Cafe Hagen Review - South Lake Union - Seattle - The Infatuation

"This South Lake Union cafe is all about the concept of hygge, so choose Cafe Hagen if you still want to be cozy in the middle of tech territory. Come here for the astroturf patio, lavender oat milk lattes, and stress-free atmosphere made even better by the abundance of plants that you don’t even need to water." - Aimee Rizzo

Drip Tea Opens on Capitol Hill with Bearyaki and Boba Tea - Eater Seattle

"The cozy new coffee shop Cafe Hagen, specializing in Scandinavian brews and light snacks, such as salmon toasts and pastries, opened recently in SLU. It wants to bring the Danish concept of hygge to the Seattle area — while the word doesn’t have a direct English translation, it refers to the art of finding comfort. That will come in the form of cups of lattes and espressos for now, as well as brunch, beer, and wine soon. Status: Certified open." - Gabe Guarente

Google
Great spot for a quick coffee break. Stopped by Cafe Hagen for a coffee and a small snack, and it didn’t disappoint. The coffee was really good, the pastries were fresh, and the place has a cozy, relaxed vibe. Service was friendly and quick, which is perfect when you’re just popping in. Definitely a nice go-to spot for a short break.

Iced salted caramel was sweet and strong, really good. There is no online ordering and the space is kind of cramped so sucks when it's busy. Employees are nice! Pastries are ~$7 each. Sticky buns were dry and not worth the money. Danish barely had any of the cheese part, but overall good. The churro cruffin was delicious.

Google
I came here In the morning and was hoping to try their brunch items, But I think the Dexter location doesn’t offer that, it feels more like a grab and go with pastry options spot. I got the strawberry coconut cloud, and I liked it a lot - think of it as Starbucks pink drink with a splash of coffee flavor to it. As for the pastries, my favorite one is definitely the Cruffin croissant Because of how creamy the center vanilla filling is.

Google
Honestly, the best coffee in SLU (so far). I ordered salted caramel latte with request to not make it too sweet. And they nailed it. I could taste the notes of their Ethopian espresso. They make every syrup inhouse. The atmosphere is inviting but always crowded - I usually order to go.

Google
Good coffee and espresso-based drinks. Quick and efficient service! Their blueberry danish is excellent -- get one of those. I love their stylish interior design, cozy and elegant. The only bad thing is they don't have a restroom.

Google
What an adorable little coffee spot! ☕️ The ambience is really fantastic 👌 I love the decor and vibes of this spot. Had a latte and a pastry. So delicious 😋 The staff was really kind and friendly. Can't wait to come back!

Google
The ambience is modern and masculine with elements of warmth in the brown leather seats and many plants on the walls. A chill vibe and they were even playing some of my favorite indie music. The baristas were friendly, professional, and they even delivered my order to my table rather than just calling it out. I tried the breakfast bun with egg, havarti, and arugula. The cheese is a prominent flavor but not overwhelming and bun was light and airy. I love anything with arugula but I would have liked to taste the egg more. I had an 8oz decaf cappuccino with whole milk; the mouth feel was smooth and silky and they did better latte art than I can do. They had a large and unique pastry selection; I tried the kouign amann and though I can’t pronounce it, it was simply scrumptious. Similar to a croissant but with denser, sweeter layers of lighter and more moist pastry with some crispy edges of caramelized sugar. I love to pull things apart with my fingers and this is a perfect pastry for that, though my fingers did end up deliciously sticky. And it was big enough that I saved some for later. I would come back and I’m looking forward to trying more of their pastries.

Google
Usually local coffee shops serve espresso w sparkling water or chocolate. The espresso here is very bare minimum. Much better cafes around here for a good shot of espresso at the price of $5+ with tips. + there’s 1 hr limit on the wifi.

Yelp
What a cute spot! It is my first time here, and it did not disappoint. I got the København latte and it was so delicious. The cardamom and other flavors were so warm. The spinach and feta quiche was also delicious. My only two small gripes is that the entrance isn't very clearly marked and I had also purchased a croissant and didn't have it warmed up immediately. I had asked to have it warmed up after it was bagged and I sat down and they said they could not heat it up after you take it from them in a bag. Just forewarning others!

