I have now tried every reputable Bahn mi shop in San Francisco and I will say they have the best ones yet. The balance between the meat and veggies is perfect and everything is super fresh and flavorful. The sandwich and veggies are crunchy and the meat soft. The lemongrass steak is to die for. They also have other options like pho that seemed legit. I need to go back and try. Seating inside is available. They only take cash.

Casual Vietnamese joint, with a large menu. We came here for lunch and sat near the window. They have a couple tables outside for seating as well. There is only one washroom. Basically you pay and order, and you get a number while you wait for your food to arrive. Service is very no frills. We got the five spice chicken pho, five spice chicken Saigon noodle vermicelli, and steak Saigon noodle. They didn't include too much meat for the vermicelli dishes. I liked that the spring rolls were fresh. Keep in mind that they do contain pork. Unfortunately, I was disappointed that they didn't include any of the usual Thai Basil and other herbs in the vermicelli dishes. The pho broth was ok, nothing outstanding.

Love these Sandos. Usually never disappoints. I always get the pork. However the one time I try chicken I crunched on not one bone but two. One bone in both sides of the sandwich. As I’m getting older I try to avoid the dentist if possible. This coulda been bad. I still love this place but just a heads up.

This place had some really good cold vermicelli dishes. Looks grungy but food is delicious! The bowl looks as good as it tastes.

As I entered, the pretty young cashier was blowing her nose into a paper towel with both hands, then wiped her hands off with a paper towel, NEVER WASHED them before coming to the register to take my order. Disgusted, but grateful she would not be touching my sandwich, having already paid for an hour of parking, hungry, and looking forward to a great eggplant and veggie bahn mi for my birthday. I lost my appetite and decided I'd give away what ended up being an expensive CARROT SANDWICH. Never again!

Great prices for the best (and largest) Banh Mi I’ve ever had. Lemongrass steak continues to be my favorite sandwich option!

A few weeks ago, I came across this place while I was around Clement St. I've walked by it a few times before but always noticed that it always had a line and busy around lunchtime. I am one who never likes to line up for food in SF due to the fact that we can get good food anywhere we turn in this city. However, this particular day, I realised it was empty, but I found out later that I was lucky I came in a few minutes right before the lunch rush. I got myself a window seat facing the street and enjoyed the food that now, a few weeks later, I kept going back on a weekly basis a few times twice a week. Now it's like a Friday and sometimes Monday ritual to go walk around Clement St, pick up my sauce and yummy food around the area, and have something at Cafe Bunn Mi. Place is clean, Menu has variety of choices, Staff are amaizing and the food prep is super fast and my order was out within 10min in my case. The sandwiches are to die for eventho a little more expensive than a few of the places around the Avenues, but it's so worth it with the portions. And the noddle bowls are now becoming my favorite. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a fast Vietnamese place around Clement St where food tastes good and the service is fast. I'd recommend going in a little early or after a lunch rush if u wanna take your time and enjoy your food. A 5star in my book, and I am glad I decided to walk in to try it out cause in 3 weeks, I think I have done 5 dine in and 3 times to go.

Been going here for years. The bahn are delicious with perfectly crunchy bread. Always nice to sit at the open windows, enjoy a sandwich, and people watch. Highly recommended!

I've been wanting to try this place forever, they always have a steady stream of business in the restaurant and To Go pickup orders too! YAY! I finally had time and dropped in today and was so happy that I did! Huge weather change in the city and it was time for some hot pho! I was also starving! :0) Nice, solid selection of Sandwiches, Pho, Rice and Noodle dishes. I ordered the House Special Beef Variety Pho which is the top one listed on the menu/board and it did not disappoint! Tasty, piping hot bowl of pho! YAY! :0) LOTS of Pho and a Variety of Yummy Beef! Added on the regular fixings and I was in heaven! Broth was yummy too! :0) Next up, I devoured the fresh Shrimp Spring Rolls. Lots of fresh, crispy lettuce and pho wrapped perfectly! I thought this type of spring roll also had pork, but it's been so long since I had Vietnamese Spring rolls I can't even remember, maybe restaurants don't make shrimp and pork combos anymore or never did. Regardless, the 2 rolls were delightfully yummy and I would still order them on my next visit. Service was very fast, efficient and friendly. I really enjoyed my mini visit to Clement street. Always a charming area of the city! I walked around after this huge meal and discovered that there's an ice cream shop and a crepe shop nearby. If I hadn't eaten so much, I would have gone to one of these dessert places! :0) FYI - They DO take credit cards here! YAY! I rarely carry cash so this was perfect! It was approximately $31 for these 2 items. Prices have skyrocketed everywhere during Covid. Sigh! Thank You for the wonderful very late lunch! Can't wait to return! :0)

