Yelp
A coffee connoisseur cafe done halfway. Great atmosphere and coffee choices without the high quality food to match. I saw their high rating on Yelp and their menu which had pour-over coffee and interesting breakfast items. I saw no notice online that breakfast items are served only from 8 am to 11 am. You'll see that on their overhead menu when you get there. My wife and I looked at their other food choices. They were typical, nothing looked interesting. They have coffee beans from Coava Coffee Roasters and Pike Roastery. Coava Coffee Roasters is located in Portland, OR and Pike Roastery is located in Rockville, MD. We tried 2 types of coffee and 2 sandwiches.
1) Turkey Provolone Panini
It was a heated sandwich with Ciabatta bread, turkey, provolone, fried onion, and mayonnaise. The bread was crisp on the exterior while soft and chewy on the inside. There was plenty of thin sliced turkey, but not enough cheese or onion to match it. The turkey had the flavor and texture of prepackaged processed sliced turkey from the grocery store. If they want to be upscale, this isn't it. Everything else was typical. Overall, the sandwich tasted alright.
2) Club Combo
It was a double decker sandwich with white or wheat bread. It had ham, turkey, cheddar cheese, bacon, lettuce, and tomato with Thousand Island, mayonnaise, or honey mustard. It was a great looking sandwich! Too bad the meat was all processed. They had the typical taste and texture of prepackaged deli meat. The bacon looked and tasted like precooked bacon. It was dry and crumbly with no oil. This type of bacon has to be the worst to use in a restaurant. It's for home use by people who can't cook. Everything else was typical. Overall, this tasted okay, but nothing special.
3) S.O. Blend pour-over coffee
A medium roast coffee with notes of dark chocolate, molasses, and a caramel essence. It was slightly burnt and bitter with a medium body. It only came in a 9 ounce size which was served in a glass coffee carafe. It's not a bad coffee, the flavor profile just didn't appeal to us. S.O. stands for select offerings.
4) Drip coffee
A medium-bodied, medium roast coffee with no bitterness or burnt flavor. This tasted better than their pricey pour-over. The low acidity and milk chocolate note made it more appealing. It's a decent coffee that will appeal to most people.
The service was relatively quick, polite, and helpful. Orders are taken at the counter and food is delivered to your table. The dining room had the ambiance of a modern coffee cafe with warm wood used throughout. The two restrooms were unisex and clean. There is a free parking lot in front with more parking behind the building. They have all the coffee drinks one would expect at a coffee shop along with a variety of coffee beans. The food tastes good enough, the atmosphere is better than Starbucks, and the prices are affordable. I see why locals hang out here and rate it so highly. They're worth a visit if you're in the area. 3 stars for the food and 5 stars for the coffee choices and ambiance.
