Acclaimed Birmingham Chef Firms Up Plans for ‘Last’ New Orleans Restaurant | Eater New Orleans

"Known for helping raise Birmingham’s culinary profile over two decades, Cafe Dupont was closed last year when its chef and owner, Chris Dupont, relocated his family to New Orleans to open what he said would be his “last” restaurant in the former Magazine Street location of Cavan." - Clair Lorell

Celebrated Birmingham Chef Leaves Cafe Dupont to Open a New Restaurant in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"Celebrated as Birmingham’s standard-bearer for downtown fine dining, Cafe Dupont first opened just outside Birmingham in 1994 and rose to broader acclaim after Dupont relocated it downtown in 2003; the chef helped raise the city’s culinary profile when he opened that downtown dining destination about 20 years ago. Dupont was an early leader in Birmingham’s embrace of the farm-to-table, slow-food movement in the 1990s and the restaurant became known for locally sourced, seasonal Southern plates with an emphasis on refined vegetable preparations. Dupont has sold the restaurant, and longtime sous chef Chris Evans is taking over as owner and operator." - Clair Lorell

Service was impeccable! The flavors of the food from beginning to end were immaculate! One of the best dining experiences I have had. Bishop was our server and he was awesome! The only reason I gave 4 stars was because the Margarita Sunrise that I ordered was not very good. But none of the food missed! We had the oyster and okra for an appetizer. The red snapper and scallops and the Duck breast were entrees.

Google
Warm hospitality, delicious food, excellent all around. Food is upscale but not pretentious , well seasoned, clear southern influences. Wish I’d photographed the peach cobbler but it was probably gone too fast!

Google
This was such a romantic place for our date night. The food was flavoful and we loved the wine pairings offered for each course. I recommend the sweet potatoe cornbread & pork belly, also the fried oysters for starters...(Not pictured because we at it quickly)...Our waiter was very knowledgeable about his wine & gave great suggestions on the courses.

Google
We came for our anniversary and Brandon and the others were so nice, knowledgeable and the food? Amazing doesn't even describe it. Simply music in your mouth. We can't wait to go back!

My fiancé and I had a wonderfully delicious dinner at Cafe DuPont! We were able to sit at table 17 right in front of their gorgeous window, giving a picturesque view of downtown Birmingham. We had a front-row seat to the setting sun as we enjoyed our dinners, plus the wonderful jazz music and candlelight made it feel as if we were in a movie. The care and professionalism the servers and chefs provided were top notch 👌. We ordered the cheese plate and pork belly appetizers, and the pork was fork tender and full of flavor. Each of the cheeses paired perfectly with the crostini and pesto they provided. The fresh bread was fluffy and had the perfect texture. We then had the smoked prime ribeye, which was amazingly delicious, and the Joyce farms fried chicken, which was juicy and tender and scrumptious. The portions were perfect and the sides combined to make perfect dishes. The sunrise margarita and wine pairings were great! We topped the meal off with the better than anything beignets and a surprisingly fantastic sweet potato creme brulee. The beignets were soft and fluffy, and the sweet potato didn't overwhelm the creme brulee, acting as a great fall dessert.

Google
The service was truly exceptional! The palate cleansers they serve between courses really elevate the experience. Out of the comparable restaurants in the area, cafe Dupont has by far been the best! The pork belly was phenomenal and so was the peach cobbler! The honey ice cream that came with the cobbler was absolutely incredible, I’ve never had anything like it! I will absolutely be back!

Google
Organized a corporate dinner while visiting Birmingham with 30 clients and the place was cozy, elegant and perfect for our group but the highlight was the food and service. Alex was great and everything went smoothly. Will definitely recommend and come back! Will update when professional photos of our time and food are available.

Google
Cafe DuPont in downtown Birmingham is the kind of place that makes you feel like you should’ve worn your fancy shoes—but you’re glad you didn’t, because the food is the real star here. The moment you step in, you’re greeted with white tablecloths, soft lighting, and that unmistakable “I’m about to eat something amazing” vibe. The fried oysters alone deserve their own holiday. They’re crispy, perfectly seasoned, and somehow taste like the ocean decided to show off.

