The 23 Best New Restaurants In Chicago - Chicago - The Infatuation

"The Taco Sublime team makes some of our favorite burgers and tacos. Where To Find The Best Pop-up Restaurants - Chicago - The Infatuation

"This excellent fried chicken spot operating out of Little Victories in Wicker Park rounds out the trio of resident pop-ups from the Taco Sublime team. Every form of Buttermilk’s golden fried poultry is fantastic—chunky tenders, caesar wraps, nacho-cheese-drizzled loaded fries, and giant sandwiches where the crunchy farmbird sticks out of the potato buns like Saturn’s rings. But chances are, you’ve probably heard of them because of their TikTok-viral caesar wrap. It’s also the reason there might be a long wait if you show up during peak dinner time, so get there early." - john ringor

Are These Chicago Restaurants Worth The Hype? - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Verdict: Unless your love for fried chicken is a “happily wait two hours for a table” type of devotion, plan for an early 5pm dinner to beat the evening rush. Buttermilk makes really good fried chicken, whether it comes wrapped in a creamy caesar wrap, between fluffy potato rolls with a dollop of mayo, or just as pure, unadulterated tenders. And thanks to the TikTok machine, this new menu from the Taco Sublime team (working in the kitchen at Wicker Park’s Little Victories) has been causing wait times of up to two hours. So if you want to see what all the buzz is about, get there before it’s prime dinner time. Or, wait a few weeks for the social-media-influenced farmbird fiends to lose some steam." - adrian kane, veda kilaru, john ringor, nick allen

The 8 Best Chicken Caesar Wraps In Chicago - Chicago - The Infatuation

"This fine specimen from Buttermilk, the resident kitchen of Little Victories, has some of the best CCW craftsmanship we’ve seen. It’s filled to the brim with plenty of crisp romaine, well-seasoned fried chicken bits, and pita chips that give croutons a day off. But despite its chunky appearance, it never collapses. It’s well-pressed, and the tortilla folding looks like it was outsourced to someone in Macy’s holiday gift-wrapping department. There’s a good amount of dressing, but the copious sprinkling of parmesan guarantees extra richness." - veda kilaru, john ringor

Google
Buttermilk is hands-down one of my favorite breakfast spots. The omelets are so good 🤤fluffy, flavorful, and actually filling and everything tastes fresh and well-made. If you’re a breakfast person, this place delivers. Pro tip: join the waitlist online before you head in. It can get busy, and this saves you time. Also❗️do yourself a favor and order the pancake side. Absolute must. You’re welcome. 🥞 📸 The Goat Omelet 📸Eggs your way

Google
Came here for brunch on a Sunday at 9am and it was busy, but fortunately got a favor immediately. This place has already become our favorite breakfast / brunch place. Service was friendly, and very quick! Got the Red rooster skillet, eggs Benedict and mocha and it was all fresh and delicious.

Paige J.

Google
It was a very busy Sunday morning and we had a party of 5. The wait was not very long for how busy it was and the food was amazing. My friend and I decided to split the Chicken Fried Chicken skillet and we were pleasantly surprised when it came out already split for us in our own skillet bowls! It was a lot of food for the price. Very well worth it and a great experience! Can’t wait to come back! The honey biscuit with the jam was fantastic as well. Below is the photo my side of the “split” skillet!

Google
I can’t believe this place is rated 4.3 stars and the crappy restaurant on my hotel is 4.4. This place is so good. Fast friendly service and the menu… I could eat here so many times trying different things. I wish I was in town longer so I could try more. Anyway, I started with a breakfast bloody and was not disappointed. The bloody itself was a little thick for my liking but it was still good. All the fixings that come with it are just fantastic. So good. I got the stuffed breakfast sandwich for my meal…. Wow what a generous portion of food. The flavors are fantastic. The loaded potatoes are so good and the sandwich was phenomenal. My buddy had the bickfast plate. The brisket looks like it’s seared but is so tender and falls apart. He said it was fantastic. He also really liked the pancakes. The salt and vinegar crackling are semi crisp potatoes with salt and vinegar flavoring. Not my favorite with breakfast, but still good. Service was great and attentive.

