What Is Gopchang? A Primer on Korean Barbecue’s Offal Star | Eater LA

"An OG in Koreatown where gopchang is served on shallow-bottomed, round steel pans over wide tabletop grills; the shallow vessel lets fat render and crisp the exterior like a confit while also browning mushrooms, onions, and potatoes that accompany the meat. The plate’s longer cooking time encourages communal drinking of soju, and the menu also includes more conventional Korean barbecue cuts for diners less familiar with offal." - Euno Lee

Google
Our guest wanted gopchang and our LA friend said this was his favourite. I was skeptical after reading the reviews but trusted my friends word more. A lot of the negative reviews were about the service….lets just say this is your traditional Korean restaurant service and most customers are Korean. If you treat the wait staff nicely they will do the same. The food was very good and the gopchang sauce was a hit.

Google
Good quality and reasonable prices. This place has a very big kindness with smile. All Meats are fresh and delicious. First of all this is very right place to enjoy a wine with very good price. 100% recommended for korean BBQ.

When it comes to any sort of barbecue, sauce matters. Their garlicky sauce for the intestines is the perfect match! We ordered the intestine combo and it was good enough for two people. The combo includes one bottle of soju but we got two soda cans instead cuz we weren’t drinking. The waitress does all the cooking so you can just enjoy eating 😊

Google
I am giving this place 5 stars because the service was above and beyond! We were looking for a KBQQ all-you-can-eat place but all of them had an hour wait so we opted for Byul Gobchang since you could still cook the meat yourself! Although they are not an All-You-Can-Eat, you still get the simliar experience with the hot plate (Plus you can take home leftovers!) The staff was incredibly nice and brought out the food very quickly. The soup and salad were so good!! My favorite thing was the bulgogi beef, the taste and marinade was so flavorful. Although some of the meats were a bit chewy and not the best quality, overall everything still tasted sooo good. I really appreciate the staff so much because they came over a lot to check on us as well as switch out the hot plate when it got dirty. Overall very amazing experience and I would come back to support them again!

Google
Loved this place, we came on a busy night and got seated quickly. The soju was good, the beef was amazing, but the chicken was subpar (got a combo #1). Bathroom was clean and in the back. Wasn’t Smokey inside although it was loud. Would def go back.

Written on 12/12/17. I gotta say if you are thinking to taste korean authentic gobchang, Never ever visit this place!!! This place is not even franchise of Real Byul Gobchang in Korea. They just copied the name but taste like sxxt and price is rip-off. And the worst thing is the servers!! They are middle aged women and when my family came here we were 2 adults and four kids - 8,7,3,3 yr old. And one of the server whose name is Kang she pushed us to sit 2 different table and saying it is the rule to sit max 3 people per one table and each table we should order at leat 2 main menu. So we had to order four main menu which is more than $40 each and she didn’t even deliver fast. We waited amd waited and she brought the pork and beef but gobchang when we were full enough, she served gobchang but it doesn’t look like gobchang that I enjoied in Korea. Look at the pictures. Do you think this food is gobchang or fat anchovy? It was half burned taste like tire.. When we called for service, she didn’t come until we called several times. She served Kimchgook (kimchi Soup) and it wasn’t even hot and poured in the bowl 1/3. Other dishes were bad as well. We kept complaining but she wouldn’t correct her attitude and she even let us her name and leave the google review. I didn’t find any owner or manager. I was so mad and here you go!!! This is the review after the service and food like SXXT! I am not begger but it was my first time to be treated even I paid much money. Do I have to stand this situation? I repeat again. Please Never Ever visit this place. Never even think of visiting this place. Thank you.

Google
Omg. Hidden hidden gem of a spot. Been going next door for 10+ or more years and I never knew about Byul. Apparently all the Korean ajusshi swear by this place 🤣 Definitely grab a Korean friend (male- apparently service is better) and get ready to eat. Great food. They have this red vinegar to mix with soju.. wow wow wow it was amazing. The daechang was on fire as was the ribeye cap. If you’re in ktown and don’t know where to go… go here.

Google
Instead of going to Hae Jang Chon (also a fave, but the lines have gotten ludicrous with people) we decided to swing by here to scratch our itch. The ahjummas were pretty nice to us, and we're always attentive at refilling our side dishes. They even swung by to help us cook if they caught us flipping things by ourselves. The meat quality was good, and the sides were delicious. All in all, a solid meal and a good time!

