"Café Alma, the casual, quick-service counterpart to Restaurant Alma next door, serves a few cult-favorite breakfast sandwiches. All begin with a feather-light scrambled egg soufflé sandwiched between two buttermilk biscuits — from there, add pimento cheese with sweet pepper and onions; a few slices of Peterson Farms bacon; or caramelized onion jam with maple-rosemary syrup." - Justine Jones, Joy Summers

This is my favorite neighborhood spot in Minneapolis. Here’s why: no tipping required, coffee and pastries and breakfast sandwiches are always fantastic, they have a La Marzocco and know how to steam their milk, you can just walk in and sit at any open table where you scan the QR code and order directly. The vibe inside is nice, not too loud, staff are friendly, food comes efficiently. Honestly the more I think about it the more amazing this place is to me.

Great daytime cafe. Got a black currant lemon scone, a breakfast sandwich and an iced latte which were all great! Also liked the nice, clean aesthetic, though lighting was a bit darker than I had expected in the seating area.

Terrible vibes all around. My partner and I moved to the neighborhood a little over half a year ago and were excited to see Alma was so close to us. We have been nothing but let down since visiting. Not only are the prices for the quality of product you are receiving absolutely ridiculous but the service is downright terrible. If I wanted to feel like I was in lunch room being glared at by the mean girls while I take my tray to cry in the bathroom I would go back to high school. In the many chances we have given, the baristas have been consistently rude and standoffish, and always give the vibe that you are ruining their day just by walking in the door. The service is also ridiculously slow, no matter what time of day we visit and how busy it appears. I want to note that my partner and I both work in the industry, and I am more than willing to cut some slack and chalk it up to a bad day, but I don’t think I have ever walked in the doors of this place and felt welcome. We had a friend stay in town and decided to stop in to grab a quick morning coffee, when he made the simple request of adding milk to his coffee the barista straight up told him no. There are genuinely so many better cafes to visit in the city that are not only better quality for a cheaper price but actually provide a welcoming environment for their patrons. I seriously don’t understand how it ever gets busy here, I’m convinced people pretend to like it because they think it’s trendy when in reality I’ve never seen a place more stuck in 2018 than Alma. Don’t go here unless it’s a last resort, the one thing they have going for them is being open on Mondays while most of their competitors are closed.

Google
Cafe Alma was delightful! It is a brasserie type restaurant and coffee shop - offering made-to-order breakfast sandwiches, scratch-made soups, salads, along with specialty coffee drinks, pastries, confections and more. The servers/baristas were all so friendly and helpful!

Wow. My husband and I went to Cafe Alma for our 10 year wedding anniversary. We really loved the atmosphere, the food/drinks and the service was great. The menu changes every 5-6 weeks but this was our seasonal menu. The warm garlic flan was amazing. The portions, though typical small due to this type of plated service, were large enough to be comfortably full by the end of the meal. My husband had a daiquiri and an old fashion, and I had a N/A Melon Shrub drink and tea. Finished the night with a delicious cappuccino. Everything was fantastic. There was a 21% surcharge but I didn’t mind paying it, knowing it helps out their staff. They didn’t have a tip line so we left the cash we had on top of it because we had a great experience.

Google
Wonderful food, atmosphere, and tea. They have an order from your table using a QR code model which is only okay and can be a little bit dysfunctional in terms of order timing if you are with other people. However, the quality of the food and the atmosphere of the cafe really shines through. Still 5 stars. I really enjoyed Alma Cafe and will be back!

Google
So many friends rave to me about this place. Apparently it's high end, high quality, and has great service. So this St Paul girl drove over for a taste. I was very disappointed by the experience I had. Staff were rude. They refused to toast my cinnamon rolls and forgot to give me my cappuccino and hot chocolate. How is this a five star place? I'm not coming back.

Google
Best cafe in Mpls! By far! I love it here. I’m here almost everyday, no regrets. Definitely has some of the best staff in the city and some fantastic baristas.