Mitchell W.

Google
Buttermilk was fantastic! The food was incredibly filling. Highly recommend the honey biscuits. The jam they come with is next level. The brisket skillet was juicy and cooked perfectly. The price was a little steep but the food and service made it worth it.

mc S.

Google
We arrived closer to 12 and waited about 20 minutes. At 12:30 their were plenty of empty tables. I tried a latte and it was good. I had the chicken skillet. It had lots of flavor. We also tried the stuffed biscuit. It was ok. The buttermilk pancakes were ok. I did enjoy the honey biscuit with jam. I would come back again and try a few other items.

Google
It's the real deal folks but not necessarily on the economical side. It's worth it though on occasion. Food is fantastic and restaurant is clean. Try the corn beef hash and fried green tomatoes:) Highly recommend.

André S.

Google
Good food, large portions, relative fast service and great servers. Highly recommend making a reservation in advance, they have an online system that helps, the place is not very big and always full.

Yelp
We have always had a great experience with breakfast at Buttermilk; we typically like to go close to the time it opens to beat the morning rush. The coffee is great and the menu portions are very large so plan to take some leftovers home. My wife was a couple weeks out from her pregnancy due date and we had a breakfast feast of the skillet, omelette, blueberry pancakes, and waffles. The food quality is top notch and the servers are upbeat and enthusiastic early in the morning. Can't wait to come back with our little one! Best, Charlie

Maggie W.

Yelp
Great food! I have been to this location twice not and the service is always great. Definitely call ahead! The decor is cute, simple. But please, for the love of all that is holy, stop putting your delicious fried green tomatoes on a bed of wet lettuce? WHY THO?! Top notch Ranch!!

Yelp
This is a solid choice for breakfast and lunch indulgence. Buttermilk has that farm kitchen, hustle and bustle, people catching up on gossip within a sea of sausage gravy, coffee, and syrup type of atmosphere. The staff and service is always nice. Their skillets, bennies (benedict), crepes, french toast, etc all have their own Buttermilk flare. I don't always eat like this so early because big breakfast make me go sleepy time, but it truly is hard for me to say "I'll just have a coffee" when I'm here. This place never disappoints. I found The Perfect Briskfast to be perfectly balanced. The smokiness and saltiness of the brisket paired with gouda sauce, crackling, potatoes, and eggs, and of course, big, fluffy pancakes, always hits the spot. Buttermilk, if you're anything like my wife and you don't think that I appreciate and notice the little things, you wrong for that. Your OJ is freshly squeezed, not from concentrate. Also, I can taste the hint of vanilla in your powdered suger-dusted pancakes. Save a booth for me guys, I'll be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Great service, excellent food, lots of options from which to choose. Standouts - honey biscuit (must have), corned beef hash. Coffee drink selection is awesome
google avatar

Sheila G.

Yelp
Food is made to order, service is good and fast. Very nice place! Plenty of parking. Good for small business breakfast or lunch.

Tierra SheReviewz Z.

Yelp
My mom and I came here for breakfast and it was packed. We didn't wait too long for a table and we were not disappointed. Plenty of parking. We were recommended the biscuits and they steal the show. They give you quite a bit of food and the service was so welcoming even when they were pretty busy. I would recommend.

Paul C.

Yelp
The selection is varied. They're all good choices. Everything I have had is delicious. The service is great. You will probably have to queue for a bit, but they'll text you if you join on their website, and the wait is worth it. It has a very busy, but cozy buzz that is typical of a great breakfast place. Do go.
google avatar

Yelp
Great breakfast place! We came here before we went to the game and did not let me down! My Choice: Not your everyday chicken sandwich / Chorizo and gravy biscuits / These plates are HUGE! you can definitely share (tip) they also have pressed juices, a bit pricey but are great! Different types of coffee drinks as well! Service was great and the place was packed so definitely a good sign! Noise means good food!! Thank you!