Yelp
Overall: B // 4 stars Scandanavian style cafe with classic light brunch fare and comfortable seating near the heart of Downtown Seattle. (Raspberry Latte: B) - Cute cup and intriguing fruit flavors. Not sure exactly how well fruits blend with a coffee, but its reminscient of like fruit flavored dark cacao and works reasonably. (Avocado Toast: C) - Beautifully seasoned toast with high dimensionality of flavor from the multitude of spices ans herbs. I did find this toast to lack substance tho as it does not have anything aside from mashed avo and toast. Food: +1 Presentation: E Price: E Atmosphere: +1 Service: E Menu: +1 Overall: 4 stars Insta/Yelp/Beli/TikTok: @amei_eats

Yelp
Love everything about this cafe. The ambience, the lattes, the pastry, and the nice baristas! There's WiFi and lots of cozy seating. Good place to come read a book, do a little work. They play soft indie type music and if there are people socializing, you can't escape the noise. Be forewarned!

Yelp
The food was really underwhelming for the price and honestly left me disappointed. Everything tasted pretty bland and lacked any real character, which made it feel not worth the cost. The interior is quite small, but I can see how it might be a cozy spot to sit and work for a while. Service was nothing special, just average overall.
google avatar

Julie K.

Yelp
Great coffee, very friendly service, just wish they had online ordering options. Pastries are delicious! It's not that big inside so can't fit a lot of people if you're looking to sit and chill for a bit

Yelp
I work close by and had never tried Café Hagen so figured, why not? Around 10 am on a Friday it was a bit crowded, and the ordering area is a bit crammed, but everything here looked delicious. I opted for a small matcha and a churro cruffin. While waiting for my drink I took the cruffin and sat in the back to get out of the way of the other people, and my drink was done quite quickly! Also the overall space is very nice, seems like a great place to work or just chat. I'll definitely be back to try more of their things!

Yelp
I love the cozy oasis vibe of these cafes. It's the perfect escape from the wintery gloom outside. This location is probably the coziest that I've been to and you can tell that they have quite a few regulars. The staff seem to know their regular customers well, which I love to see. I got the red beet & avocado toast and the Seattle Fog. Both were incredibly tasty. A bit pricey, but tasty. The toast was relatively substantial. I appreciated that they didn't skimp on the toppings and that everything tasted fresh. And I LOVED the Seattle Fog. It's my new go-to. I can't remember what makes it different from a London Fog but whatever it is - they did their thing!
google avatar

Yelp
Tried calling but they don't have a phone. Also, they are a cashless operation. That being said, they have a great variety of coffees. I ordered a breakfast sandwich with bacon and a Scandinavian coffee. The coffee was a real treat and the sandwich was delish. Bacon was prepared perfectly, not too crisp. Bun is topped with sesame seeds. Price was $22.

Yelp
Omg I love every cafe hagen location! The pastries and cappuccino breves are on point in each location!!! Great minimalist atmosphere, the only negative is the plastic plants- they should use real plants- and avoid pumping the atmosphere with microplastics, and make it a genuinely healthy ambiance because it feels that way otherwise. Love their pear cream brûlée danish and their beet hummus toast and umm their almond croissant. Most importantly their roast for their espresso and their cap breve is on point. They do not ask for size when I order one, which is how you know they know what they are doing. Places that ask me the size of a Cortado, macchiato or cap breve are spots I Irish exit. Lastly service is prompt and cordial. Kinda feels like being in Europe to be honest. I miss this vibe so it's nice to have it in the US for those of us who have lived and loved in other parts of this beautiful world!

Yelp
Best Latte I Have Ever Had. Period. Wow. Popped into this place cause it sounded different. Totally impressed. Great ambiance, friendly staff, cool menu options. It's not huge but has small tables and a large communal table as well - very Nordic / Euro which is exactly the vibe they wanted. My Kopennhagen Latte was delish as mentioned with almond and cardamom notes that were perfection.. Added the Nordic Smoked Cheese toast which was super tasty - be warned, the bread is thick and toasted but the smoky cheese and tomatoes are chilled - but overall a solid and different breakfast choice. Customers were all chill and I really liked it. My only regret is that I didn't get a 20oz Latte but I will be returning...you should too!

Yelp
I found out about this little coffee shop, thanks to Yelp reviews. It has a great rating and lived up to it. Great coffee and a really nice vibe. It might not be a great choice if you are in a hurry; because they take time to make your drink right (not like some mass market places), but it is certainly worth the wait.

Yelp
Cool little stand-alone shack/cafe in front of the buildings in a walkway. Like the other sister locations, pretty neat Danish cafe vibes here and super neat modern touches. Staff are super chill and friendly, especially when I asked consumer-conscious questions on vegan options. I've tried both vegan toast options here and sometimes the toast texture is randomly off occasionally; hopefully they can figure that out soon (once it was too hard to bite yet didn't look burnt; another time it was too chewy/doughy). The house "chai" is pretty delightful and they have a few good coffee seasonals I've tried for my decaf oat latte options. Thumbs up.

