Artisanal coffee & light meals served in warm quarters with old-world flair & a leafy courtyard.
"They say Newton developed the law of gravity while sitting under an apple tree. And although Coral Gables doesn't have a single apple tree (that we know of), it does have Cafe Demetrio—a historic building next to a giant banyan tree. Sit inside at one of many small wooden tables and enjoy a grilled chicken sandwich. Or relax outside under the shade of that banyan tree—where there’s a surprising amount of outlets—and wait for the brilliant idea that’ll get you a raise to fall out of the sky." - ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo, mariana trabanino
"Self-appointed as “Coral Gables’ first coffeehouse,” husband and wife Demetrio and Vilma Pina provide a welcoming space for all, from harried businessmen to blue-collar workers seeking a good cup of joe. Whether it’s a cinnamon toast latte, dark cacao latte, white mocha, or the true baristas (a blend of caramel and chocolate latte topped with whipped cream), there’s a coffee for everyone. Added bonus: tasty breakfast, brunch, and lunch dishes are also served." - Alona Martinez
"One of our favorite spots to eat and get work done in Coral Gables is Cafe Demetrio. You can sit outside under a shady banyan tree or inside the historic building decorated with Victorian paintings, an upright piano, and vintage brass teapots. You can order breakfast and brunch all day, but the chicken and bacon sandwich is why we come here. It’s grilled chicken breast with thick bacon, spinach, muenster cheese, tomato, and chipotle aioli on a baguette. It comes with a side of crunchy ruffled chips that we like to stuff into the sandwich sixth-grade lunch style. " - virginia otazo, ryan pfeffer
"Cafe Demetrio is a Coral Gables classic where you can sit outside under a shady banyan tree and have some solid brunch dishes that mostly involve eggs. The coffee is good too. We love the Cafe Demetrio—a double espresso with bittersweet chocolate and milk, served with a delicate cacao powder heart suspended on the foam. You can order breakfast and brunch all day too, so don't worry about setting an alarm to get here before noon. But if you do come here closer to lunch (or just aren't in the mood for breakfast), get the chicken and bacon sandwich." - Ryan Pfeffer, Virginia Otazo