Yelp
What a great dining experience for our anniversary! The ambiance of the restaurant was great, with beautiful decorations, great seating and tables. We were seated in at a table for two in the back in a cozy corner. And by cozy, I don't mean small! Tables were spread out to give you privacy and intimacy. The restaurant uses compression and release in its interior design to give it an intimate space while being open and a larger space. It also allowed us to have a conversation and it not to be too noisy. The staff were very attentive and knowledgeable of the food and wine. Our server, phoebe, was a delight and made us feel very special on our night out! The food - was fabulous! We opted to try everything on the nights options for the fixed dinner. Each course was timed perfectly, and we were given a detailed description of everything. Phoebe was also right behind with the wine pairing for each course. All in all, we had a fabulous evening out at Alma. We can't wait for the next menu!

Yelp
This is probably closer to a 3.5-star review as it wasn't quite a true 4, but was a bit better than a 3-star. Alma was a place that I had wanted to try for a very long time, and while some things hit the mark, the full experience left a bit to be desired. First off, service began a bit slow. Was probably a good 6-8 minutes once seated before anyone came with water or to even greet us. That wouldn't be a huge deal at a lesser establishment, but a high level of service should be a staple here. Luckily, it did pick up and improve from that point. The atmosphere was as advertised. Very chic, dim, and romantic. A bit cozy between tables, but all in all a solid environment to dine in. For food, there was a mix of outcomes. First up was a few little snack-type items including some cheese, breads, nuts, and olives. Nice little mix of small items. Next up was the Poached Pear & Endive Salad - a very unique, crispy, and enjoyable dish. The Duck Liver Pate was a bit overpowering, but a nice contrast in flavor to the other first plate. Following this were the pasta dishes, which were quite solid. The Meyer Lemon Orzo Pasta was fresh, the Alma Rigatoni was rich. The rigatoni was definitely one of the standouts of the evening and a borderline 5-star dish. For the main entree, the leg of lamb was good, but the accompaniments were a tad underwhelming. The meat was cooked well, was tender and flavorful. Overall, the dish was just maybe a hair above average. The second standout behind the rigatoni was the dessert, a Brown Butter Caramel Tarte. It was one of the best desserts I've had in quite some time! The sum of the parts left things in pretty good standout, but only 2 of the dishes really stood out for the level of venue that Alma falls within. The rest being closer to average or thereabouts left this experience a bit below expectation, but certainly not a terrible one by any stretch.

Yelp
After another amazing meal, I think that Alma is my favorite place in town for nicer dinners. They just do so many things really well from clever and well thought out cocktails to tasting menus that progress you through a broad theme in an incredible way. Some highlights this time were: Hiramasa Tartar was part of the Antipasti (which are always really clever). This one was so fresh and delicate that it made believers of non-raw friends. Smoked Wild Mushrooms was a very cool salad featuring those mushrooms and beets and a slight truffle flavor. Roasted Sea Scallops sat in a light coconut sauce with crazy good caukiflower Sweet Corn Cream. Brûlée was amazing. I doubted how it would work and was wrong. I could have eaten three. The service was amazing as usual. Anyone who has not been here needs to go here

Yelp
Alma Café is such a wonderful spot to grab brunch with someone. The bites are small, simple, and absolutely delicious. My favorite menu item is the fresh ricotta and toast! The space is small so you may sit pretty close to another party but the service is fast and I love the warm ambiance!

Julie D.

Yelp
I ordered take out and got the Up South. It had eggs, peppers, and pimento cheese on a biscuit. The flavor was good but it took a long time to get, over 20 minutes of waiting. It was also about $10 and not super big. The ambiance in the cafe was so cute though, so liked that they had little trinkets for sale up front. I would come back.

Yelp
Alma Cafe is such a delicious breakfast option in downtown Minneapolis! The breakfast sandwiches are so tasty - fluffy souffléd eggs, thick cut crispy bacon, tasty bread. I've thoroughly enjoyed Alma every time I've come for breakfast and I'm eager to try the full dinner sometime!

Kelsey D.

Yelp
I went to Alma's cafe for brunch with some friends and it was a great spot! We went at 9:30 on a Sunday and it was already busy and hard to find a table. I got the Up South Egg Sandwich on a gluten free roll with a Chai Tea. The gluten free sandwich took longer to come out than my friends on a biscuit but I was okay with that because I knew that it was prepared safely! The Chai Tea was really good as well and you could tell it was made in house rather than from a mix. There is street parking nearby that was free on the weekend. I would definitely return and recommend Alma's cafe.