Yelp
Had a great brunch with friends on a weekend! We were seated right away and ordered coffee drinks that were fun and tasty. I had the avocado toast which was a generous portion and had a ton of fresh avocado mash. The flavor was bright and it came with a salad in the side. It was very satisfying. Prices are a little high but not outrageous especially for the portions. Service was great as well. It is loud inside but I do not mind that type of atmosphere for a busy breakfast spot. Will be back!

Yelp
Buttermilk was my first stop in the 'burbs after getting into town. My mother used to work in this area and would always talk about how good this place is. Moral of the story--mom is always right. I ordered the fried green benny with a side of pancakes...because when the restaurant is named "Buttermilk," you can't just not try the pancakes. My server was Leticia and she was super sweet and answered my questions about the menu. My food came out quickly and totally slapped. The Benedict was everything I could have asked for and the hollandaise was the perfect complement. The pancakes were indeed incredible and perfect. I also like that Buttermilk gives you a carafe of water so you don't have to bug your server for refills of it. A nice touch and a great experience overall!
google avatar

Tina T.

Yelp
I ordered the Towanda Omelet with Jalepenos on the side. I also had 2 slices of wheat toast on the side. The toast was fresh, warm, and lightly toasted. The whipped butter spread on it was delightful. The omelet was dense and very filling. The portions were quite large. I could only finish half and needed to pack the other half to go. The remoulade crema was a nice rich flavor while the bacon gave the omelet a nice texture. The staff was chipper and friendly! There was a nice morning bustle. It felt nice being among many patrons enjoying their breakfast. The restaurant felt bright, open and clean. The benches were a little unwieldy to get in and out of, but overall had a positive experience.
google avatar

Asil A.

Yelp
We ordered the chilequilles with chicken chorizo. Very tasty! The service took long but we didn't mind. Fairly priced. The tres leches French toast was disappointing. It's just two pieces of white bread with caramel sauce and coconut. I hoped they would be dipped or drenched in milk the way actual tres leches cake is.
google avatar

Lori B.

Yelp
The food was nasty and expensive. I ate one bite and was done! The food was also cold when they brought it out!!
google avatar

Ngoc-Diep P.

Yelp
We were seated super quick for a party of 5 The staff were friendly and super nice Portions were HUGE, plan on sharing. They charge a $2 split meal fee but don't worry, the portions are so large, you won't leave hungry Super cute and modern space. Great for all groups and ages. Food was fresh and delicious. Definitely would come back and recommend
google avatar

Yelp
Big disappointment Stopped in for some breakfast and it was extremely busy. I'm ok with busy but it's how staff handles busy under pressure and they don't handle it well. The server couldn't have been less friendly and when asked for an item it was like she was being bothered. I didn't eat because of her attitude but 3 others in my party had a light bite. As you can see my reviews are rarely negative but it he visit here was a tough ride. I will stop in on a less busy day to give it one more try I'll let you all know how that goes
google avatar

Yelp
I used to love this place. But, this was the second time here that food was not good. Eggs looked weird and tasted like if they were not 100% eggs. The service was too slow.. when we checked in the lady never stated how long would it be. After 65 mins they said it would be another 40 min. But, mention if we wanted to sit outside it can be now. I Don't understand why didn't they mention this since the beginning.
google avatar

Reema G.

Yelp
We love us some brunch and had such an amazing experience at Buttermilk. Pro tip, make sure to join the waitlist prior to coming in. It makes everything quicker and you can just wait in your car until it's your turn. We came on a rainy Saturday morning and surprisingly the place was packed. Our wait time was maybe 15 minutes. We ordered the honey bun pancake and the chorizo biscuits. Both were absolutely delicious!! Beware, the portion sizes are huge! We took it to go and are still eating our leftovers. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Allie A.

Yelp
*4.5 stars* Really good, popular, packed brunch spot! The portions are huge and the food was really good. My party and I had eggs, pancakes, apple gouda sausage, corned beef hash, bacon, a parfait, a honey butter biscuit and GF pancakes and we really enjoyed it all. The honey butter biscuit was my favorite, it was sooooo delicious. Oh, and the fresh squeezed OJ was good too. Service was good as well. Put your name on the waitlist before going because this place gets packed! Highly recommend.
google avatar

Rerajitha M.

