Cafe Matcha - Review - Studio City - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Alfred Coffee has entered its matcha era (along with the rest of LA) with a new concept called Cafe Matcha in Studio City. The space looks like a classic diner with retro booths, and they have all kinds of ceremonial-grade matcha drinks, plus desserts like matcha waffles and ice cream. The pastries are from a former Konbi chef and include things like a koji-glazed miso cinnamon roll, hojicha apple galette, and a curry ham-and-cheese bun." - Cathy Park

Best matcha drink I've ever had in my life!! Truly thought I would never be a matcha girly but Cafe Matcha proved me wrong. Sarah was so helpful suggesting a drink that I might like based on my taste, and I was surprised and delighted by how unbelievably delicious the "green & black" (matcha + cold brew) combo came out!!! I got the pistachio milk instead of half & half and it was divine. In addition to our drinks, which my cousin and I loved, the pastries we tried were also out of this world. The space is colorful, light, and fun, & the music was fab as the backdrop to our experience. 100/10, we already can't wait to come back!

Really cute new spot, great quality matcha, the cooler was my favorite. The pastries look and smell amazing, definitely going back for those. The staff was friendly and quick. Very cute aesthetic, loved the atmosphere!

Am adorable matcha cafe inside the corner of the parking lot, with plenty of parking but was challenging to enter during rush hours. 10/10 taste, service, and experience

Imagine this: Tall chilled glass. Half cloudy, pale yellow lemonade. Half vibrant organic ceremonial jade-green matcha. Fine crushed ice all the way through, sweating on the outside of the glass. Taste • First sip is bright, zesty lemon — almost like a good homemade nimbu pani, but cleaner and colder. • A split second later, the matcha kicks in: smooth, gently grassy, a tiny hint of earthiness and umami. • The sweetness is there, but light: just enough honey or simple syrup to round off the sharpness of the lemon without making it sugary. • There’s a soft, almost creamy body from the whisked matcha, so it doesn’t taste like two drinks mixed together, more like one layered, complex sip. Texture & Aroma • You get that tiny matcha foam on top, smelling fresh like a rainy morning. • The lemonade brings micro-bubbles and a slight tingle on your tongue if it’s made with sparkling water. • Every sip is icy but not watery, because the drink is slightly concentrated to balance the melting ice.

This cute new trendy place brings the centuries old tradition of matcha into the 21 century. Great drinks and food, cute atmosphere, and priced pretty reasonably. They had traditional matcha drinks plus new ones with a lot more flare. Would recommend!

Google
PURE GOODNESS!!! The matcha is fantastic and brought me right back to Japan. The pastries are so all so unique and flavorful with a Japanese twist, giving even the sweetest desserts a savory edge. Loved the miso carrot danish and the waffles with matcha jam 😍 Just go, you won’t be disappointed!

Google
I will give credit or credit is due. This was a great Matcha drink (it’s noting like the Alfred cafes in a good way). It wasn’t super matcha forward. It was more of a balanced Matcha. I think this is due to them making the decision of this is the Matcha I want to give to people and not always pleasing the customer with larger sizes, etc. so the ratios were perfect. It’s great that it has parking. That’s a huge plus these days. My only thing I think they need to change as they need almond milk specifically unsweetened for those like they care about keto, etc.. soy it feels really weird in 2025.

Google
Look at my beautiful matcha latte! Equally delicious. Would love a vegan snack to go with it. Hopefully they can add one to the menu.

Yelp
Love this new spot! They have so many creative drink options (including a Matcha milkshake!!) and really delicious food (you must try the waffles!). I love that you can choose from a variety of matches and there's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating (bonus points for ample outlets). The staff is super friendly and helpful! Great vibes 10/10 = 5 stars. Must try!

Yelp
Extremely cute and fun Matcha diner ! I tried their Belgian waffle with their matcha sauce, and a strawberry matcha to drink. The matcha itself is strong and definitely quality, however the cups are minuscule and you really don't get an adequate amount. The waffle was chewy and yummy with a sugary crust, and the matcha sauce was to die for !!! The diner itself offers ample seating, with comfortable booth options. Seating is first come first serve so I recommend going during their less busy times for the full experience. The bathroom was super clean and spacious. The staff is quick, kind, and helpful. Prices are as expected for a matcha diner, I spent about $18 for my 2 items. Parking is free and available in a decent sized lot.

