Café Hagen in South Lake Union is a beautifully designed and cozy spot that feels like a little urban oasis. With plants hanging from the ceiling, leafy corners, and big windows letting in plenty of light, it’s a great place to relax, work, or catch up with a friend. The ambiance is definitely a highlight — soft, upbeat music plays in the background and adds to the peaceful, welcoming vibe. I visited on a weekday morning, hoping for a quiet breakfast, and while the space didn’t disappoint, the service was slower than expected. It took quite a while for our food to arrive, even though it wasn’t too busy at the time. I ordered the avocado toast and the breakfast board. The food was tasty and well presented, but I was a bit surprised to be charged $5 extra for egg and bacon on the avocado toast — especially since it came with just one slice of bacon. Everything had good flavor and felt fresh, but the portions and pricing didn’t quite match up. Overall, Café Hagen is a lovely place with good food, but given the prices, it’s more of an occasional treat than a regular go-to. Still, it’s worth a visit if you’re looking for a relaxing and aesthetically pleasing café experience.

We ate near the REI location on the patio for brunch around 2-3pm on a holiday weekend with the sun shining. I ordered the Breakfast Bun with Avocado w Salted Carmel Latte iced, my partner ordered Ham & Cheese Croissant. Equally deliciousness. The vibe, aesthetic: happy & hip, though the views in the city are always sketchy depending upon the day. Perfect scene for a date or to work in a laptop (Music inside is a little loud at times.) Continuous line but never waited long. We waited longer in traffic to get to the Mercer exit. :/ It was worth it. Still hungry though! (Def don’t wait to eat for just a bite here.)

Earthy - Great atmosphere - Tasty coffee Earthy, cozy vibe with both indoor and outdoor seating that feels bright and open. Coffee is fast and well-made, and the pastry menu is definitely worth a try, fresh and flavorful. Great spot for a relaxed morning or casual catch-up. #hygge

Google
Good place to get brunch and coffee. I will start of and say this place is pretty expensive, my meal being about $30 however was able to share with another person for a light meal. The coffee was amazing. Good service, lots of seating although still packed. Huge menu. I’d come back.

🥐 Market Croissant Sandwich: I swapped out the mozzarella for brie and it was excellent. 🥂Kir Royale: This was the reason I came here. I don't often see them in menus and this one didn't disappoint. 🍽️ Service: They need more staff during a Saturday brunch rush. The employees were clearly doing the best that they could, but it was clear from the chaotic feeling that more people were needed. Also, it seemed a bit warm inside which I would think would be hard on the employees during a brunch rush as well.

This is a super nice cafe. It’s close to Space Needle with beautiful patio for summer. Portion sizes are just right. Service can be slow because of weekend and holidays. Great food and coffee! Must visit.

Nice and cozy cafe! The coffee was good. The sandwiches looked good but I had already eaten and didn't try it. But I will next time.

Google
Café Hagen offers a charming and inviting ambiance, with lush greenery and beautifully curated decor that creates a cozy, relaxing atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where you’d love to unwind with a good cup of coffee. I ordered a Mokka and a Salted Caramel Latte—both were well made, but I wish they were served extra hot. The coffee had great flavor, though the portion size felt a bit small for the price. One thing that felt a little odd—we visited 30 minutes before closing, and they mentioned they could only serve coffee in to-go cups instead of regular mugs. It wasn’t a huge issue, but it took away from the overall café experience. If you appreciate aesthetic cafes with a great ambiance, this spot is worth checking out!

Yelp
My first visit to Café Hagen was awesome! The ladies were so patient and welcoming! The drink was really good, decorated with a little design; and the food was delicious! You could feel the hygge when you walked in! I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Incredible hygge and ambience located in Queen Anne. Coffee and treats were great! Cozy spot for an early morning.

