"Ross Parade is home to this culinary gem. Despite much ado about London’s pie and mash sphere, Byrnes Pie and Eel House flies largely under the radar on account of its suburban nature and lack of East End credentials. But it’s a fine place to stop for lunch: the pies are seasoned and the liquor is generous." - Josh Barrie

I like this place, although i think the pie could have been a bit more beefier tasting and the meal was only served lukewarm. But these places are becoming rarer and rarer, so we should support them as much as we can to preserve our traditional Pie 'n' mash.

It's been a long time since I visited a Pie & Mash shop, and one so local to me, for a rainy Saturday afternoon, I headed in here. It's a classic feel to the place with the marble tables and wooden benches, but that adds to sitting down to tuck into some good food. The pie tasted really nice with that gravy, and the parsley liquor with some lovely mashed potato, made this a meal I have neglected for too long, definitely have to come back here. And get a pint of Sarsaparilla to finish it off with, I'm definitely going to look for some of that!!

Nothing special. Mash was bland, liquor didn't taste of much. Everything was under seasoned and I've had better pies from a supermarket. Even the sarsaprilla didn't taste of much. Will keep searching for a better pie & eel place in London.

When my family first started eating here it was really good but the last few times any of us have been we have been bitterly disappointed. One time the pies were not cooked right through, another time the same again and my last visit last week i was again unimpressed. The pies needed a longer cooking and should have a nice colour on the top and the liquor was almost white not enough parsley and needed thickening more.Im not the type of person to complain whilst there are one or two customer in the shop so grateful to be able to get this message to you .This us not just my opinion but all of my family have all said the same ,we are a large extended family and have visited at different times. We do know what we are expecting when we have Pie MASH and Eels as we come from an area where we were brought up on this. Please just try and amend these problems as we all love your shop and you are a really lovely man and deserve a really good trade.Out of all my family it is only my Granddaughter my Greatgrandchildren and myself that still visit and i know my whole family would like to return to youe shop again but at the moment those who come from Hampshire and Sussex will not until this small problem is resolved. No hard feelings i hope and i wish you all the best.

Good honest food, served by friendly staff. Can be a bit quiet, but it's the food we want, not the noise.

Great traditional pie & mash shop.

Located bottom of Wallington high street. Spacious restaurant, plenty of seating. Staff friendly and helpful. Food quality is good with plenty of helpings. I had double pie with single mash and plenty of licka (don't know true spelling of this word). The food is already cooked so there is almost zero waiting time which is brilliant. You get locals attend this place as regulars. Would highly recommend to the pie and mash lover but anybody who loves traditional British grub. Will be attending again.....and again.....and again.

I'm not a regular P&M eater as I live in the Northeast of England. However I know when a pie, mash and especially liquor is right. Byrnes has it just right. Soggy bottom and crispy top on the pies. Enough lumps in the mash to prove the potatoes are proper. Just the right amount of white pepper in the liquor. Just over six quid gets you double pie with single mash and a generous splash of liquor. The decor is outstanding. Beautifully decorated tiles outside the door, traditional tiles and mirrors on the walls and floor. The best bit though has to be the smell. It is a pie and mash shop and not a café that sells pie and mash. No smell of cooking oil permeating everything. It was quiet when I visited with my niece and unfortunately the eels had sold out earlier in the day. Just gives me a good reason to go again.