Yelp
OMG! Where to begin! This was my first time ordering food for take out and wow was I surprised. Not only were the food packaged well, but they provided a generous amount of side dishes. The lunch Yuk gae jang was extremely flavorful and the quality of the meat was superb. The infamous gobchang also lived up to its name! I was afraid the portion and texture would be different but it was quite the opposite. They cooked the meat to perfection and it was just as crispy as when I dined in. To top it off, they provided a large container of their famous garlic dipping sauce! Good Korean fresh water eel is difficult to find in LA. There are a few places that sell them but it doesn't taste as good as Byul gob chang. The reason for it is the way they grill the eel. Korean fresh water eel needs to be grilled in a certain temperature to keep the moisture in and crispy on the outside without burning it. Everytime I dine here, the eel is cooked perfectly. And to no surprise, my togo eel was as tasty as always. They provided a big portion of all the side dishes necessary to accompany the eel (garlic, jalapenos, ginger, perilla leaves and the dipping sauce). This place is truly a hidden gem in k-town. The aunties there are always so polite and friendly. It also has a cool-old fashioned vibe which is hard to find nowadays. I highly recommend Byul gobchang!!

Yelp
Seriously one of my favorite hidden spots in KTown inside a very busy strip mall next to Nadarang!!! If you know you know.....Can you say RibEye CAP!!! Oh yeah!! And they even do eel and intestines if you like!!! Banchan, soups and stews are also an absolute must!!! I especially love the staff and owners!!! Absolutely welcoming and so friendly!!! FYI ask for ICED soju!!!!

Yelp
Made the mistake of ordering the Comet and Big Bang combos. I know the Gobchang is the specialty but I was with people who weren't feeling that choice sadly. So both of these combos were pork, chicken, and beef. Pork was not the business. Very dry, and the fat didn't render properly. Same with the chicken as the connective tissue was just too tough to get through by a certain point. Our server was hit or miss. Super nice and helpful but I just was in a picky mood. She gave me some pork belly that was half burnt and half untouched like pls I just want a little crisp here lol. Beef was the strongest and was nicely marinated. The Beef rib though was also very fatty with globules rippled within the meat. The soups were both exceptional and the banchan was tasty! But the meat should shine. Definitely willing to come back for the Gobchang.

Yelp
Great Korean BBQ that had a ton of food and is pretty good value for the amount you get. All the sides were delicious and the meat was tasty, especially the short rib and bulgogi. Pork and chicken were just fine. We had the comet combo and it was too much food for just the two of us. The servers will cook for you so don't worry about over cooking, they did an excellent job. Restaurant itself gets really hot but that's what you expect when a grill is right in front of you. Great food and great value.

Yelp
The vibes were typical mom and shop type store. Not too big yet not too small. Food was alright we got the large intestine which I thought was way too fatty with the gunk inside of it. Everything else was good meat wise but now I come to the service. It's cool they cook for you and all but my party tipped a good amount like 15% and the lady's did complain that we tipped too little. That did catch me off guard.
google avatar

Yuri Y.

Yelp
Came here for dinner, we got seated immediately but a wait line started right after we came in. It was a full house w/ maybe 3 servers so service wasn't the greatest but the food did not miss! Everything was so delicious~ Music was a little loud & after a couple drinks, we could barely hear each other during conversation. But the quality of the food made up for it
google avatar

Yelp
Ambiance: it's a traditional style Korean bbq place, right next to one of the most popular ayce kbbq restaurants Service: super friendly and attentively, they will cook the meat for you Food: combo has the best value and the portion is good for 2~3 people Banchan - **** very well prepared, egg rolls, glass noodles, seaweed, kimchi, fish cake, bean sprouts, fresh salad, and cold buckwheat jelly soup, recommend Beef Brisket - **** chewy meat, recommend Prime Ribeye Steak - **** juicy meat, recommend Beef Bulgogi - *** sweet taste Chicken Bulgogi - *** sweet taste Kimchi Stew - **** tofu, onions, rice cake slices, recommend Price: premium quality and reasonable prices, about $50 per person for a fulfilling meal