Yelp
**4.5 stars** There is always at least a 60 minute wait during the weekends, so make sure to get on the waitlist early!! The food tasted amazing as always! I got one of their special drinks - Maple black sugar bruleed latte. It was good, tasted the maple but nothing else much. We also got the specialty french toast - bourbon cherry french toast, it was amazing, the cherry jam was soo good. We also got the Alabama hot chicken benny - the fried chicken was soo crispy and light, almost like tempura. And the scallion biscuits were soo crispy flaky, the whole dish tasted phenomenal! Definitely one of our favorite brunch spots!
google avatar

Johnny R.

Yelp
I had a very pleasant and unique experience at this establishment. As a lover of southern biscuits and gravy, I was pleasantly surprised by the offerings. The gravy had a smooth and consistent texture with a great flavor. The biscuit was thin and stuffed with scrambled eggs and bacon. Seemingly, they wrapped the dough around cooked eggs and bacon and then baked it. Either way, I would definitely come again for this or one of their other biscuit and gravy options. The potatoes that came with the biscuit were perfectly cooked with thick cut bacon and green onion. This was a bit more savory than the stuffed biscuit, which added some contrast to the overall dish. The chicken sausage was a bit disappointing, especially since I thought it might have been house made. Therefore, I'd say to not get the chicken sausage as it was seemingly the same thing I have gotten from another store. Service was pretty quick even when full and a coffee carafe was provided for refills when wanted. It does get loud here with all the people that they can fit. I recommend this place for a great breakfast or brunch.
google avatar

Julie R.

Yelp
i love buttermilk so much. i've been here so many times and i have to say my favorite dishes are the cinnamon roll pancakes, chilaquiles, and potatoes. it's always so packed though so definitely get on the wait list like an hour before.
google avatar

Suzanne O.

Yelp
This place is good, but it just doesn't stand out to me... I want something to stand out amongst all the breakfast options around now and I just don't have that here. It's a solid restaurant and you'll be full and satisfied, so you really can't go wrong!
google avatar

Jen K.

Yelp
Giant portions. Extensive coffee/espresso menu. Always bustling and loud. Parking lot is always packed. Their booths are more private than their tables. There is a strict 90 min policy for all tables. We were asked to kindly open the table after our time was up though there was not anyone waiting. Their Buttermilk black van was parked in the handicapped spot for the duration of our breakfast, even though the hostess said they would be moving it "soon".
google avatar

Terri A.

Yelp
So glad I tried this spot! I was worried it was going to be "chain-ey", but it didn't feel that way at all. It was packed on a Friday morning and everyone seemed happy. After much debate, I had the Tawanda. It was delicious. The pancakes were huge and I barely ate any, but it wasn't for lack of desire. I ran out of room! If you are visiting the Chicago area, definitely recommend.
google avatar

Ishani B.

Yelp
By far my most favorite breakfast spot in Naperville. The wait time can be an issue for people who do not have time at hand but it's worth it. They deliver fresh quality pancakes and skillets. I've never had a complaint about the food. Instructions or changes are well received by the staff helping us. I got myself the Holy Moly skillet with an upgraded side of specialty pancake- lemon blueberry. The chorizo was well seasoned and the correct temperature. Pancakes were soft and melt in the mouth delicious.

Ram V.

Yelp
Great breakfast! Huge portions. A bit on the expensive side but excellent service and ambience. Had the omelette with hashbrown
google avatar

Alonso T.

Yelp
Food portions are LARGE. Definitely recommend sharing. Chilaquiles were okay - the top layer was great and crispy but then the middle and bottom layer of tortilla chips were soggy. I also think they used too many tortilla chips. Our waitress was so friendly! No complaints here. The place is a good brunch place to check out. It's a pretty homey feel.
google avatar

Mariah L.

