The Best West African Restaurants in Houston | Eater Houston

"Caju Abuja, named for Nigeria’s capital, offers dishes like spicy smoked goat meat with chopped onions, fresh peppers, and a side of rice. Lighter options include abacha, a salad of dried, shaved cassava seasoned with African spices, and served with fried mackerel." - Lane Gillespie

The food is severely overpriced. It's better if you don't order to go and eat there becaus4 the portions are better. The to go orders portions are so tiny. Service leaves a lot to be desired. There are many menu items that are unavailable consistently. It's disappointing.

Google
This is a $20 plate. Besides being ridiculously overpriced, the food didn’t even make up for it. The only flavor you could taste from the Jollof rice was pepper. I’m am a huge fan of Suya and I always try suya from different restaurants. This is by far the worst suya I’ve had. The meat was so dry, poorly seasoned and tasted like it was just sitting there for a while. I don’t recommend this location for suya at all.

I had never eaten Nigerian cuisine before. So my Nigerian friend brought me here. He stated it was the best place in HTX for jollof rice. Well I did not have anything to compare it to but I definitely enjoyed the rice here along with the fried fish. The rice had a nice smoky taste to it but not burnt or over powering. I can say I liked it and would have it again. I cannot remember the name of the fish. But it was a white fish fried crispy. It was cooked well and served with some type of tomato sauce. It was just ok. The customer service was very friendly and the restaurant was very clean. A nice eatery. I wouldn't mind visiting again and trying some other dishes. I will make it a point to re-visit.

Google
An incredible dinning experience. This was my first visit and first time having real authentic African cuisine and the staff went above and beyond to welcome me, explain the menu, understand my taste preferences and ensure I had an enjoyable meal. I highly recommend the Egusi, Jolloff Rice, Designer Rice and Stew and Puff Puff. I thoroughly enjoyed the oxtails too. I even got to meet the owner and she was such a beautiful spirit; very passionate about creating good experiences and serving delicious dishes. I can't wait to return to Cafe Abuja and look forward to visiting the other restaurants under her ownership.

We arrived at around 6:50 pm, and I guess the servers weren't expecting customers that late or something, but customer service was horrible. The tilapia pepper soup was great. We also ordered Cameron grilled tilapia, but we received fried tilapia that was not properly seasoned. I loved the stew that came with the Camerron fish, but the waitress should have asked how spicy we wanted it because that stew was the definition of "Pepper." I will go back for the restaurant atmosphere itself but probably on a weekend or better order takeout.

This evening we hosted a dinner party with family and friends of 15 people. We called ahead for us to have a table reserved and it was ready upon arrival. Once our table order was placed everyone received their food at the same time and it was served HOT. The waiter and waitress were very nice and accommodating with all our requests. Will definitely come back!

Was there with my brother on 8/2/25 order was quick and nice, but it was a little pricey, expected for Naija food tho’ enjoyed the meal ✨

Me and my husband first experience trying this restaurant. He got the oxtails and wasn’t satisfied with them. I tried the fufu, agusi soup, etc. We had great things about this place. The customer service was great! However he spent $69 total for everything and just wasn’t happy with the food. But somethings just doesn’t workout for some. I was very disappointed cause I was excited about trying the fufu and the soup. But just didn’t not like it at all. I thought sure I were going To love it. Another thing we spent $20.99 for the oxtail dinner that my husband had gotten. Sad to say, but it was nowhere near worth the price at all. I just have to be very honest. Well Still wish this establishment the best! Just didn’t work for us. Thanks 😊

Yelp
My father is Nigerian and my mother is from Louisiana. So I get the best of both worlds with the culture and food in my opinion. I absolutely love Nigerian food. My boyfriend has never eaten it, and I wanted him to try some good Nigerian food. After getting in touch with my sister and checking yelp reviews, we decided on this place. Upon entry, we were greeted by two nice young ladies behind the counter. The restaurant is cute, cozy, and clean. The clean was a plus. Clean in the parking lot and most definitely inside. I enjoyed my food. My boyfriend enjoyed his as well, but the meat was a little tough for his liking. Other than that, we enjoyed everything, and there was so much food. He said he will be back to try the other dishes, so it looks like I have swayed that Louisiana man into eating Nigerian food. We have added this place to our bookmark.