Yelp
Highlights: Ribeye cap, Byul combo This restaurant has been my go-to spot for the past decade, where I make sure to visit at least once a month. Not only is the quality of the meat exceptional, but they also serve the best gopchang and daechang. Here I always start my meal with the ribeye cap, which melt in your mouth. Following that with gopchang and daechang paired with soju makes for an unbeatable combination. To finish off, their yangbap and gochujang jjigae complete the perfect Korean soul food dining experience. The aunties who have been working there for the past ten years are incredibly warm and nice and make the place feel like home. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Byul Gobchang has been around in LA for quite a while, and I used to go there often -- but I don't think I'll be going back. While eating gopchang(intestines), I bit into sand. The older ladies working there didn't even apologize, just said, "That happens sometimes." I was really disappointed with both the hygiene and the customer service. No action was taken, and it left a bad impression.

Yelp
I got just 2 main dishes. And those're really tasty and gravy! Even sides are really good. Music/Services great. nothing more or less. I and my family felt comfortable there. Recommand? Yes! If you are curious about the special taste of Korean people. :)

Yelp
Best place for authentic Korean bbq!! Had the intestine and other cuts of beef and it was delicious. Fresh meat, not gamey and good. Service was amazing too the ladies were so sweet. They cook everything for you and let you know when it's okay to eat so you don't get confused at all!

Yelp
Amazing quality food , the sauces ! Chefs Kiss!! I live in Northern California and I always come here when I'm in LA . So worth the wait . Two thumbs up to the staff . Great team work
google avatar

Yelp
Food (4/5): Loved the octopus fried rice! Gopchang is what they're known for, and for us, this is 90% of the deliciousness at Ahgassi with 0% of the wait time. For many days, that's totally worth it. Service (5/5): Super attentive throughout the meal. They cook for you including grilling the gopchang separately and then keeping it warm on your table's grill.

Yelp
As most reviews mentioned, food is decently good, service is questionable. Came on an empty Sunday night. Forced to order a minimum of 5 meats for a party of 7 totaling ~$260 w tip. Personally don't mind w inflation going on, but wish we knew before ordering! Banchan 5/5 Kimchi, pickles, seaweed salad, fish cake, japchae Pork jowl 5/5 Pork belly 5/5 Daechang 5/5 Gopchang 4/5 probs an acquired taste Abomasum 4/5 Complimentary rice bowl.

Quila D.

Yelp
5 Stars I've been coming here since 2021, and it always tastes amazing! My go-to order is the fluffy matcha with 50% sugar, less ice, and added boba and cream cheese -- it's absolutely perfect every time. The quality and consistency keep me coming back. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I love byul gopchang!!! I have so many fun memories here. For some reason whenever I want gopchang, daechang, makchang I only think of this place. The steamed egg and soup were pretty good too. But seriously, if you want to try something new, check this place out and get the gopchang combo. It's worth trying at least once. I know not a lot of people are down to try intestine but this place may change your mind. They have other meat too for those who have zero interest in trying gopchang (booo).
google avatar

Sophie K.

Yelp
Byul Gobchang is my go to for Gobchang Jeongol (곱창 전골) intestine mix stew. The stew is a must for cold weather and just soul healing. Once you try it, you will want it over and over again. The stew is a thick and spicy broth similar to kimchi chigae. There is small intestines, tripe, veggies and udon side to add. Banchan sides include Kimchi, cucumber kimchi, yuchae (rapini, broccoli rabe) seaweed mixed with vinegar and sliced onions and egg (계란 말이) Their banchan is really good and refilled when asked. Service is always exceptional, afternoons are less busy to dine with no wait. The restaurant has a cozy feel and a nice atmosphere for evening gatherings. Beer and soju is available. The plaza gets crowded because of the AYCE in the mall but valet is available and just so many options for dessert, juice and coffee afterwards.

Yelp
Horrible and I mean horrible customer service. I called earlier today to ask a simple question, the moment they answered the phone they spoke in their native language which is totally fine. I understand that this is a Korean authentic restaurant and they may answer in their native language. But what wasn't okay was I answered with "Oh I'm sorry, I just had a quick question" and the woman on the other end said "Aishh" in a harsh tone and then hung up on me. I'm confused here. I just wanted to ask a simple question and even if you don't speak English that's fine but just direct me to someone who will. Or even just say sorry you can't answer me and then hang up, that's fine as well. Who answers with "Aish" in a rude tone and then hangs up??? Unbelievable.

