"The El Chino Grande breakfast burger is massive and chef Chris Yang knows it. Take one look at this behemoth — stacked high with a fried egg, a crisp puck of potato, bacon, and a flurry of cabbage slaw atop a teriyaki-glazed beef patty, all crammed between two buns — and you might think there’s no way one person could finish it in a sitting, though diners do. “It’s kind of my pride and joy,” Yang says. “I feel it’s the ultimate burger.”" - Lauren Saria

Yummy and cute! We have eaten here a few times on our occasional visits up to Memphis and it’s a great lunch spot! Quick and healthy, the food is always fresh and delicious. The staff is always so friendly and the environment is so bright and welcoming!

Cool little spot. Has some outdoor seating! Ordered the Basic breakfast. Came out fresh & within a few minutes. Portion was decent. Taste was good but, couldn’t been better. Bacon was nice & crunchy just how I prefer rather to oily, soggy & fatty! I would go back to try other options too! May be the not so basic ones have more flavor/ taste to them!

The food is phenomenal here. I got the brisket biscuit and smashed potatoes. Both were excellent. My wife got the 3 grilled cheese and chicken chili which was also fabulous. Definitely a place to go. Parking can be tricky though. They even have treats for our four legged children.

That was the best service, food, and overall experience I've had at a restaurant since moving here. All of the people working there were so friendly and seemed genuinely happy to be there. I loved the type of music that was playing and I'm so glad it wasn't blaring loud like it is in so many restaurants. The food was incredible! I got the 'brisket biscuit bowl' and my wife got the 'avocado toasted egg-in-the-hole' and a fruit cup. The brisket bowl tasted like a really tender and juicy pot roast. The bacon jelly melted on the biscuit and it was indescribably good. The avocado egg-in-the hole was super creamy and I love that they mixed the avocado with goat cheese. The fruit cup is well worth it too! Every piece of fruit was very fresh and perfectly ripe. I cannot recommend this place enough!!

You wanna know what southern comfort food is like? Southern comfort food is biting into a crispy hand breaded boneless chicken breast Tennessee Street Biscuit from By the Brewery. Southern comfort food is more than taste. At my first bite, I felt subtle joy settle deep in my soul. One of my favorite breakfast foods is a chicken biscuit, and I 🙋‍♂️haven’t had this feeling for several years since we lived in East Tennessee. It came with a thick homemade pickle slice and sriracha honey. I also made it a bowl by adding an egg and cheddar cheese. Our friends ordered a yogurt bowl and an avocado toasted sandwich. I enjoyed eating breakfast here, and it’s a place where the locals eat.

Everything we got was delicious. Everything our friends got was delicious. And the staff are super friendly!

Google
Food was delicious. I have been talking about those potato crisp things for two weeks. They were so good. I walked down for a quick lunch one day just to try it out. The egg avocado sandwich was so delicious that I decided to walk down to try the breakfast the next day. Chicken biscuit was great. Wish I had gotten it opened face. So I tried the brisket opened faced and really liked it. All of the little sauces were good too.

Google
Such a cute spot and the food will keep you coming back for more. The grilled cheese should be illegal, yes! It's that good. But honestly, so is everything else on the menu. We recommend it to all of our customers too ~ since we're down in the South Main district. Keep on doing what you're doing! It works :)

Yelp
When people say Memphis is underrated, this is exactly the kind of place they're talking about. This stumble-upon-it neighborhood cafe makes it feel like a local secret. The space is perfect for eating alone, as a couple or a small group. After you order, you make your own coffee or tea. It's so good! This place delivers on both cozy atmosphere and delicious breakfast/brunch experience. Whether you're planning a quick meal to-go or want to lounge for a lazy breakfast, this is your spot! We were both satisfied. Note: Though you make your own drinks, do not touch the to-go containers or you will get scolded. ‍

Yelp
By the Brewery is a new South Main staple that I'd recommend anyone try for breakfast or lunch. The gardeny urban atmosphere really worked for me, with cool terrariums and wall art decorating the place. Theres also a healthy variety of biscuits, tamales, yogurt, and other delicious items to choose from. The service was super quick too and they have really friendly staff.