Yelp
I have finally tried fufu... and it's a delightful experience! I got the assorted meats (tripe, cow hoof, beef) with Egusi Soup and a side of fufu. The meat with sauce was really delightfully salty and complemented the neutral fufu. Much of the meat is collagen so I'm not sure if I would get it again though. The egusi was right in the middle in terms of spice and flavor and also very beginner friendly! This thing can feed like 3 people because fufu is so filling. For the appetizer we also tried a beef pie! Pretty good, nothing super outstanding but I liked it :) Ola our server was happy to tell us all our options and even gave us free Nigerian bread with Nigerian butter on the house! I'm not sure what was different about it but it smelled very sweet and had the similar texture to milk bread. Also being two Asian females apparently attracted some attention because gentlemen from a different table tried to pay for our drinks and they were very curious where we were from. This has no bearing on the establishment I just wanted to mention it cuz it was so startling. No worries though because we gracefully (?) fended off their advancements. Definitely felt welcomed here though haha.

Yelp
The food was good. Alot of things were not available but what they did have was good. My only draw back was that I got a bottle of water foe $5. Just a regular water bottle for $5 which is a 40pack somewhere lol. But I won't knock the hustle I guess.

Yelp
I used to live in houston years back though I've now moved to Colorado, but each time I come here on a business trip I look forward to experiencing the real taste of Nigerian flavor and Cafe Abuja gives me just that. One thing I like about this place is that the customer service, the food and the cleanliness is top notch. The place is also very cozy and has a nice ambiance to it. Need i speak of the owner. Oh, he is simply the best. He is so welcoming, customer friendly & makes sure you enjoy your money's worth. The restaurant has a great variety of Nigerian dishes. Their food is so tasty and the meat is cooked just right that I usually make more order of their assorted meats & oxtails. If you are a nigerian and want to eat real Nigerian food like it is cooked back home, this is the place for you. (Ọ na-akwọ aka esi nri biko, nri abụrụnụ sọ ụtọ). You Igbos understand what I mean by this. I can't think of any Nigerian restaurant that is better than here & trust me I've been to many, but none comes close to the excellent standard of Cafe Abuja.

Yelp
My family and I were awfully disappointed with how this establishment has went down the drain food was poorly cooked, either had too much tumeric and was sprinkled with more tumeric when served. The total price was $80 which is expensive when you could wrestle with one bite of the meat, and choke through each bite of fried rice and dried meat that almost had the same texture as burnt leather. Sad, but the customer service wasn't up to par either. It took me a while to write this review because it was heartbreaking that this is a family -business.

Yelp
Cafe Abuja was amazing! I went about a week ago after going to a Nigerian church and was in the mood for some good Nigerian food. I saw that they had a lot of good reviews on Google so I figured I'd try them out. And I am so happy I did. I ordered some egusi stew with mixed meats (which does not include pork - Thank God). And I had it with pounded yam. It cost about $19 I think, which when ordering I thought was a bit much, but I was still anxious to try them out. When they brought the food, I then saw why the price was what it was. They brought 3 containers (1 for the egusi, 1 for the meats and 1 for the pounded yam). It was A LOT of food! So $19 actually wasn't bad. And what's more is it ended up being enough food for about 3 meals!!! Anyway, the taste was phenomenal!!! It was sooooo good that I've been bragging about this place ever since! The restaurant itself is very beautifully and tastefully laid out. The service was great! Once you order, you are able to get a text message when your food is ready. Which I really liked because I wanted to check out the other stores next to it while waiting. They are also playing good Afrobeats music inside, so you are nice and relaxed while enjoying your food, or the wait for your food to go. This is my new staple spot for naija food!!! Chefs kiss

Yelp
I visited this restaurant and was given OLD STALE HARD beef. When I called, after not being able to eat it, the person on the phone told me I would receive a new order on my next visit. A week later I returned for a new order and was charged $44 dollars for what would likely be the same old stale beef! The supervisor proceeded to argue that they do not give out old food, then proceeded to contradict that lie with the truth of WHEN THEY DO THIS AND GET COMPLAINTS they just give more beef as if DOUBLE STALE MEAT is desirable. For 2 pieces of meat they give with a 19 dollar plate of instant rice, I will NOT be returning to this establishment. Rude, unprofessional and poor quality food now! Definitely not how it was when they opened years ago! I will take my business next door to Amala.

