"By the Pound, F2T’s Capitol Hill deli with a hidden bar, owed $75,000 in unpaid rent according to court records. It seemed like it would close for good, but F2T said they’d brought on a new 'strategic partner' to help retool the space as Bar Justice." - Megan Hill

"By The Pound is temporarily closed. There’s this deli. And the deli has sandwiches. And they’re fine. But in the back, behind what looks like a refrigerator door, there’s a dark, password-protected cocktail bar with bookshelves and chandeliers and very good cocktails. They serve sandwiches in the bar, too, and they’re still just fine - nothing incredible. But this is a very cool place to grab a low-key drink, as long as you have the password. Which, if you find a way to contact us, we might be willing to share." - Aimee Rizzo

Came in for the Benny and June, delicious by the way. Ended up in the back bar in the exit nook. There was dj setting up as we arrived, the place went from cozy to vibrant. The acoustics are very smooth and rich. My brother and I really liked the wall shelving artfully full of books inviting you to pick one up. I will be coming back again soon enough.

Sandwiches here are just okay. If I had made this at home I would be satisfied but I expect more from a Delicatessen that charges a minimum of $10 per sandwich.

Awesome place, radical food, and strong cocktails. Make sure you visit the secret back bar and the pet collage in the restroom!

haven't tried the food - but the deli smelled amazing. The back hidden bar area was pretty awesome though! Drinks were good, atmosphere was very cool. We were in a hidden private room behind a bookshelf. The chairs were comfy, cool table and space for about 15 people

My new favorite place! The friendliest service and amazing food! Went in with a friend as we passed by and our whole day was changed around by the great customer service! (Shout out to Anthony and David!) I got the curried cauliflower which was fantastic and my friend got the meatball sub which he said he could “eat all day”. Already can’t wait to go back

My husband and I went here for drinks on our anniversary and we had a great time. Amazing drinks and super cool atmosphere. We didn't have a bad thing the entire time we were here. The prices were a bit high but not outrageous and the staff was a bit standoffish.

Great reviews brought me here. Had the Thanksgiving sandwich. Outstanding! Turkey, stuffing, cranberry on tasty, soft, delicious bread, sub style. The Tomato Soup was nice compliment. I'll be back to try that Cauliflower Salad.

So excited for this place to open! The local deli is a fast disappearing venue in the American experience, and this one has all the potential to be a star. The Capitol Hill area near the new light rail station is fast becoming a developer’s Mecca, with so much newness intermingled with The neighborhood’s original residents. So many new residents in this area - and all should support new local businesses like this one