Yelp
Sometimes it hard to describe or rate a restaurant as good as this one. It's difficult to put into words what an excellent experience we had dining here. From the moment we arrived until we left, we were treated extremely special. Our servers were the most well trained, friendly, respectful, and knowledgeable we have ever had. The atmosphere is very elegant. Very well designed with ample room between tables, perfect lighting, and great background music. We enjoyed the perfect Martini with our Roasted Beet Salad and Fried Oysters for our appetizers. For dinner we both enjoyed the Smoked Duck Breast. Everything was out-of-this-world delicious! Do yourself a favor and make a reservation and enjoy.

R B S.

Yelp
The ambiance was certainly upscale, and the server was exceptional. All the food we ordered was very tasty, especially the short ribs. The scallops almost melted in your mouth and the fried chicken was exceptional. The only downside is that we waited quite some time for coffee after the meal so our desserts came out first and even then the coffee must've been allowed to brew for a bit too long because it was a bitter. All things said it was a nice outing for a special day.

Yelp
Birthday dinner. Nice ambiance. Food excellent- scallops were cooked to perfection, snapper was okay. Loved the lemon crème brûlée. Service was the best I've had in a while- Cayla was very pleasant and knowledgeable of menu. Valet or street parking

Yelp
What can I say, this restaurant is a staple in Birmingham for a reason! I cannot overstate the beauty of the facility, the niceness of the staff, and the elegance of the presentation! The details, such as custom plates and bowls, really add to the charm of this early 20th-century gem. My wife had the steak and the snapper and my only word is amazing! I would say that this is an excellent date night spot as the lights are low, the drinks are great, and the food is out of this world!

Yelp
Celebrated a dear friend's birthday. Cuisine was fabulous!! Service is always first class. With that said, we had a new server who was still training. He was not up to the high standard we are use to at Cafe Dupont but the evening was amazing. Ambiance is always a favorite! The lovely, simple but elegant French decor with lovely wall sconces and warm lighting truly welcomes diners.

Yelp
Food: the goat cheese butter with the bread was very delicious. Every course was very good and they even served bite sized food in between courses. Cocktails were very good as well. The service was 10/10 and they were very thorough with the menu. The ambiance was very romantic and quiet it was very enjoyable.

Yelp
We had a fantastic visit to Cafe DuPont. Our server Summer, was amazing and explained everything from the meal timing to entrees wonderfully. The overall atmosphere was very cozy. I do recommend reservations, we had a reservation for 2 and the restaurant was completely full. Parking is somewhat limited, it is street only but they do offer valet.

Yelp
The charcuterie appetizer was very interesting, but some of the items on there were bizarrely tiny. I was really looking forward to tasting the foie gras, but the portion was literally a teaspoonful. Really, why bother? Yes, the charcuterie items were tasty, but the portions of some of the items were insulting. What was funny was, when the waiter was taking our order, he began with, "For a table of this caliber and class, I suggest the charcuterie..." which he pitched the exact same way to every table. This was almost like a bad prank. For the main course, my husband ordered the lamb chops with a leek bread pudding. Honestly, it was one of the best things either of us had ever eaten. Delightful. Unfortunately, I ordered the snapper, which was incredibly bland and served on a bed of cold farro salad. Even though the portion of snapper was very small, I didn't finish it because it was so bland. Don't get me started on the salad. That really should not have been a $48 entree. I would have sent it back if our waiter had stopped by again before it was time for the check. When I conveyed my disappointment over the fish, he said, "You should have let me know!" And that was it. Yes, I would have let him know and sent it back and ordered something else if we had seen him again! So, we spent over $200 and left hungry. That's not a high-caliber experience in my opinion. And, honestly, we will not return.

Yelp
It's lovely... expensive, amazing food, good wine, nice ambience. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. This is what I'd consider a (very) special occasion place. I had the scallops. They were perfect.

Scott P.

Yelp
We arrived for our 6:00 pm reservation before 6:00 pm and didn't get out of the restaurant until after 9:00 pm. The food was good but the service was incredibly slow. The slow service made it impossible to enjoy our meal. Will never go back to this restaurant.

Genesis P.

Yelp
What a great date night. Everything was delicious and service was impeccable. The muscadine sorbet was divine!

Yelp
First rate restaurant.. 5 star food, service and cocktails. Ambiance was fabulous. Perfect place.

Yelp
Cafe DuPont was a magical dining experience. From the amuse bouche that kicked off the meal to the amazing starters and entrees, each course was better than the last. I had the Wester Ross Salmon Gravlax and the Cast Iron Seared Large Sea Scallops. Simply wonderful, all the way around. Our waiter was on point and made sure we had anything we needed without being intrusive. The decor is elegant and understated which lets the beautiful food be the star.

