"This tiny 30-year-old Czech cafe brings a whiff of Cold War ambiance to sunny Sac. A star of the menu is the shatteringly crispy, golden pork schnitzel, served simply as two thin patties that fill up an entire plate, topped with lemon wedges and accompanied by a boat of housemade spaetzle in a thin gravy. The cabbage rolls are even homelier, and also delicious, tart, and smoky from paprika." - Becky Grunewald

"This tiny Hungarian restaurant is a true mom-and-pop operation, with just a few tables, bar stools, and a decor that feels like it’s trapped in time — and so does the menu, where you can still find hearty lunch specials like goulash and chicken paprikash with spetzle for less than $8. All dinners are automatically three-course meals, with soup or salad, your choice of entree, and apple strudel for dessert." - Janelle Bitker

Wonderful little place. It feels like eating at a friend’s home. I’m from Romania and we were in Hungary just a few months ago - this made me feel like home. Great hospitality!

There aren’t enough adjectives to describe how wonderful and delicious Cafe Marika is. Very simple and comfortable setting with a one cook kitchen putting out Hungarian delights like Chicken Thermal. If you love food that gives you a “home” feeling, you’ll definitely get that here. Every dish feels like it was given special attention with great flavor, and cleanliness. This is another downtown Sacramento eatery with huge character that helps give Sacramento so much charm. It is places like this that get me excited to live here. It is cash only so be prepared for that and I hope you love it as much as I do. Happy eating!

Met friends for lunch today. I ordered the combination plate, half Hungarian Goulash (lean pork cooked in Hungarian paprika sauce served on spetzels and half portion chicken paprika served on spetzels. I enjoyed visit with friends at a lunch of new menu items. Very small cozy cafe.

Their Hungarian Goulash is excellent!!! Also, so is their Chicken Paprikash. In fact, I have never had anything that didn't taste good. I have been here numerous times and I have always enjoyed myself!!! The Husband and Wife owners are very friendly and helpful. Customer Service is awesome!!!! My Mom's 100% Hungarian and she loves this restaurant. If that's not a positive review, then I don't know what else to say? My whole family highly recommends this restaurant!!! You won't be sorry.

Ate lunch here for the first time today. Hungarian food. Had the meatball and Spaetzle pasta special. My mom had the chicken. Just the right amount of food with a couple slices of nice french bread for $7.25 a plate! I like the delicate flavors and that they do not over spice their offerings. The meatballs were unusually light and mild. The roasted chicken, falling off the bone. I have never tried "spaetzle" which is a pasta. Excellent! The restrooms were spotless and just like a nice home bathroom; not industrial. It is clear they take great pride in their business. You can also look into the kitchen while you eat. That says a lot about quality in itself. Very small with only a half dozen tables plus one on the sidewalk. Service was speedy and to the point. This is my new "regular" lunch stop when I want comfort food.

I went to Cafe Marika with 5 ladies of my book club and my grandson on a Thursday evening. I made a reservation in advance since this place is extremely tiny. It is probably better suited for just a small gathering, but the food was very good. I had the pork schnitzel with potato salad, which looked and tasted delicious. All the dishes came with a nice salad and a piece of apple strudel for dessert. Only 2 choices of salad dressing though: Italian and Blue cheese, but the salad was really fresh and crisp! I will definitely be back for the schnitzel meal.

What a wonderful cozy restaurant with incredibly delicious food! We had the house special and it was awesome! And the price! Where can you buy great lunch like this at a price that rivals fast food? The owners are friendly and courteous people, and go out of their way to please their customer. 5 Stars all the way