Yelp
Amazing every single time. When in Houston go here! Get the: Fish patty Beef patty Ogbono One day I will try everything but I just hate that it is so far from everything else I do when visiting Houston.

Yelp
We are an Indian family and had Egusi with pounded yam at cafe Abuja a few weeks ago and it was the first time we tried Nigerian food. We LOVED the place, the people (customer service) and of course, the food. Made and served with so much love. The ambience of the place is homely yet very modern. Now, whenever we make chicken or beef curry at home, we make sure to take carry out of pounded yam. We have incorporated pounded yam into our Indian cuisine that we typically eat at home and Man it's delicious. Thank you cafe Abuja for all your delicious food served with so much love. We will be back soon to try other dishes.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my experience of getting delicious Nigerian food to go at Abuja Cafe! I came here on the good word of a friend and was not disappointed at all! I'd like to mention that it is bright and so clean on the inside! Very inviting! The young lady and the gentleman 1/25/22 were very pleasant and patient! I ordered my favorite jollof rice with plantains. It came with two pieces of meat so I got dry fried chicken, which means without red stew. I don't care for stew on my meat. It comes with a container of smoky and spicy greens- the most delicious that I've had in Houston. I also ordered a side order of plantains which came with a whole lot and was too much for me but that's definitely not a complaint! I share! I will say that the jollof was delicious! It just needed to be a little hotter in spice and I'm used to Nigerian fried chicken being much drier, and well, a little more tough. I know it doesn't make sense to the usual fried chicken connoisseur but I'm used to a delicious fight with my Nigerian fried chicken. Oh well, it was very tasty though! They have meat pies and scotch eggs. Neither of which I like but they are well liked among others and I would encourage other diners to enjoy. They have water, juices, soft drinks, and beer galore. I was impressed with their assortment of beverages. I shall return to this lovely restaurant!

Yelp
Very disappointed, bought Isiewu through Uber eat. The plate was very tiny and not worth the money spent, ended up not eating wasn't sure what was inside the plate it didn't look like Isiewu, so I threw it away because it was messy

Yelp
Fire!!!!! Omg this place DOES NOT MISS. Start off with the suya and Jollof and that is where you will stop because they give you so much and since it's all delicious you end up eating every bite and boom , your full. My hubby and I got the Nkwobi and chicken pie and rice/ stew. Omgggggggg too good.

Yelp
Great customer service, this restaurant is one of the first African RR that I went to and didn't receive major attitude while ordering my food & for that reason alone it became my go to spot. I love their stew it's not overly spicy but has a nice balance. Now I WILL say that some days their food is better than the others and I realized almost everytime I don't like my food there was a woman with a bad attitude at the front (I don't think it's the owner cus Bosses move a certain way) but energy is truly infectious. I never ever used to get the bad reviews on yelp but the other day I picked up my food and everything in my order was just off an older woman was at the front just evil eyeing me, I almost wanted to leave my food but I had already paid. when I first walked in she barely even greeted me but was quick to ask for a tip while I paid for my food. Here's the Tip. To the lady with the excessive skin tags, please just stay in the back and Heal or something cus my Stew on this day was BITTER lmfao I almost couldn't believe my eyes and taste buds , I even was recording a Vlog but I was too dissatisfied . So I decided let me leave a review cus when you're on the rise to success the ppl around you will tear your business down. Please keep the happy sweet younger staff in the front, I came to eat food. not attitude. The day I came & had the weird experience was 5/3 (Tuesday) and I had just came there and had an amazing order and delicious food FRIDAY 4/29 so when I went back days later and it was totally different I was like oh nah let me do a review cus I already know the real reason. It's the Vibe, Energy cannot be destroyed it can only be transferred. Keep the happy staff at the front please.

Yelp
Okra with chicken. Really nothing to write home about. If you zoom in, the eba was not pounded to smooth. That or we got the bottom of the pot. I was really turned off by it. On a good note, the chicken was seasoned well. Egusi with assorted and pounded yam. Yam was better pounded. Shaki was too tough to eat. I was not pleased and may never order here again. The order was also delivered more than an hour after the promised time.

Teneka R.

