"Cafe Demetrio is a Coral Gables classic where you can sit outside under a shady banyan tree and have some solid brunch dishes that mostly involve eggs. The coffee is good too. We love the Cafe Demetrio—a double espresso with bittersweet chocolate and milk, served with a delicate cacao powder heart suspended on the foam. You can order breakfast and brunch all day too, so don't worry about setting an alarm to get here before noon. "They say Newton developed the law of gravity while sitting under an apple tree. And although Coral Gables doesn't have a single apple tree (that we know of), it does have Cafe Demetrio—a historic building next to a giant banyan tree. Sit inside at one of many small wooden tables and enjoy a grilled chicken sandwich. "Self-appointed as “Coral Gables’ first coffeehouse,” husband and wife Demetrio and Vilma Pina provide a welcoming space for all, from harried businessmen to blue-collar workers seeking a good cup of joe. Whether it’s a cinnamon toast latte, dark cacao latte, white mocha, or the true baristas (a blend of caramel and chocolate latte topped with whipped cream), there’s a coffee for everyone. It’s grilled chicken breast with thick bacon, spinach, muenster cheese, tomato, and chipotle aioli on a baguette.