Gloria C.

Yelp
Best gochang in SoCal hands down!!!! I tried almost every gopchang place in SoCal and this place had the best quality and taste. The other dishes are phenomenal too! Love the service and friendly waiters and waitresses. Definitely one of the few remaining legitimate Korean food
google avatar

Yelp
One of the best porkbelly and fresh water eel in k-town!!! I'm from san Francisco and I was craving these for these since pandemic and I had these with my wife. Both of us were satisfied. We are definitely coming back!!!!
google avatar

Yelp
When I was younger, I ate gobchang without knowing what it was. It was in a stew and I remember loving it. When I found out what it was, little me died inside. Decades later, my SIL wanted to check this place out. I'm like okay, I'll eat other stuff on the menu and will give gobchang another try, just one piece. First, what I like is that they cook it themselves and bring it out and place it on our grill. It was cut in little rounds and was very crispy. I actually loved it. It's pretty fatty so there's a limit to how much I can eat. We also loved the acorn jelly dish as well as their soups. We have gone back now a few times and have consistently had the same experience. Service was also pretty good, but they are definitely old school and not artificially friendly. It's hard for me to explain, but I like the service a lot. Warning about parking, due to the AYCE BBQ next door, this lot gets insanely full.
google avatar

Ngc L.

Yelp
I don't talk about your food, but the service. The waitress was acting very unusual with us. She didn't evenly talk to us at all and kept pushing us to eat with an annoyed face, then she evenly said a few Korean words to us, and I guess those words were not nice at all. We like the food, but did not have the comfort to enjoy. We tried to finish quickly in order to move to somewhere else with bad mood. The meal was $377, and we decided to give some tip to round up to $400, then the manager she followed us to ask us for a 18-20% tip that equals to about $70. It's unacceptable for the bad service they gave. The owner if you're a good owner, please re-check the camera to see how that employee was working on us. Thank you!
google avatar

Chris L.

Yelp
It's good here if you like intestines,if not go eat Jack in da crack you over weight lovers

Yelp
Still Good, during COVID times. Was hesitant to order this Togo. The side dishes were great and the quality also! Pricey but well worth it!
google avatar

Valerie L.

Yelp
Came here after they resumed indoor dining. What better way to celebrate than to get some Korean bbq!!!! Staff was super friendly and they had the social distancing seating in check. All silverware was plastic and wrapped and they gave each guest their own Bachan. Super happy about that, i hate sharing my kimchi. We settled for the first combo, good enough for two people. Came with brisket, beef bulgogi, marinated chicken and rib eye. All were 10/10 but the ribeye lacked some seasoning. We had to use this sauce they gave us to really make it edible. We're all about flavors here. Also, it was more fat than meat and I'm not a big fat eater ‍ The staff was sweet and attentive and cooked our food which usually i don't mind doing but ehhh they wanted to lol They served us cabbage soup i believe? And it was DELICIOUS!!!! It didn't have much in it cabbage and bean sprouts but that broth was so good! I asked for more lol The food was filling but i wish we had ordered more oh well. We'll come back again.

H B.

Yelp
Love this place! The quality of the meats was top-notch. The service was excellent, with friendly staff who checked on us regularly. I found the prices to be very reasonable. I'll definitely be back for another round of authentic Korean BBQ
google avatar

Wendy P.

Yelp
This is our first time at Byul Gopchang and we didnt regret one bit choosing this restaurant. The ahjummas here are so friendly. We were greeted upon entering and seated right away. The pork jowl and large intestine we order are cooked to perfection and its so tasty. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Jay V.

Yelp
They refused us service. We came here at a 6pm on Thursday night for dinner. The restaurant was full with the exception of one table. I had been here a handful of times before and love the food. We waited at the door for ten minutes while employees walked passed ignoring us.. they clearly saw we were there several times but never greeted us. When I finally directly asked a server for help... she said they were full. I asked if they have a wait, and how long, and she said sorry we don't have any wait. Basically saying they would not serve us. Not sure if they treat everyone that way, but judging off the fact that all of the patrons inside were Korean, there was an undertone of racism to the interaction and how they denied us service blatantly. I've been a customer here and have spent money eating here, and to be treated so poorly didn't feel good. Sadly, I don't think I'll come back..
google avatar

Francesca P.

