"Celebrated as Birmingham’s standard-bearer for downtown fine dining, Cafe Dupont first opened just outside Birmingham in 1994 and rose to broader acclaim after Dupont relocated it downtown in 2003; the chef helped raise the city’s culinary profile when he opened that downtown dining destination about 20 years ago. Dupont was an early leader in Birmingham’s embrace of the farm-to-table, slow-food movement in the 1990s and the restaurant became known for locally sourced, seasonal Southern plates with an emphasis on refined vegetable preparations. Dupont has sold the restaurant, and longtime sous chef Chris Evans is taking over as owner and operator." - Clair Lorell