Yelp
Benedict was my favorite. Only issue I had was one of them was so smooth and delicious. The second was gritty, not sure what happened but the taste was fantastic in my mouth. The pancakes were HUGE!!!!! So soft and warm. Their pork sausage was amazing quality. Kids ate it up! I had a hazelnut latte. Loved the cup and it was the perfect temp. Ambience was very cute, but I didn't feel like I was intruding on others. Super modern looking.
google avatar

Emily M.

Yelp
Buttermilk is such a staple! They're always so busy on the weekends but they figured out like a weightless queue which is so nice. The skillets are absolutely to die for. And it's so cute and trendy in there. The outdoor patio is really nice in the summer.
google avatar

Katie N.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! I came here two days in a row because I liked their food so much. Biscuit sandwich - amazing and huge! I got it with ham, and it was delicious. My friend and I ended up splitting. (Keep in mind that they do charge a shared plate fee) Breakfast potatoes - seasoned nicely. Eggs I had the second time were a little watery. Honey biscuit - amazing! Also, they have a vegan and gluten-free menu available upon request.
google avatar

Kate H.

Yelp
Chicken fried skillet Honey bun pancake Mint latte The serving sizes here are MASSIVE. Every table I saw, including mine, left with at least one carryout box. The star here was the honey bun pancakes, which were fluffy with perfectly balanced sweetness. Delicious. Everything here is homemade, and the fried chicken was moist, but the skillet was just a little underseasoned. The latte was not great, and I'll definitely skip that if I come back.
google avatar

Alex S.

Yelp
This place is a bit far out but the biscuits alone make the drive worth it. The service was quick and friendly.
google avatar

Alejandra G.

Yelp
I only ordered coffee from here and I wish I had time to try out their food menu items. It was super busy but I went in on a Sunday so it made sense. Before going to the restaurant, I did check out their website there to see if they had a separate coffee menu and they did. If you want to eat in, you may have to wait or call for a reservation. But to order coffee, you walk in and there's an area in the back. I did have a to wait a little bit since they were busy but my order was taken and made in less than 5 min. Prices were reasonable. I got a small hot vanilla latte.
google avatar

Greg P.

Yelp
We came here for brunch and were not disappointed. It was a Saturday morning and despite putting ourselves on the waitlist we still had to wait a long time, almost 30 minutes. When we arrived to the restaurant I told the host to check us in. She asked for my name and said we're good to go. After that we had to wait about 30 minutes , it started clearing I'm out so I asked another host what's going on. She said we are next and I got a "you are checked in " message in yelp. This tells me the original host never checked us in and that is why we wasted a lot of time. So lesson learned if you ever come here using the yelp waitlist make sure you get the "you are checked in" messages after checking in because they might check in someone else if they mishear your name. Well enough of that, on to the good. We each got a cocktail and both were a hit. The spicy mezcal bloody orange was great, just a little spice and nice flavor. This place is lively and pretty loud like most brunch places, family atmosphere and very busy. There is plenty of parking as this restaurant is in a shopping plaza. For food I got the chicken friend chicken and my partner the butchers block omelette. Both were great, really taste but be warned they are super filling and the portions are huge. I'm the person that always finishes my meals but I could only get through like half. Our waitress was nice and overall other than the whole waitlist mixup this place is a hit.
google avatar

Angela T.

Yelp
Every single thing was amazing! Especially the Honey butter biscuits! My pancakes were huge! Keep that in mond Every single thing was amazing! Especially the Honey butter biscuits! My pancakes were huge! Keep that in mind while ordering! I love 3 hours from this restaurant but would drive back just for the biscuits! Must try !!!
google avatar

Lisa S.

Yelp
Food fit for a king and the whole castle too! Their portions are huge and delicious. The corned beef was fresh and LEAN. The pancakes fluffy and flavorful. The coffee hot and plentiful with my own pot. And the service was pleasant and timely. Our day started out perfectly with a meal at Buttermilk!
google avatar

Kathy M.

