NYC’s New Restaurant Openings

"Located in the hallowed ground that once held Dallas BBQ in the East Village, Café Maud (not to be confused with Cafe Mado, which opened last week), is an all day cafe with a brick pizza oven and a walk-up coffee window—it also has an Irish-inspired speakeasy-style bar called the Rhymers Club attached to it." - will hartman

Such a good spot for happy hour! They have great deals on pizza and drinks from 3-6 Mon-Fri. The pizza was so fresh and tasty. Outdoor patio is spacious but try to make a reservation for it. They were pretty busy during happy hour. Service was great. I’ll definitely be back here!

Google
Loved this place. They have frozen aperol which is amazing for the hot summer. Pizza was really good and we also had a tiradito which was very refreshing. This place is always full because it’s really good so I recommend if you want to sit, make reservations. Service was really friendly too. Will come back very soon!

Had Sunday brunch at Café Maud and absolutely loved it. The place has a warm, rustic vibe that feels both relaxed and welcoming. The food was fresh and flavorful, and the cappuccino was outstanding—smooth, rich, and clearly made with care (you could taste the passion). Big shoutout to Elena, the barista, who brought such a kind, calm energy to the experience. She made our drinks perfectly and added a personal touch that made the whole visit even better. Afterward, she recommended the strawberry matcha—and she absolutely nailed it. Definitely our new Sunday spot!

We went for brunch after my friends’ courthouse wedding; we got lucky with seating but it was a Monday, so always recommend booking. The drinks, pretty tasty honestly, worth the price. I was gladly surprised by my breakfast bowl, tasty and just enough to fill me up without being too much. The combination of the prosciutto with the ricotta and the avocado… very fresh and nice; yea you could argue that it’s like a toast but the bowl presentation was 10x better for me. One more piece of the sourdough and it would had been perfect. In general, nice cafe for breakfast/lunch and would go back

Sat at the bar for brunch. Blood Mary’s were perfect. My wife had the bianca pizza, yum! I had a side of thick cut bacon and a side of fries. Very enjoyable brunch!

Google
I saw a lot of pictures where the pancakes looked amazing, but unfortunately my experience didn’t match that. As you can see from my photo, the presentation was pretty disappointing. I also ordered a matcha, which was just okay not great. On the plus side, the service was decent.

Google
Elegant and approachable brunch-forward cafe with a warm, modern retro feel. Great music vibes: well-curated playlist with upbeat, and gentle throwback tunes: you’re in a good mood when you step in. The drip coffee is a dark roast that almost hits the spot. If you like dark roasts, then you will enjoy. It’s better than a diner coffee for sure, but taste was a bit bitter. Management can consider grinding coarser or increasing coffee:water ratio. Hostess: very friendlyZ Cappuccino: expertly done presentation with coffee art, slightly underwhelming on amount of foam. Consider increasing foam %. Food: top notch. 1) DELICIOUS fries. 2) Homemade scone with butter and jam: perfect. Drip coffee score: 3.75/5. Everything else score: 5/5. Overall score: 4.25/5.

Google
Unbelievable brunch at cafe Maud, so glad we stumbled upon it! The eggs Benedict was stunning and so was the hangover cure juice. The Irish servers were also amazing and super friendly. & they even do Guinness on tap, what more could you want

Yelp
Always busy for brunch but the ambience is energizing with everyone bustling in and out. That being said, the tables are quite close to each other. Lemon ricotta pancakes - skip, can't taste the lemon at all and a bit dry. Breakfast burrito ($24 after tax tip) - get, large portion size and flavorful. Comes with potatoes and side salad and maple syrup. Chicken sausage was tasty. Smash burger - I'd get this just for their fries again. Soooooo crispy and addicting. Service is quite slow though, given they're so busy. We had to ask for the check/boxes multiple times because they'd keep forgetting.