Yelp
My Korean friend brought me here to try more "authentic" KBBQ. I'm used to all you can eat style so this was different since you order by portion. I tried the kimchi soup and corn cheese before we started grilling the meats. The first meat I tried was the small and large intestine which I was told you HAVE to try at least once, even if you don't like it since not many places serve it (I'll admit it wasn't my favorite, it's very chewy). The large intestine was definitely more tolerable. I really enjoyed the brisket and steak. The quality of the meat was so much better in comparison to other KBBQ spots I've tried. If you find yourself in K Town and you've never had KBBQ or only had all you can eat, give this place a try to see the difference. Not to mention the owners were this super sweet couple who stopped by our table to chat.
google avatar

Albert B.

Yelp
I don't come here often as I'm not a huge fan of intestines but when I do, pork small intestines cooked until crispy and dipped in their sauce is the way to go. As for meat, get the rib-eye cap. It's the most savory and tender part of a ribeye. You'll thank me later.
google avatar

Rebecca W.

Yelp
WOW. JUST WOW. My friend told me that this was her favorite gopchang place, and it's not hard to see why. I love it when the staff comes to cook the food for you. It just means that you don't have to nominate one person to be the mom of the group. We ordered 2 servings of gopchang. Because the lady helping us cook "burned" it a little, she compensated us by bringing us creamed corn and gopchang stew on the house. So kind so nice!!!! The gopchang here is meant to be eaten with this sweet/spicy garlic sauce they provide for you. I've never seen that kind of condiment before, but be prepared to have the worst breath (but the best meal!). A variety of banchans also accompany your dish. Byul has some of the best side dishes I've ever had! Compared to Ahgassi, I'd say that Byul is butterier, creamier. And it's pure gopchang. When you order gopchang at Ahgassi, it comes with dukkbokki and some other vegetables. The gopchang at Ahgassi is crispier. I guess it depends what your preference is on that, but I think I still lean towards Ahgassi! I think most people who come here come after 7pm, because there was no wait at all when we arrived at 6.
google avatar

Sujung S.

Yelp
Food was good but the service was so horrible. There were 6 of us. We ordered 3 combos total and 2 people shared each combo. Food was good. The servers weren't attentive with water, forgot dishes, but we were patient because they were busy. We finished eating and sat for about 45 min before we could flag someone down for our check. When we got to splitting the checks is where I really got frustrated. We asked for 3 separate checks for each dish. They took the total (3 dishes) and divided it between 6 people. I told them that it was incorrect, could they please just give us separate checks. The lady threw the checks back on the table and told me to go talk to the counter. Rude. But I went to the counter and I told them that it was incorrect. They said their pos doesn't allow them to divide checks such way that we are requesting. I've never heard of that. It's like we ordered 3 dishes and we want separate checks?? She told me to do the math myself after 1 person pays.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of gobchang (small intestine) and particularly the other companions (large intestine and abomasum) and my prior experience with some of the other establishments in Koreatown was not great. Byul does it well and have some other meats to offer as well. A bit on the pricier side for the combos so bring friends.
google avatar

Andie T.

Yelp
Amazing!! This is how all Korean bbq should be! Super friendly staff and the bbq is full service as in the servers here cook the food for you which means you get more time to sit and enjoy. Note this is NOT AYCE (all you can eat). And there is mandatory 10% minimum tip since they do full service. The server recommended us to try one of the combinations which is three meats plus some veggies for $75 (meant to be shared for two people). Our group was four people so we also ordered jap chae and kimchi fried rice which the server also distributed evenly into our bowls for us. The jap chae was very light and flavorful, and the kimchi fried rice has the perfect level of spiciness. Make sure to request to add cheese to your fried rice which adds creaminess and balances the amount of spiciness. Your meals also comes with banchans as is customary, and three sauces for your meats. One is sesame oil with salt and pepper, one is some sort of thick sweet garlic paste, and one is I think a type of special sauce which I think is vinegar based and has pickled jalapeños. We tried them all with different types of meats and loved all them all! Parking is difficult since it is in Korea town, but thankfully there usually isn't a line here, so parking away and walking isn't a big deal. Advice for the business owner: If 10% minimum tip is required, you need to have that stated on the menu or somewhere in the restaurant. A table nearby was having some issues with a server because of it. I believe by law you have to mention ahead of time if there is mandatory tip!

