"Owner Ziad Maalouf brought this Middle Eastern cafe to D.C. from Baltimore. Zippy dishes full of lemon and sumac include fattoush salad and Israeli couscous grain bowls full of chopped salad, hummus, and falafel or shawarma. For a heartier meal, go with panini filled with Moroccan chicken or short rib and Swiss, then throw in an order of za’atar and black pepper fries. There’s patio seating, or customers can place takeout and delivery orders here. — G.H." - Missy Frederick, Tierney Plumb

Cafe Fili is a decent option fairly close to Union Station. It has a light, vibrant interior with high ceilings. The falafel bowl ($16 plus tax) was colorful and visually appetizing. The components were mostly good except for the couscous which was bit too chewy. The za’atar fries ($8) could be crisper and so was a bit disappointing.

Food was a little pricey. Gyro sauce left a odd after taste. the fries were good. Service was great! Very friendly and always making sure we were taken care of.

We really enjoyed our brunch here. The bloody mary and latte were exceptional. I had the poached salmon omelette which was very good (but had a LOT of salmon in it - almost too much?). My husband has the Greek scramble and enjoyed it. The french fries were delicious. The serving portions were pretty big. The wait staff was super friendly and attentive. Overall a very cute place.

I was looking for a place to eat before leaving D.C. I’m usually cautious of these trendy places but the food was actually very impressive. My grilled cheese and rib sandwich was warm and well prepared. My tomato basil soup was very unique, but very enjoyable. Same case with the fries, which I noticed were cut on-site. My grandfather said he was also very impressed with his meal.

It’s always to come to Cafe Fili. Food is always good and fresh. The drinks are so amazing with that metal straw. Overall the service is so great they made sure you comfortable. I would recommend to absolutely everyone.

Good, not great lunch for me. I ordered the short rib grilled cheese, and the flavor combination of the short rib, peppers and cheese wasn’t quite to my liking. The fries were really tasty and well seasoned. I will definitely be back to try the falafel bowls to make a final determination.

2023 review - the food is excellent. The Hummus Trio is fantastic with a mix crisp and soft pita. I also love their Lamb Kaftka. One item to note is they have become more popular and you may need reservations for lunch. I had to sit at the bar with a friend for this lunch. I also noted may need to come buy and try out their Bourbon and scotch bar one evening as this is new to me. 2020 Review - The food is very good and the service is very good but there are very few tables and it is very loud.

The food was fantastic! I got the falafel bowl and it was so flavorful and everything I wanted. The staff was very kind and let me sit outside even though it was drizzling because I wanted to people-watch (thank you!). Can’t say enough good things about this restaurant. Shout out to Carson because he was great!