Yelp
I was excited to hear about Alfred's new matcha café. It's located in a small plaza in Studio City, and there's free parking in the plaza lot. The interior has old-school colorful diner vibes with a good amount of seating. I ordered the Cloud Matcha Latte with oat milk. I'm wondering if there is a lot of inconsistency because I was very underwhelmed. It was hard to appreciate the taste of matcha. I could only taste the cream / milk. The price is also on the higher end that isn't justified by the quality or taste. Overall, I wouldn't say it's on my list of favorites or recommended matcha spots in Los Angeles.

Yelp
Let's just start with how the selection for good matcha in the valley is pretty wack. Well, this cafe is no exception. Unfortunately, with matcha being so trendy, this is another attempt to capitalize on that and knowing that people will spend money to quiet the curiosity. Strawberry matcha latte- 1.5/5. The price for the size is crazy. Also, flavor was lacking. Didn't try any food bc its a matcha cafe and if the matcha isn't good, can the food be? Location and parking is easy enough if you're curious enough!

Yelp
"Best Matcha in Town" is a BOLD statement to make in a city as large and diverse as Los Angeles, and frankly even big words for Studio City. Alfred's latest spinoff Cafe Matcha opened and having driven past their construction for months and seeing it on social media, I was excited to drop by! Came by on a Wednesday afternoon after a hike in the area and found parking easily in this plaza (both ground and underground free parking available). The decor of the cafe is in a mid century modern style which is quite nice though their exclusively interior seating is limited. Their menu isn't the largest but I came for the sole purpose of trying out this best matcha. Matcha Latte 2/5, omg okay so (1) obviously not the best matcha in town™. (2) price wise this is actually outrageous for how small this cup is. I took a photo w my hand for reference and I don't have big hands,,, the matcha quality itself IS good however due to the small size of the drink, the ratio of matcha : milk is off, leaving the user drinking somehow alternating too much matcha : milk with too much milk : matcha. Price alone would make me not order this again, not even accounting for this taste. I actually took this home, poured it into a glass (1/2 filled) and then added more milk myself along w cold foam and it was already an improvement

Yelp
Excellent matcha cafe in Studio City! I stopped by Cafe Matcha for an afternoon pick-me-up before an appointment I had a few blocks away. The free parking was a nice perk. I had the vanilla dairy-free matcha cloud cream. The matcha was good quality--earthy, grassy, and rich. I only wish the drink lasted more than a few sips. Service was good, and my drink came out fast. I like the Midcentury modern decor. There was plenty of seating and the WiFi was decent. Overall, a great spot to hang and grab a drink.

Yelp
Today was the grand opening of Cafe Matcha and I have been counting down the days. I've been following this spot for over a year and since it's by the team behind Alfred Coffee, I knew it was going to be good. Cafe Matcha is a matcha-only diner and it somehow feels both super modern and nostalgic at the same time. Think high-quality Japanese matcha served in a setting that gives off classic American diner vibes. It is the kind of place that makes you want to hang out for a while. I ordered three things and loved all of them: *Matcha Cloud Cream (Matcha, Milk, Syrup, Cloud Cream) *Green & Black (Matcha, Cold Brew Coffee, Half & Hald, Shaved Chocolate) *Miso Carrot Danish (White Miso, Heirloom Carrots, Mornay Sauce, Ao Nori) I already can't wait to go back. There are so many other drinks and snacks I want to try. If you're even a little curious about matcha, this place makes it feel really fun and approachable. So glad it's finally open.