Yelp
Where is the gobchang? The place is called Byul BBQ. I came here with extremely excitement only to be super disappointed once I saw the menu. I didn't even sit down to eat. The place was EMPTY! No customers at all. Sus!
google avatar

Joey N.

Yelp
A good place to get your organs BBQ craving solved. If it's your first time trying intestine, go with the combo so you'll know which one you'd like the most. To me it will be the small intestine, not too greasy and chewy, even tho I like the chewy texture a lot, I still don't like the other options they have with the combo. Ordered with some soju or beer then your meal is complete.

Yelp
Service: Came here for dinner and it was great!! The employees greeted me right away and provided a table. They brought over all the side dishes & even cooked everything for us!!! they were so nice & friendly. Definitely my new go-to kbbq place in LA. Food: I ordered a new item that's off the menu which was a steak tri tip. It was sooo good and so much food!!! I had to get the intestine combo which was SO WORTH!! They cook it for you and it comes out delicious!! I also tried the beef tongue which was one of the best i've had yet. so worth the money!! The Tripe lunch box was AMAZING!! It was kimchi fried rice with tripe, and seaweed, and an egg over. I could literally eat it everyday. Location: It's located in a plaza with valet parking. Pretty easy to find and I absolutely recommend this place!!

Yelp
Main knock against some of the meats here is that they're just a TAD too fatty-- pork jowl was almost excellent but could have been trimmed a smidgen closer. Kinda adds up when you've eaten a whole plate. Ditto for the brisket, although that's a tougher call as the brisket was damned good. If you don't want to wait at the crazy lines for the AYCE place next door, honestly, spend the few extra bucks and come here if you're a normal adult appetite (1 order of meat per person). The time savings are well worth it, and the food more than holds up. If you're still a young kid who can pack it away, well, then maybe wait for AYCE next door, 'cause this place could get spendy quick. Disclaimer: intestine appears to be a huge specialty here. I regret that our group did not try it, so I cannot comment on it.
google avatar

Sunny L.

Yelp
Two people ordered one portion of pork belly and one portion of la galbi, but the price was too expensive and the meat had no taste. From the side dishes to the meat, it was the worst, and the service was also bad... I'll say it again, don't go here!!

Yelp
They have been taking customers for indoor dining. This has been going on for at least a month now. I used to love going to this restaurant before covid. I love their menu and the staff. I am very sad to leave this review. I understand that the owner made a tough decision to stay open to sustain the business. I just can not let this slide. More than 417,000 people have died to this virus. I am disappointed by the business owner and the customers who encourage this behavior.

Yelp
Jennifer the manager and Kang are #1! The customer service is amazing with the personal touch! The wait on a Saturday night wasn't too long. I called to ask about the wait time and Jennifer put us on the list! Super cool. I'm like ok, on my way! There's another restaurant next door wait time is 2 hours , I was like nooo way!! but this one is bomb! Glad we ate here! Jennifer and Kang made my kids homemade chopsticks training tool. We will definitely be back! It's not all you can eat but they cook the food for you so it's good in a way you don't over stuff your face and like a blimp after lmao!!! Definitely come here to get your BBQ grub here. Wine was good too!

Yelp
Came here last night cause I was craving some kbbq. We were lucky to find street parking since the parking lot seemed busy. The restaurant was spacious and the service was quick. We got the pork combo that comes with intestine, pork belly, pork jowl and a large beer for $75. The portion was perfect including all the bonchons. The waitress did a perfect job on grilling. I did wish the pork jowls were in bigger pieces though, but it went really well with the grilled kimchi. The meat quality was pretty good! The intestines were marinated, they started cooking it on another table while we were finishing up the other meats, they were definitely very efficient.

Yelp
This place is so amazing!!! We had Korean BBQ for the first time tonight!! We drove from Phoenix and it was totally worth the trip! Our waitress Jackie was so sweet! She explained everything to us so we knew what to order. Everything was so authentic and everyone else dining there was Korean so we knew we were in the right place! We will definitely drive back here to die again! So delicious!