Neek C.

Yelp
By The Brewery is a sleeper pick for a downtown breakfast. The parking is questionable. LOL! However the food and service is worth the question mark called parking. I can eat a pound of the smashed browns and a Tennessee Street biscuit without a problem. I also like the biscuit bowls. And the biscuits were good too. Bread is amazing.

Meg D.

Yelp
Cute little brunch spot near the riverwalk in Downtown Memphis! We tried a variety of their biscuit sandwiches and all were delicious (if a little crumbly). I loved their serve-yourself coffee bar with syrups, sugar, and milks. Their outdoor patio is the perfect place to sit and enjoy a nice Saturday morning

Michael S.

Yelp
Absolutely excellent! Great service! Quaint comfortable vibes! Food is packed full of intricate layers of flavor! Highly recommended!

Tarshe C.

Yelp
We had a great experience, The food here is pretty good. The Tennessee Street Biscuit (The Chicken and Biscuits) was awesome w/ the honey, cheese, and eggs added. My husband had the Brisket Biscuit, it's also very delicious. We added the Smashed Browns and Gouda Grits for sides, the Smashed Browns was of course my other favorite. The food is very flavorful and service was great as well. Staff here is extremely friendly and made great recommendations too. Don't let appearances fool you--the decor may be divey, and small but the food here is fantastic. This place is perfect for brunch or a casual morning breakfast. This place is a must try if you are ever in Downtown Memphis , I know I'll certainly be back again again to try something different each time ...

Kandis B.

Yelp
Food was pretty good... we had no real complaints. It's pretty much a self waiting place. You place your order at the kiosk with the server and then you tend to your own drink. They have coffee, teas and soft drinks available in a fridge near the front. Service was pretty quick. We came in on a whim with my parents. We all enjoyed our food. We didn't have any complaints beyond them being out of a few things. Overall, we enjoyed our experience. The place is cozy and clean with good offerings.

Yelp
I was seeking out a healthy and filling breakfast and I found the perfect spot. The Avocado Toasted is "thicc & tasty" with ample amounts of avocado, arugula, tomato, and an "egg in basket" on some premium bread.

Carla D.

Yelp
This cafe showed up on my search, and since it was pretty close to my hotel, I decided to give it a try. When I arrived, I was greeted by a staff member. The menu was on a large board behind the counter, so I looked it over. They had breakfast sandwiches, sides, coffee, etc. I wanted something simple, so opted to get a biscuit with jam, side of gouda grits, and an iced coffee. After I ordered I took a seat and was able to get some work done, since they had wifi. Everything came out quickly. I dug into the buttery biscuit and added some jam to it. Let me tell you, it was fluffy, buttery, and just plain delicious. Each bite was better than the next. I then tried the gouda grits. They were rich, buttery, and cheesy. The cheese was gooey. The coffee was robust and delicious. Prices were very nominal for what you get (IMO).

Yelp
Cute little eatery in what seems like an up-and-coming busy area. We weren't sure where exactly the Yelp directions were taking us but the walk wasn't unsafe or off putting. We were fine walking around getting to and from here on foot. Staff were helpful, attentive and super friendly. Cashier provided her recommendations and we ordered exactly what she stated was their go-to must try items. Though they were good at first, the more we kept biting into our dishes, the saltier they were. I Couldn't finish mine. Made me upset a bit since I don't like wasting food or money but I did my best to eat as much as I could but every layer of the sandwich was coated in salt. Coated.