Yelp
My close friend has been recommending this place to me recently, and I also love it! The cafe is a perfect study and chatting environment. While located in a building, being inside it makes you forget that it's connected to one. I really liked the ambiance here and the area is very clean with a modern and urban design. The space here is also very wide and spacious which I appreciate, alongside their outdoor seating. Their food selections look pretty good! I want to come back here to try more of their pastries and overnight oats. I really enjoyed the Croque Monsieur I ordered, as a big fan of ham and cheese pastries. Their chai also has a kick as you can taste the spices in it, which is unique and also highly appreciated compared to other cafes or places. Overall, I will be coming back here again! :)

Yelp
Line was long when we came in but orders were taken quickly and we were seated within a few minutes. Drinks came out promptly. Atmosphere was clean and communal, one might say even hygge? Seating was snug, but not uncomfortable. Food came out at a reasonable time- I got the smoked cheese toast on thickly sliced bread that was studded with seeds. It came out piled high with fresh herbs, and was honestly probably be best slice of toast I've had in my life. Cheese was light, slightly tangy and earthy, herbs and tomatoes were refreshing. I didn't expect to gush so much about it but here we are. Wait staff were all pleasant and efficient, it was a very nice experience. I will definitely be coming back again.

Yelp
Cafe Hagen is a charming spot in Seattle that offers delicious pastries and solid coffee options. Their ham and cheese croissant was flaky and savory. The spanakopita was also fantastic and had a delicious spinach filling. My friend who has traveled to Denmark gave it the seal of approval. Their vanilla lattes hit the spot and their chai comes from a locally made concentrate that has a great mixture of spices. I do wish that they reheated the pastries when you take them to go, although maybe they do offer the option and I just didn't ask. I also wish they offered a size larger than the 16oz, but that's a personal preference. The cafe's cozy atmosphere adds to its appeal, though it's worth noting that space can become a bit tight during busy morning rushes.
google avatar

Kristine N.

Yelp
Cute and quaint cafe in Seattle, but unbearable wait time to order. We got our drinks and coffee in 5 minutes but it took 35 minutes standing in line. For a place that is so busy especially on a Saturday morning, how can you only have one person taking orders?? It's stressful for the one person taking all those orders and for the people waiting in line.

Yelp
I tried Cafe Hagen for the first time to get the breakfast board that I've heard about. For $15 I got eggs, bacon, avocado, waffle with fruit, cheese, bread and grape food slices. The value was amazing and I would totally come back for it. The staff was kind and patient with my questions. The space is very cute and in a quieter part of town which was nice.

Yelp
Having passed by this cafe many times, I finally went with some friends after a fun run to try it. We almost didn't stay because it was so crowded! It was a Sunday at prime brunch hour to be fair. I didn't realize until getting inside that you order at the counter and seat yourself, it is not a table service restaurant. Luckily we found a table for 4! As for the food, it was delicious! I tried their special pistachio rose coffee, which I highly recommend. For my meal I had the Breakfast skillet and added on some smoked salmon. It comes out in an actual skillet, which I loved. Very filling and cheesy, with lots of veggies cooked in. Also came with some small pieces of bread. All of their pastries looked to die for as well... I'm sure I will be returning here in the not too distant future for some more brunch food. Although it might be a good idea to come on a weekday when it is not so crowded!
google avatar

Yelp
This place was a great choice. I loved my latte flight and wish I would've gotten a full size pistachio o lavender. The salmon toast had grate flavor too. Street parking was a breeze during the week. I'd definitely come back if I'm ever in Seattle again.

Yelp
Loved my breakfast at Cafe Hagen. Quiche and a nice outdoor seating area (though indoors would be equally nice). Ambiance was amazingly Hygge.

Yelp
I live Near Hagen and love having it close-by. Yummy coffee! I appreciate their use of Hygge in their cafe. They do a great job here! Glad to see there are others too.

Yelp
Loved the coffee here. Definitely stop by if you're a fan of lighter roast coffees. I loved the egg skillet and the cheese on top added a lot of flavor. I wasn't as impressed as I covered with the waffle. Though I enjoyed the fruit with the waffle. The waffle texture wasn't as crisp as I would have liked, and was pretty soft. Loved the ambiance as well. It's. A great place to catch up with someone or sit and do work.