Yelp
AMAZING!!!!! So happy that I got to experience this gem while visiting the area. The food! Wow! The creativity, the complex flavors, the fresh ingredients. One bite and I was experiencing palate euphoria. Loved the market items. ABSOLUTELY have breakfast here

Steve A.

Yelp
Food was fantastic but service was extremely lacking. Didn't receive wine pairings until most of our courses were already eaten. Wine descriptions were very general or not even close to based in reality at all.

Mary N.

Yelp
I have been to this cafe several times over the years and have always enjoyed the ambiance. However, today's visit was one of the most underwhelming lunches I have experienced. I ordered ham and lentil soup, which arrived with the tiniest piece of sourdough bread (cut in half). The soup itself was fine but was nothing memorable. My husband ordered a burger that was $16 and added on a $2 side of kettle chips, which ended up being a bag of old dutch. For a cafe that is order at the counter and bus your own table, the experience to price ratio was disappointing.

Yelp
Visited Alma Cafe on a Sunday late morning to try a limited, special dish that was only going to be available that day. It's a super vibey, hipster kind of place. The feel and decor is nice but by no means original. Very typical of what you would expect in the neighborhood. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it. There is a service counter as soon as you walk in with some pastries. Gift shop kind of goods and a small cold to go case in the foyer area. Beyond that you will find a bar area with dining in the back. The place was packed! We ordered at the counter to dine in fully expecting to end up taking it out because of the amount of people seated and waiting for a seat to open. The seating in the cafe is first come first serve, seat yourself. Much to my surprise we snagged a table literally moments before our food was ready. Perfect! The meatball sandwich that was on special I went for was phenomenal and leaves me excited to come back. All the food coming from the exposed kitchen looked incredible. I will absolutely be back to explore more of the menu.

Yelp
We arrived early for our reservation and hung out in the bar for a few minutes. I was really excited to learn that they had a seasonal shrub--it's the perfect summer option. The bartenders were really nice and very knowledgeable, and the bar is comfortable and attractive. Our table was ready soon after we arrived, so we headed over to the restaurant side. Friends, this is a really beautiful restaurant. It's the perfect blend of modern and classic--it's elegant but completely approachable. I could imagine my most put-together and classy friend hosting get-togethers in a space like this. Shortly after we were seated, our server Olive came by with the first of our antipasti--olives and spiced almonds. These were really enjoyable. Orange zest is a great seasoning for olives that doesn't show up often enough, which is a shame because it's really nice. The almonds paired the sweetness of brown sugar with the bite of pimenton. They set the tone for the rest of the evening. Next up came a flurry of other delights. There was a bread plate with Hope butter and flaked salt. There was a slice of truffle aged Gouda cheese with a dollop of pistachio butter (deep green and velvety, slightly sweet--unlike any other cheese accompaniment I've had before in a very good way). There was a warm garlic flan topped with crispy Parmesan and shiitake and surrounded by a tomato broth. My favorite was probably the crispy cauliflower, which had a beautiful jewel-toned rhubarb compote, golden beets, and shiso.. the combination of flavors, textures, and temperatures was so darned inviting and intriguing. The first course included two dishes: a soup and a tartine. The tartine was grilled sourdough topped with ricotta, heirloom tomatoes, and avocados and drizzled with a carrot vinaigrette (beautiful color, beautiful flavor). The chilled corn soup had roasted corn, crema, and charred herb oil. It was a real show-stopper: all elements of the soup but the thick, creamy corn broth were at the base of the plate, and the broth was poured over. The bright oil rose to the top and created beautiful swirls as we ate. It was a very attractive dish in addition to being delicious. Both of the dishes in this course made excellent use of the flavor of the grill--the charred elements added a very nice bit of bitterness that played nicely with the sweet, creamy, starchy, and acidic elements. Around this time, I finished my shrub and ordered one of the other zero proof drinks on the menu--the Citrus. It's yuzu, mandarin, and bitters, and it was absolutely amazing. It somehow tasted like a mix between serenity and the beach. You know that feeling you get when you come home after a long day and exhale the breath you didn't know you were holding? It's that feeling plus toes in the sand. It's that nothing to do but enjoy feeling. (Try it even if you're not a non-drinker.) For my main, I chose the grilled marinated tofu. It was really tasty. They absolutely nailed the ginger-tahini sauce, the caramelized garlic went beautifully, and the braised daikon radish? Flawless. There was also water spinach that was cooked perfectly. I realize that this was my first time seeing tofu in a fine dining setting. They nailed it. The side that came with our mains was probably my favorite dish of the evening: blistered beans and shishito peppers. Pleasant heat, kimchi sofrito, grilled plums, and tons of fresh herbs? That was the best bean dish I've had in my life. For dessert, there was a real sonnet of a dish. Sweet, composed, and beautiful, it was a lovely way to end our meal. Apricot-buttermilk sorbet came served atop a lemongrass anglaise and sprinkle of matcha crunch. A macerated raspberry on top added a bit of tartness and a beautiful blush. There were also some beautiful cookies: a madeleine, a macaroon, and shortbread. Very nice indeed. Alma is an absolutely wonderful place to dine. The service was stand-out (thank you, Olive!), the food amazing, and the atmosphere very comfortable. It would be a great place to enjoy great meal and conversation, celebrate a special occasion, or just savor some great food. It's very good for vegetarians, and the bar has fantastic low-proof and no-proof options in addition to regular cocktails and wine. I especially appreciated that they brought out a separate menu for me, the vegetarian). In some cases, it can feel like the vegetarian option is an afterthought, but here, it was seamlessly integrated. In many cases, my dish was almost identical to the non-vegetarian option (with just a small substitution of a non-vegetarian ingredient for a vegetarian one or a slightly different treatment of an ingredient to produce a similar flavor). This thoughtfulness is really special, and I really appreciated it.