Yelp
My partner and I went here. Full disclosure I am not big on matcha. She loves it. So I had her get a drink and a lot of this is her review. We also didn't have any of their food items. They looked promising on the menu. So we will return one day and update this review more fully. This is a first impression of this brand new spot. Drinks: 1/5 This is the biggest problem with the place. Billing themselves as the best matcha in town. According to my partner it's definitely not! She got their main matcha drink. Which has, I believe some kind of hazy, cloudy condensed milk in it. A cloud vanilla. I took one sip and it just tasted like sweet fatty dirt to me. She suggested it was mid and there's better all over town. She also claimed to have to expel a "matcha demon" at home later on. If you know what I mean :) For me. I got an iced loose leaf green tea. Figured that should be pretty easy to get right. I like it plain. No sugar or anything. Well. Mine was a 6 dollar cup of water. Take a look at the picture I posted. It was barely tea! So unfortunately. If you are gonna flex "best matcha in town" it better be! This is the heart of a low star review as drinks are the core of this business. Service: 3/5 Nothing good or bad here. A relatively fast casual vibe with some kids at the front doing the work. They were nice and informative. I'm going to guess service is going to be up to whose shift it is and what mood they are in. You don't get the sense that these are owners or people that have any personal stake in the business. No small town coffee shop vibes or anything. There are other places in studio city or nearby Toluca Lake with a much more homegrown vibe. Ambiance: 3/5 It's - fine. Small. Clean. A few tables inside. They Co-opted a strange island place across in the middle of the parking area outside, too. Location: 2/5 I think it's important to mention this is a building in a busy shopping area on the corner of Laurel Canyon and Ventura. The building itself is an island literally right in the corner. This place is going to get business from shoppers and gym goers alone. I frequent the planet fitness in this shopping area so I'd be pretty great for me if this place rocked. Too bad it doesn't. The downside is they took two coveted parking spaces in the lot and dedicated them to this place. It's also a parking area that's already pretty crazy so having a lot of short term in and out parking for this location is causing chaos for regular patrons of the gym. People tend to drive the wrong way down the one way lot all the time. So this is just adding to the chaos. The funny thing is this mall has a huge underground lot that is easy to get to. It'd be better if they took like 10 spots underground up with a sign that said "free cafe matcha parking underground" or something. Then, could you imagine? Actually encouraged people to walk a bit to get there. Not only would it be healthy and less stressful for people. But more diplomatic in a crowded space. But... that's not the world we live in! So know that the parking is even worse up top now and be careful as people tend not to look and drive terrible and confused in this area. I'd go around the corner. Take a short walk to numerous better coffee shops. Or a short drive to Tujunga for better.

Yelp
I was really looking forward to trying Café matcha and it did not disappoint. This place is very hard to miss since it is right at the corner of a very prominent shopping center. I visited on a Saturday morning before it got busy, which I recommend because this shopping center and parking lot get very busy and hectic. The café is small but has plenty of seating. It has a retro diner vibe to it. The service was friendly and surprisingly quick. I ordered a plant based strawberry matcha cloud cream and oat milk and loved it. I will definitely return for a regular matcha.

Yelp
If you're matcha lover I recommend this place. They use organic matcha from Japan. Service was great. It locates in the plaza on Ventura and Laurel Canyon blvd enough parking if you get lucky. Good environment for pick up or unwinding from a long day.

Yelp
Date: October 15, 2025 I LOVE matcha and have been to countless joints to try their matcha. I was so excited when I saw a new matcha place was opening up close by in the valley. Took the kiddos and stopped by on grand opening day. Wasn't about to brace the lines at 8am with two babies so stopped by around 10. There were a handful of people ahead but the seats were all filled inside. Everything was very cutely decorated and as it says 'best matcha in town' I was super excited to try. At 7$ a cup and a TINY cup for that matter, I was so disappointed. My friend already warned me that Alfred's wasn't good (I'm not a coffee drinker) but I wanted to try the matcha for myself. I got the regular matcha latte w/ whole milk and the matcha lemonade. Matcha latte wasn't HORRIBLE but wasn't good at all. Barely any matcha taste and really just green milk at this point. I'm sorry but the matcha lemonade was disgusting. I tried to finish because I spent 7$ on it but I couldn't and ended up tossing it after half way. Sorry not sorry but what a disappointing visit. I hope their food is better but I won't be back.