Yelp
The customer service here is excellent! The staff at the restaurant have always been kind and helpful every time I go there. The atmosphere is very clean and welcoming. The food is usually good, however, on my last visit the food was not good at all. The soup with assorted meat I ordered lacked flavor and the swallow was cold. I have to say that it was very disappointing especially since the price is a little expensive for what I consider a very small portion size. I ended up throwing the food away because it was just that bad. Maybe it was an off day or something.
google avatar

Chelsea L.

Yelp
The food was pretty good but the portions are terribly small. We ordered a goat soup and it was very little soup and meat. Smh the jollof, egusi, and beef stew was good. The stew should've had more stew to it though.

Missie H.

Yelp
Food was amazing but staff was very rude and snobby. I walked in and they were sitting down and just stared at me. When I told the waitress that I had a pickup order she got up and rolled her eyes and checked me out.
google avatar

Yelp
This is the best Nigerian food I have ever tasted in Houston . I really liked the egusi and the pounded yam is really soft and very nice. I really like the jollof rice, not too spicy. The customer service was good too. The food came out on time. The place is super clean. Toilet is spotless. Smells really good too.
google avatar

Karla L.

Yelp
I must've came on a bad day! The agusi was horrible and not what I'm used to at all. It was burned however the oxtail and stew soup was good and very spicy but the agusi was a definite no.
google avatar

Diamond C.

Yelp
This was my first time trying Nigerian food and it was a great experience. They have a nice size menu and great staff. The restaurant is clean and they are doing a good job at social distancing. I had the okra, goat, and pounded yam. Because it was my first time trying Nigerian food I can't really judge it or compare it but I can say I wish it had more flavor to it. It seemed to have lacked in spices. I will try Nigerian food again but maybe something more spicy or a soup.
google avatar

Connie H.

Yelp
It was my first time trying fufu and egusi soup And okra stew everything was so good ,will be back very soon
google avatar

Christina A.

Yelp
What I love so much about Cafe Abuja is the service! Let's be honest most Nigerian restaurants have horrible service with side eyes and low patience , but not cafe Abuja! The ladies who work her have always been nice and courteous. I also love the ambiance. I like to eat in a nice area and cafe Abuja has that compared to other Nigerian restaurants they took their time to create a space for Africans and others to come enjoy Nigerian food. Obviously the food is good lol. The jollof is a hit or miss tho it's never bad but some days state better then others
google avatar

Asia D.

Yelp
I came to try their egusi. It was very flavorful but not as spicy as I would've liked it to be. The chicken was good as well. I may come back. To try some other dishes
google avatar

Yelp
Jojo is showing me some new looks. He's pretty stylish himself. So, he also decided what I should try. I hope that he knows his food. Let me tell you, Jojo knows good food! But, he likes his food too spicy for me. J-man had me try the chicken gizzards and plantains. I wanted more vegetables, and so I ordered the spinach dish. Both dishes were very appetizing, healthy and delicious. I already love chicken gizzards!, but to have them as the center of this dish made it extra special. The plantains are starchy, like potatoes, which made for a great supplement. And, I'm sure that they are more nutritious even. Again, I would tone down the spiciness for non-Nigerian people like me who aren't as adept at eating this food. The spinach side dish was absolutely lovely. It had all the natural flavor plus unshelled shrimp. I wouldn't change a thing here. It melded well with the rest of the meal. I had plenty of leftovers for four more meals. And, to tame down the spiciness, I added Quinoa (like rice) to the meal. It went very well though I'm sure that is took away from having authentic Nigerian food. For the first time trying Nigerian food, I'm very impressed. And the restaurant was very inviting too. Most of the people were very well dressed and friendly. Like the Terminator says, 'I'll be bach'.

Yelp
As should've written a review sooner as many times I've been here. The food is SOO GOOD! I usually get the chicken with rice plate. That jollof so freaking good! I like to mix my sauce from the chicken with rice (mmm, please excuse my inner fat kid). I've also had their swallow, indomie noodles, meat pies, suya, pepper soup...etc. All great options. If you are looking for good Naija food, you can't go wrong.

Janet E.

Yelp
So very glad I went with Cafe Abuja instead of another restaurant. While I told myself I wouldn't order from this establishment anymore a few years back due to cold food, receiving the wrong order and the overall experience on my to-go order, I am happy to say, the food ordered today was very good, well packaged and was nicely presented. I ordered the goat pepper soup & nkwobi and both were very tasty! I'll definitely be ordering again!
google avatar

Asabe H.