Yelp
Been craving brunch for a while and made my way to Cafe Maud to escape the cold weather. Didn't know what to expect but I really enjoyed my food and the vibes there!! Started off with the whipped roasted eggplant, which was nicely seasoned and had a creamy eggplant taste. It went so well with the warm pita-like bread. It was a pretty big portion so I had to pace myself to make space for the mains. Eggs bene is always a must for me when I check out a new brunch place. The poached eggs were nicely done with a runny yolk. The short-rib was super tender and tasty with the sweet and savory flavors. The béarnaise sauce added a nice herb-y touch. Felt like the muffin could have been toasted a little bit more but overall the ingredients all came together. The malibu bowl surprised me with the textural contrasts! The rice itself was flavored with miso and was a little salty by itself, but not bad when mixed with the other things. Not only was their wild rice that offered a good chew, but also some crunchy component that juxtaposed the soft egg and avocado. Also appreciated the ratio of carbs to protein to veggie in this dish! The store itself was spacious with indoor and outdoor seating. The earthy tones with green highlights and plants contributed to a very calming environment. Server was quick with orders, food, and the bill. Definitely will be back whenever I'm in the mood for brunch~

Yelp
Braved the snow for a Sunday brunch and it was worth it! We had a reservation for 11 and we were immediately seated. There's lots of bar and outdoor seating, so they're able to accommodate more people than I expected. The server was almost a little too eager to take our order and asked us twice within the first five minutes of being seated if we were ready to order, which wasn't the best experience. Now, on to the good stuff! Here's what we ordered: - Whipped roasted eggplant: I honestly cannot tell if I liked the house bread more or the whipped roasted eggplant... The bread is HUGE and it's really fluffy but also chewy at the same time. For some reason I was expecting the dip to have the consistency of hummus, but was surprised by how light and airy it was. The eggplant flavor really shines through, so a must try for eggplant lovers! - Eggs benedict: The short rib was very tender but I do wish there was a little more! Eggs were perfectly poached with a great egg yolk run. Didn't really care for the potatoes since they lacked flavor in my opinion. - Malibu bowl: This was the most surprising dish! It looked like a regular bowl, but was packed with a ton of flavor and textures. The miso yuzu vin is very light but really elevates this bowl. There were some crunchy textures in the mix but I couldn't figure out where the crunch was coming from. Didn't seem worth it to add $6 for chicken and it tasted fine without the meat. That's how you know there was lots of flavor! Service was a bit iffy and the suggested tipping fees are pretty aggressive, which is why they lose a star. Otherwise food was great!

Yelp
Such a delicious and cozy spot. It's got a nice ambiance to it on the inside but I only saw it for a second since we got seated in the front patio area. It's clearly the place to be, so we were stoked when we got immediately seated on a Friday night! We ordered: Boat of fries- thin, salty, tasty, just how I like my fries. It came with ketchup and truffle dipping sauce. Pizza - We got the Soppressata and it was more like a salami cheese pizza than pepperoni/meat pizza. Very tasty but was an interesting topping for me Chicken sandwich - delicious and it came with fries but we somehow missed that on the menu so we ended up with a tonnnn of fries for dinner For drinks I got a Guinness which was nice and cold, and my friend got a fruity cocktail that tasted like a spiked Arnold Palmer. So yummy!!

Yelp
Both dishes were tasty, but nothing mind blowing. The avocado toast felt pretty overpriced for just one toast but that's Manhattan, I guess.

Yelp
Café Maud is a great spot to grab brunch, lunch, drinks, or a cup of coffee. It was our first restaurant stop during our trip to NYC - we stumbled across it while exploring the East Village. The green accents and calming interior first attracted us to the door, but the friendly staff and creative menu pulled us inside. While stopping in, I tried the Malibu Bowl which was fresh and flavorful. My friends and I also shared an order of their french fries which were perfect! If ever in the area again I'd definitely consider eating lunch here!