Cafe Bunn Mi is a small family owned casual Vietnamese restaurant on Clement in the SF's richmond district. We were nearby and just stopped in for a quick lunch. The place was rate 3.9 on Yelp, so we didn't expect a lot. Price are not cheap, welcome to inflation. Bahn mi was definitely better than the Pho. Safety Pluses - Online menu, Delivery services available, online ordering, outdoor seating Food Review: Grilled Pork Sandwich ($12.50) was solid with good bread and a reasonable amount of meat and pate. 8/10 Eye Round Steak Noodle Soup ($16.50) had a salty broth and not the best meat. Stick to the Bahn Mi. Not cheap. I'll take the pho at Pho Hanoi any day. 6.5/10 Thai Iced Tea ($5.50) was okay. Overall - Good Food - Good Decor - Fair Service - Good Value - Fair Would we come back - No

We got the Grilled Pork, Lemongrass Steak, and the Buddha Tofu Sandwiches...all were equally flavorful and deliciously packed in with ample amount of ingredients! They did forget to make one of the sandwiches so one of us had to stare at the other two while they indulge on every bite of their yummy sandwich with no shame ;-) My only gripe is the lack of seating and comfortable space for patrons. Guess it's really better suited for takeouts.

Crispy duck sandwich was amazing and pretty big! So good , the cabbage, cilantro and jalapeños on it were very fresh too. The roll was excellent and just a nice crunch. I waited about 10 minutes after ordering. You can order and get a number than they bring it to you. There's about a dozen seats at table, 4 at a nice bar at the window looking out at the street and a few tables outside. Awesome quick banh mi option

Came to Cafe Bunn Mi after multiple recommendations from friends and family in the area. Definitely lived up to the hype! My friends regularly get takeout from them. The restaurant for dining in looks comfortable, and staff are warm and friendly. We got the grilled pork, fried chicken and lemongrass beef banh mi's and Vietnamese coffees. The ratio of meat to toppings is really solid, and the flavor was great! Clement Street has so many great Asian restaurants. Parking can be a bit tough on weeknights or farmers' market days, so we usually walk, ride share or do takeout on Clement in general. Excited to come back to CBM and try more sandwiches and sides.

Excellent vegetarian (vegan without the aioli) Bahn Mi! I must say it is the best I have ever had. Some kind of vegan spread (rather than just leaving off the pate) makes it so good.

I had a fantastic experience at Cafe Bunn Mi on Clement! Initially, I was a bit skeptical because of the prices, but every bite was worth it. I ordered the pork belly sandwich and the lemongrass steak sandwich. The pork belly was incredibly tender and practically melted in my mouth. While the lemongrass wasn't very lemony, it was still deliciously tender. The staff were also incredibly kind and friendly, adding to the overall positive experience. I appreciated the fact that they have a bathroom and self-serve water free of charge. It's also nice that they ask customers to clean their tables and return the trays given for dine-in, keeping the place tidy and pleasant for everyone. I would definitely recommend Cafe Bunn Mi to anyone looking for a delicious and satisfying meal. I'll be returning for sure!

Came here for dinner last night with my boyfriend. Loved how it's a casual dining space. You order up front then take a seat at one of the many seats inside. My boyfriend and I both ordered the House Combination Beef Pho. At the front you can grab your utensils and saucers for the Sriracha & Hoisin. The broth was delicious & flavorful, though it was almost to the point where it was too salty. The noodles and beef were good. Not the greatest pho I've had. 7/10. Adding the lemon was a great choice. Next time I'll definitely try one of their many Banh Mis. Can't wait to be back!

First off, I must say that the menu was HUGE! Literally, it takes up a whole wall no joke. I wanted to try everything but I ended up getting the duck banh mi and the combo banh mi. Duck banh mi- I'm not the biggest fan of duck, but this sandwich was delicious. There were huge chunks of duck meat and the pieces were super fatty. Every piece coated my mouth in delicious duck fat and my lips were glistening like I had just put on lip gloss. Not bad at all. Combo banh mi- This thing was absolutely LOADED! Vietnamese pork roll slices, ham, all the delicious fixings. It looked like a giant burrito wrapped up in deli paper. First bite I thought the bread was actually nice and soft with a little bit of crisp to it. The mayonnaise then swoops in under my palate and the flavors of the meat start having a fiesta in my mouth. I need to get this again!