Yelp
Very tasty and delicious meals . Nice size on meals but can use a increase in size . Customer service is great Really small on the inside.

Haleemah I.

Yelp
when I go to Café in Abuja, I usually order stew beans, and this time when I ordered them they were very dry with no sauce with no stew just dried out and that is very unacceptable
google avatar

Yelp
This is long overdue, but I wanted to add Cafe Abuja to my list of local greats. It's definitely a drive for me, so I don't get to go often, but it's worth it. My friend is a foodie, and discovered this place on his side of town. We're from the same hometown, and he knows about my heritage, so he asked me if I'd been; since I hadn't, we made a lunch date and met up one afternoon. The interior is clean and a bit cozy, but they have the tables arranged well, so it doesn't feel too crowded, which is good. The staff are attentive and friendly (not gonna lie, service can be hit or miss at similar restaurants). We even met the owners, who were there greeting everyone. Nice touch. They have a solid selection of drinks, and I even got my malt fix. I was a little bummed that they didn't have chin chin or puff puff available then, but I also understand why. (If there's not enough demand, it's not worth the labor). I had the egusi with pounded yam, some plantain (dodo), and moin moin, and all were delicious. My friend also had moin moin, and I think he had jollof rice as well. We had zero complaints or problems here. If you're curious about trying Nigerian food, this is a great place to do it.

Ronesha Q.

Yelp
It's so delicious, my food was warm and so much flavor. The stew isn't spicy how i like it but it's not lacking flavor, the okra is to die for so is the coconut rice. The greens are delicious I would like if they had more drink options but other than that everything is good
google avatar

Ojomah E.

Yelp
I went there today after my friend told me that the food was good. I bought: The jollof meal, meat pie, suya and soda...don't judge me. 1. The restaurant was clean, well lit and smelled good 2. Customer service was phenomenal. Everyone smiled and was welcoming. (Pretty rare for a Nigerian restaurant in my opinion) 3. Food was appropriately priced 4. I didn't have to wait long for my food 5. Large portion sizes 6. The food taste good. If you like pepper then you are in for a treat. Two things: 1. The guy who took my order was nice but he accidentally gave me a Coke instead of a Fanta. I didn't realize this until I got home. Simple mistake. 2. I wish they sold suya by the stick instead of the platter. Overall my experience was good and I plan on returning

Ellena A.

Yelp
Love this restaurant! The staff is nice and they will help you pick your entree if you are unfamiliar with Nigerian food. The food is great!

Yelp
The service was fast and personable. The place and bathrooms were clean. My food was flavorful and fresh.

Katt G.

Yelp
Loved this place! I was able to parallel park right in front of the building. The staff were so helpful and inviting. I felt like I was surrounded by family and friends immediately. I tried two entrees so that it would last few days. I ordered the beef stew which comes with plantains, rice and greens. I love the spicey broth this is made in. You can get this stew with your choice of meat. I think it's tomato base. Their jollof rice was best I ever had. It's enough rice to last me all year though because I only eat a little. I'll just freeze the rest. I also tried the Nkwobi dish which came with a large amount of meat. I learned the Nkwobi dish is a Nigerian delicacy and usually only offered at exclusive restaurants. Unfortunately, I learned that I don't like the texture of Nkwobi or cow foot. The closest thing I can think the texture reminded me of is chicharon or maybe ham hocks a little. Just not for me. I enjoyed the experience and the rest of my food so will definitely be back to try something new. I keep an open mind so glad I know now that I don't like anybody's cow feel. This is a nice spot to dine with friends, a date or family. They also serve a nice selection of wines including south African wines.
google avatar

Sonia P.

Yelp
Love this place. I had goat and jollof with half fried rice. The serving sizes are large. The restaurant is really clean and well taken care off. Mr. Ayo, the owner, was there and he greeted his regular customers, noticed us and stopped and said hi to us. Owner is super friendly and accommodating and invited us to his other restaurant Taste of Nigeria . The food was delicious
google avatar

Salewa O.

Yelp
Loved this place. I came to just pick up some plantain to go and they were very friendly. The atmosphere reminds you of like a more modern version of the African spots that I used to see in movies as a child. Some of the plantain was really oily, but overall it had good crisp corners. I'll be back to try an actual dish, very soon.

Janelle F.