Yelp
Spent my Saturday at By the Brewery located downtown Memphis. I ordered the Avocado Toasted "egg in hole". It was loaded with avocado spread, spinach, tomatoes and don't forget the egg. I also had a side of fruit which was delicious. The customer service was okay, it could've been better. The waiter did inform me about customers favorites and gave me a quick run down on the menu. By the Brewery is spacious, kid friendly and it's not too far from the River Front and Tom Lee Park.

Meme G.

Yelp
Great place to mingle and get a fresh variety of breakfast and brunch options with a hint of organic-y. Background music, very pleasurable staff and decor is refreshing.

Dianna S.

Yelp
This hidden eclectic restaurant makes me happy! It is such a quaint restaurant downtown located near the Riverwalk. It is one of my fav places to dine. The coffee is bold and strong. It is roasted through J Brooks. So so smooth. The food is very tasty and incredibly flavorful. I ordered the grit cake biscuit sandwich. Yummy for my tummy! I need to branch out next time since I did order that last time. It was so good. The place has so many options. Pleasantly surprised they have many gluten free foods for my niece. It is always a plus. Here are some photos from my niece. I forgot to take pics of my food. I was hungry! Tee hee hee.

Christina C.

Yelp
I enjoy coming here to grab a quick lunch! I love that they have spacious and clean patio seating. The staff is always friendly, and the food is good!!! Great portions, good value, and fresh ingredients. I've tried a few salads and a sandwich. Super casual place, but delivers in quality. I will say parking is a bit difficult (street parking), but usually I walk over, so it's not a problem for me.

Apples K.

Yelp
The brisket tasted like they used corned beef and boiled it. Very dry. We sat outside and the waitress gave us silverware from a bucket that was just already sitting outside with the bugs and flies. That is not sanitary.

Chelsey C.

Yelp
I love this place so much! I need to switch up my items when I go, its just so hard when the breakfast sammy is so good! So, my go-to is brewery basic. I get bacon, and scrambled eggs with a side of jelly. Delicious! Really fresh, warm, flaky, biscuits. I've sampled the avocado toasted and it was just as good. I do want to come back and try actual lunch here soon.. So tune in for a update later! On top of the breakfast being good, the oreo brownie is also a must. I highly recommend grabbing one to snack on later. Its soft and hard- from the cookie, and all the best things you could want in your mouth! I'm also a sucker for anything oreo, so they sold me pretty quick on trying it. Hard to say no when its right next to the cashier, too. But outside of the food, the staff is absolutely the nicest!! Me and a couple friends have brought our own champagne and Oj for mimosas and they welcomed it. ( since they didn't have a liquor license yet) Plus the inside is very well designed and super cute.

Sarah M.

Yelp
An absolute must try if you've never been. The biscuits are so strange but are delicious and cooked to perfection. My breakfast sandwich was phenomenal and filling, I got a side of fruit to go with it. We sat outside because we had our dog with us - but there are tables indoor and it's a small intimate setting. Parking is super limited - we walked there.

Katie N.

Yelp
Delicious breakfast sandwiches. Service was friendly. They use ghost river beer in their biscuits per the server.

Cory P.

Yelp
The club was cold. Bacon? Cold. Bread? Cold. Just an awful way to serve a club. I wanted to like this place, but it was very underwhelming

Nic H.

Yelp
Once I realized that no one was coming to feed me Caribbean food and mimosas on schedule, I decided to get out of bed and finally check out @bythebrewery. I was torn on what to order because everything sounded so good. I decided on the Avocado Toasted Egg in The Hole and was not disappointed!! I've found that a lot of places, especially when it comes to breakfast/brunch, don't 1.) give you an adult-size portion and 2.) season the food right, if at all. No issues here with any of that. I left full and ready to come back for more. They don't allow dogs on the patio, but they do offer to-go treats. Inside is small, but what they lack in space is made up for in great food and service. P.S. It's Tiffany's first week at the register, swing by and place an order with her!

Victoria J.

Yelp
Biscuits are very good, coffee is just drip and you can grab a milk or creamer and sugar. Their bowls are very good for lunch too!

jocelyn b.