Yelp
Came with a reservation on a Sunday afternoon! The outside seating area definitely gets cold if you're near the outer edge but the view is gorgeous. We had to wait about 10 min while the other table was leaving to be seated. They were quick to get us settled once the table was ready, though the food took some time to come out. It felt like they were rushing us out a bit by the end but overall lovely experience.

Yelp
The breakfast burrito is what I came for an it is so good! I would highly recommend coming on a sunny autumn day... the outdoor seating and vibes are absolutely perfect. Service is extremely friendly and relatively quick as well. My friend and I both opted for their breakfast burrito, hers with bacon and mine with chicken sausage. The chicken sausage was definitely my favorite (I wish that for the bacon one they used crunchier thin pieces of bacon instead of chopped up thick pieces). The burrito was definitely pretty big, but was so filling! Loved the guacamole, abundance of fluffy eggs, and the recently added hashbrowns which gave it the perfect crunch! The tortilla was also perfectly seared on the outside and had the perfect, chewy texture. On the side, the smashed potatoes were absolutely delightful. Extremely crispy texture on the outside that maintains the mash of the potato on the inside. A nice blend between your typical breakfast potato and crispy french fries.

Yelp
This restaurant is so cute. They have indoor and outdoor dining options, and it's usually pretty busy on the weekends. We came for brunch during the week and sat outside. The tables outside have big orange umbrellas which is cute. -Malibu Bowl with Chicken: The Malibu bowl was delicious. It came with edamame, wild rice, a poached egg, red onion, avocado, and micro greens. The miso yuzu vin it came with was yummy and was the perfect amount to add a good flavor to the dish without being over dressed. All the flavors complimented each other well. I added chicken which made the dish more filling. -Lemon Ricotta Pancakes: We got the lemon ricotta pancakes to share which were good. There wasn't much lemon flavor but the pancakes were a good consistency and fluffy.

Yelp
Really great place for brunch and/or drinks! The brunch selection wasn't very large, but everything we got was super yummy. The espresso martinis were also amazing. This was my second time here (the first time I just got drinks). The interior is super cute and cozy! The time that I only got drinks was also amazing. They have a bunch of classic cocktails as well as more creative drinks. Everything was absolutely smashing, and the pours were generous. All of the bartenders were also very friendly and engaging!

Yelp
The perfect spot to sit outside and order your adult beverage of choice (mine of course was an aperol spritz) to soak up **and get soaked** the last days of summer and people watch. From brunch to pizza, lunch to delicious breakfast options, Café Maud is a cocktail forward spot that sets the vibe to hang and chill. We sat outside but inside is so chic and charming. Despite it raining out of the blue and us getting soaked even under their umbrellas, it was such a memorable experience. Can't wait to be back for a full experience and get to try not just more of their cocktails but also their delicious menu items!

Yelp
Stoped by for a late dinner on a Friday night. They offer plenty of seating outside. The vibes are very different indoors and outdoors. The indoor vibes is a lively music blasting vibe with everyone seemingly having a good time, outside is calm and more on the quiet side. Their outdoor area closes at 10pm but indoors is opened till 2am. Service was decent, our waters were refilled often. We ordered the spicy tuna crispy rice, a crushed tomato pizza, and smashed burger. The spicy tuna rice was very flavorful but I felt like it was a very thin layer of tuna where I questioned if there was any initially. The pizza was a Neapolitan style, there were cherry tomatoes and ingredients tasted pretty fresh. My husband really enjoyed his smash burger, and fries were thin cut. Overall a very decent meal and nice place, will definitely be back to try their drinks!

Yelp
Dropped by on a Saturday afternoon while running some errands and was not disappointed. Quickly got seated, ordered, and got my food. The staff was friendly, the food was tasty, and the decor inside was cute - what other combo can you ask for? I'd definitely come back with a friend for some brunch - you left a good impression.
google avatar

Liz B.