Yelp
I visited Alma for a private wedding celebration and WOW, WOW, WOW! The dining space was located towards the back of the restaurant. It was small but intimate, and beautifully decorated by Alma. First, the service was outstanding! The waitresses were incredibly prompt, kind, and knowledgeable of menu questions. They were also very accommodating for those with food allergies. Second, the 5-course meal that was served was outstanding! My favorites were the Marinated Olives, Spiced Almonds, Arugula & Fig Salad, and the Seared Massachusetts Sea Scallops. I can't wait to come back and try their restaurant menu!

Yelp
We dined in the restaurant side (not the cafe) for the prix fixe experience. I was not impressed. There wasn't a lot of creativity in the dishes. I felt I was eating a series of passed hors d'oeuvres - almonds, cheese, bread? And overall, not visually appealing. Was I expecting some foam and caviar ... for the price, yes! The only app that stood out was the crab flan. The main dishes - the Arctic char was good. The duck was a bit overcooked and confit was dry. Dessert was good ... liked the basil ice cream. The restaurant itself was spaced out in a series of rooms. It never felt too jam packed and loud. Still very intimate. I really liked that about the ambiance. Service was exceptional. Wait staff was perfect. Only one correction - local Hmong farms... pronounced Mong (h is silent). Not ha-mong. Overall it was just ok and not worth the price. I came here a long time ago when they were still doing a la cart and remember being very impressed. Maybe nostalgia got the better of me.

Yelp
Great food, service and ambiance. Awesome selection of seasonally appropriate cuisine.

Tom W.

Yelp
We have been wanting to come here for the tasting menu for a while. It's so fun when a dining experience exceeds your expectations! There were so many incredible bites that it was hard to pick a favorite. We loved the warm garlic flan and crispy pork belly but when the chilled sweet corn soup came, we were blown away! The duck two ways was fantastic as well. We will definitely be back in the Fall!

J B.

Yelp
Alma is amazing. I have the chef's dinner with multiple courses. Every course is made after careful consideration of the flavors involved and the seasonal selection readily available. The flavors mix both light and savory combine in every dish. While this menu changes every month or so, I'm confident the chefs will nail it here. I'm not from Minnesota but will surely come Back if I'm in town again.