Yelp
Delicious biscuit and brisket ! My chicken was a bit dry but hayyyy-Put an egg on it & that bacon jam !!! Loved the atmosphere! Service was great too ! I left my purse at the table and they got it back to me which was also super awesome

Courtney J.

Yelp
Terrible customer service from the owner/manager who claimed her name was Hanna. Please do not support and patronize this company. Rude customer service dry old burnt batch of grits at 8:40 am which is too early to sale old food. She didn't care and just blamed the issue on the cook. Do not I repeat do not patronize this business. She actually encouraged me to leave a poor review which I wasn't planning to do, I'm more of a word of mouth person so but hey why not, since it was encouraged.

Elsa B.

Yelp
I very rarely write reviews, but was motivated by the friendly service we received. The stand went the extra mile. It was the best service we encountered during our trip to Memphis. We had a 9-person group and the staff were very accommodating - helped us secure a table, kept checking on whether we needed anything, cleared plates, etc. And the food was great - fresh and delicious. An excellent place for brunch or lunch downtown. Everyone in our group from kids to adults was really pleased!

Erin M.

Yelp
I've been here before & the food is always lukewarm but the flavor was always good. But this particular day our chicken wasn't cooked. Instead of just simply cooking us another piece of chicken some rude white lady comes from the kitchen to tell us she's just gonna issue a refund. No alternative to another meat option. Nothing! Never returning!!!

Siobhan D.

Yelp
I'm so happy I found this gorgeous corner restaurant! I'd walked the mile from the Peabody Hotel on a Sunday to find the restaurant I'd planned to eat at is closed on Sundays. No worries! By the Brewery is absolutely adorable! It is bright, cheery, super clean, and offers so many delicious-sounding breakfast and lunch options, plus ice-cold cans of Diet Coke, phew! Staff is wonderful. Loved everything about my lunch today! Thank you!

CJ J.

Yelp
Been here numerous times for breakfast & lunch. Always great! Love the Egg in the Hole avocado sandwich. The bread on that sandwich is delicious. Portions are generous. Food always fresh. Place is spotless. Service always friendly & efficient. Atmosphere is cheery & charming. Nice patio.

Sonali D.

Yelp
What a cute brunch place! It's beautifully decorated on the outside and inside. A perfect place to be outside on a Sunday. The service was great. The employees there constantly checked on us to made sure we were okay. Coffee is self-serve, and they don't allow pets due to a biting incident. I got the new special they had: the Tiger Bowl with over easy eggs. It was so filling! I've come once before in the past and you also can't go wrong with their Avocado Toasted. They also have a tasty lunch menu that I hope to try in the future. Definitely check this place out for a girls brunch!

Maddy H.

Yelp
We sat on the patio and it was so cute! We ordered a couple of breakfast sandwiches and the biscuits were delicious! The staff was quick and so sweet!

Amelia R.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite breakfast spots! Order at the counter, cute atmosphere, and pretty quick service! The menu is fabulous with some unique items and a tailored menu. My go to has to be the deep fried french toast with sweet preserves or the tried and true egg in the whole avocado sandwich. There isn't great parking in the area so on a weekend you may have to walk to it. The seating is also pretty limited though they do have a few outdoor tables. The line can get long fast so plan accordingly!

JT D.

Yelp
A hidden gem. Excellent food from breakfast to salads and sandwiches. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Outside seating available. And even free dog biscuits. If you have not been, do yourself a favor and go.

Jillian L.

Yelp
Came at noon on Saturday. Ordered quickly and snagged a nice table outside. Restaurant is on the shaded side of the street. Coffee was nice and mild without acidic or burnt aftertaste; self-serve and very generous mugs. Food came out quickly: avocado toasted for SO and chick on the corner for me. Both were delicious. There were lots of other options that looked incredible so we will be back.