Amazing banh mi. Kinda expensive but for the area...I still think it's really good. Went with the pork belly which was cooked to perfection with lots of meat. Great veggies and pate. Also tried three shrimp rolls which were also pricey but still good. They get the authentic banh mi flavors just right!!

Small cafe with 3-4 tables serving Vietnamese dishes. I got the five spice chicken bahn mi sandwich. It's not comparable to a traditional bahn mi as it is loaded with veggies and meat. The flavours were good, not the best bahn mi I've had but it's a good sandwich. The bread was really really good, soft on the inside with a crunchy crust

I ordered a Bun mi, lemon grass beef and chicken we rice dinner ..holy cow it was bomb!!!!! Vermicelli so simple but make it packed a taste the corn was so delish and juicy.. the sandwich was great if I lived closer I would eat there every day no lie ..

Called in to pickup a crispy duck sandwich, and service was very friendly despite them being bombarded with orders. The sandwich came out to around $18, which is a bit pricier than I'd like for a banh mi, and it took ten minutes to be ready. The duck had some crunchy juicy parts and also some tougher dry parts, but that's as expected from duck meat. Flavors were on point and I love the mayo with the slaw. The bread is also perfected toasted and soft inside. I'd come back to try their other sandwiches if I'm craving a Vietnamese sandwich nearby.

The garlic fries, chicken wings and banh mi delicious! Dinosaurs is our go to spot but have to say that we enjoyed Cafe Bunn Mi almost as much.

We were looking for good meal on the airplane trip back home. It is common for us to get Bahn Mi sandwiches and Cafe Bun Mi looked good. Close to Clement St., it was easy to stop in and order 2 sandwiches. The service was fast and the gentleman behind the counter double wrapped the sandwi as we told him it was for a plane ride home. We ordered a 5-spiced chicken sandwich with shaved / pickled carrots, daikon and onions, jalapeno, cilantro, pate, caramel sauce, 5 spiced chicken, cucumber and aioli. The sandwich was good, perfect crunch on the bread and a heat bomb from the jalepeno. The grilled pork sandwich was our second choice again with perfect crunch from the bread, delicious grilled pork, pickled/ shaved carrots, daikon and onions, and pate. The grilled pork was fabulous. Overall, a good 5-spiced chicken and fabulous grilled pork sandwich. If you are looking for a flavorful, filling and great value sandwich, stop by Cafe Bunn Mi. I just noticed they has a presence at the SFO airport.

I tried the roast duck bahn mi, and it was a cold night, so I ordered a bowl of broth, which was soothing for the soul. The bread was a bit soft and large and not typically the type of banh mi I like.

We always get Togo orders when we are on the way home so we don't need to find parking. The staffs are really nice and professional. We love the crispy duck sandwiches and the combination sandwiches! They are flavorful and have a good amount of filling. Definitely will come back again!

I've been eating the fried chicken sandwich and imperial rolls for over 15 years and it's always worth it. Take the dipping sauce from the rolls and poor it on the sandwich.

Food - ordered the crispy duck bahn mi. Pretty unique because I don't think most places have duck! Bread was super crispy. Duck was flavorful and had a lot of meat and veggies. Highly recommend! The price is a little expensive though. I think I paid around $21-$23 for a bahn mi and Thai tea. Thai tea was average. Not too sweet and pretty standard. Service - pretty good. Ordered and seated myself. Food came out pretty fast. Ambiance- very small with a few tables. They also have seating outside in front so that's always a good choice but tables were pretty full when I got there. I do like that they have a row of single seaters near the window. Nice view and comfortable seating.

Came to area for a short period of time with my mom, discovering businesses up and down Inner Richmond, Clement street. Initially, my impression of the business was more "Americanized" version of Vietnamese sandwich. Boy, was I wrong. I checked out the place a few days later with a few sandwiches, Hue Noodles, crab noodles. I totally enjoyed the combo sandwich. one of the best I have had, mind you I am Vietnamese. So on my way home for first week, I ordered a big order of sandwiches and noddles to take home and same for the following week. when my brother later asked me where I got the sandwiches, He was also surprised when I told him where it was. Must be my mom told him since she also enjoyed the food there.

Cafe Bunn Mi is a small shop in the Inner Richmond area. It is a small shop with some tables to dine in. Service is decent, and food was not too bad of a wait either. I tried their combo banh mi sandwich and their garlic french fries. The banh mi was decent - a little dry though, and it was nothing special compared to other spots, as well as on the pricier side. The garlic fries were really good though - I am not the biggest fan of garlic, so I was skeptical, but it was a subtle garlic flavoring to it and it was not too salty either.