Yelp
I found this place last year some time and the first time I went the food was amazing. When you catch them on a good day you won't be disappointed but when I say WHEN I absolutely mean it. Like I said the first time was amazing but it's been down hill ever since. Between them running out of food or the food is not prepared and ready to be ordered or you have to wait an hour or so for them to cook more food; once I went and the oxtail was so over cooked I couldn't even get a bite of it. I had to throw the whole two oxtails they give you away. I loved this place but the experience is so inconsistent it's pretty much not worth the money nor the drive.
google avatar

Naomi O.

Yelp
Hands down- this is the BEST Nigerian restaurant in Texas! Chai!!! When I tell you my taste buds were just firing the whole time! Okay, so first let me commend this place. The atmosphere was beautiful. For African restaurants, I've noticed that if the food is good, the restaurant doesn't always look up to par and I know.. staple food is not cheap but when I walked into Cafe Abuja, I got vibes. Good, good vibes. It was pretty and impressive enough to bring friends, go on a date, meet the moms type of night (maybe, LOL). The food was nice and hot and flavored to the gods. Seasonings and spices were nothing short of perfect and the food was fresh. The owner actually gave us free complimentary ice cream for it being our first time and the staff members treated us with respect and did not beg for tips. 5/5!
google avatar

MissDiamond H.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite Nigerian food spots In Houston but it's getting a bit expensive. I usually order jollof rice with goat meat and the meat is tender and very consistent. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is always pleasant. If they can just control the cost and it rising every few weeks I'd come more.

Funmi A.

Yelp
I had Ayamase (Designer Stew) and it tasted great. I'm glad I came across this place. The food was above my expectations and the customer service was great! There was not a long wait time which is another plus for me. I'll definitely be back.

Anruchi I.

Yelp
DISAPPOINMENT. Every time I come here it's always something going wrong with my order. and at this point I will not be coming back or referring this restaurant to family or friends. See below for my most recent negative experience on February 18 1.) I called in my order a little after 11 AM. Café Abuja is the closest Nigerian restaurant to me so I typically end up ordering their tilapia pepper soup. After placing the order I got to the restaurant about 30 minutes later and was expecting my order to either be ready or almost ready since this is not the first time I have ordered the tilapia pepper soup from them. 2.). I pay for my food and have a seat to wait. I waited and waited and waited and this time it's nearing almost an hour since the time I placed in my order. I question of the ladies at the counter and stated that it's taking an hour for my pepper soup to come out. She didn't even respond 3.) I sat down to wait again and one of the other ladies at the counter comes around with my food and drops the bag on the table. Because I've had multiple negative experience with Cafe Abuja, I never leave there without first opening the bag and examining the contents of my food. To my dismay and astonishment, the weight of my pepper soup was very light and as I peer into the container I noticed only little bits of fish in the pepper soup, and at this point I'm very confused. 3.) I marched back over to the counter and said is this the tilapia pepper soup that I ordered? I was told yes and that they don't have whole tilapia today. At this point I am very angry. I question why they wouldn't tell me that when I ordered it, why it would take over an hour for this pepper soup to come out (especially if it's not even whole tilapia), and 3. why on earth they would charge the same price for this pepper soup and it is not even a whole FISH. I proceed to tell them that I need a refund, which they give me, and I quickly left. I have tried to give this restaurant multiple chances and they continue to disappoint and this time is the last straw. I will no longer be ordering food from Cafe Abuja and the next time and LAST TIME they will see me there is to use my free appetizer coupon that I have accumulated. It's very sad because I've seen the owner and he seems like a very nice person but the service here and the food quality especially in this scenario is just ridiculous. The silver lining is that I discovered Chez Michelle, and from now on will be going there to order my tilapia pepper soup. They only charge $12 and they give you plantain with the order compared to Café Abuja where you pay more and it doesn't even come with a side.

Yelp
The owner contacted me so I will update my rating to 5 stars once again. The food is great!