Yelp
I've been to the speakeasy here before but I made a last minute reservation for 8 people at 7:15PM only like 1.5 hrs earlier on a Saturday when we couldn't get anywhere else! The interior design of this restaurant is impeccable and all of the staff were so nice! They don't do anything for birthdays but they do have two fun shots on the menu so we just got our friend one of those. For drinks, I had the ideal sejour drink which was light and delicious and one of my friends had the espresso martini which was also a 10/10. Not too sweet or too vodka heavy! For dinner I had the Malibu bowl and that yuzu sauce they put in the rice was crack it was so good! My friends also got the burgers, short rib fried rice, and the funguy pizza. They all seemed to like their food! The only thing i think that could use some improvement were the fries weren't super crispy.

Rachel G.

Yelp
Cafe Maud is a great addition to the East Village! We stopped by for an early weekend brunch and were able to get a table outside. I love that there is a lot of outdoor seating! We didn't know the all day menu doesn't start until 11am so we were only able to order the breakfast items. But there were still some good options. We both got the breakfast burrito which came with a side salad and seasoned potatoes. The burrito was a good size and very filling. We'll definitely be back after 11am so we try the rest of the menu! And the speakeasy sounds like a fun spot for cocktails!

Yelp
I just visited their soft opening. The place feels expansive! The reflective walls in the rear dining room make the area feel twice as large as it actually is. The seating was comfortable whether you sat at high top booths or standard floor tables. They did a good job at spacing things out (a tough thing to pull off in NYC). I started off with drinks while I waited for a friend. If I recall, their signature drink had mezcal and a tajin rim. I want to call it "The Café Maud" but that would probably be wrong. I'll have to go back and update this review later. My favorite drink had coconut, mango, and again a tajin rim (Are you sensing a theme here?) Meanwhile, we got to sample some of the pizza, bruschetta, some assorted hors d'oeuvres, etc. but the Asian Lollipop chicken stole the show. Unanimous consent was given. A special note before I sign this off: The people watching was fantastic. Everyone looked like models. I can't guarantee that will be the case when you go, but cross your fingers and see what happens. I'll be back, and when I get more specifics, I'll update this review.

Yelp
I got the breakfast burrito and it was pretty good! Nothing amazing but what you would expect from a brunch place. Our servers were quite nice - no complaints! We sat inside and the vibes feel very ~LA~ with their velvet green booths. I would come back for an aperol spritz outside when the weather gets nice again!
google avatar

Ashley L.

Yelp
favorite new little place with great cocktails, pizza, crispy rice & tuna. service is very quick & friendly. ambiance is adorable right now especially during the holidays. we were able to walk in easily before 6 on a Thursday night for dinner. Apparently they are known for their brunch but their dinner is amazing!

Yelp
It's an Aussie Cafe. Kind of forgettable in terms of food to me. Like the avocado toast tasted like prepackaged smashed avocados and not fresh avocados. The inside is really nice and bright and spacious and is what I imagine LA restaurants might look like lol I have no idea how they can afford so much space in the east village. They also have a really cute coffee takeout counter outside but none of the coffee options were appealing to me

Anne Marie B.

Yelp
First, the good: our drinks were excellent and I enjoyed my entree- Mexican bowl. Now the bad: It took our waiter some time to get our food and drink order, and he was curt but no big deal. It then took 45 minutes for the food to come out. I asked where the food was and they brought me a check, and I had to explain that I didn't want the check yet, I wanted to eat. They gave me the wrong entree and didnt applogize but curtly took it away, gave another party member a partly incorrect order and said they'd fix but never returned. After another 15 minutes I finally got my correct entree. The food was alright but the service was truly awful.

Yelp
Drinks are great, food is just so so. Come for the ~vibes~ and maybe the pizzas but skip the rest. Or better yet pop over to rhymers club next door for drinks after dinner
google avatar

Tyler S.