Yelp
I came early so parking was easy, and I had a seat right by the window. All of the pastries sounded so interesting and I settled on the miso carrot danish (divine) and the sudachi pie (also divine) the matcha cloud cream was just like the Alfred's one. My favorite part of it is that sprinkle of salt at the top. SO good. The ambiance was so good it had this retro homey vibe and the light was shining the right way so there was a rainbow reflecting through the glass and it was just such a cute morning I had. The service was good, everyone was kind. I can't wait to return.

Yelp
I like the establishment is nice and clean and the folks inside are very nice. But maybe is just me. But their matcha tasted like grass. I got the cloud vanilla one. Maybe I should have chosen a fancier matcha variety but I honestly didn't know any better. I got a food item with my order and that was pretty good. But the drink...@_@.I will think really hard before braving it again and trying to see if it doesn't taste like someone's lawn. I will update if my experience is different.

Yelp
I tried the Cloud Cream Matcha and really liked it! If you like a sweeter drink, the Cloud Matcha is perfect. They use ceremonial grade matcha, it's earthy and smooth, and the cream foam is really sweet. The line was really long when I went, but it moves pretty quickly. They're in a strip mall so parking was really easy to find. Also love the cute retro diner vibe they have going on!

Yelp
The service was great! Loved the diner vibe! And of course, the strawberry matcha was good.

Yelp
Specialty matcha cafe from Alfred Coffee. The aesthetic is super cute and retro, and parking is ample in the two-level plaza lot. They have a decent number of creative matcha drinks and even better Japanese-inspired pastries. Tried the green & black (chocolatey and creamy without a strong cold brew taste) and classic matcha cloud cream with vanilla (perfect sweetness and creamy level). Downside was the drinks were small for $8 lol.

Yelp
Big matcha fan. Love the way the store is set up, the aesthetic, and the menu. The match is not the best in LA, but it is definitely above par. Price a little high, size a little small. I found myself a bit disappointed at the ham/curry bun. On paper and the counter it sounded and looked lovely. But the actual pastry was a bit of a bummer (stiff) and the amount of curry was minimal. I'll be back to try more because I wanna support (and I am a matcha fiend) but not an out of the park first impression.

Yelp
I am in Alfred's fan, so I was excited to try this new spot! This matcha was more flavorful compared to Alfreds. They also have more milk options, including soy milk, which I appreciate. The food options were interesting and not many vegan items in comparison to Alfred's. Surprisingly, it was not overly busy, and I appreciated that there were free parking spots available. If you live close by, this is a great option, but I would not drive from the city for this.

Yelp
i ordered the matcha cloud with vanilla. it reminded me of the one from alfred's but i preferred this one more. there's easy parking in the lot but limited seating. i would go back to also try the pastries!

Ciara R.

Yelp
The energy in there is so light and sweet. The customer service is wonderful and feels very organic. The matcha is delicious!!! I did a couple of illegal turns to get in and out of that parking lot on the very busy Ventura blvd (shhhhhh, don't tell anyone). Learning that they're the sister business of Alfred's made a lot of sense because I love Alfred's matcha. My only wish is that they offered bigger sizes. Anyways 10/10 and 15/10 if you hit me with a 16 or 24oz!! ALSO, let me say, that's just bc I drink very fast and I'm greedy! The quality of the matcha however, is strong and honestly the size that they offer does the trick. Okay bye! Picture of empty cup because...

Elika Z.

Yelp
Cute place, very crowded when I went. The matcha itself is sweeter than what I would like. I ordered the Cloud Matcha -- very creamy, a little bit on the sweeter side for my liking, but presentation was cute. Didn't try the pastries but some were sold out when I went.

Mika B.

Yelp
Finally!!! A matcha shop in the valley close to Sherman Oaks/Studio City!! I really loved the matcha here. I got Café Matcha's take on a strawberry matcha einspanner and the miso cinnamon roll. The matcha was delicious, I could actually taste the strong matcha flavor and the strawberry, without it being too overpowering. The cinnamon roll was also very yummy, but very sweet, which was expected. The vibe inside was cute, but a little overwhelming with the bright colors, I'm not sure I would want to spend a day studying or working here, but it's nice to make a quick stop to pick up a drink and a snack. The prices were a little steep- over $8 for a matcha oat milk in a super small cup. However, the staff, especially the woman taking our order, was lovely and the service was excellent!! I'm looking forward to stopping by again to get my matcha fix!