Yelp
Beautiful cafe in downtown Seattle with a modern interior perfect for studying or a relaxing breakfast. We went on a weekday, so it wasn't overly crowded. The staff were all very polite and there was plenty of seating, both inside and outside. I got their seasonal berry latte and it was one of the best lattes I've ever had. The notes of elderberry and blueberry came through without the taste of overpowering sweetener. No bitterness in the espresso, simply perfection. The pear crème brûlée pastry was delightful. Crispy, flaky pastry with refreshing pear in the center. Similarly enjoyed the blueberry danish. Sadly the cardamom pastry was a miss; really loved the cardamom flavor, but the pastry itself was extremely dry. I would love to come back and try one of their menu items which all looked incredible!

Yelp
A beautiful cafe in seattle downtown. Must visit place if you are in and around this area. We went there twice and both the times, we had an amazing experience. Although the only issue would be the space. It's a small place and a lot crowded almost every time The food was amazing. If you are a caffeine addict like me, they have coffee flights which are amazing. Tried their multiple breakfast options and all of them are freshly served and delicious. The ambiance is very vibrant with all greenery around with lot of plants. The price point is decent. Must visit place in Seattle downtown.

Yelp
Cafe Hagen's new location perfectly captures the essence of hygge. The cozy atmosphere, warm lighting, and Scandinavian-inspired decor make it a welcoming spot to unwind. Their selection of artisanal coffees and fresh pastries complements the relaxed vibe, offering the perfect space to enjoy a quiet moment or catch up with friends. Whether you're sipping a latte or enjoying a light meal, the cafe's focus on comfort and simplicity makes it a great addition to the neighborhood.

Yelp
What a delightful corner coffee Cafe to stop, have a drink and rest our legs, as we walked to the Capitol Hill shopping area. I tried an iced lavender latte and a slice of the thick, rich, delicious red velvetety cake. We sat outside, as it was a beautiful, blue sky, near sunny day. The servers found us easily with the table numbers, and sitting outside was ideal for "doggy watching" (people too) but it is a very dog friendly patio and area. I will seek this place out on my next visit to Seattle. If you have time, walk the nearby community garden. It's pretty in the Spring time.
google avatar

Abby S.

Yelp
If you are a sweet treat connoisseur, you absolutely must try the Churro Cruffin. This thing is INSANELY good, albeit a little pricey. Can't complain about the coffee. Ambiance is great and the interior is very cute and airy, with lots of plants. Definitely worth a stop if you're close by. The line can get a bit hectic on the weekends mid-late morning, so plan on at least a little bit of a wait if you go then.
google avatar

Yelp
We were hungry while waiting for a nearby museum to open, and this place is one of few cafes that are open on early Sunday mornings in this area. There are lots of tables available to dine-in. You can even see Space Needle out the window. We got the Market Club croissant sandwich with turkey, bacon, avocado, tomato, arugula and dejon mustard. It was a solid sandwich, enough to be shared by two if you are not super hungry, or want to try a pastry also. I had my eyes on the Churro cruffin (so pretty!). I took a bite right away and it was okay since it was cold and wasn't flaky. It was 10X better after I popped it into the toaster oven for 5 minutes the next day (pro tip: all croissant type pastries taste better heated).

Yelp
Visited to work remotely with a good coffee and I had a great first experience here. The cafe was well taken care of, very cute and photo ready, and I liked that the benches had pillows (sometimes remote cafe work is tough on my back, lol!). I also really enjoyed the seasonal latte I got (Scandinavian special). They also had a clean restroom. Would return!

Yelp
I love this place! Very fresh atmosphere with tons of plants, wood and open windows. They also great breakfast options for a cafe. There's a lot of space to work and there's outdoor seating. Definitely recommend as a place to work in the morning.

Yelp
Cafe Hagen is a super cute cafe with pretty good food and a refreshing variety of pastries. We came in for Saturday brunch and it was pretty packed. We managed to get a table in their outdoor seating area after ordering at the counter. For some reason inside was super smoky that day.. I ordered their salmon mousse toast and chai latte and also tried the blueberry danish and their pear crème brûlée. The salmon toast was yummy, super loaded with salmon. The flavors of the pickled veggies and arugula went really well together too. The chai latte was okay, a little too sweet and not enough spice. The blueberry danish and pear crème brûlée were super yummy, but came out super cold. It would've been a billion times better if they just popped it in a toaster oven for a few minutes a shame, but still good. Overall, really cute spot, good for working, lounging, brunch, etc. It is a bit expensive for what it is, but would still recommend trying this place out!