Yelp
We went to the soft launch opening and it was stellar. Interior was beautifully done, great seating, delicious food, amazing drinks and the staff were great. We shared the soppressata pizza and sampled a bunch of the drinks on the menu before heading to The Rhymer's Club in the back, which was also incredible. Great spot for a dinner date night and drinks. Will be back again to try the full menu and get to know the bartenders for sure!

Yelp
The thing about NYC is that new restaurants and cafes pop up left and right and Cafe Maud is no different. From what I recall, Cafe Maud replaced what was once Dallas BBQ and they did a fabulous job switching up the Dallas BBQ interior design into a bright and cute cafe. We came for brunch and ordered the short rib fried rice, crushed tomato pizza, a bowl of fries, and the beet salad. The best dish was probably the short rib fried rice as it was flavorful and hearty but everything else was pretty lackluster. The fries were not crispy, leaning more towards the soggy side and I've had better pizza elsewhere. Overall thoughts - the pros: very friendly staff and cute ambiance/aesthetic. The cons: the food was just mediocre.

Bucha And Belly ..

Yelp
tiktok rec got bucha we came here right after the grand opening to inspect design choices and taste test the menu. food was okay but not superb. decor was pleasant but looked like it was missing a few finishing touches. overall 6.5/10

Yelp
At lunch Friday Aug. 16 2024 at11 am. First visit ever. Was tempted for months since it opened. A pleasant looking cafe. We sat inside to keep cool, though the outdoor seats on 2 Ave. were even busier than in, at first. I must give (3) demerits, not in any 'order'. 2 pers. So, I won't go back on my own for a 'bite to eat'. No creamer or milk or sugar- sweetener was brought with order of a hot and a cold brew coffee. Asked twice. No salt, pepper on the table. Did not bother to ask, but I would have used some on the eggs in my platter. My friend liked the lemon ricotta pancakes for the flavor of it all; the dollop of ricotta and fruit on top, and lemon in the pancakes. My breakfast platter was good but not excellent. My potatoes and very thick bacon in the breakfast platter too well done. 'Home fries' potatoes got crunchy,. I left almost half of the bacon, being the worse of the two. Nice toast.

Yelp
Vibes are like Rubys + bar primi. Brunchy food, cute interior, pretty casual. Our friends got the pizza and the chicken lollipops. They said it was fine. The pita they give is really very good. So soft and warm. The fried rice was great as well. Staff is nice and kitchen service is fast. Would definitely come back!

Ilene G.

Yelp
The food is great. The service is very good. Terrific Guinness and Irish coffee. Nice ambience.
google avatar

Rachel Z.

Yelp
Went here just for drinks, but the ambience was great. Dark lighting and good music. The wine was good and the service was very attentive. We would come back for food.

Yelp
Had the best time at cafe maud with a big group last weekend. We had a few sharing plates and pizzas. The lychee martini and pickle martini are the best. The entire place is sooo aesthetic, indoors and outdoors.

Oscar D.

Yelp
As an East Villager and St. Marks bohemian, Cafe' Maud is what I relished and they've embraced our bad ass artistic history and eclectic vibe, and makes for a awesome scenery of our hoods vibe on St. Marks Place. Us locals, we are many, this is another joint where we wait for friends (the Rolling Stones filmed their video down the street-waiting on a friend). I'm leaving the hood soon, but goddam, these kids got it right! Esdt8thstoscar

Yelp
Went here for lunch. Fast service, clean, and tasty grain bowls. Recommend for a pleasant meal. Great addition to the neighborhood.

Jeff P.

Yelp
First time. I sat outside and ordered the breakfast burrito. Fun potatoes and a side of salad included. The food was great and the green and red salsa (which are the most important) were both excellent and supposedly made in-house.
google avatar

Chrissy L.

Yelp
The food and the service are absolutely amazing!!!! The staff is so kind and on it, very refreshing. My ONLY qualm is it is SO LOUD!!! So so loud that it is almost unbearable. Please fix!!
google avatar

connie a.