Brea R.

Yelp
Everything we tried was amazing! I especially loved the fried green tomato BLT and grilled cheese with brisket and bacon jam.

Adam H.

Yelp
Great place for a great biscuit and hot cup of coffee. Wonderful service and will be definitively come again.

L D.

Yelp
We ordered lunch for our bbq team while competing at Memphis in May. The customer service was excellent and the food was fresh and delicious (and that comes from professional cooks and food competition judges). Good portions and unique dishes. The prices were very reasonable. Lunch was so good that we ordered again the next day! We had the sandwiches and the salads. Highly recommend!

Audrey L. S. M.

Yelp
Best avocado toast I have had in Memphis so far, and I've tried a lot! Only did to go so far but service is great and saff is friendly.

Mimi T.

Yelp
Such a cute place for breakfast. Breakfast options were amazing. Had the avocado toasted and chick on the corner. Both were sooooo yummy! Fruit was fresh. Wish their coffee was a bit better, otherwise it would be five stars. Really cute decor, very clean, and great service

Alicia D.

Yelp
Great food but please cut your sandwiches. They're too large and messy to cut with plastic ware and when I try to do that the sandwich falls apart. They should be cut with a bread knife before you serve them.

Laurie M.

Yelp
Can't get enough of By the Brewery. Some of my top favorites are the brisket biscuit, the egg in the hole sandwich, and the chick on the corner sandwich. House made pickles! Yes please! Quick service, super cute inside and out, etc. All around great experience every time I'm there.

Jorja C.

Yelp
I love the vibes of By the Brewery! Amazing inside design and decorations. I live upstairs so it's easy to go to for a quick breakfast. The biscuits are AMAZING, 10/10. I went once for lunch and got the four or five cheese grilled cheese and sadly did not like it but can comment on it being a big sandwich! So it's a filling meal. I now go down for their fruit cups or breakfast if I'm able to catch it. I love how friendly the staff is and you must try their homemade ice cream, brownies & the dog treats also.

S H.

Yelp
The food was very good. Those potatoes! Great service. Very cute space. We were just driving through Memphis, stopping for coffee and breakfast. So happy we found this place. Grabbed an apricot bar for later down the road and Wow! Do not regret.

Sherri R.

Yelp
Brisket biscuit and delta smoked Gouda grits were very good. The staff was super friendly I liked the jar of dog biscuits for your pup. The doors to the kitchen are beautiful and the entire place was clean

Tiffani R.

Yelp
My fiancé stopped in here yesterday on our walk to the river. She stood inside and waited to be greeted and wasn't. I white couple came in behind here and the guys that was working there came out to greet them and ask them directly what he could help them with. He literally stepped around my fiancé. Sad! Blatant racism.

Kody B.

Yelp
Had to share a review of this place. I have eaten breakfast many places around Memphis but nothing has beaten this. Absolutely a hidden gem with an excellent staff and some amazing food. The brisket biscuit is cooked to perfection and the potato's were excellent. You will not be disappointed!

John A.

Yelp
If you're downtown, this is a must. I had the brisket biscuits with over easy eggs and gouda grits. I'll definitely be back.

Sarah L.

Yelp
This is by far my favorite breakfast spot downtown. Try the Avocado Toasted and you'll fall in love too!

Matt G.

Yelp
This was such a surprise in all the good ways. Great meal with joyful, friendly service. I had the BLT biscuit which is not exactly what you think but one that'll redefine BLT for all. I'll be back in my next trip into Memphis. Couldn't recommend it more. A must stop.

Sierra C.

Yelp
A great breakfast place! My family got the chicken biscuit. I added scrambled eggs and cheese on mine. Delicious and fast! There wasn't a wait. The sausage and cheese muffin biscuit is a MUST try.

James L.

Yelp
Easy menu choices. Probably the best biscuits I've ever had. Very reasonably priced. Friendly service. Definitely would come back!