Yelp
I'm impressed by this single origin cortado shot pull, AMAZEBALLS. Solid shots, vibes, pastries are LEGIT! Come get suM!

Yelp
I love, love this cafe! Their coffee and meals do not miss. I've come here a few times already and have ordered different things. The first time I came I ordered a croissant breakfast sandwich and an iced caramel macchiato. OMG. I was drinking it so slow because of how delicious it was and wanted to savor it. This time I ordered a lavender latte while working, it was so creamy and delicious and not too overpowering. I stayed just in time for lunch and ordered the ginger chicken salad. The chicken was cooked perfectly! It was such a refreshing salad. I appreciated the help of all the staff, all helping each other out. Cleaning tables, bussing, delivering food and very helpful answering menu questions. Only cons is that it does get a bit loud after lunch the music volume seems to get way high so I would opt out if you're trying to take any meetings here. The lack of outlets for working was also giving me anxiety haha but I got lucky with a nearby outlet and window seat :)

Yelp
The latte itself had a nice flavor and texture and the avocado toast had a nice beet spread. Service was quick but then ignored most of the space to play on their computers. Minus a point and a half, as I am not a huge fan of paying $24 for a latte and a small avocado toast, having the latte poured into a scalding hot glass mug with no handle and the toast only having 1/4 of avocado. The ambiance and space is wonderful and super modern.

Yelp
Such a cute cafe! Definitely on the smaller side, so more of a quick stop or a solo cafe vibe. I love the drinks and food they offer, it feels a little more unique than the typical cafe offerings. I got the København latte, my friend got one iced. We both preferred the hot since you can taste the cardamom more. The two baristas were great in helping us pick and gave us their recommendations. For pastries I got the churro croffin and my friend got the mushroom danish blue cheese. Both were great, their other pastries sounded amazing as well, excited to come back and try their other items!

Yelp
Conveniently located in a small urban mall, this quant business was extremely friendly with a vast assortment of pastries, coffees and warm / cold sandwiches. We tried both Ethiopian pour overs - fantastic! The blueberry danish, almond croissant and croque monseur were excellent as well. Overall this was a hidden gem in an otherwise business and apartment park.
google avatar

Yelp
Coffee was really good. Got the lavender iced latte and ham & swiss cheese croissant. The portion of the croissant was huge. But wished they toasted/warmed it a bit; it would've been so much better! The ambiance is really cute cafe and the neighborhood was quite and nice given it's in downtown Seattle area. The cafe itself is cozy and small so not too large capacity but definitely cute neighborhood coffee shop with modern marbled/wood interior design

Yelp
Atmosphere: really cute café that just opened up down the street so I'm grateful for that. They have many other locations and I'm glad this one is now closer to me. It's quite small but cozy. It's a cute place to grab coffee with a friend. Food: my favorite is still their almond croissants, which I always get. It's filled with almond goodness and has a really great crusty exterior but soft layers inside. I've also gotten a couple of their pastries, such as their pear pastry and the churro croissant mix with a custard filled center. Everything I've gotten here is yummy. Do note that it is quite pricey, For example, a croissant is about seven dollars . Also, they get these baked goods from their other locations, so whatever is here is here and when they are sold out, they do not replace it. If you want almond croissants, you have to make sure you come early because they will definitely sell out.

Yelp
Visited this location a few weeks ago. I've been to the South Lake Union location but this was my first visit to the cafe on Dexter. Such a quaint spot smaller than the South Lake Union location but still has all the charm. I came on a Monday compared to going to a weekends at the SLU location. Steady flow of customers but lot less crowded a place you could study are read at. Menu still has great selections though a little more limited. I had the grilled brie and prosciutto toast generous portion and fresh ingredients. love the combination. The elderberry breeze was refreshing like that it had macadamia milk since I'm lactose intolerant and also don't do too much caffeine. I had a pour over of one of their pre fermentation with fruit blends. I really need to remember to drink pour overs more often and taste the true flavors of the roast. Definitely will be back staff was friendly and helpful. They are also well informed about the coffee they roast.

Matthew M.

Yelp
Great spot for coffee and breakfast. Me and my girlfriend ordered one of their seasonal lattes and it was wonderful.
google avatar

Jasmine B.

Yelp
I came here to get a change of scenery while working. I ordered a delicious chocolate chip cookie that they warmed up for me and my friend ordered the croissant which we both enjoyed. The line was non-existent and they had loads of coffee options for coffee drinkers. We sat and worked for around an hour. There was so much space for us to sit considering it was the afternoon and plenty of seating options such as tables, high tops, sofas, etc. The only thing is the wifi kicked us out after an hour and the music was a touch too loud so I felt like I was yelling when I wanted to speak to my friend. Overall, I would recommend coming here if you need a break from your environment and need heads down time.