Nessie L.

Yelp
Super friendly staff, cute decor, and high quality matcha. Japanese soy cream is a must try! I care the most about the food (the sentence above is to satisfy Yelp's AI checks). Please come here to see how "Asian fusion" is done correctly. Chef Kiyoshi's creations were delicious and delightful, very thoughtful flavor combinations- nothing gimmicky and focuses on techniques and high quality ingredients. I did order almost all the items and ate them in the cafe immediately (they heat them up for you!).... I've listed in the order of my personal likings: 1. Apple Hojicha Galette (not pictured, ate it too fast)- most hojicha desserts are just hojicha slapped in the face. I don't know how the chef did this, but the hojicha comes last and subtly in the background, while the fragrance and the natural sweetness of the apple hits you first. The puff pastry itself was perfect- soft, moist (BUT NOT SOGGY), and a slight crisp outer shell. The crumble on top is the "cherry on top" but no syrup and no diabetes. If you love apples, this is a must try! 10/10 2. Carrot miso danish- I was expecting salty and savory profile based on the appearance and my sheer lack of imagination. I was wrong. These heirloom carrots are SO SWEET and the different color carrots brings in subtle levels of earthiness as well (the good kind). Not your generic grocery store carrots, these are fresh and extra flavorful. The miso brings in just enough umami flavor, but the pastry is sweet overall from the carrots. Of course the Danish pastry itself is perfect- buttery and moist (NOT SOGGY). 10/10 3. Curry ham pan- good curry, good ham, and bread is slightly cheesy (?) and a perfect texture. 9.5/10 (I wish there was more curry!) 4. Sudachi lime pie- I ate this last so was a bit full. The base crust of this pie has a perfect crunch and I think more on the salty side (very subtle, I could be wrong)- which pairs perfectly with the "cream" layers (idk the proper terminology). The sudachi lime cream layer is pure perfection- an unique tartness but not overpowering. The top layer cream is so fluffy. When combined all in one bite - this is exactly what I've been looking for after years of being disappointed by most LA restaurants' "key lime pies" and lemon squares. 9.5/10 ‍‍‍‍‍(I wish there was a tub of the sudachi lime cream, could always use more haha). Also bought the Cinnamon roll for my partner - he loves it (not pictured and no further description). Thank you for reading my dramatic review.

Yelp
Not only is this place super cute and has a diner aesthetic vibe, the matcha and the pastries are amazing. The staff is warm, inviting and knowledgeable on all things matcha. The manager Vanessa is so informative and helpful!

Yelp
My neighbor and I dropped by to check out this place and were not greeted warmly when we walked in a few minutes after closing time even though the door was was open. The lady informed us they were closed and we said no worries, just wanted to check out the place. But we were told they were closed and we need to leave, not the kind of behavior I would expect from a new establishment.

Shelly S.

Yelp
This place was a great little spot to stop for matcha, but I would not say best in the city. I saw it on insta and stopped by for a drink and to read, and it was blarring with loud music and the matcha was just okay. It was a good flavor but not as strong as I hoped and unfortunately I think just another instagram craze. Not bad but not amazing especially for the price.

Jeremiah B.

Yelp
I was really disappointed that I didn't receive one of the items I ordered (carrot danish). For the price, I expected better service and attention to detail. The matcha drinks I did get were good, but definitely on the expensive side for what it is. Maybe my opinion would've been different if we got everything we ordered.

Claudia A.

Yelp
I love this place the service is amazing the match was delicious definitely a must try

Yelp
The match is 10/10! Also love the staff there. Service was fantastic. I really enjoyed my visit and would go back again!

Yelp
Excited to see Alfred coffee expand to matcha in studio city. The staff was super helpful and knowledgeable when I asked for recommendations. Plenty of seating and a clean, well designed environment to hang out and enjoy my iced matcha. Hoping they will add almond milk to their nondairy options!
