Cafe Beignet Revives the French Quarter’s Old Coffee Pot with New Restaurant - Eater New Orleans

"A restaurant returned to the historic, 125-year old site of The Old Coffee Pot on Saint Peter Street yesterday, this time run by the folks behind French Quarter chain Cafe Beignet. The Old Coffee Pot’s closure in February was felt by New Orleans visitors from all over the country, as over the years the cafe had cemented its status as a French Quarter tourist destination for classic Creole breakfasts, bread pudding, and calas, a sweet rice-based fritter somewhere between a beignet and a buttermilk drop. The restaurant was the subject of an unsparing 2018 episode of “Gordon Ramsay’s 24 Hours to Hell and Back,” and struggled in recent years despite its prime location next to renowned bar Pat O’ Brien’s and blocks from tourism mecca Jackson Square. Owner Dustin Palmisano, who took over the restaurant six years ago after waiting tables there, closed shop eight months after the episode aired, citing the post-makeover renovation and ongoing French Quarter construction. The group that bought the Old Coffee Pot operates three other Cafe Beignet locations in the Quarter; on Royal Street, Bourbon Street, and Decatur Street. Peter Moss, a partner in the group, told Nola.com that it worked to restore the cafe’s prior charm by repainting the walls its previous Caribbean coral colors and recreating murals that previously adorned the walls. Moss and his partners opened the first Cafe Beignet in 1990, and have a fifth planned for Canal Street in a space that was previously a PJ’s coffee shop." - Clair Lorell

Gordon Ramsay To “Rescue” New Orleans’ Trolley Stop Cafe in Tonight’s Show Premiere - Eater New Orleans

"Last year, an episode of Gordon Ramsay’s 24 Hours to Hell and Back featured French Quarter restaurant The Old Coffee Pot, in which the highlight was a dead mouse found in the bottom of a toaster." - Clair Lorell

So you have made it to New Orleans and now you need your beignet fix until you see the lines and your enthusiasm for millions of calories wanes. I have found the solution in that there are a few Cafe Beignet outposts in the Quarter without the really long line. This is not to say the short line was fast - they were as slow but still better than a long line. (Too few workers at the counter). But the beignets are the real thing: crunchy gooey and plenty of powdered sugar. The coffee was thick but paired nicely with the treats. Now proceed with the marathon you will need to run to work it off (they come in threes).

Great place I love the atmosphere. The staff was friendly and the beignets optimal. Very affordable and lots of seats in case you want to take a break from all the craziness around cafe du monde

Really great place, I enjoyed it. The architecture of the place was amazing. Also I got the Rick Krispy treats, was really good. Also I got some Beignet's they were really good for my first one I ever had.

Been there a few times. Sometimes it feels their beignet is better than cafe du Monde. They have almond dessert which is also very good. I also had gumbo. It was okayish.

Don't even bother going to Cafe Du Monde and waiting in that long line! This place is AMAZING! Alton Brown loved it and so did we! We waited like 15 minutes and worth it! Go!

Came here almost 30mins before closing time but the beignets we ordered were super fresh, fried, and doughy as if they had just opened. The menu said three came in an order of beignets but to our surprise we received four powdered pillows! Charming southern decor.

Great little cafe (recommended by Alton Brown from the food network!) to get coffee and delicious beignets, they were so light and fluffy and we enjoyed the music

Live music on a Friday night. Food is good for a quick bite. Nicest part of this place is the little courtyard tucked away and the super clean and somewhat elegant looking upstairs bathroom.
