible: perfectly juicy and crispy. The mac n cheese was deliciously cheesy. The candied yams weren't too sweet and actually tasted like vegetables. The cornbread dressing had a smooth texture and had great spices. But all the food was so salty, and had a metallic aftertaste from the cheap iodine salt used. The green beans tasted like they were canned. The cornbread was dry and crumbly and didn't taste like corn at all. The peach cobbler was sickly sweet with a soggy drenched crust, also like it came from a can. The drinks were pure sugar with no flavor. Overall, the price was high for the portion size. Renovation at the moment means that they are only available for delivery. Prepare for a long wait.
google avatar

Debbie S.

Yelp
This place may be small but the taste is mighty big! The wait may be long however well worth every tasty drop of deep southern goodness! Recommended with a gold star behind it. Worth all the wait in the world.
google avatar

Sandy P.

Yelp
Operating as take out only & your wait is a long time, over 40min. Food was good, a bit over hyped, but for some it might be the best thing ever. *yelp wants longer reviews... Ain't nobody got time for that! So here are a couple of sentences to please the people of yelp who think that people need to keep reading reviews instead of getting on with their lives. If you want us to write longer reviews, then pay us Elite status was great pre pandemic, but now it's whatever & people ramble on & on, hehe, exactly like this paragraph.
google avatar

Eddy D.

Yelp
Food was mediocre to say the least, they were "running late" when we placed an order at 11am for 11:45am pick-up as it is take out only. The lady at the door had an attitude that we needed to wait outside and they will call us when it's ready. Let's just say I am not going out of my way to come to here.
google avatar

Ambirr M.

Yelp
The service and food was decent not a lot of vegan options but it worked out. The place was clean and smelled nice
google avatar

Tina T.

Yelp
It's unfortunate when you go to a place especially one that's a staple here in Atlanta and you're greeted with terrible service. With it being to go only, there's very little time of engagement so I think it matters how you're greeted. The first impression is everything. I had an order that was roughly $300 the young lady that greeted me and collected my information for the order had locs and wasn't pleasant at all. As I'm waiting for my order outside the restaurant, instead of handing the order directly to me it was placed on a table as if I wasn't standing there to retrieve it. The food is always good, but it certainly matters how you're greeted whether you're dining in or not.
google avatar

Mitch C.

Yelp
Fried chicken. Dressing. Mac and cheese. Cornbread. Collard greens. Peach cobbler. Fried chicken was super moist, and not at all greasy. Collard greens were yummy. Everything else was okay. I got the peach cobbler and it's good, but I think I am more of a banana pudding girl. Take out only. But you can eat outside on the bench and table. I would advise that you just ubereats the food.
google avatar

Jamil E.

Yelp
This college favorite, known for its meat-and-three plates, has won a James Beard Award for good reason. The soul food here is both nostalgic and exceptional, with perfectly seasoned meats and comforting sides that evoke a deep sense of home. It's a true culinary gem that delivers hearty, satisfying dishes in a warm, inviting atmosphere. A must-visit for anyone craving authentic, award-winning soul food.
google avatar

Louis J.

Yelp
This was the PERFECT spot, especially for lunch in the middle of my workday. Easy to order, quick service, and super nice staff! Another spot in Atlanta that I had to visit it was SO GOOD!! The fried fish and baked beans were on point and really hit the spot.
google avatar

M G.

Yelp
This is a to-go spot. I missed that and had to sit in my car until the food was ready. The staff was nice, and a lot of people were getting to go order. I got wings, Mac & cheese and greens. It was mid...definitely not worth the price. However, the blackberry cobbler was soooo good. I would definitely return for that, but probably won't order food from here again.
google avatar

Darshell B.

Yelp
Great food, great customer service. My favorite are the smothered pork chops. My kids loved their chicken. My husband had the veggie plate and loved it! Great options for the entire family. Order ahead to avoid standing in line. People are not allowed to sit inside the restaurant. You have to take your food and go lol
google avatar

Matthew M.

Yelp
I order 2 meals through Uber eats and everything went very smoothly. A couple of items to note, this was my first time ordering from Busy Bee Cafe and using Uber eats. The fried chicken plate with yams, Mac and cheese and banana pudding were all scrumptious and delicious. My wife had the fried pork chops with carrot soufflé and collard greens. I tried them, and found them all to be SO DELICIOUS! I should also mention that even though I had the meals delivered, the fried chicken was so piping hot that I had to let it cool. Seriously, how did you pull such an incredible feat? Amazing job!!Finally, Busy Bee has great packaging and seals your meal for safety. Next time I'm in Atlanta, I will definitely be ordering from Busy Bee!