Yelp
WORST SERVICE I'VE EVER RECEIVED! My friends and I were going to Hae Jang Chon Korean BBQ next door but the wait was over 2 hours so we decided to give this place a chance since the wait was only 10 mins. Instantly regretting it once we started ordering with the servers. It was our first time there and we were ordering $160 worth of combos for a table of 8, we had a filling lunch and wanted to see the portion sizes since it was our first time there. They demanded that we had to order at least $40 worth of food per person or else we had to leave. Of course after that interaction the service was extremely awkward and they would fill our plates with onions and salad without even asking. They would then proceed to rush us to eat by cooking our $320 worth of KBBQ somewhere else then bringing it our grill afterward forcing us to fill up our small plates and feel rushed to eat. As a former server at an AYCE KBBQ I understand that it's really hard work being a server but demanding people to leave because they didn't order enough food and then provide terrible service after they order more is unacceptable!

Yelp
Food is great, service is terrible. Server was very rude. We merely asked if we could change an item from the combo menu they had. I told her that from previous visits, the server allowed it. Today's server claimed that this was never allowed. That out of the 10 years she worked there, she never allowed such change and that she was our server, and always had been. First of all, how would she even recognize me? Secondly, she could've cordially explain it rather than talking over me and exclaiming that I was wrong. After the bill was paid, I left tip based on their service. While waiting for my car, server comes out of the restaurant demanding more tip. I explained my reasons and she walked away rudely without any further conversation. I was told by an anonymous neighboring restaurant that the same server harasses other customers for more tip; that my situation wasn't the first time he's seen this, and that the owner doesn't care. Been coming here for years. This experience changes everything and will not come back again. Not worth the trouble of loosing appetite for good food.

Yelp
Best Korean food I've ever had!!! Hands down. I was waiting for Hae Jang Chon next door but the wait was 1 hour and I was starving so I decided to check this place out. As I walked in the waitresses greeted me warmly. I ordered the combo bbq. This is the first time I love kbbq chicken. For most places, when they kbbq chicken it comes out burnt or dried. BUT NOT HERE!! The chicken was juicy and tender. The flavoring added for the chicken was so delicious! The beef and pork belly was also cooked very well. I'm not a fan of consuming meat but this place got me loving meat!! The waitress was never nice and attentive. She kept coming to check on my table asking if I needed anything else. She knew limited English but still tried to make us laugh by making small talk. If you're full and you still have left over, you can pack it up for take out. Definitely recommend trying this place!

Yelp
Food Quality: B Service: F It was really hard to enjoy eating here with the terrible service. We were greeted with them literally yelling at us to order a lot of food or go next door to Hae Jae Chong Korean BBQ, our original choice. Unfortunately we had to wait 2 hours for the other place. So we decided to give this place a shot and they disappointed us. The food was decent. It's standard Korean BBQ meat. However, they were cooking our food so fast to the point where they precooked our galbi and other meats. They didn't even cook the onions they placed on the grill through and decided to dump the onions on two people out of the eight people we had in our group. I would've gladly cooked the meat myself instead of having these guys around. TL;DR Bonchon gets a pass. If you want a good kbbq experience don't come here.

Yelp
Was an hour long wait, just for them to eventually give us a table that had been open the whole time,..and also offer us the waiting table to eat. we were sitting at the waiting table outside because it was so unbearably hot and we could no longer stand. I am just thinking if that was an option all along, why was that not presented sooner? I will give the benefit of the doubt, because I could tell they were busy and also just given covid so we'll go with that. But yes that part was not pleasant. Once we were seated though, staff was very attentive, we were in and out in no time. They also started cooking some of our meat on another grill while we worked on ours to speed up the time which was appreciated. parking was free given there's no valet right now. Sauces and side dishes were great. The meat was good, and we had quite a bit to go too. Was a bit on the pricey side for the quality and wasn't spectacular to me. I also want to add that staff wore masks from what I can tell and the food and sides came out on plastic and paper bowls and utensils. I was a bit sus on where we ended up sitting. We were like half way indoor / outdoor. I felt uneasy but I think that's just my own hang up. They didn't have AC on, just fans and they were facing the door so did make me feel a little better.