Ordered the combination rice plate and was so excited when it was served cause it looks delicious but the only thing actually delicious was the shrimp. The chicken was cold and the pork chop was 85% fat. Very disappointed for such an expensive plate. Won't be back.

Passed by this place and was craving a banh mi so I went in for a quick pick up. I got the combo pork banh mi, which came with roast pork, fancy pork, head cheese, pate, onions, pickled carrots, daikon radishes, cilantro, jalapeño and aioli. There were only 1 other table seated when i went in to order, but it still took almost 15 minutes for them to make my 1 banh mi. The banh mi was delicious though, great bread to filling ratio. I had filling from the very first bite, which sometimes with banh mis you get a lot of bread. This banh mi was also smaller compared to other places and it was pretty pricey, with the total coming out to be $12.50.

The place is a little cafe. Very self serve..: you even have to get your own drink from the drink from a fridge across the room. The staff in general are not that friendly. A worker wiped a table for themselves to eat, but left every single empty table messy! Just awkward.. . Because the space is so small! It made me wish I didn't tip! The plum soda was super super salty!!! I couldn't enjoy it! I mentioned it to the waiter and they didn't refund me the $5.50, but were happy to sell me a can of soda! The sandwich was a typical ban mi! Good! I recommend to order to go... don't bother complaining, know what you're going to get before. The rest room was the worst experience!! Use hand sanitizer! Street parking only.

This has always been a solid option for banh mis in the inner Richmond district! My personal favorite is the grilled pork sandwich. All sandwiches come with onions, pickled carrots and radish, cilantro, cucumber, jalapenos, and an aioli spread. Perfect to pick up and take to the park for a nice little picnic! It comes out to about $12 per sandwich, but it's pretty filling and half is usually enough for me for a lunch portion. I have also tried their pho before and honestly wasn't worth the price point imo - would stick to the sandwiches here. Parking can also be tough in the area and most of the spots are metered since there are a lot of businesses on Clement. They are also **cash only!!** but they do have a small atm inside (although I've never seen anyone actually use it). Overall, a solid option if you're ever craving a banh mi!

I ordered the veggie rolls to go. This consisted of 2 long rolls of lettuce, fried tofu, mint, noodles, and mushrooms. It came with peanut sauce.. I was satisfied and it was surprisingly filling. Next time I'll try the veggie Buddha tofu sandwich. Looked like they pack their sandwiches full. The cashier was very nice and answered any questions I had. EDIT: I went back and bought the Buddha banh mi today and it did not disappoint! Lots of flavor from the lemongrass sauce, and a good amount of fried tofu. Very happy to have found this new favorite for a quick bite.

Cafe Bunn Mi is one of the best banh mi places I've been to in SF. They have all the flavors you want in a banh mi, are not too spicy and are STUFFED with meat. I got the grilled pork which was really good but apparently their specialty is the crispy duck.

ordered takeout on their website and picked it up at the store. located on clement street around a lot of other asian restaurants and bakeries. prices are pricey for banh mi in SF but quality was good and they have some unique items like the duck banh mi. // grilled pork banh mi (11.50) // i ordered this banh mi with most of the options on it. i was satisfied with the amount of meat and vegetables in my banh mi. the grilled pork was good and i liked the pickled veggies and sauce. there was a jalapeño that added a kick to it. i appreciate that you can select what you want inside and there's an option to get two halves individually wrapped which is nice. id come back if i was in the area. definitely have had much cheaper banh mi in SF but this one tasted good!

No garlic noodles at this location :( I am a big fan of Cafe Bunn Mi in SSF's garlic noodles (it's the best!), but unfortunately this location does not sell it. I did come in wanting to try their pho, so I ordered the house special beef noodle soup. House Special Beef Noodle Soup (3/5)- The broth is the sweetest I've tasted; maybe a bit too sweet for my liking. It also looks quite oily on the surface. There also wasn't as much meat as other places with similar price points. BBQ pho- My boyfriend ordered their BBQ pho with lemongrass steak and added the 5 spice chicken for extra costs. While the chicken is big, the lemongrass beef is very small portioned. Overall, this location and experience was okay.

I used to go this place all the time when I lived in the neighborhood. It was always so tasty. On a return visit to SF I made a special trip to go. Boy was I disappointed. I ordered the lemongrass rice plate. Not only was the meat wet and rubbery I think they gave me pork. I couldn't finish it.