Yelp
AVOID EATING HERE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE!! I placed three orders with Cafe Abuja about a week ago. Before leaving and paying, I asked if the food was accurate because they have a history of mixing orders up. Biola or Bisola assured me it was accurate without displaying the orders to me before placing it in the bag, as is customary with customers to avoid any mishaps. As soon as I got home, I noticed they had made a mistake with one of my orders, so I called to inform them. I spoke with the lady who had placed my orders in the bags. She assured me that the next time I came in, they would give me a complimentary ogbono soup that had been mixed up. I said OK and even asked her, "Are you sure this is OK?" She said no problem because it was a mistake on their end. I said OK, and I also asked her if she could take care of it even if I didn't see her the day I decide to pick it up, She said it would not be a problem. I came into the store yesterday to pick up the food that I ordered as well as the complimentary soup that I was told to come in and get whenever I wanted. I met with the person in charge( pregnant lady) about the food and she said that there is nothing she can do, the only thing that she can offer me is snacks, I said no that was not what I was told, I was told that I could come in to pick up the complementary food that was missed on their part anytime and it would not be an issue. Then she changes the story to me picking up the soup while the girl who screwed my order is on the clock. I requested to speak with the business's manager or owner, but they told me they were unavailable, that there was nothing else they could do, and that this is what they told to do and say. The lady in charge is a complete jerk. She has no customer service skills and needs to be retrained on how to treat and communicate with customers. If she continues to speak to people in this manner, the business will suffer. Even though I was a regular customer, I vowed not to return after my experience. They were the only Nigerian restaurant I would order food from when I didn't feel like cooking or eating home food. This restaurant is basically like any other Nigerian establishment, with poor customer service and a lack of professionalism. At the end of the day, it's a matter of principle: if you say you're going to do something, do it; don't lie to a customer and then do something contradictory. I was making a fool of myself by yelling about some soup.

Yelp
I've come to this restaurant a few times and the food is always on point. I will say I live about an hour away and I ordered my food via the yelp app and it said it was going to be a 70-80min wait. That was fine because it was going to take me that long to get there, but when I got there the meat pies I ordered weren't ready so I was offered something else. I waited 20min for the meat pies, and I was offered a free fish pie. :( In all the food is cooked to perfection!

Yelp
Cafe Abuja blew me out of the water in every sense of the word. It was one of the best meals I have had in ages. The food and atmosphere was as authentic as one can get here in the states. It was my first time trying Nigerian food. I was definitely nervous about it at first, but after that first bite, all those worries disappeared. The ofada rice plate is amazing. The meat pies are perfect. They had Nigerian imported drinks. They played Fela Kuti the whole time. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. It was an 11 / 10 experience. I will definitely be returning!

Yelp
Second time going to this restaurant and they haven't disappointed me yet. My favorite thing to get here is the Jollof rice plate (comes with spinach and a generous amount of plantain) and the Stewed Fish (Tilapia). I love that there jollof rice is spicy and the stewed very is filled with lots of flavor and it's a very huge piece of fish that they give you (I never finish it in one sitting lol). Also, the ambience here is very nice as well and the staff is friendly too.

Yelp
Delicious food and great ambience! I had my fav Jollof rice and Designer stew with beef. My only complaint, they DO NOT give you enough stew! I was expecting a generous serving of the stew itself because it's so delicious and it's just A stew and not the meat. I mix this with the Jollof rice and they are crazy good together. All in all, the menu is severely overpriced. It's upscale African seafood. You can definitely find great African food more reasonably priced. Try Amayla (I'm sure I'm misspelling it) Zone, right across the parking lot on Westheimer!

Yelp
Food and service was great! First let me mention that if you are impatient and love your food to come out quick, this is not the establishment for you. Try to come with friends, order some drinks and enjoy the ambiance/company. Food seems to arrive at different times as well. None the less, the food was good! Be prepared for the large portions. You will most definitely leave full. I think the price is decent for what they give you. I'd definitely come back again. Most recommended when craving Naija cuisine.

Yelp
This is the 50 Shades of Grey or restaurants! It hurts so much but tastes so good! The food is extremely spices! Even if you think that your taste buds have been burnt off by the Mexican food of Texas, partner you haven't tasted anything yet!

Yelp
I live 10 minutes from this restaurant. I have been warned about it but after living in the area for almost 2 years, I decided to try it out. Lady who took my order was very impatient and pushy. I went to pick up my food around 9pm. Door was locked even though the sign says they open till 10pm. I kept knocking. Someone finally opened. I explained I had an order placed. She verified and let me in to pay and pick up. I asked about the early closure. She said they need to go home early. To add insult to injury, there were only 3 pieces of meat!!! Lots of oil and too much rice. All for $21!!!! Such a ripoff. I should have listened to people who warned me not to go there. Waste of my time and money.
