The Best Road Trip Restaurant Stops Along California’s North Coast | Eater SF

"An unimposing cafe in a strip mall in downtown Fort Bragg, Café Jaavy is more than the sum of its parts. The specialty here is Mexican breakfasts, including substantial, customizable breakfast burritos, wonderfully smooth refried beans, and fresh fruit juices and smoothies. The chilaquiles are excellent — order them “divorciados,” with both red and green sauce — and are widely considered the best in Mendocino County. There are also “American” options, like berry-banana crepes with cream cheese and French toast with Fort Bragg Bakery’s cinnamon raisin bread. Portions are large, reasonably priced, and served on oilcloth-draped tables in the restaurant’s small dining room. For breakfast with a view, take your food to-go and drive north to MacKerricher State Park." - Freda Moon

I mean are kidding me with these beans??!! Oh man yeah!! Huevos rancheros... tortilla so crispy.... chorizo soooo right. Breakfast burrito. What??!?! So amazing. We even tried the crepe which was outstanding. Plus the coffee was yummy. Come back again? I sure hope so!!!!

Great food! Their salsa roja is so delicious. I always order a side of it to add to my sandwich or burrito; it takes it to a whole new level. Best chilaquieles too. And don't sleep on their smoothies 💯

I really love this honest, yummy, food. I eat breakfast there. Very good value. The smoothies are good. People there are nice and attentive. My coffee cup was filled . Nice little gem.

I was honestly expecting more from this place. The food wasn’t that great, and unfortunately, my kids didn’t enjoy it either—they told me a 3 out of 5 would be fair, and I agree. The utensils we were given were dirty, and I had to ask to have them changed. No one apologized or even acknowledged the issue. While the lady who served us was kind, no one ever came by to ask if everything was okay during our meal. I think a 3 is a fair rating, and I hope they take these details seriously and work on improving them.

I came here to try the Chilaquiles based on everyone’s reviews. What also intrigued me were the beans. Being Mexican with a mom who’s nearly 70 and has been making home made beans since she was 20, I’m really picky with refried beans with taste and consistency. The way they looked in pictures lead me to believe they’d be yummy. They ended up tasting just like my mom’s. Also the prices were very reasonable. My husband got a big burrito.

Fantastic! Authentic Mexican breakfasts great coffee and attentive service. We had 3 different breakfasts and the chilaquiles were the best. My eggs, over medium, were perfectly cooked, the bacon was crisp, the way I like it. The chorizo and eggs were delicious too! Highly recommend, will be back tomorrow morning. Picture of empty plates because it was so good we didn't think to stop eating and take pictures.

Great food, great staff. You know it's a great place when you see the locals dining there too. I had the American breakfast with 2 eggs, ham, hash browns, and an English muffin.