Yelp
Cute cafe perfect for a lazy Sunday! It was very busy on Sunday morning with lines out the door and almost all tables full. It is a casual cafe where you order and pay first, but they will bring your food to your table if you are dining in. We ordered the walnut de leche with oat milk from their seasonal, which was served in a cold glass which was a little strange. I had to use a napkin to pick it up as it was too hot. It was delicious, with perfect nutty and creamy tones. I am excited to try the rest of their seasonal drinks. For brunch, we ordered the proscuitto and Brie toast that came with fig jam and a mountain of arugula on seeded bread and a breakfast bun, which is vegetarian and has Gruyère cheese, egg, and more arugula. I thought the breakfast bun was underwhelming and would probably not order it again. The flavors of the Brie and proscuitto toast complemented each other well. I really want to try the salmon toast next time. If you're feeling more hungry or adventurous, they also serve a classic Scandinavian breakfast that comes with a lot of food, as well as cocktails! There is 1 single stall restroom here, and 1 reserved for employees. Parking can be difficult to find on the street as this is in the center of SLU, but easily walkable from nearby public transportation.

Yelp
I've been wanting to come to café hagen since I moved to Seattle, so I was so excited to have a study date with my friend here! With that said I feel as though it's overhyped and definitely not a place I would go again to study. We did come on a Sunday afternoon, so it was quite busy and I had to wait for a table! Because there were so many people, the cafe was quite loud and not the most ideal environment to get work done. I ended up getting the golden milk latte and blueberry danish ($14 total). I loved my latte, the taste of tumeric is so comforting!! But I thought the danish was just okay, nothing too stand out! As for the interior of the cafe, I think greenery always always livens up a place. Especially in this cafe, with the vines hanging down from the ceiling, it makes for such pretty decor which I really loved. All in all I think I set really high expectations and it just wasn't delivered. It was a loud environment, and my friend and I were so cold because they left a window open. Also we thought the cafe was pretty pricey, my friend ordered an avocado toast and it was quite expensive for what she was given. I may stop by again if I was in the area.

Yelp
Is Cafe Hagen a victim of their own success, or are they popular for no apparent reason? We arrived early afternoon on a Saturday, found parking about a block away on a side street, and lined up behind about 10 people. There's one person working the register taking drink and food orders, and he was also pre-prepping some of the drinks by squirting in syrups or pouring seltzer water for the one barista. So it makes sense why it took so long for the line to move along. The restaurant itself was only being serviced by one guy working the entire floor so there were used numbers all over, unbussed tables, and crumbs all over the tables. The cafe doesn't provide napkins for some reason, so we had to take several of the pre-wrapped silverware sets to wipe our table and seat crumbs. The drinks were stacking up because there was the only the aforementioned one guy working the floor bringing drinks out, so we had to just get up and grab our own drinks as we didn't want them to sit there melting. I had the gingerbeer espresso with lime, and it was refreshing. The churro cruffin we had was super hard and dry and was difficult to chew, even though it was filled with a lot of cream. It's just a chaotic environment that's understaffed and not worth the price or wait. Hopefully they can figure out a smoother operation.
google avatar

Emily T.

Yelp
I've been to Cafe Hagen a handful of times now and it's such a nice ambiance with a nice selection of drinks and eats. Order at the counter and find a nice seating. They have outlets to charge and free Wi-Fi for 3 hours. I got their chai and it was ok. Not too flavorful but my friend liked her latte. Their pastries are delicious and we had the paninis on focaccia bread. The focaccia in our opinion was a little dry and kind of hard. I've had their breakfast sandwiches before and I would recommend those instead. Overall It's a bit pricey for their food, but I guess you also pay for a nice ambiance.
google avatar

Alma B.

Yelp
Beautiful local place. Even has some free parking! Imagine that. But the food!! Whoever thought that salmon mousse would actually be that good! Perfect complement of flavor, texture and even smell. Just simply put delish. Coffee flight is very amusing at least, presentation is so important. But not only does it look good, it also tastes good. The vibe is nice and friendly, great atmosphere for both a group or a date. Would highly recommend!
google avatar

Brooke A.