Preetika B.

Yelp
This cafe has been my go to for a while. With a rotating menu and some strong staples, I love going here for a quick coffee run. The breakfast items are delicious too. The pricing is a bit steep but the food, coffee and service is great. The matcha does come pre sweetened fyi!
google avatar

Kim G.

Yelp
We visited here two years ago and couldn't wait to visit on this trip. The quality of the food and staff have not diminished. Delicious French pastries with a Dutch touch. One of the reasons we love this coffee shop is that they use real mugs, glasses, and flatware.
google avatar

Ryan T.

Yelp
Presentation of the food and latte flight was aesthetically pleasing! Pretty basic in terms of flavor profile but overall was a tasty and eye catching experience! Would return (:
google avatar

Slater S.

Yelp
Cafe Hagen roasts some of the best--if not the best--coffee in all of Seattle, and their beautiful lattes, made by baristas that compete nationally, are a testament to this. That being said, this location is small and does get very crowded, so come off peak hours. Great spot for small Instagrammable dishes too, if that's your thing.
google avatar

Yelp
Came to Seattle to visit my son. Went to Cafe Heaven every day for the Copenhagen latte. The cardamom puts it over the top delicious. The food was always excellent as well. Had the lox on a roll and it was awesome
google avatar

Ali Reza S.

Yelp
Fantastic coffee, deserts and coffee. Avocado toast was over the top. Lots of colllection on sweets but haven't tested it yet.
google avatar

Breanne T.

Yelp
I love Cafe Hagen and am so glad they are down the street from me. Their lattes are expensive, but so good for a treat. The pastries are delicious too. I don't often stay and eat at the cafe, but it is on the small side and fills up quickly. The ordering/waiting space can also get a little crowded, but again, it's a small space to begin with. The staff are friendly as well.

K C.

Yelp
I had a latte with oat milk and this beautiful Nordic Smoked Cheese Toast. Both were yummy and hit the spot. I ate outside at a bistro table and enjoyed the crisp fall morning.
google avatar

JT T.

Yelp
It's nice to have a coffee shop north of Mercer (other than the drive through Starbucks on Westlake). I really enjoyed the nordic-inspired pastries here. Coffee is pretty normal, not much to say there.
google avatar

Ken K.

Yelp
OMG! The croissant club sandwich was absolutely amazing!! The staff was friendly and helpful in assisting me in what to order.
google avatar

Arpitha Rao A.

Yelp
Love their coffee and food! Everything tastes so fresh - I used to visit the one on Thomas St. always and now I am so glad about this new location ! :) The staff is very friendly as well. Their quiche is great!
google avatar

Yelp
Little pricey but nice little cafe and good food and great coffee. Really nice and professional service.
google avatar

Yelp
Cafe Hagen's newest location opened just over a week ago! The space is smaller and cozier than their other locations, but I believe offers the same menu. There's both table and couch seating, great for either getting some work done or catching up with friends. I got a pear creme pastry, but they also serve coffee and sandwiches. Nice ambiance and service!
google avatar

Britney N.

Yelp
This became our go-to breakfast/coffee spot during our visit to Seattle! Service was efficient- helpful though I wouldn't say friendly necessarily. It had a lovely ambiance, both in the interior & exterior. The interior is a bit squishy, especially during peak hours but they managed to keep things moving as best as possible. We greatly enjoyed this place!

LaTeca G.

Yelp
Ricotta cheese croissant with tomato basil and the Salted Carmel Latte was exceptional

Ananya O.

Yelp
Great staff! Well maintained Hyggeiene. Recommend the croissants! Good cozy vibes. Thanks

Jennifer B.

Yelp
The service and the coffee were great! I asked for my latte to be extra hot. The first time the coffee was luke warm. They were very happy to re-make it, which was so nice. However this time I would describe the coffee as warm even after I mentioned to please not worry about burning my mouth! So if you don't like your latte super hot then this is the place for you! The taste of the latte was great!

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Best latte I've had in my life...seriously get the one with cardamom. Small little spot but can't miss in Seattle.
google avatar

Zian C.

Yelp
cute vibes as always (seating is a little harder to come by indoors) but a lot less busy than the other location in SLU. very much enjoyed my panini and cortado

Brian W.

Yelp
Great coffee and pastries. Service is always quick. Always stop in on my way to the office.

Alexander P.

Yelp
I only ordered an Americano today but I'll be stopping by for lunch in the near future. The croissant sandwiches and pastries look incredible. Great coffee with friendly service.