Carter M.

Yelp
I've never even written a yelp review before but I had to for this place. We had bishop as our server and he was phenomenal. The food was incredible and they gave us palate cleansers in between each course. I loved the jazzy atmosphere and overall vibe of the restaurant. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Food: 5/5 The food was pretty good! I was left with my belly full and satisfied. The food coma hit hard afterwards. We got the fried okra & oysters (crunchy and delicious), charcuterie board (a lovely variety that complemented each other well), and ahi tuna (a nice freshness) for appetizers. For our entrees, we all got the fried chicken and I would highly recommend it! Crispy breading with moist chicken sat on top of grilled asparagus and truffle mashed potatoes :o They provide small samples/palate cleansers in between your appetizers and entrees. I thought that was really cool! Service: 5/5 Our server was great! She was attentive and made great conversation with us about the restaurant + ourselves. Ambiance: 4.5/5 The atmosphere was pretty with dim lights and candles at each table to illuminate the place.

Yelp
Great dinner at Cafe DuPont last weekend. Started with the cheese charcuterie board, nice! My wife had the snapper and I agree with her outstanding. She let me have a bite! I had the scallops and they were cooked to perfection. Service was as expected, very knowledgeable and very attentive, always seemed to appear out of nowhere. The only thing I would like to see improved is the on line reservation system. We could not get a reservation after 5:45 there were numerous tables open until after 7. We were looking for later reservations. Overall great experience.

Andrea B.

Yelp
First, I would like to say that my husband and I have come to this restaurant for several years. Honestly, we've always had great meals and service. Unfortunately, our service this time was not good. I think our server Bishop had too many tables. He had a large party and several other tables other than us. I think we had to wait for drinks for at least 20 minutes after we ordered, because he was too busy running around the restaurant. I honestly thought he had forgotten about them at one point. I'm not sure what was going on, but the level of service and I will say food was not the same. I only say food, because my pork chop was like rubber. Again, nothing tonight was like a normal meal here. It was very disappointing, because we always come here for special occasions. I'm hoping things were just off tonight.

Yelp
The atmosphere is classy and sophisticated. The bartender was incredibly friendly and welcoming. My husband and I both ordered the lemon and chicken and OMG it was beyond delicious.

Yelp
Great place for a special date. High end setup with great food and the service is really, really good.

Jason W.

Yelp
Staff was amazing but food was less than to be desired. Ordered chicken and it was heavy heavy breaded and quite greasy. Couldn't even eat it. Meal was so bad I asked what other places were open cause I was really hungry. Server never asked about making it right or sent over a mgr and $40 for a greasy heavily breaded piece of fried chicken is ABSURD. Wanted bread pudding but they didn't have it so settled for beignets and they were awful. The middle was gooy and they didn't taste done. Really disappointed cause this is supposed to be fine dining. Will def be posting on multiple sites so people know not to spend money here. Not at all like the place Chris DuPont opened!

Yelp
My husband and I celebrated our one year anniversary at Cafe DuPont but will never return. Waitress Adrian was lovely and the food was great, but our evening was ruined by the lack of management and faulty Valet. We live in Vestavia (about 30 minutes away from the restaurant) and did Valet since street parking is limited and a hassle. Unfortunately, after we made it home after dinner the car lights turned on when parking and we realized that the Valet had left two different sets of keys in our car that belonged to other customers. As good samaritans, we called and spoke with Abby who was the manager on duty at the time. She wanted us to return the keys to the restaurant (we were already on the way) but both thought it was odd that she never apologized or expressed sympathy that it would add an hour long commute to our evening. When we arrived to the restaurant to return the keys we were ignored by the Valet and had to ask for Abby at the hostess stand. She wanted us to hand over the keys without any sort of apology and walked away after I asked if the customers were ever made aware their keys were missing. After she walked away, I asked the crowd of customers leaving if they drove a Honda or a Ram vehicle by chance and a crowd of six spoke up saying they drove a Honda. I feel very grateful that we noticed the Valets mistake given that one of the couples in the group were celebrating their 61st anniversary and I couldn't imagine them being left without a way home due to the Valet worker and restaurants gross negligence. Unfortunately, the Valet Mark then wanted to come inside the restaurant and raise his voice at me saying that now these people didn't know where their car was parked. I responded saying that wasn't my job and he's lucky we were able to fix his mistake for the two groups of customers. My husband and I were never thanked for spending our anniversary returning strangers car keys and we were treated with hostility by the manager Abby and Valet Mark but I know that the owners of the two vehicles whose keys were lost were very happy that we went out of our way to fix Cafe DuPonts errors. We will not be returning nor will I recommend this to family or friends given how hostile they handled their negligence. We all make mistakes, but I suggest that everyone take their business to any of the other fine dining establishments that have proper management in place when these mistakes do arise.