Yelp
Cafe Hagen has been on my list of brunch places to try for many months now, and it did not disappoint. It's equal parts gorgeous presentation and high-quality food, all in a beautiful environment and great location. I love the model of ordering at the bar and seating yourself. There are a few places in Seattle that take this approach, including Mr. West, and I feel that it makes eating in a group easier and quicker. It does get quite crowded, so I'd recommend coming during off hours or with the expectation of being able to sit up to only three or four people together. We got the breakfast skillet and seasonal jam waffle (we originally were drawn to the brunch board but decided we were really in it for the aesthetic picture). Our meal was beautifully presented and served fresh - the fruit was plump and sweet, and the egg skillet was cheesy and hearty, even without meat. The sprouted bread that came with it was also surprisingly delicious!

Alejandra L.

Yelp
Amazing coffee and cozy vibes! The Banana chocolate bread is my favorite. Very hygge!!!
google avatar

Yelp
My go to place before work. Great drinks and amazing baked goods. Many locations to choose from but I like the one on Dexter and Roy Streets. I love the European vibe.
google avatar

Kris L.

Yelp
Hands down, one of my favorite cafes I visited on my trip to Seattle. I got the breakfast board and kobenhaven latte. The entire menu and pastries all looked so appetizing, so it was difficult to decide what to get! I typically try to avoid dairy and gluten, so I asked to swap out the cheese crispies for fresh fruit and they swapped it out without hesitation. The breakfast board was so fresh, well-rounded, and something that I don't traditionally see on breakfast menus. I loved the variety it offers, and even though it's something you *could* make at home, it's still something I would order here due to the sheer quality, good service, and pleasant ambiance. The latte was amazing as well - nutty, creamy, and not too sweet. I got it with oat milk, so it was pretty rich, but carried amazing flavor and would get it again!
google avatar

Cindy Z.

Yelp
While I love the aesthetics and vibe of the place, the food was just mediocre for me. It's definitely got that hygge vibe that you find in Copenhagen that this spot is based off of. When we came on a Saturday morning, there was a bit of a wait to order. Then you get your number and food is brought out to you. We grabbed a high top table outdoors, which was nice on a sunny day out. I ordered the Salmon Mousse Toast ($15). I didn't really like the house-baked seeded multigrain bread it was on, which tasted quite bland and grainy. Luckily they did top the toast with a lot of the salmon mousse, which helped mask the bread. All of the food came out beautifully plated, but food was just basic and okay.
google avatar

Hoang N.

Yelp
(3.8) This is a great spot to study, inside has lots of seating and has a unique decor. the service was normal. But about the food and drinks, I thought they were ok for the price. I would probably just get the avocado toast if I come back to study again. But definitely go checkout and do work there and check out the interior for yourselves.

Breeanna L.

Yelp
Incredible cafe! All of the food and drinks are spectacular! Such a hygge place! I will definitely be coming back often!

Yelp
My new favorite brunch spot! I visited two days in a row, for the Orange Express Tonic. I ordered the salmon mousse and a sandwich (the one with apple), both of which were very delightful. I will try more dishes in the future. The service was very nice and patient, and the decor of this place is lovely, I saw some people reading there with their food and drinks, making it look very cozy and inviting.

Yelp
All heart eyes from me for this one I was a little ways away at the convention center and wanted to go somewhere a little away for lunch. I saw this place and decided to try and I'm so glad for it!! The interior of the restaurant was so welcoming because of all of the plants. It was busy, but still easily able to grab a seat and even though it looked kind of small from the outside there was ample seating once inside. The line to order stars near the menus they have on stands by a little product shelf. Noting this because I missed it when I first walked in and felt very silly asking people waiting for their coffees if they were ordering. Oops! I got the breakfast skillet with smoked salmon and the københavn latte. The breakfast skillet was the perfect amount of food! Super fresh and filling. I loved the amount of cheese with it too. The smoked salmon was really tasty too and the bread seemed super fresh as well. The latte was probably the best one I had during my entire trip to Seattle. Something about this restaurant really checked all the boxes not only of what kind of food I was looking for that day, but if the aesthetics and overall vibes as well. 5/5 heart eyes for me