G D.

Yelp
The chicken was good, but the sides were not that great. mac n cheese dry as heck. The sides did not seem fresh probably left over from the night before there are much better places in Atlanta sorry busy bee
google avatar

Carol Lynn S.

Yelp
I had the chicken must have been a bad day It smelled good taste was just ok Service basic It has been around for a long time it is what it is lol

Yelp
Soul food always takes me on a nostalgic journey back to my childhood. From the rich aroma of fried chicken to the comforting taste of macaroni and cheese, every bite feels like a warm hug from my past. The flavors and textures evoke memories of family gatherings, where the table was always overflowing with love and laughter. Soul food isn't just about the ingredients; it's about the stories and traditions passed down through generations, making each meal a celebration of heritage and home. This is how Busy Bees makes me feel
google avatar

Alesha Q.

Yelp
I absolutely loved my food from this place. During the time we went, there was only a carry out option. The young lady taking orders outside was very personable and able to answer all of my questions regarding the menu. I ordered the fried chicken (white meat; could've been crispier, but good taste), collard greens (so good! I could taste the meat that it was cooked in), macaroni and cheese (it was average to me), and peach cobbler (crust was great! Peaches could've been sweeter). Overall, I'd visit and eat here again!

K D.

Yelp
The food was looking very good online. I said I wanted to get some soul food. I was in the Walmart parking lot. I said where I'm gonna get some from busy. Bees is directly behind me. Let me place the order. Tried the place to order 5:45pm. Couldn't do it online. Orders was already for you the next day. So I called in Talk to the lady and the lady said I can take your order. She placed me on hole and took 5 orders of people coming in the door heard everything that they ordered? And then some I'm still on hold. What is going on? I keep saying hello it now 15minutes that I'm on, hold listening to her. Take orders. So I said, let me just go in and place my order being that I'm on the phone still. And For 15 minutes, so when I walk in, it's about 5 people in there already waiting for orders and she says, yeah, do you want to order? I said, yeah, and she said, because you're looking at me crazy. I said, well, I've been on the phone for 15 minutes and over I've been trying to place order online. And over the phone then she said, well, you look at the menu with the QR Code. I said, I already know what I want. But the attitude was strong at 6pm you just missed me with that. I'll take my Money, and business somewhere else. It's 2025 I see. We still on that same thing.I'll try again in six months.Maybe it may be different!! PSI wonder, would Keith Lee get the same treatment if he did his orders over the file? And then walk in and try to get it. It's like I did

Yelp
Menu Favorites: (1) Fried Chicken w/ Rice and Gravy, (2) Baked Mac & Cheese, (3) Peach Cobbler, and (4) Lemonade. Least favorites: (1) Cornbread Muffin; it was very dry, and (2) Black-Eyed Peas. Visiting Atlanta for the weekend, we had to try the classic Busy Bee Cafe. We read that seating is limited, so we decided to order delivery. Most of the food traveled well, but the fried chicken wings (without gravy) we're not able to stay crispy - understandably. The seasoning in the breading was delicious. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that we paid over $80 for our 2 meal + 2 dessert subtotal (not including tax, delivery fees, and tips), and I just didn't feel that the food quality reflected a $40 per person price. Everything was GOOD and I appreciate the history of Busy Bee, but the prices were a bit much for fast-casual, to-go food.
google avatar

Tiffany W.

Yelp
I ordered with Uber Eats and I was so excited to get some dressing but I guess they ran out of it and instead sent me collar greens. The food was just not good. The food seemed rushed and it didn't taste like back in the day when the little older ladies were cooking in the back.
google avatar

Sammie D.

Yelp
I always make my way back! Last trip to Atlanta was 4 days, I went twice. The service is still amazing. The wait time was decent and expected when you order food that is freshly fried. The staff is always so friendly and welcoming. They've created a welcoming atmosphere that I enjoy. The lemonade is the best I've ever had. Much love to the recent Michelin award!

Gregory M.

Yelp
The food was terrible, entire meal was cold as if it was refrigerated the night before and microwave.
google avatar

Lai-Ling B.

Yelp
I can't believe I don't have pictures. I've been twice and can't find photos of either occasion... probably because it's so darn good that we dive right in. Hands down best fried chicken we've ever had. Sides are also delicious! Love the carrot soufflé, Mac n cheese and broccoli casserole. Keep in mind it's take out only and call ahead because they're busy. You won't regret going but you will regret not going!