Yelp
We tried Alma Cafe for breakfast/brunch to start the day. Parking looked challenging even though we went on a Monday. I cannot imagine during the weekend or restaurant rush hours. The Bar seating area and every table had qr codes for the online menu, which had pictures for each item. I noticed the code after I ordered from the big menu sign at the top of the counter. Without any picture reference, I selected a super yummy grilled mozzarella sandwich and my usual choice of hot coffee mocha. My partner got regular coffee and a cheeseburger. It was open seated, so we sat at one of the small tables on the left side. Noice was moderate. Looks like a perfect place to study or work while eating, which I noticed some people were doing it. Drinks came quickly. My mocha was very yummy. It had a perfect amount of chocolate syrup that didn't make it super sweet, especially the bottom part of the drink. I enjoyed my drink from the first sip to the end. The grilled mozzarella sandwich was also perfect. If you are a spicy food lover you may find it a medium (4 or 5 out of 10). I don't think they ask for a spicy level. So, this is how they made the spicy salsa verde sauce. I would recommend you to order only if you like spicy. I didn't try, but my partner said the cheeseburger was so on point. This place became one of my favorite brunch spots in Minneapolis :)

Yelp
Stopped in to Alma for breakfast recently, and we were unfortunately quite disappointed. We came with our dogs to be able to enjoy our meal at an outside table. There was one table out front with diners while the rest of the tables were pushed up against a wall. When we asked if we could use one of the outdoor tables, the ladies behind counter coldly responded with a "no". We were told we weren't able to enjoy our breakfast sandwiches at the restaurant that day, but that our food would be ready to go shortly. We then proceeded to wait 35 min for two breakfast sandwiches, and when we asked during the wait how much longer it would be, the staff was extremely rude and short with us. The breakfast sandwiches were delicious once they finally arrived, but they were not worth the wait nor the very rude service. It seems as though the restaurant may be understaffed, and it's creating an unwelcoming experience.

Brianna O.

Yelp
One of my favorite cafes in Minneapolis. The pastries are fresh - the seasonal danish always hits! Their matcha is amazing as well. The atmosphere is very urban rustic - feels kind of like NYC. Just be warned its very busy on weekends and the staff gets pretty stressed and impatient with guests. but regardless I always bring my friends to Cafe Alma!

Amber S.

Yelp
We visited Alma for their New Year's Eve prix fixe dinner. We were greeted inside by the host and they took our jackets to be hung up. We were shown to our seats quickly and our server walked us through the experience. All items on the menu would be brought to the table, and there was an optional addition to the menu - foie gras with toast, oysters, and wagyu carpaccio with truffles. We chose to add the optional appetizers and the wine pairings. Our server was knowledgeable and gave us a really nice overview of each course and the wine pairings. Even though each course had multiple appetizers or parts to the dish, the wine pairings were great and paired very well. Our favorites of the night were the wagyu carpaccio with truffles and the creamy leek soup. The carpaccio was flavorful and satisfying - the truffles added a great umami note and the aioli really added to the richness of the dish. The soup was flavorful and creamy. The oil added to the top helped to add depth to the dish and the caviar and crunch toppings helped to cut through the richness of the soup. I could have licked the bowl. The restaurant was full and buzzing and the atmosphere was really lively. We hadn't been to Alma since 2020 and it was great to see them come back from the pandemic so strongly. We loved our visit and can't wait to return!

Michael W.

Yelp
This was for my wife's birthday...we stayed there as well. Staying there was great, a nice room, very comfortable and breakfast the next morning was a nice lighter way to start a day. The supper the night before...omg. Everything was lights out delicious. I mean even the panzanella(bread salad) was . My only complaint is for a table for two you run put of real estate quick when you have drinks, water, and multiple plates of food...maybe next time we have to order less. I doubt that will happen. Definitely worth a visit and a repeat visit!

Steven M.

Yelp
We have been coming here for many years. Cafe Alma is at the top of fine dining in the TC area. 1. It shows how an exquisitely constructed complete menu (meat or vegetarian) can be a symphony of tastes that far exceeds any combination of ala carte ordering. I will skip the particular entrees as they change. I will say that each was original, seasonal, and perfectly prepared. 2. The service (thank you Claire and Miles under the direction of Caprice) was informed and attentive. They knew the menu by how it tasted as well as how it was prepared. 3. The setting is quiet, large enough to be comfortable, not so large as to be annoying. The ambient noise is not a din. There are no wine pairings but the smallish wine list is very well selected. Bravo! Encore.