Yelp
Food was super good and drinks are great. Best dirty martini I've had in a while. Very smooth. Went here on a Saturday night and it wasn't too bad- loud enough to feel like it's poppin but soft enough to hear your friends talk. Cute spot before you go out somewhere and plenty of bars around. Decent service, nothing outstanding to note nothing bad to note

Francis ..

Yelp
I live in the neighborhood at this is one my go to coffee spots. I've interacted with a lot of the folk here and Jamie at the coffee counter makes excellent drinks, provides superb service, and has a great smile. You should stop by there and get a drink.

Andreas B.

Yelp
Friendly service, had drinks & French fries (they were yum) Great location - sat on patio - beautiful people everywhere
google avatar

Lil B.

Yelp
First piece of advice: bring earplugs. No, I'm not joking. It's SO loud in here, you can barely hear the thoughts in your own head. There is no carpeting, nothing to absorb any noise. Also, advice to mgmt: the tables with the round base pedestals? Well this leaves nowhere for guests to put their feet!! Now, on to the food. Mediocre at best. But actually not good. Fries tasted like cardboard. Fried chicken sandwich also tasted like day old cardboard. We were the only table not drinking ...I think people come here for drinks, not food. The pizza was ok but not great. Server took order and never ever came back to check on us or the food. Or even give us the bill. Incredibly bad service. We live a block away and had high hopes but were sorely disappointed. Will not be returning. If you like eating food, go elsewhere.

Jhehannah P.

Yelp
A cute brunch place, aesthetics are gorgeous. Food was okay, but the service was great. Staff was very nice.

Francis Y.

Yelp
Great go-to morning cafe with coffee/tea options. Elena always serves me my usual espresso over rice with extra love, a wonderful smile, and brilliant eyes. Check it out.
google avatar

Sunny D.

Yelp
Meh food was below average. Much better brunch spots near by for same price or cheaper. Cute restaurant though.
google avatar

Greg B.

Yelp
The food was very tasty and the atmosphere was perfect!. I had the breakfast burrito and it was very flavorful. I also enjoyed the homemade lemonade.

Julie D.

Yelp
Food was phenomenal and the service was so great. Really loved the friendly vibes. Will definitely be back and can't wait to try the speakeasy.

Marlene R.

Yelp
The moment you walk thru the front door the vibe is incredible. The ambiance is gorgeous, the service was extraordinary, and the drinks and food was high end fabulous . It's the place to be seen. Will be back with my besties.

Meredith T.

Yelp
Ambiance was amazing - such a cool aesthetic no matter where you sit in the space! I sat in the inside dining room, but I need to go back to check out to speakeasy in the back! Drinks/food were amazing and they have a great brunch menu I will also need to go back for. The staff was all such a great vibe - 10/10 spot!

Martha P.

Yelp
Cafe maud has superb creative dishes. I love my Elote avocado toast and my sons loved their eggs Benedict. The presentation is delicate yet appetizing. We sat at the bar and Ryan provided absolute great service, not to mention the drinks he prepared for us. We had 4 different ones and all were delicious! We closed with a latte and coffee, they have a beautiful well-sorted Barista bar that we could not missed the opportunity to Ty and it did not disappoint us . Definitely enjoyed it and come by if you get chance to this quaint cafe. We will make it back! Thank you Ryan.

John M.

Yelp
Came into Cafe maud on my lunch break, the vibe is perfect anf exceptional service from my charming Irish server Rory. I ordered the tuna and sweet and sour chicken, the food was incredibly fresh and you have to try the spicy margarita's! Will definitely be back again!

Lauren M.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and food. We wish they didn't separate the weekday menu from the weekend menu, though. Haven't tried the drinks yet but will definitely be back!

Lauren B.

Yelp
Im new to the neighborhood and so is Café Maud apparently! I came here for drinks (and flatbread which was delicious) with my mom, and a second time for espresso martinis with friends. Fantastic ambiance and my new go to for a nice afternoon / evening :)