Had a craving for bahn mi's and wanted to check out the nearby farmer market (on sundays! It was very nice) so found this place with pretty good yelp reviews! I would say the bahn mi were just okay. I always go for the combination pork as it's a classic bahn mi but our sandwich felt dry, as if there want not enough spread. It also seemed like it was uneven portioned for veggies to meat ratio. The spring rolls also felt underwhelming in weight. I expect spring rolls to be tightly wrapped (even if it's not packed full) but instead it felt limp. The space is nice but small, and doesn't get much sunlight. Good for a quick stop and pick me up. Staff was very friendly. You bus your own tables and waters. I would probably not come back for the banh mi or spring rolls, but perhaps if I'm back in the neighborhood I may give a bowl of noodles a try!

We have finally visited this beloved shop on our little stroll down Clement! There is so much street parking around here and a lot of stores to walk by, so definitely recommend planning to spend a few hours down here. It is a small shop and there is some indoor and outdoor seating options, which we appreciated. I noticed that some people will purely come here for their drinks so next time we'll have to try them. Crispy duck Banh mi 5/5 ($12) - I have never had a breaded fried piece of duck but I'm now convinced that this is the way to go - the slaw added is zesty but doesn't rake away from the traditional Banh mi flavors - it looks to be shorter in length than other Banh mis BUT it is wide in girth

Cafe Bunn Mi is my go-to spot for banh mi in SF. Coming from San Jose originally and being surrounded by cheap Viet eats my whole life, I am usually hesitant to spend more than $10 for a banh mi. I had a craving one day and decided to just go for it - I loved it so much I developed a phase where I went once a week for almost a year. My favorite is the lemongrass steak sandwich - the beef is tender, flavorful, and they are very generous with the fillings. I like to add pâté for an additional cost. The bread is soft and not too crunchy, which I prefer. I've also tried their crispy duck sandwich once and wasn't a fan. It had a lot of cartilage and fat I had to keep picking out and overall didn't have much flavor. Their pho ("House special beef noodle soup) and bun bo hue ("spicy beef noodle soup") are pretty solid and worth trying if you like those dishes. My boyfriend enjoys their garlic chicken wings as well. It's a small shop with limited seating and a few tables outside. The workers have always been helpful and friendly in my experiences. It's cash only and their ATM sometimes doesn't work but thankfully there are a few banks and ATMs around. Definitely worth the drive across the city for!

This place was a little hole in the wall but their banh mi's were SO good and flavorful I want to come back to try their one others! I got their crispy duck and it definitely did not disappoint! The duck was so juicy and flavorful and mixed so well with the coleslaw salad. The bread was toasted so it was warm and crispy as well. Even when I brought half of it home and reheated it I thought it was still so good! Will definitely have to go back to try their other meat banh mi!

SO incredible. I went to this place based off a recommendation from a friend and it blew me away. I meant to save half of my chicken sandwich for dinner but it was so good I ate all of it. The bread was toasted just right, the chicken was crispy, and overall, the experience was wonderful. The place is cash only, but there is an ATM just a block away to make it super easy!

The prices keep going up but the food is good. They have great service too. You can sit inside or outside and even though the prices are high, the portions are pretty good. They now take all forms of payment. Used to be cash only.

I am really glad that they've upped their game again. The tofu bahn mi is incredible - lemongrass adds a unique taste and it's much less sweeter than some of the other ones I've had in the city. It's my new favorite bahn mi place in SF! Really like the tofu bowl as well. Parking is a pain since it's bang in the middle of clement. I usual order ahead, double park outside and grab it to go. They had a funny phase earlier in the year when they were stingy about siracha, glad we're past that phase lol.

The papaya salad was probably the best I've ever had, served with shrimp seasoned well. Amazing! The pork sandwich was stellar, with great bread. Wasn't crazy about the bun noodles. Wish they hadn't been cold. Definitely coming back for the sandwiches and papaya salad

Loved the crunchy duck bun mi... everyone ordered the crunchy chicken bun min when I went. I will try next time! Loads of flavor, crunch, and great size. Also convenient hours! Open early.

Wonderful banh mi's. The smoky vegetable for me deserves the greater praise. Lots of flavor, bread was soft and held up well as it sat for a short bit before being consumed. Chicken was a bit dry and the pork was just right. All sandwiches had a generous amount and balance of meat and vegetables. Plenty to share for 2. Enjoy a wonderful sandwich.

Many iterations of the iconic sandwiches but still a reference in San Francisco. Bread quality has decreased and the pickles veggies are no longer super crunchy BUT the fish sandwich remains super good.