Yelp
Excellent service. The classics like the Rib Eye are delicious. The staff made the ambiance great and they were very attentive. The samples of wine to the entree were the touches that made it perfect.

Yelp
This place is so great. We have been eating here for YEARS....more years than I can remember....and it has always been great. I never thought to write a review before this though, I guess because my expectation for a high-end restaurant like this is it's suppose to be great. Anyway, so let it be known their food and service are both top-notch dining in, but I am going to focus on their take-out service today as that's what prompted me to write this review. I called to place a take-out order and nobody answered the phone. No big deal, I was just going to call back in a few....but someone actually called me back right away even though I didn't leave a message! She took my order, repeated it back to me to confirm accuracy, and told me it would be ready in 15 minutes. That's fast, especially consider it was smack in the middle of dinner time! Got there in 10 minutes, paid, and my food was ready when they said....hot and fresh! Took the food and opened them up for our car date (lots of those these days for us due to the pandemic). Y'all....they included white cloth napkins in our to go bag! Even to go orders are fancy. We got the farm-to-table vegetable plate and the fried chicken. Everything was hit, fresh, and tasty. Love the butter that comes with their complimentary bread. Soooooooo good! Amazing food, amazing service, amazing to-go orders. Can't wait to go again!

Yelp
Cafe DuPont is amazing. Excellent service, food and overall dining experience is fantastic. The menu offers something for everyone! They accommodated our last minute, drop in and served an amazing meal, cocktails and dessert.

Rhonda J.

Yelp
I hated my food. The service was crap. I sat for 5-10 mins before I even had my waitress come over. Her attitude was terrible. I didn't feel welcome at all. The food was such small portions I couldn't believe it was 50 bucks for 3 scallops. Drink was ok. But it didn't make up for the fact there was literally nothing special about this place at all. I should of had the best meal I ever had and it was one of the worst.
google avatar

Andrea H.

Yelp
We truly enjoyed our entire experience at Cafe DuPont. The waiter was exceptionally attentive. He was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and we filled his lead from appetizer to desert. Everything was absolutely wonderful including the wine and drinks. We will certainly return next time we are in Birmingham. Superb.

Ashlynn W.

Yelp
PHENOMENAL! Our server, Bishop was a hoot. He kept us entertained and fabulously explained all of the dishes and paired wine with our apps and entrees. From the wine to the cheese board and our dinner, everything was absolutely perfect! The restaurant itself is gorgeous and filled with history. Would highly recommend
google avatar

Yelp
What are phenomenal experience! Between the valet, parking, the coat check immediately when you walk in, and the kind servers, this place was great. The servers were all wearing professional clothing with white aprons, were so attentive and respectful- they made the dinner truly an "experience." I got the fish and my partner got the veal & we were both extremely happy with our choices. The veal is probably one of the best I've ever tasted, with so much flavor. It was tender, well marinated, and served with flavorful veggies on a warm plates. The fish was so chewy and full of flavor- nothing like I had ever had before. The bread they served at the beginning was warm and tasty, and we got "amuse bouche" before our entrees. Truly would recommend this place!

Tarrika E.

Yelp
Great service. Delicious food. Scallops were delicious. Tasted my friends trout and it was above average a wee bit more cooked than my preference but still delicious. Overall good experience. It was a girls night but the vibe and ambiance is also very date nightish.

Rush J.

Yelp
Outstanding from the minute we walked in until the minute we walked out. Service was top tier, food was amazing.

Judy G.

Yelp
Food ok. Alcohol very expensive. Went with a group of 12, waited for over 2 hours to get our food. When we tried to get our checks we were told no separate checks. The waiter actually told us it was on their website. Seriously, I never knew that I am required to look at restaurants websites before I come to the restaurant. If I do it is only for the menu. Person sitting next to me had ceiling airconditioning vent drip on her all night. She complained several times, they finally moved the table about a foot. This did not work and they failed to fix the problem. Waiter very poor, he acted like we were just an imposition for him. But you have to remember he had his 20% automatically built in tip. Will not go back.
google avatar

Mara S.