Yelp
Stopped by the Alma Cafe a few weeks ago to meet up with a friend who was visiting for a quick brunch bite. I did street parking just a few blocks west of the restaurant on University and there were plant of spots even despite the snow blocking many of the options. Alma is split up into a few different components: the cafe which I visited for breakfast, the dinner restaurant which is an extremely fancy prix fixe menu type of place, as well as a small hotel. I visited only the cafe as the rest are currently outside my budget, but hope to visit one day! This place was packed when I entered and seats were hard to come by, but after a few minutes of waiting, a table got up and we were able to snag it for ourselves. There are two ways to order here: either wait on the line at the front or order on your phone using the QR code on the tables. Since we were already sitting down we decided to use the QR code. For myself, I ordered the Smoked Turkey and Salami Sandwich, and my partner ordered the Baked Egg Strata which I was able to have some of as well. I was so happy with the sandwich, it was relatively reasonably priced considering the quality, it was very well filled and all the ingredients seemed fresh. The pickled peppers worked perfectly, and the salty flavor of the meets was balanced nicely by the freshness of the peppers and flavor of the bread. I can't exactly articulate what made this so good, but it was definitely a special sandwich. As for the strata, I also loved this item. It's been years since I last had a strata and this reminded me exactly of why I used to love them so much. Packed with vegetables this was so flavorful and I love the texture. This is definitely a cafe I recommend for the food explicitly, I know a lot are just cool places to work and study, but this really is a great place to eat!

Mark D.

Yelp
In a word, disappointing. Went to the cafe for breakfast. Cute, clean space with friendly and reasonably quick service. The breakfast sandwiches we tried were mediocre, unfortunately. The "Sunshine Helps" was lovely to look at but pretty flavorless. The buttermilk biscuit was downright unpleasant, hard and dense in a way that made it impossible to eat without ejecting the contents of the sandwich. I found myself thinking of hardtack as I picked at the sandwich's disassembled remains with my knife and fork. The "Up South" sandwich had a bit more flavor, almost entirely from the pimento cheese, but was otherwise underwhelming. And, like the first sandwich, the biscuit was a problem. What's the deal with their eggs? They come sheet-pan style, fluffy but tasting like air. On the upside, the blueberry smoothie was good, as was the coffee. Kind of wish the cafe and restaurant had different profiles here. From reading through, it looks like those hitting the restaurant in the evening may be having a significantly better experience. We may be back to give it a try.

Liz T.

Yelp
Visiting my friend in MN and she highly recommended this coffee shop and hotel. She and her husband even stayed here for their wedding night/honeymoon! The baristas were so friendly and great at talking about their coffee options. The space is huge and very aesthetic. I would definitely come here again with friends, to study, or to read. If you come, try the brown butter and lemon latte, as well as the berry danish.

Alice G.

Yelp
We went for the tasting menu it was absolutely perfect! We also did the wine pairing and it was 100% worth it! The staff was very knowledgeable about everything they were serving and also proud of the food they were bringing. Our waitress was also incredible knowledge about the wines that were part of the pairing when we were there. The food is fresh, tasteful, with perfect amount of texture and also with perfect amount of umami, sweet, savory and acid. The desserts were also fantastic. Coffee came with the best shortbread cookie I've ever had! Cannot recommend Alma enough!

Tom J.

Yelp
So much going on! So much to appreciate. The staff is genuinely in love with their work. Plenty of leisure to appreciate the outstanding variety of their creations. Glad we stopped in early before the place got crowded.

Jordyn R.

Yelp
This is a cute place! You can easily grab coffee or sit for breakfast/lunch. The food items are just above your standard/basic fare. There's a good amount of seating. My only gripe is that the server told us to leave by 2:30pm (when they close) but then served one couple as we were leaving at their close time. Also, The server who gave us our food forgot my chips. Neither are a huge deal, but It's the reason I'm giving 4 stars. Definitely a good local option though.

Meggers C.

Yelp
Casually elegant. Excellent sandwich delivered quickly via the QR code menu/tableside ordering. Also loved the seasonal latte-- I think it was a maple infused delight. I got the turkey burger and was more than satisfied with the flavor, juiciness, and freshness. I'd always been intimidated by this place due to its rave reviews-- what a waste of years I could've been enjoying its loveliness!

Mitch A.

Yelp
I've been here a few times and am consistently impressed. Breakfast and lunch in their cafe is seat yourself. You order from a QR code at your table. Service is quick and friendly. Drip coffee was solid. Vibe is definitely classy cafe. If you squint a bit you feel like you're in a Europe. Lunch options are varied, well-made and flavorful. I've also been for their prix fixe menu. Excellent with wine pairing and various impressive dishes. Definitely will be back!