Yelp
This spot is really really cute! They have both indoor and outdoor seating, and the vibe is super cozy. I came on a Sunday afternoon, and there were quite a lot of people but luckily we were still able to find a seat. I got an iced pineberry latte which they made super fast, literally right in front of me. It did feel a little odd when the barista spilled some of it and didn't really wipe the cup down or fill the rest of the cup with anything extra, and it felt quite rushed. I also didn't get the friendliest vibe from the cashier. However, the drink itself was delicious. I was a little skeptical of the pineberry flavor with coffee, but it was surprisingly so good. A hint of fruity and sweet with the bitter and strong espresso was a great balance. I really like the strength, taste, and quality of the espresso here! I think this would also be a great study spot, and will have to try their food menu items next time too :)

Yelp
Yuuuum makes me hygge. Had the waffles before such a delight. And also the latte came back for more!

Yelp
Perfect place for quite rejuvenating coffee break. The coffee is strong , robust and wakes you up. The staff is sweet. What else do you need!

Yelp
Great food, friendly service. Large portions. Next time we'll order the breakfast board and salmon mousse to share plus extra pastries.

Yelp
What a cute brunch/coffee spot in SLU! I came here with my boyfriend on a very busy Saturday morning, and the line went out the door. I didn't mind waiting, but it definitely didn't move particularly fast. We ordered the weekend brunch board to share. The mushrooms were so garlicky and well seasoned, but I think my personal favorite was the Danish heart waffle with raspberry jam. It tasted like an Eggo waffle (compliment) and wasn't too sweet. Plus, I'm a sucker for anything heart shaped :) Everything else on the board was good but not particularly stand out, and honestly it was a lot of food for $23, so we thought it was pretty good bang for our buck. As for drinks, my boyfriend got an americano, which he thought was pretty good. I got the mokka flight, which I thought was a fun experience. It's basically a deconstructed coffee, with separate cups for the chocolate, milk, and espresso. Kind of a silly idea, but I thought it was fun! The interior was really well decorated too, with a bunch of plants everywhere. I saw some people studying and doing work, so it seems like a nice ambience. It was really crowded though and kind of loud, so I'm not sure how productive those people actually were LOL. I'd recommend coming here maybe on a weekday when it's less busy, as it definitely took some time to get through the line and order, and it was kind of difficult finding a table too.

Yelp
Food: 2/5 SALMON MOUSSE TOAST ($15) I should've listened to previous reviews, wasn't a fan either of the multigrain bread, it was pretty tough. The topping was pretty good, slightly sweet. Salmon spread, pickled fennel, red onion, and arugula SEASONAL WAFFLE ($10) I got it without the additional fresh berries, the dish is pretty small. The waffle is nothing too special, it come with whipped that's not too sweet. The waffle gets slightly soggy with cream if you leave it out too long. They have lots of pastry options too which looked pretty good. Service: 3/5 Pretty average, wouldn't say the friendliest but they do the job. Self serve water is available. If you're dining in, they give you a number and bring the food to your table. Ambiance: 4/5 The restaurant is pretty cute, went on a Saturday at noon. There was a line forming out the door but still plenty of seating

Yelp
Cute cafe in the Capitol hill area. Unfortunately there aren't really any gluten free options as far as food. I had the lavender latte and it was pretty good. Wifi is available here but it isn't very fast. Definitely a cafe that stays busy!

Yelp
After coming here on a Sunday morning I immediately noticed the very clean atmosphere, despite the shop being very busy with a line out the door. I ordered the prosciutto / brie toast, espresso trio flight, and what I think was called the sunny seattle? Overall the food was pretty good. The prosciutto / brie toast had a good balance, with yummy prosciutto, sweetness from the jam, and creaminess from the brie. The seattle sunny(?) had good flavor almost like a quiche, but would've been better if it had been warmer more thoroughly. The espresso flight was alright. For $12 you get double shots of three different roasts. I can't remember what the roasts were exactly but one of them was way too acidic for me.

Yelp
Super cute place that I just happened to stumble into while walking around the area! It was warm and cozy and I love the large windows that let the sunshine in! Service was great. Staff were very accommodating. I only ordered a coconut latte so can't give reviews on any of their food but the latte and service was good so I'm pretty happy