Yelp
Amazing food, amazing service thanks to Caleb (also a sommelier) and Bishop (awesome WA), very attentive and customized experience, 100% recommend. Will be coming back!!!

Yelp
Exceptional restaurant and service. We had the duck, scallops and cocktails. All were exceptional. The service was also impeccable. We ordered one meal for takeout and we had a cloth napkin and other touches. You pay for the service and quality but the ambience means you don't have to about to have a conversation, the service is paced not rushed. Very difficult to find places like this but well worth the trip.

Yelp
What a pleasure to have had finally dined here. Had to make a reservation of course... but glad that we did. 10000% worth it. Couldn't expect better from here. From the service to the food and cocktails. All outstanding. What an experience. On the pricier end of fine dining in Bham, but worth the money. I enjoyed a couple of their manhattans and old fashioned, while my gf thoroughly enjoyed the bleu cheese stuffed olives martini. We then shared the cheese and charcuterie board among the 4 of us. I do not remember all the types of cheeses and meats on the boards, but Id just want to say.... muah, bona petit. Outstanding. just delicious. The charred pork belly :P (drooling right now). As for the main dish, I went with the duck breast and quail. This is THE best cooked duck breast that I have ever had in my life yet. The quail also was just delightful. Perfectly, seasoned and cooked. Not too dry or underdone. Perfectly crisp on the outside and moist and savory on the inside. Just simply beautiful. Perfect on the palate. My Gf has the farmed chicken, I believe, also just so well made. lightly fried crust, moist and juicy center. Everything was just amazing. We then finished off with a little assorted dessert platter. And of course an espresso martini. Overall, just an outstanding restaurant and dining experience. Thanks to the wonderful staff and chef for a great time. Our bellies, heart, and livers were content after the meal and cocktails. :)

Yelp
We had a fantastic dinner! Our server was attentive, the food was delicious and the ambiance was superb! Love this place!

Yelp
Let's start by saying... Bravo, for an incredible experience. Hands down, this is undeniably one of the best restaurants in Birmingham. Our service was exceptional, and each course was memorable! The Duck Dish was by far one of the best meals. The hint of smokiness was incredible. The fact that an establishment as upscale as Cafe Dupont does not take itself too seriously by focusing on the appearance of guests shows me that the management team understands that guests who are visiting the restaurant are culturally prepared to enjoy the ambiance.

Yelp
Amazing space with great service and delicious food. We spent the evening here after a packed day of tours and experiences and were very happy with everything

Yelp
Been wanting to try this establishment for some time now and finally got to !! WORTH the wait. AWESOME FOOD AWESOME SERVICE. Isaiah our waiter and Carmen our hostess WAS OUTSTANDING !! If there was a 7th star I'd give it !! Try the steak !! The Pork chops !! The peach cobbler was to die for !!

Joni W.

Yelp
It was incredible! We had all of our adult children in town so a table of eight! We had the best meal we have ever.had in Birmingham. We haven't eaten there in several years and it always been good. But, this was 'off the charts good'. The scallops were perfect as was the snapper, pork chop and steak. We started with charcuterie board and pork bellies ... so delicious. The wait staff was so professional and efficient. This a now our favorite restaurant...
google avatar

Yelp
Wonderful atmosphere with a menu that is exquisite! The service was outstanding! Great selection of wines and spirits. Fine dining at its best. Best restaurant I've been to in years. Great job to the owner and chef!!

Yelp
Oh my...delicious is an understatement, only to be surpassed by the service provided by our entertaining, knowledgeable and good-humored waiter Caleb, who recently passed his sommelier exam. As this was our anniversary, and it was noted on the reservations, we quickly received a champagne greeting as we were seated. I am not a drinker, anymore, so my spouse received a double dose and thoroughly enjoyed it! Fried oysters with okra, red snapper, sea scallops, beignets and strawberry creme brûlée were our selections, however, we were provided tiny bites between course which were amazing. If only there was an option to order a tray of some of those tasty treats. Cafe Dupont is white tablecloth and uber fancy, which is reflected in setting, service, menu and also price, so be prepared to open the wallet.
google avatar

Laura M.

Yelp
Cafe Dupont is always a treat! Beautiful restaurant, consistently delicious and great service. I love the little extras they give you sometimes like a palate cleansing sorbet and truffle after dinner. I also like that the waiter will have your car pulled around and ready for you when you walk out. Love the food. Service and ambiance!!
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic meal! Got scallops and they were perfectly tender. This was a true culinary experience. They brought out small appetizers before and between courses. Amazing. Would recommend!

