Inside the Japanese Cafe, Speakeasy, and Sushi Bar That Shares a Roof in the East Village | Eater San Diego

"Hidden behind a secret door in the bakery's right wall, Bar Kamon is a speakeasy that aims to transport guests back to Japan in the 1920s with a Taisho-era design by co-owner Masaki Yamauchi — a look reflecting the period when traditionalism and modernism first converged and a style that also influenced the manga series Demon Slayer. I learned that Yamauchi, Ito, and bar manager Brett Grimsman researched some of Kyoto’s best bars to create a cocktail list that includes Negronis made with hojicha-infused gin and Old Fashioneds sweetened with sugar smoked on cypress wood, and that the bar will focus on Japanese-made alcohol curated by Ito, a certified sake sommelier." - Candice Woo

I think this is the most special bar I’ve ever been to. It had hundreds of liquor bottles lined up against the walls and a friendly bar tender. The atmosphere was truly special and drinks were great. I also liked the lamps here.

I don't know what to say other than I've had the best cocktails I've ever had here. Great owner, great selection and nice atmosphere, and not overly expensive. If you want a great drink, come here.

A cute little bar run by an owner for over 27 years, he said he has about 1600 bottles. Interior decor is amazing. My husband loved the bar’s whiskey collections and i loved his whiskey sour and milk punch (2 separate drinks) that we went back again. A hidden gem 💎

Best Whisky Bar in Kyoto. Over 1000 bottles from distilleries all around (mainly Japanese and Scotch), cocktails were also amazing I had a Sazerac.

Absolutely incredible selection of whiskeys! This is by far the most impressive collection I've seen in Kyoto, and I heartily echo all the other reviewers who rate this place as a must-visit for whiskey lovers. The bartender has great recommendations based on your preferences for region and taste profile. My wife, not a whiskey drinker at all, thoroughly enjoyed his whiskey sour. Lastly, he has a small bar menu and the beef jerky we had was delicious! I will certainly be back every time we are in Kyoto!

An amazing intimate whiskey bar in the Sancho Pontocho area. They have a huge collection of rare whiskeys from all over the world and a highly knowledgeable bartender. Check it out. Prices are expensive but you pay for what you get and no scams or trickery.

Loved this experience and the bar was extremely cozy. Great whisky options and fantastic cocktails all around the board. When I come back to Kyoto eventually, I’d love to come back and show others this bar. Didn’t try the food, but would love to.

Best cocktails I have ever had in my life. We came back multiple times on our trip to Kyoto because the drinks were amazing, the atmosphere was great and the bartender was very nice. Couldn’t recommend this more and will be coming back next time we are in Kyoto!