Yelp
This is an updated review: my third one to be exact. Buttermilk has become our go to. I typically get the same thing every time but every time someone is in town I bring them here and I see their eyes light up at first bite. Not only is the food out of this world, the serving staff is so sweet and the ambiance is modern farmhouse adorable! If you have never been reserve a table or go early and expect to wait or go at an off peak time. I usually get the side salad, with their lemon dressing that I could drink, avocado toast, black bean burger, the fries r yum and dessert is one of the pancakes. As for the pancakes- they r humongous. I get the normal stack and bring some home. Honestly I like to bring them home but you can get a small stack on the side. No desserts in this place but I treat the pancakes like dessert. Love you Buttermilk! Thank you and grateful for you !!!

Lynn M H.

Yelp
Food is great. Service is too. Usually busy, but they have online wait list that works well.
google avatar

Anita M.

Yelp
Buttermilk used to be the crème de la crème in the Naperville area, but I just went back within the last month and it felt run down. The interior didn't seem upkept. It wasn't "dirty" but it didn't feel up to the standard that it used to be at. I also feel like the seating is awkward in some parts. There shouldn't be a 2 top squeezed in a corner behind a 6 top table. It made for service to be extremely slow. I've had faster service in the past on busier days. Thankfully, the food was still as delicious as I had remembered. I always love the menu options and the creativity behind them. Our food came before our drinks which was just a little strange. However, our waitress was extremely friendly/ kind. Service overall just felt a bit off and that could have been due to many reasons we could not see as a guest.

Eileen S.

Yelp
The waiter brought us our water within five minutes. Ten minutes later, he came & took our orders. In the meantime, two other tables were seated and their orders taken. About 15 minutes later, both of the other tables were served their food and we waited. Another ten minutes went by, still no food. I called our waiter who was rushing out of the room and asked where our order was. He said "2 minutes". He kept rushing by, bagging up leftovers for other tables and chatting with a woman & her daughter. We finally got our food 10 minutes later. Their food is good, but I hesitate to return because of the poor service.

Mala R.

Yelp
Great food and menu choices. Wish the restaurant was larger because there is always a long wait time. It is also very noisy because there isn't much room between tables.
google avatar

Kristal B.

Yelp
I would drive the hour back to this location for the biscuit alone. It was the most delicious, melt in your mouth, buttery biscuit I have ever tasted in my life....and everything was good but the biscuit??? I have dreams about that biscuit.

Sheena L.

Yelp
Traveling for work and stopped here for breakfast. Ordered an omelette with ham and cheese. The ham was spoiled... waitress remade it, without ham as I requested but the additional charge for the ham was still on my receipt. I had to ask to have the ham removed. The potatoes and omelette were flavorless.
google avatar

Ehab K.

Yelp
I love this place. First time eating at this restaurant, and I was impressed. From the food to the waitress it all exceeded my expectations. The food was very tasteful and amazing. I wish they had more options of meat for people that don't eat pork, but none of the less all the food tasted amazing. Their pancakes were fluffy and the scrambled eggs were delicious. The freshly squeezed juice was great! The waitress that helped us out was very helpful with the menu. And the food didn't take long at all to get served. The food was a bit pricey but the portions are very generous. There's a ton of parking around and it's wheelchair accessible. They do have some items on the menu for children.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow Wow Wow Everything great Moderately priced Great service Food service is fast Dining area is tight
google avatar

Maria N.

Yelp
Great and fast service, even if they were busy. Good food and huge portions. Two people can probably share one plate! The homemade honey biscuit is so soft and buttery, a must have! The latte was also yummy.
google avatar

Neilly B.

Yelp
Let's talk! This place is some pretty tasty food. The serving sizes are huge and the quality of food is spot on. My husband loves the hot chocolate. The pancakes are as big as your head but soo good. The place is modern and clean.
google avatar

Ixcel M.

Yelp
My husband and I went to this place that was our favorite for the chilaquiles. We ordered an extra plate because the portions were too big to share and they charged a fee for that. This had never happened to us before and I didn't even know that kind of fee existed.
google avatar

Olivia H.

Yelp
The honey buttermilk biscuits were the bomb (AWESOME)! I went to the one in Naperville Il. Yes it was all that!