Yelp
I went last night and everything was perfect. Our server, Preston was charismatic, he offered great suggestions, and made sure to check in on us often. We ordered the baked Brie for a starter and got a Cafe DuPont rendition of a hotty toddy. The baked Brie was the size of a crab cake and pretty tasty. We ordered the seared crab cakes and the steak- ah maz ing. The palate cleansing sorbet was perfect in taste and texture. We ordered the orange trifle and the lemon creme brûlée- loved it. The French 75 was tasty and fresh. If you haven't been- you should go. It's pricey but perfect. I'll be back soon.

Yelp
What a charming restaurant. We were celebrating our 25th anniversary and wanted good food, good service and a pleasant atmosphere. Upon entering, a musician was playing in the bar to set the mood. We were warmly greeted and promptly seated. I started with the butter crunch and beet salad and the hubs enjoyed the Steen's cane syrup glazed pork belly. Then my smoke duck breast and duck leg confit and the hubs grilled smoked ribeye arrived...WOW! I literally cleaned my plate which surprised the hubs since I rarely do so. Cappuccinos were ordered to complete our meal when the dessert menus arrived. Who can turn down white chocolate and blueberry bread pudding? Not me; it was surprisingly light. The hubs enjoyed the sticky toffee pudding. The amuse bouche and pallet cleanser were delicious also. Service was impeccable. It's a big thing to have my beverages refilled and they did so without prompts. The hubs was undecided on his entree so our cheerful server suggested scallops to enjoy with his ribeye. Plates were promptly cleared but never rushed. As the evening progressed, the restaurant became louder but wasn't overpowering to converse. There wasn't one thing we would've changed about our evening.

Yelp
Came here for dinner to celebrate my husband graduating with his Masters. Made reservations a few months in advance. Hostess was incredibly kind and inviting when we walked in, and he even sat us down a little earlier than our reservation time. Ambiance was peaceful with dim limiting. We were sitting next to a louder group and we were asked twice by staff members if we wanted to move which made us feel good that they thought of us. Our waiter was very kind and attentive. I ordered the vegetable plate and my husband ordered the fried chicken. Both were so good and fresh. As a vegetable lover, it's so rare to see a vegetable plate at a higher end restaurant and I was so happy to order it! The beignets were truthfully the best thing. The best beignets I've ever had (and I've had a lot!) everything was so good. At the end the waiter brought out complementary chocolate. We will definitely be back!

Jennifer B.

Yelp
We made the fortuitous choice to celebrate our 32nd wedding anniversary at Cafe DuPont. What a glorious experience! We were treated like royalty from the moment we walked through the door. A glass of complimentary champagne was the perfect start to a wonderful dining experience. After conferring with our server, Caleb, we opted for the five course dinner which allowed us to sample quite a few things on the menu. The small plates were perfect for sharing, and we feasted like it was our last meal...and what a last meal!! My favorites were the fried okra, the fried green tomato, the cheese board ,the charcuterie board...ok, actually, everything we ate was amazing!! I highly recommend Cafe DuPont for a fine dining experience like no other in Birmingham.

Yelp
Amazing food and phenomenal service! We were there to celebrate our daughter's college graduation and they made the evening feel very special.

Yelp
Boy oh boy.. where do I start? I give this restaurant 5 stars all around. We made reservations for a thursday night for my mother's birthday. The restaurant was pretty empty and I cannot understand why. Parking was a little challenging as it is located downtown and there was only street parking. Although they do have valet service). When we arrived they immediately wished my mother a happy birthday and this was an indication of the great service that followed all night. Be ready to ball out for sure.. it is NOT cheap, but it is worth it for special occasion. Now on to the food.. we ordered: Fried oysters and okra (very good. The sauce is a nice touch) Seared scallops (possibly best I have ever had and their staple dish) Beef tenderloin (very good. The potatoe gratin is absolutely delicious) Buttermilk fried chicken (honestly, not my favorite. It was a little too buttery, but I let it slide because everything else was delicious) Grilled red snapper (delicious, unique flavor. Good quality fish) Apple tatin dessert (I am salivating thinking about it) Flowerless chocolate cake (also very good. Thick texture. Reminds me of jamaican fruitcake except it is chocolaty) Needless to say I recommend.