Lauren H.

Yelp
Alma has 3 distinct areas: cafe, hotel and fancy restaurant. This review is for the classy restaurant with the 12 item prix fixe tasting menu. My hubby and I have been here twice and the service was top notch both times. He is a foodie and LOVES the food as well as the casual dress code. I love the clean, modern decor, but the modern American "foodie food" is hit or miss for me.

Ojus P.

Yelp
Fun healthy, tasty option. Stopped by the cafe and would love to come back for a tasting menu. You can order online and pick up, sit at a table outside and order, or wait in line. Casual alert vibe. Blueberry smoothie - 5/5. Milky, well rounded. Perfect smoothie. Saffron Rice - 4.5/5. Great textures with hard rice and soft chickpeas. I'm not typically a parsley fan but it works great. Complex, hearty. Just a tad too oily. Sourdough - 4/5. Crusty bread with salty butter and fruit jam. Solid. Squash Soup - 4.5/5. Seasonal item. Nice creamy level. Pesto works great.

Kamni M.

Yelp
We loved our dinner date at Alma. Each of the courses was wonderful and each bite was to die for. The ambience was super date like and intimate. The wine offered was yummy and we can't wait to go back! Parking is also pretty easy to find on the street!

Yelp
Excellent experience, service and food. Best tasting menu in the Twin Cities. Staff and restaurant is one the most organized and efficient that you will ever find.

Service was very poor and the waiters were disrespectful and they brought us the tea and delayed our crescent we ordered until the hot tea got cold, had to go and ask in person for our order and they started looking for the order sheet cause they've lost it already and couldn't find our order, servers were very disrespectful and I'll never and ever return to this place ever again nor would I recommend anyone to go there for a breakfast or brunch, worst idea and experience thinking I'll come over with my girlfriend for a breakfast...

Yelp
I would suggest adding this place to the to do list when visiting Minneapolis. I would put it right behind the Vikings unless of course your hungry. Great food and service!

Yelp
Alma was a totally unexpected delight in my recent visit to Minneapolis. This review is just for the cafe, which I visited for breakfast. The coffee was fantastic. I really enjoyed my latte. The number of gf and vegan options was really impressive, and none of them were a sacrifice of flavor! I particularly enjoyed the little almond orange cake, and had a fantastic breakfast sandwich as well. On another day I tried the gf banana bread which was also really nice. The staff were helpful and pleasant, and somehow despite being a low service environment (you order and pay through your phone and bus your own table) it felt welcoming and high end. Definitely recommend and I know I'll be back!

Yelp
I yelped Alma out for a Healthy Sunday brunch. It fit right into my expectation. Contemporary and minimal interior with plenty of special choices. Love the cabbage-cucumber slaw, very unique! The beets salad and fried cauliflower are not uncommon but there were special twists, definitely worth trying. Overall a great lay back place for Sunday brunch.

Yelp
Most of the food was fantastic. Bacon was thick, soft centered fat, AND crispy ends. Soup was very flavorful but lukewarm. Biscuit sandwich individual ingredients were fine, but biscuit was under done. Cappuccino was ok, not smooth, too much milk. Oatmeal was served very room temperature

Yelp
This was our first time to the restaurant side of Alma. The service and food were excellent. The staff was very attentive and knowledgeable, and the flavors just kept impressing us. We love a good prix fixed menu, and this one did not disappoint! The menu felt smart and very well thought out. We did one of each menu, and the vegetarian options were equally delicious and satisfying. Starting with the antipasta course, liked that there was a variety of perfect bites... like reading a really great compilation of short stories with a clear theme. There was definitely an Asian fusion theme, which can be so hit or complete miss, but these dishes were definitely hits! The 2nd course was the cold rice noodle salad and charred Japanese yams, which were great on their own and surprisingly good together! The salad was bright and fresh, whereas the yams were very homey and comforting. It was delicious. The mains were good, but maybe my least favorite course of the entire meal. The black cod and duck breast were delicious, but the roasted duck wasn't special and the veggies were just a tad salty. But, Im NOT complaining! Finally. the passionfruit mousse... my mouth is watering as I write this. It was sweet, tart and creamy with the perfect crunch of the crumble. YUM! We will definitely be back!

Yelp
''Twas the night before my daughter went to college and we wanted something really special and a longer dinner to have conversation and enjoy the meal. This checked all of the boxes. The meal was scrumptious. It was expensive but it was an experience we really enjoyed. Every course was explained to us in detail. It was well worth it. It was a great send off to both of my kids to college and I am now an empty nester!

Yelp
Been a few years since we have been back...And Still a great meal! Staff was great , wine was great and timing of food was great. Only down side is the loud group of six drunk guys who thankfully only showed up towards the end of our stay. Definitely worth the drive from Stillwater.

Yelp
Review of coffee Cafe from morning visit on 9/12/23. You know how when you walk into a coffee cafe, and the place has a variety of baked goods displayed behind a counter, and in front of each type of baked good they have their price displayed, and then they charge you that price plus sales tax? Well, when you come in to the Cafe at Alma, you can't expect that. This morning, while walking in the area, waiting for some work to be completed on my car, I stopped in to see what baked treats they had. I noticed two different cookies in their bakery case, and decided on their "triple chocolate chip" cookie because it was described to me as a balanced combination of crunch & chewy texture. The posted prices of each of the two types of cookies was $1.50. However, when the cookie was rung up, the charge was $2, with $0.22 tax on top of that. When I pointed out that their posted price is not $2, but $1.50, the young man stated that that's the price in their system and he could not change it. I suggested that if they're going to charge more for an item, they ought to correct their posted prices. He said he'd let management know. I received my single cookie in a paper sleeve, got myself a napkin and left the shop, and proceeded on my walk. Opening the paper sleeve, I find it kinda stuck together on one side with a gob of white icing, something I did not ask for, nor expected. Good thing I'd grabbed a napkin before I left the place. That cookie was good; however, the general experience left a foul taste in my mouth.

Yelp
Food: 3/5. Tasting menu, February 2024. Just OK. Service: 3/5. Service is too casual for the kind of experience they're attempting to create. Overpriced and overrated.

Yelp
Service: Decent at best. The server did explain each of the courses but seemed unsure of themselves about certain ingredients. They were able to remove an ingredient by our request which was nice. For a tasting menu however, my biggest complaint is that they did not give us fresh silverware for each course. It was extremely disappointing for $350+ dinner that they couldn't find it in them to give us new silverware for each course. It was unappetizing to have remnants of each previous course on the utensils and eat it with the next. The service is just overall too causal for what they are trying to be. Food: I will say when booking ahead of time I'd booked with a previous seasons menu, it was disappointing to see a new one upon arrival but it is what it is. With any tasting menu, there were hits and misses. The Panda Power drink seemed intriguing because I'd never seen pandan as an ingredient in any drink, but I could not taste the pandan whatsoever. I also ordered the La Opuntia because of the ingredient jalapeño, but I also couldn't taste any spice. Ambiance: The tables are pretty closely tucked together and the restaurant was really loud at prime dinner time so it was kind of hard to hear one another. Note: We were the last reservation for the night so when leaving we did quickly stop by the cafe and they gave my partner a free fresh juice.

Yelp
Alma is always top in food and wine pairing. Always enjoy being there for our special occasions. This year did the hotel & couldn't have been more pleased. On arrival wine, dinner then sleep was great, breakfast great!!! Looking forward to doing again!

Yelp
Wow this place definitely is worth the hype! Also this review is just for the cafe as I haven't tried their dinner menu before. The Up South breakfast sandwich is so good! Their coffee drinks are also so delicious- the coffee is smooth and there is a good balance between bitterness and sweetness for me. Their baked goodies all also very good- not too sweet and usually moist. My friends and I really enjoyed the coconut macaroons- it was nutty, flakey and sweet. It is more on the pricier side but the freshness, quality and flavors are definitely there to make it worth it. I would definitely recommend trying at least once. Parking is a little annoying but the area is like that overall being right by the UMN campus no surprise. Ordering is super easy as you can order online or at the counter.

Yelp
I can't write about this place being great enough! From start to finish amazing and catered to your every need and want. True customer service. The servers were very well informed and we loved how they explained every dish and took us on a culinary journey if you will. It was my 10th year wedding anniversary and they did just an amazing job. Definitely going back and would recommend it anyone!
